Someone told me this was the best Mole around. He said it was even better than any he had tried during his back packing trip of mexico. So I gave it a shot. I’ve only had mole a few times in my life so not much I can compare to but it surely was the best out of those I have tried.

I live in Las Colinas and just now found this place. Oh. My. Gosh. Their breakfast buffet available on the weekends is a MUSTTRY. This place is a definite«hole in the wall» Great hospitality. Good quality food. Amazing value. Not to mention the cutest couple owns the place. Also, I must note that I called at about 7:30am one Sunday to place an order for 50 breakfast tacos(for a hungry restaurant staff preparing for the brunch shift) to be picked up at 9:00. The girl that took the call was incredibly sweet and accommodating. I work in a restaurant and I appreciate the heartwarming service! The tacos were ready at 9:00am and the total was around $ 80. Steal! They’re HUGE tacos and so yummy. All of our staff was so complimentary of them. Thanks for the satisfying breakfast for all! I will continue to go back and recommend them to friends and co-workers. Delish.

I have been here before a few years ago and I went to the drive thru to get breakfast tacos, so I have never actually been inside. I was craving Mexican food for lunch so of course I checked Unilocal for locals reviews and they were pretty decent. I’m really glad I gave La Mexicana a try. For me if you don’t have a good cheese enchilada with red sauce then I’m not really inclined to try anything else. I was rolling with my vegetarian coworker and I always wonder if there will be something she can eat. She was going to go with cheese enchiladas since they you were able to still get breakfast she went with migas which looked delicious. I can truly say they make a really good cheese enchilada. Not only was it appealing it was very tasty, no canned enchilada sauce here if it is they do really well at doctoring it up. The beans and rice were standard, i enjoyed them both. I also took a gamble and order 1 El Pastor Taco since individual tacos or so inexpensive. I’m glad I did too. the meat in the taco I could taste the hint of pineapple which so many places lack. It was lunch so I didn’t take advantage of the full bar including many choices for Tequila shots and if you want a cervaza they have them. The one slightly negative is they charge for refills on chips but the waitress told us and we decided against them, which really we didn’t need more chips but that black bean dip and hot sauce if we would have had more chips we would have finished both of those. I would recommend anyone stop and give it a try. I’ll be back to sample more offerings from the menu.

This review is for the weekend buffet. This is one of those indiscernible hole-in-the-wall Mexican places in South Irving but with outstanding value for money for the quality of food and service. Yes, they speak English and are hospitable. However, don’t come here expecting Tex-Mex, it’s authentic central Mexican DF style of cooking. There were papusas, eggs, taquitos, home-style potatoes, menudo, rice, beans, enchiladas, chilaquiles, salad and dessert bars on the side. They also served fresh warm corn tortillas on the table. For $ 9, buffet food doesn’t get better than this. Everything on the spread tasted fresh and home made including the guacamole and salsa. Special mention: the Menudo was one of the best I’ve had. A hearty infusion of smooth-skinned tripe, dried red chilies, coriander, oregano and bay leaves. The spices provide a pungent backdrop to the assertive texture and flavor of the tripe. I was compelled to get seconds.

Called in about 30 minutes before I came for 40 breakfast tacos. There were accommodating, got everything right, and labeled everything for us. As well as gave us plenty of salsa. The food was still hot when I brought them into my office. Everyone raved about how delicious the food was. And the salsa was fantastic! I got enough for two per person, but one would have been plenty. Each taco comes with potatoes, eggs and cheese as well as your choice of meat. One would have done the trick, but two stuffed me. I will say though that the price of breakfast tacos went up to $ 1.50 and is no longer $ 1.35. Will I be back? Well, I actually still have some left over now because they were so big… but next time I have breakfast, most definitely!

4.5 stars! Can’t get the app to do half stars… This is not your typical Tex-Mex joint. We came in for Sunday brunch buffet on this, our first visit. The food was fresh and very flavorful. A stewed beef dish, green tomatillo casserole and the eggs & chorizo were standouts. Oh, and the breakfast potatoes — delicious! The posole had great flavor & the right amount of heat. DONOTSKIPTHEDESSERTS! They are all delicious! We almost passed them by but we are glad we didn’t. Flan, brownies, moist lemon cake, cheesecake, and AMAZING rice pudding with cinnamon — everything tasted so good. We found out after we were full that omelettes and pancakes are also available with the buffet — next time! It was very busy but service was very good. A woman who might be «La Mexicana» herself stopped by and asked if everything was good. She was very friendly and told us all the food was homemade, which did not surprise us at all. Overall, a great find not too far from home. We will be back!

Fast friendly service. Seams to be very efficient. Has buffet for breakfast which was mostly okay. Beans chorizo and eggs were great. Made to order eggs and tortillas!!! Stew was a surprise because it was either lamb or bad meat lol. Menudo was bitter but never seen menudo on buffet before! Breakfast torta was good never seen that before either! Cheap bill too!!! I would at least try it…

Typically buffet food is mediocre at best, but here, it is much much better! The outside may be a little off-putting, but they do offer drive through service. The parking lot could stand to be paved, as right now it seems to be more like a dirt road. However, once you step inside, the food makes you forget about any cosmetic defects of the parking lot. The breakfast/brunch buffet is full of several tasty treats, from caldos, papusas, huevos and more. Everything is incredibly tasty and besides that, they have a full bar! Bottom line, this is a jewel of Irving, and a great place to go. The only reason a star is missing is the service could be a little better, but it is still good. Try it! You won’t regret it!

My bf and I went in the middle of the afternoon so we were served as soon as we were seated. It made me kind of sad that their chips and salsa were given only once and any more refills would add an extra charge to the bill. But I supposed that’s a good thing ’cause I tend to overeat on chips and salsa making myself full before the actual entrée comes out. I ordered the steak a la mexicana which had onions, pepper, and steak in a tomato-based broth. It came with beans and rice to make fajitas. The entrée was actually a decent size. I only made one fajita and took the rest to-go(darn those chips and salsa). Overall, our waitress was nice and the food was good.

Watch out Taco Stop, because LMYEG dishes up a breakfast taco that’s right on par with the best I’ve had in Dallas thus far. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? Local to the core, LMYEG has a fiercely loyal fanbase, and for good reason. Whether you’re dining in and enjoying some huevos rancheros or passing through on your way to work for a breakfast torta and some tacos for the office, you’ll be catered to in good time from someone with a smile. And they have a drive thru! Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? While they’re not $ 1.00 like nearby Dona Lencha, LMYEG’s breakfast tacos(breakfast burritos as they call them) ring in at only $ 1.35 each, and for what you get, that’s brilliant. Have a look: Compare that to some of the other options in DFW, and you can understand why that’s an amazing price: La Mexicana Y El Gringo: $ 1.35 each Dona Lencha: $ 1.00 each Taco Stop: $ 1.80 each Rusty Taco: $ 2.00 each Luna’s Tortilla Factory: $ 1.50 each Tacodeli(Austin): $ 2.95 each Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Wow. Take a fresh tortilla, mix in some cooked to order eggs mixed with potatoes and your breakfast meat of choice, and there you have it. Quality, quantity, and a solid breakfast option. I’ll be honest, I liked the chorizo option a whole lot better than the sausage taco, but I suppose that comes down to preference. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? With prices and quality like these, yes. I like LMYEG better than Dona Lencha, Rusty Taco, and nearby Luna’s, and put it right on par with Taco Stop. I’ll be back to try the torta, and depending on how that goes? I may just bump this to five stars. Star Granted.

Pretty Good Mexican Food, If I return I will order from the menu We went over the weekend for the brunch buffet, which was very affordable at $ 7 per person… the food looked great and seemed authentic, but what kept coming back to my mind was that this buffet was tortilla on top of tortilla… chilaquiles, tacos, flautas, enchiladas, popusas, everything was with tortilla. Some of the highlights were the enchiladas which tasted great… the rest was just average. The owner says they change the buffet weekly to keep it fresh and that is good, but I think It will be better to try a few menu items instead of food sitting on the buffet. I may go back and give it a second chance if I am in the area.

I love this place. And I especially love the fact that I can spend around $ 4 and get quite full, especially if you arrive alone(this means no sharing of the complimentary chips & salsa/refried beans!) What I usually order is the chicken flour taco and/or the beef fajita taco. It comes with diced tomatoes and onions on the side with a spicy sauce also on the side and bell peppers already on the taco. Each one is $ 1.75 which isn’t bad if you are buying two and are enjoying the chips and salsa. Another good dish is the sope. They’re very fresh, coming with lettuce, tomatoes, a choice of meat(I usually choose beef fajita) with sour cream and refried beans underneath it all. I tend to make a me Keep in mind if you are paying under $ 5, they request to not use your credit/debit card as for fee purposes, so please bring cash! I imagine this as a great place for lunch, food is always great, and the servers are always kind and welcoming

Love the warm salsa with a nice spicy bite to it, along with the black bean dip they serve. Have been here a couple of times with co-workers for lunch. Working in Irving, MacArthur and 114 area, it’s hard to find a place that’s not a chain. This place is a gem in the rough. The food has been fresh, service is good and don’t tell anyone but the margaritas were good too!

Had one delicious breakfast, a huge portion of Huevos Rancheros with beans and home fries & a spicy sauce with flour tortillas. Eggs were cooked perfectly, over easy, as I asked. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. Service was friendly & efficient. The ambience was fine: nothing fancy, but clean & welcoming.

I have a colleague who says I find fantastic places to eat whenever our team all flies into town. He was coming in last eve, hoping to be similarly wowed. Given the physical limitations(around DFW apt., no chains) I decided«authentic» Mexican might do the trick. With the guidance of you Unilocalers. I picked«La Mexicana Y El Gringo.» As promised, it was Da Bomb. Love Love their black bean dip and chips. The décor wont impress your boss perhaps, but your expense report will. A great variety of tacos, tortas, and other standards. I had the grilled tilapia with shrimp, and it was just wonderful. Very moist and flavorful, served with delicious rice and beans. Not sure what the beans are called, but they little slices of hot dog mixed in. A fun surprise. My colleague had the fajita plate and he proclaimed them to be very good. I did notice however he did only pick at his refried beans. His margarita glass was very empty. All in all, I think he enjoyed his little taste of authentic Mexican fare on his layover in DFW. Find that in Seattle!

After living in South Texas, I’ve had more than my fill of TexMex. I rarely crave it and often loathe it. What I do crave is something a little less Tex and a little more Mex. This is what I expected from a place called La Mexicana Y El Gringo. Yes, yes… I know that«Mexican food» is nearly as vague as simply«food.» But I am generally open minded to enjoy any authentic cuisine. So my journey commenced. The outside of the restaurant left very little clues about the place. Giant sign in the parking lot, no decorations on the outside. I almost missed it. Good sign so far! The inside, however, was more like a theme park’s idea of what a Mexican restaurant should look like. womp womp. A little disappointing, but nothing offensive. On to the food. Overall, everything was very over salted. Chips, menudo, black bean dip, el pastor taco all suffered. I could not finish any of them. The only item that I had that was saved from the salt bath was the barbacoa, but it was very bland a dry. The service was excellent. Too bad the food did not live up.

Great food. Asshole owner. This is probably my favorite Taqueria in all of DFW. It beats the hell out of any mexican fast food chains and the prices are cheaper too. They have some of the best tacos around and the salsa is so flavorful that your head might actually explode… The beer is pretty cheap and they have a buffet during the daytime. Also free chips and salsa if you order in. The hand made tortillas go perfectly with any meal there. Now the bone I have to pick is with the owner because he charged me extra on a 16 oz container of salsa even though his employee was at fault. He was rude and not understanding but I respected his word even though I did not agree. Avoid the Jimmy Buffet lookin’ ass and all should go well. Also be sure to try the tacos al pastor if it’s your first rodeo at La Mexicana Y El Gringo.

I recently was asked by a business colleague from Nashville to pick a place for a breakfast meeting. His only criteria were close to the airport and good food. Although my office is in Irving, I am not all that familiar with the area. So I logged onto Unilocal and let my fellow Unilocalers, based on their stars, pick our spot. And, wow, you didn’t let me down! I love a spicy hot breakfast in which the caffeine isn’t the only ingredient that wakes you up. And this place delivered. My Monterrey omelette, with chorizo, jalapenos, and queso covered in a spicy red sauce was just what the doctor ordered. It was accompanied by refried beans and homemade tortillas. One colleague enjoyed Huevos Rancheros and the other eggs with biscuits and gravy. Most breakfast offerings are under $ 6 — a great value for some quality food. I can’t wait to try them for lunch. And I will definitely join them for breakfast again sometime soon.

The warm stewed tomato salsa and chips are the best part. I just want to drown all of my tacos and entrees in this mother. The black bean dip that accompanies the salsa is just a-ok…a little bland I think and needs some salt. I’ve been on a taco tour as of late, trying to find a taqueria that serves up some mean al pastor tacos. You know, the kind where the meat is juicy and spicy with little chunks of grilled pineapple? Overall, the tacos 3.5 stars. They come in the standard flour or corn tortilla and the tacos are NEVER greasy which is what I want. The barbacoa and lengua is underseasoned. I guess it doesn’t matter since I’ve already smothered salsa over those. I’ve tried the Chicken Mole enchiladas and thought the sauce was too bitter for my taste. They serve theirs with a little salad, beans, and rice. If I’m in Irving, I’d prefer the mole at La Joya’s which is always balanced with a hint of sweetness and savoriness. The entrée taco plate is yummy. Get the chicken. it’s charbroiled and so so good. The freshness of the guacamole and pico de gallo that comes with most entrees is questionable though so I always tell them to leave it out. The iceberg lettuce in the salad is never fresh. That sucks, I love me some fresh lettuce with my tacos. I love the one waiter that always works there who always gets the order right. Oh and you know, they have a drive-thru so you don’t have to hop out of your car the next time you wanna take tacos home.
