I came here with my 64-year-old mother. She has knee pains and needs a lot of support for her feet to take off the pressure from her knees. Yes, I know it’s Valentine’s Day and everyone probably would rather be with/at someone/somewhere else besides customers/work. The employee Reggie(Reginald) Baines seemed anxious to help us at first but quickly grew impatient and frustrated with my mom because she didn’t know what kind of shoes/inserts she needed, and he wasn’t able to advise. Mom accidentally discovered the ABEO pad that measures your foot structure and walking habits. She saw a female employee using it and asked how it worked. I didn’t get her name but Reggie never made this tool known. The store closed at 7 pm on Sunday(2÷14÷16) and Reggie closed the doors at 6:40. I watched him turn 5 customers away while saying«What do you want? What are you looking for? We’re closing soon! Hurry up!» He allowed 1 woman in because she insisted it wouldn’t take long and she just wanted to look at sandals real quick. He was constantly checking his watch while«helping» my mom, even while he was ringing up her shoes. Mom picked out some ABEO brand shoes and said she instantly felt great walking, no more pain. Shoes make all the difference in your daily outdoor activities and it’s important to pick out the right shoes/inserts for support, especially if you’re paying top dollar. I recommend this company; however, I don’t recommend Reggie. Avoid him at all costs! The employees don’t wear name tags so the only way I can describe him as is an African American in his 40s. The female employee is a Hispanic in her 20−30s; she was helpful.

When I moved to Houston years ago, a friend who is a nurse visited me and we went to the Galleria. He wanted some work shoes and so we found ourselves here. Since my job was(and still is) one where I spend about half my day walking, I decided to get some as well. Well those shoes lasted about 4 years. I never really replaced them with another pair of Danskos. I just made do with Sketchers, Nike Air, and just about any supposed comfortable sport shoe I could find. But after this last bout of plantar fasciitis(aka«heel spurs») and no pair of shoes correcting it, I had to find my way back to the Walking Company. So why would I need to go here? Couldn’t I just buy these shoes online? I could, but I would have spent more and possibly got something useless. Dansko is making more«sporty» shoes or shoes that look like you would wear them with a nice pair of slacks. And I wanted THOSE shoes this time, not those big bulky clogs. Well the sales person told me those shoes are made to look nice and will not support your feet as well as the clogs. And those«sporty» or «dress» shoes? They actually cost more than the clogs he was steering me towards. So the sales guy actually saved me about $ 30 – 40. So you know which shoes you want? Well because the sizing is Euro, it’s better to try them on or have an experienced sales person help you if you are only used to U.S. sizing. Now maybe you don’t mind having to return shoes to one of the many online retailers, but if, like me, your feet are killing you, then don’t mess with all that — just go here!

Hats, or should I say«Shoes off» to Hank, the Store Manager of the Walking Company. I had some shoes to return for both myself and my husband and Hank asked me some questions as to what we would be doing, my husband’s weight/size and made some very good suggestions for cross trainers as well as some insoles. I found some great Ecco cross trainers, lightweight, cute and specific to my purpose. He and his staff made my trip to the Walking Company effortless and fun. I have purchased several pairs of shoes from this location and would Highly recommend to anyone wanting to find shoes that not only look nice but are nice to your feet. Thanks Walking Company!!!

Okay, I’m going to have to support Shana wholeheartedly on this store. I mean, the idea that cute shoes can be comfortable is beyond me. I’m a girl that loves heels. You’ll hardly ever find me in less than 3 inches, but now that I walk from my parking lot(hey, any amount of exercise helps, right? Right?!), I find myself in a bind. Yes, I could do the old lady thing of wearing tennis shoes from the lot to the office, but the problem is that my pants are always hemmed for three inches too long and no matter how you roll them up, they manage to fall down right as you’re crossing a big puddle. No, my friends, I’ve found the solution. The Walking Company is one of those stores you always pass by, but never stop in. Well, I did. And while my friends were looking at the men’s side, I went to «just look» at what they carried for women. And I found the most adorable pair of red shoes. I love red shoes. I love red anything really, but shoes?! I had a pair of maroon heels that have just been worn too much(I think I’ve had the heel replaced 7 times now) and I’d been looking for a shoe to just«pop» ever since. So I get the saleslady to bring me a pair(and she was strangely helpful – I saw strangely because her make-up gave her the appearance of some kind of hungry dragon.. .scary) and voila! I was in heaven. My feet were on a soft cushion of pillows and I felt like I could shop for hours more. They were having their buy one, get the second one half off sale and I toyed with the idea of getting it in another color(perhaps a more sensible color?), but I decided against it since I was supposed to behave. But since I felt bad for not buying my husband anything, he got four pairs of socks. But not just any kind of socks – ones with a lifetime guarantee. Whaaa? Yep, a lifetime guarantee. Evidently if you ever get a hole in these puppies, you bring them by and they’ll replace them. Between that, my shoes, and their nifty punch card, I left there a happy camper – and styling in some new red shoes.

I like sensible shoes. I also like pretty shoes. Can both things exist in the same shoe? I’d like to think so. The Walking Company is just the place to find such an elusive hybrid. The Walking Company at the Galleria is one of the best shoe stores around. With brands like ecco, Mephisto, Merrell, Dansko, and Clarks, you’ve opened up your shoe buying options. Not only will you be able to find shoes for hiking and power walking, they also have great looking shoes that are good for your feet that are appropriate for the office or for a night out. While most people think you have to sacrifice beauty for comfort, Walking Company proves you can wear those beautiful heels without paying for it later. These are far from what my sister would call a ‘potato shoe’ — they have stylish and comfortable footwear that was meant to ease discomfort and get you through your work day with happy feet. The Walking Company should be a stop for anyone looking for shoes that are of the highest quality with your comfort in mind. This is one reason to go to the Galleria and come out a satisfied shopper.
