Late lunch early dinner! View is great of the Verde Valley. Butternut Squash soup, fabulous. Comes with a delicious piece of whole grain bead. Artichoke with a basil garlic lemon aioli and melted butter. The aioli was yummy. Honey had the Cesar Salad, also came with bread, very good.

Stopped through on way to hike Mt. Humphreys and it was perfection. My first time there and the experience was breath taking from the service, food, to the view. Right before we were going to be sit inside a young servers(or bussers) asked if we didn’t mind waiting a party just left and he would clean off so we could have a seat with a view. So sorry didn’t get his name but thank you for a perfect experience.

We went for lunch and it was great. We had the butternut squash soup — amazing. I had the turkey sandwich which I really enjoyed. The fries are from a high quality potato and are almost airy. Delicious. My boyfriend got the pastrami sandwich — very good. Awesome place. We would go again.

It was a busy day at Asylum. The table is covered with a paper topper, makes it easier to clean I guess. The décor is outdated the carpet looks dirty the menu was also dirty from prior foodies. The restroom is beyond small, there was three of us trying to work around ourselves to wash our hands and use the restrooms. Anywho I would like to get to my biggest problem, the food. it was tasteless, I ordered a salad and after 4 bites into it I found a long hair. Had not much of an appetite so I informed my waiter and did not ask for anything else. Mind you, my server never smiled when he came to our table I knew my news would not make him any more happy. I was not expecting anything but a «Im sorry for the inconvenience«would’ve been nice. Its definitely more of an attraction experience than a restaurant. Never again. oh and I was not charged for the salad thank god!

Sadly, my experience was less then inviting. I walk in about 1:00 for lunch and waited about three minutes before maitre’d came to the desk. Once there he kept his head down and totally ignored me. I asked about seating and it was very clear I was an intrusion on his time and after his one word answer I stood and waited. He kept his head down, completely ignored me and did his paper work. After waiting for about another two minuets I was fed up and I walked out. I spoke to a local about my experience and she informed me there are new owners and she had the same experience. I had a great lunch at the Haunted Hamburger.

I loved it here ! The views alone from the top of this hill are amazing ! You can see the Red Rock of Sedona and as far as the snow capped San Francisco Peaks. We visited on Friday 10⁄23 for lunch. There wasn’t a wait at all. The entire place was thoroughly decorated for Halloween and all of the employees wore costumes. It was great ! We had the butternut squash soup. You MUST get this ! It was the best I’ve ever had. It was a little sweet but also had a hint of spicy. It was also topped with a cute cream spider web :) I had the veggie sandwich with fruit and my boyfriend had the turkey sandwich with fries. Both were really good ! Then we finished off with the chocolate cake for 2. My teeth and stomach hurt for the rest of the day but it was so worth it ! This place is a must if you visit Jerome.

We had an awesome view overlooking Jerome and the place itself was decorated to the T! We ate there for lunch and had calamari to start with. The calamari was awesome and it came with three different dipping sauces. I had the pastrami salad which was average. The cost for four people was much higher then a normal restaurant. I get its a tourist destination but I would’ve loved to see more history of the place besides the basic Halloween décor. Nowhere could I find where it said anything as to why it is called the asylum! A brief rundown of the building maybe on the menu would’ve been nice to increase the experience! Overall the view was awesome and the food wasn’t too bad.

Back at The Asylum! The butternut squash soup is just as good as last year. Beautiful views and wonderful food. Great combo.

I’m giving this place 5 stars because they carried Frank Family Pinot wine here and for the AWESOME butternut squash soup that was out of this world. I had the Caesar salad and it was yummy along with the calamari. We also has the cheesecake and it very very delish. Neat place in Jerome.

My husband and i used to live in Phoenix and visited Jerome from time to time. We had a chance to visit today and could not miss the Asylum restaurant. I had the spicy chicken salad– not breaded! Yum. And husband has the turkey sandwich with some type of honey jam which was fantastic. Only suggestion to chef would be to offer ‘extra spicy’ on the salad. The view is breathtaking. Service was fantastic. We tell anyone going to Jerome to save lunch for the Asylum. Each had one drink plus meals was $ 48.

We only got drinks from the bar and went outside on the patio this time here, but the drinks were pretty darn good and the weather was perfect, we even got a little rain! I want to eat here next time we go. I was told that this was the old hospital and it was turned into a restaurant and a hotel. I like the haunted factor too.

The views alone are worth the trip, the atmosphere is terrific, the service is friendly, and dinner is delicious. It’s pricey, but nothing in Jerome is cheap and, for my money, this is the best place to go out in a dress! We ate here twice on my birthday, lunch and dinner. We got to sit in the best seat in the house: a window that opens into a breathtaking view of the verde valley. For dinner, we started with the butternut squash soup, which was excellent, as all of the other reviews promised. Then, we both enjoyed the Chilean Sea Bass — definitely delicious, our server assured us it was the best item on the menu. The potatoes were smooth, the veggies were flavorful, and the fish was excellent. We finished with the crème brûlée– terrific caramelized shell and smooth, creamy custard. Lunch was good, too — the veggie sandwich had tons of veggies and lots of flavor. The salmon salad is pretty good, but no excellent(the fish was just ok), so I’d go for the sandwich instead, if I were you. The place has a cozy dining room with tons of authentic historical feel. The service is friendly and the water glasses stay full. We had a great time here!

You go here because it is the tourist place to go and because it has an amazing view. Otherwise, the food is just okay. The décor could use a huge update. The service is not bad. Definitely check it out, but don’t expect greatness. Just enjoy the view.

Two words: haunted bathroom! I came here on a late Sunday afternoon. The hotel was near empty as most guests had checked out hours ago. The Asylum wasn’t serving dinner quite yet, only one staff member was there, but she was happy to accommodate me with a snack. I had some ice cream with fruit and a drink. Not a high ticket sale for her, but I was treated to very pleasant, attentive service nonetheless. And was impressed with the scenic view of Jerome this place has. After finishing my ice cream and paying my bill, I went to use the bathroom behind the dining room, in the hotel itself. There was no one else around, so I was alone. But as I sat there, I was suddenly bombarded with all kinds of noise, coming from all angles. The sound of water running, screeching metal, and multiple conversations amongst several men and women. What was exceptionally weird, was that despite the noises being loud and sounding close, they also had a muffled quality… similar to when you’re swimming and can vaguely make out what people above water are saying. I got out of there as FAST as I could. Looked around the hallway of the hotel. No one. Looked around the Asylum again… the female server had stepped outside. No other guests were there either. The noise couldn’t be explained. Or could it? Later that day I bought a book on haunted places in Jerome. When I read the chapter on this building it sent chills down my spine. As it turns out, the wing of the hotel the bathroom is in was part of the emergency ward when the building was a hospital. Many people have reported hearing the same noises I did. The water? Doctors washing their hands. The voices? Nurses, doctors, and patients conversing. The metal screeching? Candy striper carts being pushed about. HOLY. MOLY. I’ve always believed in ghosts and the afterlife, but prior to this experience didn’t believe that multiple ghosts can reenact a shared experience from beyond the grave. That bathroom made a believer out of me though! Perhaps others have had the same happen to them and were brushed off as crazy though, hence the restaurant name the Asylum ;). I regret being too early to catch dinner, as I’ve heard it’s some of the best fare in town. Stopping in for a snack gave me waaay more than my moneys worth though: an experience I’ll never forget and will likely retell as long as I live.

If you like good food do not go to the asylum restaurant, $ 18.95 for a New York steak sandwich that had less than 3 ounces of meat on it and most of it was undercooked, The sandwich came with watercress and mayonnaise, poblano peppers, cheddar cheese, The fries it came with it were soft not crispy. The wait staff was excellent they handled everything that you wanted without question, The other 5 people in the group, three out of the five of us had the New York steak sandwich the same for them undercooked that were with us had issues with their food as well. I live in Sedona along with the other five people in my neighborhood we will not be returning.

My husband and I have fond memories of a lunch we had here three years ago. We love cutesie historic Jerome, so we made the Grand Jerome Hotel our destination this trip, met up with our Phoenix friend, and spent the night so we could slurp up Asylum’s signature cocktails and wine from their extensive wine list and only have to stumble up to our room after dinner. Our plan worked perfectly with the added bonus of an amazingly attentive waiter and an insanely delicious dessert. We showed up early and both window seats were taken and it was too cool to enjoy the view towards Sedona from the outdoor tables, so we ordered a bottle of wine from a back table near the bar. After our friend and our AZ Pipe Springs wine arrived along with my husband’s Manhattan, the waiter asked if he could help move us to the window table since it was now available so we got to enjoy the valley view throughout our enjoyable dinner. My friend said everytime she thought about asking for something, our waiter magically appeared. She took his suggestion for the southwest chicken and loved it. My husband’s rack of lamb was huge and perfectly prepared. I enjoyed my calimari, but the show stopper was the Insane Dessert menu especially the large slice of dense chocolate cake(with vanilla bean ice cream at my husband’s request. The waiter added two scoops just in case). The three of us managed to polish off the ginormous slice of cake and the ice cream because it was too darn tasty to stop. The restaurant and the hallway we stumbled down are full of antiques and old photos. This place is an historic wonderland with great food.

I know there is a joke somewhere in there about a person like me going to a restaurant entitled *Asylum*. The restaurant is named as such, as it’s located in the infamous Jerome Grand Hotel, previously a HOSPITAL(not mental hospital, sorry) — but a hospital with ghastly stories about people dying from being crushed by an elevator, and just dying in general, because that’s what sometimes happens in a hospital when things go terribly wrong in a mining community the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. Buck-toothed Joe Blow finds a 5lb piece of gold and One-eyed Bobby Jack gets jealous then beats the former with a two-by-four within an inch of his life, after a few card games and some Mississippi moonshine. The scene repeats itself in 2014 Jerome, Arizona, except moonshine is replaced by a case of Pabst and some beef jerky, and Buck-toothed Joe and One-eyed Bobby stagger into their studio apartment located beneath Haunted Hamburgers, complete with a queen-sized bed with a blood red bedspread. It’s a chilling scene. Even today, various ghost hunting shows have filmed in Jerome, and the restaurant capitalizes on the reputation by gussing up for Halloween, complete with a large spider, the size of an undersized Asian(ie. Me), climbing on the outside of the hotel. The ambiance of the restaurant is dark, with a twisty-looking wine holder and dark Tiffany-lampshade chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The swinging doors to the kitchen is labeled, «Autopsy Room», and the bathrooms have a very institution type feel. The kitchen and bathroom doors are directly across from each other, and our server remind all of us of Leonard from«The Big Bang Theory». Spooky. The food, fortunately, doesn’t consist of embalmed body parts and fermented beans — it’s your typical American fare — though the prices might cause you to shoot your own eyes out, especially if you’re paying. Most meat entrees are around $ 30.00, and with that you get a side of soup(bowl of butternut squash) or salad(bowl of mixed greens with your choice of Balsamic, Ranch and the Hair of the Dog that Bit you(not really, but I’m sure they could make it to order). The special for the day were beef tenderloin *bites* with a side of spinach pasta in mushroom sauce. Half of our table had that and the other half(wisely) Chilean Sea Bass with mashed potatoes. The tenderloin bites, described by Leonard as really«bite-sized pieces» resembled something a man on his death bed might cough up — flavorless bits and a little difficult to chew. Our Chilean Sea Bass was great, however — perfectly cooked with a simple sauce, and some nifty mashed potatoes. There were cauliflowers, broccoli accompanying and all tasted fine. Some of us also had cocktails — Manhattan and Margarita — and both were good. The dessert looked interesting, though with an hour plus drive through the climbing windy road that will take us back to Prescott ahead of us, with a flatulent dog and a car full of passengers filled with mashed potatoes and beef — we wisely decided against.
