Sunshine’s Health Food Store And Vegetarian Deli

I absolutely LOVE everything on the menu. I try something new each visit & have yet to be disappointed. The food & the energy of this place keep me coming back for more. I’m currently plotting on the black bean vegan nachos for lunch today

I had a horrible experience. … they forgot to put my food in the bag yet gave me hell to get sandwich.

Okay so I ordered the porta wrap with avocado in a lettuce wrap instead of the spinach wheat wrap. Instead I get pieces of lettuce meshed together to form some sort of wrap drenched in sauce and probably 5 or 6 little mushrooms with a thin slice of avocado.
I’m sorry but wtf is that? I didn’t pay $ 11 for some soggy lettuce and a few pieces of mushrooms.
Fail.
I’ll stick to my Green Seed Vegan for my vegan needs.

I’m kind of obsessed with this place! My coworkers and I visit weekly. The vegan nachos are my absolute fave with the spicy black bean burger as a close second. The almond pâté, bean threads and various kale sides are also DELICIOUS! Can’t wait to try the other menu items! Highly recommended.

The vegan nachos are DELICIOUS, I promise you will not realize the meat and cheese aren’t real! The very first time I ate at Sunshine I was very skeptical but there really isn’t one thing one the menu I dislike. I love the burgers and the raw plates are excellent. Sunshine is a healthy place but you can eat here with anyone because the food is that good! The service is also very good. They are extremely patient because I’m indecisive. I haven’t had many of their fresh juices and smoothies yet but the «thin me» is my fave.
I love the new location.

I am a natural regular at this joint! The employees are like my family! I love the spunk of the waitstaff — and this new location is better suited for the upbeat energy associated with the eclectic food options! Just have to be patient as they work through the kinks :).
My all time favorites are the white bean soup, bean threads, black bean po-​boy, potato salad… I can go on and on!!! The smoothies are amazing, the lemonade is so good! OOOOO and I must admit, this is where I come to get my E-​dub delicious fix… (
) has the most amazing Vegan cookies and cupcakes options in the world — and they are sold here!!! DON’T BELIEVE ME? Try them for yourself! My mouth is watering as I type this message in anticipation of the next time I will enjoy the soul satisfying, pallet quenching loveliness in the form of a cookie! MMM!
I love that this store also carries herbs and various health products.
The last time I visited I noticed that the patio has opened! I can see in the future there may possibly be gardening, yoga, and other types of classes/​meetups being held in that space. I plan to keep my eyes pealed for all the things to come!

This place is a hole in the wall vegan heaven! This is our second time to have lunch here and everything we ordered was perfection! Their avocado wrap and portabello mushroom burger is simply the best! Of course their kale lemon salad goes well with it! Can’t wait to try everything in their menu!

They have a large variety of vegan options on their menu that include smoothie, nori, and even enchiladas!
I always feel welcomed when I go to this resturant.
They have a little section in the back where they sell Shea Butter, black soap, vegan cupcakes, and ginger beer. –a lot of carribbean and African products to choose from!
Out of all the resturants that I’ve been to in houston, I would have to say that sunshine is my #1 favorite!

I used to go to Sunshine’s pretty regularly when they were at their old location near the University of Houston. Now they’re just down the street from my apartment! The new location is bigger and brighter! And the food is the same! They have a raw bar — full of delicious kale salads, almond pâté, carrot salads, etc. They also have a full menu of sandwiches, wraps, and burgers. I got a small order of their vegan nachos (which are pretty delicious), and a trio from their raw bar (garlic kale, carrots & raisins, and almond pâté). Healthy, light meal!

This is my favorite vegan place. Smoothies, salads, wraps, soups are all wonderful! It has become my go-​to-​lunch place!

15 mins for a small basic smoothie and it was NOT slammed. Miscommunication among employees.
Lastly, I saw a roach move underneath their «grocery area» of baked goods. The place has potential, but no thanks.
First and last time here…

Great, fresh food, and wonderful customer service. The tex mex burger was so good I almost got another one but I was so full. You can never go wrong with the nachos, and there smoothie are to die for. The yea mon is awesome, large size that will last all day if you have self control. There new location is really clean and super cozy.
I recommend this place to anyone who’s hungry.

So good that I temporarily forget about my carnivorous ways. Also, I like the new location a lot better.

I looooove this place. They have really good options for vegan food. The people are friendly and helpful, and they let you have samples to help you decide on your order. Pretty much everything is good. You really can’t go wrong. I was sad to see them move from MLK, but the new location (old beau coup location) is definitely better than the old one, and is more convenient.
Green seed (on almeda) better step it up. Sunshine is much closer to them now, so the competition is real.
Must try the pâté!

This was my very first visit at Sunshine’s and I will be back! I ordered a spicy black bean burger and mix kale salad and it was really good. The service was great and the staff was friendly. I will be back to try everything on the menu!

Excellent vegan enchiladas!!! Very friendly staff, and pleasant crowd, and clean space.

Can’t say enough about Sunshine’s! The food is literally amazing. Get to know the owner, Arga. She takes care of me. She cured my tequila hangover with ginger tea, cold pressed juice, straight ginger shot and hummus. If you’re under the weather ask for apple cider vinegar shots.

Decided to try this today for lunch and so glad we did. I got the veggie burger with cheese and it was super filling. The cashier suggested garlic kale as a side since that’s what they are known for. I wouldn’t consider myself a kale lover by any means and this was fantastic! I was so full from the burger I took my side of kale to go. Can’t wait to eat it later today! Try this place– I’m not even vegetarian and I am definitely going back!

I am NOT a vegetarian But I don’t ever need another cheeseburger after having that black bean burger. It was melt in your mouth delicious!!! The patty was seated with crispy edges just like meat. The garlic kale was super tangy and spicy but good. The almond pâté’ reminds me of a really yummy chicken salad. The noodle salad was also good but not heavily seasoned, still good. Service was good but a bit slow. However I am not complaint because my food was super fresh. I will be back for that burger on the regular

This place was busy as heck on Saturday with a steady flow of people with limited seating. So worth it though. The food was simply amazing, fresh, and healthy. I’m in love!
Service is super friendly and there’s some really unique health items & yummy drinks for sale. Awesome that they sell ckls!
We got 5 sides, bean threads, lemon kale, garlic kale, Cole slaw, almond pâté (so delicious), and a veggie burger, mini zucchini bread, strawberry banana smoothie, green oz juice, dark chocolate cashew drink, chips, and grape juice for like $ 45 ish bucks. Ate like vegetarian kings that day. Will definitely be back.
Tip: call order in advance, and ensure you park in the designated fenced off area.

I’m not a vegetarian and I’m definitely not vegan but I absolutely love love love Sunshine’s. Everything is so flavorful and not at all what I thought vegetarian food would be. Their spicy black bean burger is phenomenal and by far my favorite in Houston. When I want something lighter, I go for their mixed kale, garlic kale or bean thread noodles. They recently moved to a nicer location and aren’t as close to my office as they used to be but I still make an effort to come out and eat here because I’m crazy about it!

Sunshine’s recently moved to this new location and the interior looks so much cleaner and nicer than their old location on the other side of 288. The menu seems to have remained the same. Their garlic kale and almond pâté are just as excellent, and they still fill the to-​go container to the brim with the 3 salad combo that I always order. My lemon kale this time around was not as lemon-​y as in the past, but it was likely just an aberrant batch.
There is not yet a sign on the big grey building housing Sunshine’s. Parking is available in the chain-​linked fence area upstream of the restaurant, not in the Guy’s Meat Market lot.

I feel like I’m always chasing down this place and writing reviews because of the moving around they have been doing, but it’s definitely worth it tho. Now this new location is the best of them all. Nice interior and now they deliver your food directly to your table. The food is still solid (that garlic kale tho!) and service seems to be a bit faster. Nice upgrades like a bigger flatscreen tv and more available seating. I drive from clear across the city just for lunch often, it’s that good. There is a parking lot on the side of the building with a fence, so don’t park in Gus’ parking spots or you’ll get towed! What else can I say, I love the joint and this location is definitely longer term. Love eating their «good for the soul food».

This is my go to place. Without Sunshine’s I would be at a loss for good veg food. No place in Houston comes close to their variety, seasoning, and taste. Did I say they SEASON their food?? When your meat happy family chooses Sunshine over meat places… you know their food is EXCELLENT! They are located at 3102 Old Spanish Trail now. You will love the staff.

Oh my gosh. I kept meaning to go here when it was at the other location but since they are closer to my work I popped over for lunch. Everything was clean and the people working there were all really nice. It was a cool vibe. So many options!!! It was impossible to choose, I wanted them all. I had one of the lunch specials, the black bean burger and it beat EVERY OTHER VEGGIE BURGER in Houston hands down. Being a vegan living with an omnivore, I feel like I’ve tried them all. All the ingredients were perfectly balanced and fresh and the bread was light but crusty, just delicious! I will be back often. I also got some vegan choc chip cookies to go and they are excellent!!! I’m so happy I tried it!

The best vegetarian food I’ve ever had. Everything is fresh and top quality. In town visiting and will have to come here as much as possible while I can! Kale salad, hummus, juices, lentil soup, burgers, all seriously impressive flavors. Great vibes as everyone who works there is customer service oriented and goes above and beyond. Wow! What else can I say… Wish you were in the SF Bay Area!

I inhaled the food here, with a double helping of kale (garlic kale and mixed green kale), pickled beets, and a delicious noodle salad. Nothing has tasted this good and felt so good afterwards!
It’s a deli atmosphere, with no sign outside that I could find, but damn, it’s good. And the staff are super friendly and enthusiastic about newbies.

I miss this place so much! So satisfying! They’ve moved (out towards hobby) a bit farther than the previous location near U of H so I don’t get to frequent it as much. The black bean burger is awesome. I’ve had better juices though. I normally do a veggie plate with the lemon garlic kale (best kale I’ve had better than whole foods and mine), potato salad, and this noodle dish. The also have a variety of health related books and products to purchase while you wait. I re-​up on my ACV and black seed oil or soaps for sure. Definitely check them out guys you won’t be disappointed.
