Meatballs were delicious & the pepperoni pizza! Stopped in for happy hour; great service.

Cute little place at the plaza. Pretty chill and there is a decent bar area with high tops. Wine selection was decent. I only had 2 apps as I wasn’t too hungry. The pizza looked good though. It was interesting that they were out of the meat and charcuterie board at 6:30 pm on a Monday; not sure what to make to make of that. The carpaccio was smaller than expected but tasty. The meatballs look really good but are over salted. They are also served on top of bread which is pretty soggy with sauce, so I skipped the bread. The service was eager and prompt.

We were seated rather quickly. Then waited 20 minutes with multiple staff walking by us. Not one person stopped for anything. We were never offered water. Never asked what we wanted to drink. We were never talked to after being seated. What an utter disappointment. Btw, the lady who came in after us had water and a mixed drink before we decided to leave.

Outstanding restaurant! From the appetizers(bruschetta trio) me and my buddies were delighted with the food. The flavor is exceptional and the encounter followed the flavor of the food. We purchase two pizzas, Fontina and White Special. Fontina has an unbelievable flavor that I can urge. Nevertheless, White Special wasn’t the same encounter it’s a light flavor compare to Fontina.

Whether it’s dinner or brunch Coal Vines does not disappoint. For brunch I usually get their breakfast calzone and for dinner I never get anything besides their white pizza with spicy meatball slices. This place is fantastic, if you’re a pizza lover definitely would recommend trying this place out.

I love this place! I’ve been eating here mainly for lunch for years and have never been disappointed. We usually get a pizza(they don’t seem to mind customising it) with a salad. Their wine list is extensive and well priced. I just can’t believe that I’ve never left a review, lol! I had to go back and check to make sure. Wonderful, I know you’ll like it!

My husband and I stopped in on a sunny Sunday morning for some brunch, and we were thoroughly impressed. We walked in the doors right at 10:00 when they opened, and the staff was awake and ready. Coal Vines has $ 12 carafes of mimosas, which contain an entire bottle of champagne and come in a variety of flavors(orange, peach, strawberry) that can be mixed and matched. We went with the peach, but the table next to us got strawberry-peach and I was envious the whole time. We will definitely order that one on our next visit. For food, I ordered the Nova Scotia scramble, and my husband had the breakfast calzone. I’m not typically an eggs kind of girl, but the scramble was awesome and served along some super tasty breakfast potatoes. The calzone was perfectly baked with Coal Vines’ dough, and I was happy to steal a few bites when my husband offered. I see you, Coal Vines, and I’m totally down with your brunch.

The white pizza was really great and my parents loved the shrimp and scallop salad. Great prices for what we ate and Alice our server was very attentive.

Pros: — Pizza was amazing! Big 16 inch wood-baked pizzas that you can customize anyway you like. — Happy Hour(before 7pm) has many drink and small plate specials for anywhere between $ 3-$ 7 — Location provides a nice view overlooking the river and the splendid architecture in the area. — Staff was above and beyond! Bartender(we sat at the bar) was engaging, informative, and very prompt. The manager approached us twice making sure we were completely satisfied. — Extensive wine list with something for everyone Cons: — Smaller restaurant/bar could provide for some wait times. Place was very crowded for a Thursday night, but waiting didn’t begin till after 7pm Overall: Very satisfied w/the overall food quality, customer service, and genuine feel of the pizza joint. All the pizzas we’ve tried here have been delicious w/the freshest ingredients

We had an office outing to this place and we came down to the exclusive room and it was a very unique experience. The wine selection was good and pizza was delicious! They even had a special menu printed for us! The food was average but the service and ambience made up for that!

I came here on a Sunday night as a group of 4. We were promptly seated and served waters. The service was always timely, and they were on point with water refills. Two of us got the rigatoni, one got the salmon BLT, and another got the penne with vodka sauce and chicken. They all seemed to enjoy their entrees, as I did mine. This was my second visit, and I would definitely come back. Coal Vines doesn’t appeared to have changed their menu much since my last visit 3 years ago. So I’m not entirely sure if that means they feel their recipes are tried and true, and they don’t feel the need to change anything, or what. Regardless, I loved the rigatoni, even though it was incredibly simple. I appreciated that the Italian sausage in it was a crumble. Too many restaurants do whole sausages or sliced sausage, which I think takes away from the dish — and is also a lazy way to use it in other dishes. Despite how much I loved the rigatoni, maybe it was too simple. I would probably be able to prepare a similar meal at home, and I probably will now without paying the hefty price tag for a small bowl of pasta at a restaurant. My complaints revolve around the small water glasses that require constant refills, as employees were constantly leaning over us to reach for glasses. It’s a bit disruptive in conversation and eating. We also were not checked on anytime after we ordered our food and before we received it. We discussed getting a starter, but never saw the waitress again before our food came, so we didn’t get to order it before our meal. Maybe next time, I suppose. Overall: 4⁄5 Food: 4⁄5 Service: 4⁄5 Atmosphere: 4⁄5

What I was surprised to find — and didn’t expect to really notice — was how well the pasta was cooked. My girlfriend and I agree that the dishes are rather simple, but that doesn’t take away from the well-blended taste. Coal Vines touts itself for its pizzas, which did look really flavorful. Leave it to me to order something the restaurant isn’t regarded for(I order the salmon sandwich at Jack Stack: p). The Penne Vodka stood out to me, so I ordered with chicken. The blackened chicken wasn’t fatty at all in my dish, and my girlfriend appreciated the crumble Italian sausage in the rigatoni(as opposed to whole or sliced sausage). My girlfriend is adept at sausage opinion, so she’s a good source when it comes to that. Also, it was difficult formulating a sentence about my girlfriend and sausage without it sounding easy to make fun of. What has this world come to? Meat additions and overall menu prices didn’t seem exorbitant, but the final bill seemed a little pricey for what you get. Personally, I was satisfied with my serving, but the rigatoni and the salmon BLT someone else in our party ordered didn’t seem as plenteous. Regarding the service, it wasn’t bad. They were on it with the refills for us. And while I think people are a little too into wine pairings, I now appreciate the art of it a little more. My favorite wine is a Riesling, but it doesn’t pair well with vodka sauce and chicken. Before you get all judgmental, I’m still learning. Geez. But I digress. Royals hoodie to button-down or higher attire is probably fine. Atmosphere: 2.5÷5 Food: 4⁄5 Pizza: I’ll know next visit/5

In a nutshell, solid food and a great atmosphere. The open kitchen allows diners to watch the cooks at work. We started with a $ 12 carafe of raspberry memosas, which ended up being 6 full glasses. The marinated olive appitizer was tasty, but a bit awkward to eat since the olives had pits, so the toast points were a bit pointless since you couldn’t eat them together without risking a tooth to a hidden pit. I had the Coal Vines Benedict, which is a much lighter version of your standard eggs benidict, with perfectly poached eggs and the breakfast potatoes rounded the meal off nicely. My mom had the Bananas Foster Pancake that was huge, fluffy and topped with caramelized bananas, fresh strawberries and whipped cream. Our server was attentive, cheerful and answered all of our questions. We will definitely return.

Valentine’s Day dinner with my man. We started off with drinks where I got a drink with Hendrick’s, strawberries, basil, and balsamic vinegar. Quite the interesting combination but very good. The boy got a beer. We perused the menu and settled on pizzas, since after all its a pizza joint. Now you should understand that when it comes to pizza we as a couple have some issues: I’m gluten free and he doesn’t eat dairy. So, when it comes to pies, its not often we find a place that accommodates us without even trying. Coal Vines though, this is the place. I had a gluten free pizza with pepperoni, caramelized onions, spinach, and fontina. It was delicious. My date ordered the Marinara pizza which is actually designed with no cheese. He added chicken and loved it. Winner winner. Especially for the price. :)

The calamari. Oh, the calamari. If I could write a love song for an appetizer, it would be this one. Lightly breaded and fried to perfection, this is the stuff happy hour dreams are made of. Paired with a glass of their yummy sangria or a wine off of their extensive wine list, it’s a sure fire hit. But…now we have to talk about the pizza. Coal Vines pizza, I wanted to love you, but I just can’t. Bland, doughy and greasier than a teenage boys face. My boyfriend and I only ate one slice each and refused a box to take the rest home. Thanks to the fun ambiance and wonderful staff we will be back, but will stick to appetizers and drinks.

Came here on a trip to KC. Our server was good. The food was not bad. the pizza was large, good to share with two people and have leftovers and super flea focus — and that’s from someone who has been living in nyc! My favorite thing we got was the calamari. The atmosphere is chill wine bar but it has a commercial feel as opposed to a special unique vibe.

Unfortunately, our pizza did not meet our expectations… Wonderful staff, although it was a bit confusing as to who was serving us, since we had three wait staff wait on us consistently throughout the night. We ordered the white truffle pizza and meatballs appetizers. Pizza had an interesting cheese, which I couldn’t tell if it was cottage or just a low grade ricotta. Either way, it tasted sandy and oddly non flavorful. Meatball appetizer, unfortunately did not have have season to the meatballs – they tasted bland. Food, with it being on the plaza, was overpriced for what we had. I’m glad we tried it, we know that it’s not a favorite.

Disappointed I wanted to go to coal vines for a while now. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and they had live music while we were there. I liked that they had someone designated to pour water so that was nice to always have my class full… But the pizza… It was so… so… Disappointing! I got the white pizza with prosciutto on top. The pizza looks beautiful! But when you bite in to it… It’s like floppy bread with an inch of ricotta on top. It was so bland. I even piled on the Parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes, and even asked for salt(that isn’t automatically on the table) and I still couldn’t enjoy this pizza. This is an $ 18 pizza, mind you! The other half was sausage and peppers which I don’t like sausage much so I’m not a good judge, but the pizza was still very floppy and mushy like the white pizza… We both ate one piece of pizza and we were just not interested in eating any more of it. I would not recommend this restaurant’s pizza.

Our first time here and it happened to be for a wine tasting event they were hosting. They did an amazing job with this event. We received 4 tastings, a full glass of wine and appetizers. After trying their appetizers, we’ve now put this restaurant on our must go to list. The pizza and the meatballs were outstanding! We will definitely return.

I have been twice now, first time I tried the chicken parm and some whiskey drink off of their drink menu. I am a chicken parm connoisseur, so I wasn’t shocked when I wasn’t the biggest fan. It takes a lot to impress me. Since they are known for their pizza I decided the second time around to go for it. Got one half spicy meatball and half fontina. Neither of which were very impressive but I did like the crust!
