Great local spot. Authentic food and quick service. My favorite phở and tapioca smoothies in the Clear Lake area.

Got bun thit nuong. The nuoc mam did not taste good. It tasted kind of flavorless or watered down, which is absurd because the main component is fish sauce. They also did not give enough nuoc mam, so the noodles were super super dry. There were no vegetables! Just shredded carrots, plus peanuts and the meat. I have to say that the thit nuong was adequately tasty, so 2 stars for that. I also got milk tea, and I could taste old milk.

I ordered the banh mi pork and let me tell you something, it is something very special. The baguette is toasted to perfection, pork has a very sweet smooth bbq taste. Goes well with the carrots and jalepeño. I love coming to this place. Rest assure i will be back.

My boyfriend and I had their bahn mi and it was very disappointing. The bread was stale, the meat was cold, bland, and was very skimpy.

I decided to go out of the way to try this random place based on the reviews on Unilocal. It was alright, but not amazing. I had the meatball phở and I found the meatballs a little tough and the flavor a little lacking compared to some other Phở places I’ve been. It’s not bad by any means, but with so many other places in town that have similar menus I’m not rushing back.

Perfect place with no-frills but always consistent. It’s a good stop to get my Phở fix after travel. I usually come after landing in Hobby. It’s on the way home and i usually don’t feel like cooking after a trip. Stop by and GOALREADY for some good, basic Vietnamese food that doesn’t disappoint.

Over rating bad service, never to order Vietnamese egg roll. They used a lot… A LOT .MSG in the foods. I will never return or recommend.

Friendly staff. The food comes out fast. My favorite Vietnamese food without going to belaire. Everything I’ve had here is great and the prices are decent. The egg rolls are so good

I completely enjoy their springrolls! I probably order them on a daily to go! They’re also huge, bigger than most spring rolls I’ve ate! Really yummy I suggest this place for their springrolls and their rice platters — my favorite being the Vietnamese shaken beef!

Always in the mood for Vietnamese sandwiches so I thought I’d check this place out. Also had a order of their Vietnamese eggrolls. I had the barbecue pork sandwich and have to admit that pork was very well cooked and had a nice grilled flavor. It came in a baguette that was thinner than most Vietnamese sandwiches. It had the typical cucumber, jalapeño, cilantro, and shaved carrot accompaniment. I don’t know if it was because the barbecued pork in the sandwich was lukewarm but the sandwich just didn’t really have any pop to it. I’m used to Vietnamese sandwiches thrilling my mouth with the flavors of warm pork meat and the contrasting textures of the crisp coolness of the cucumber, but this one was just okay, flavorful meat with nothing outstanding about it. The eggrolls were beautifully presented with a nice deepfried crisp on the exterior. It comes on a plate loaded with lettuce leaves, sprouts, and cilantro. My friend that went with me loved them. I thought they were ok but only because I’m used to Chinese egg rolls. They also have fresh lemonade but no refills. All in all a good place for a Vietnamese fix if you don’t want to drive far for outstanding sandwiches.

Best Viet food in this area! While there are better Viet restaurants around Houston, this is the best place if you don’t feel like driving too far. I recommend the cornish hen, charcoal chicken, and the banh mi with the fried egg. Skip the boba. It’s powdered.

Banh mi was amazing! I visited for the first time with my sister and we are extremely satisfied. The sandwiches took a bit to be ready but totally worth the wait.

Great bahn mi and goi cuon. I definitely want to come back and try the phở and vermicelli. Portions and prices were good. I’m really glad that I found this place. A word of warning, though. English is not their strong point. It might take a little effort to get questions answered, but the food is worth it.

I love this place! I’ve been coming here for over ten years and will continue until they close the doors. The charcoal pork and chicken are great in any of the dishes. The filet mignon with salad is one of my many favorites and you can’t beat the sandwiches. Don’t pass up the jack fruit smoothies.

First time eating here and at a Vietnamese restaurant and it was the worst experience I have ever had wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Cashier never asked whether I was dining in or out gave me hard time choosing what to eat, being that it was my first time… Make sure you bring cash want take anything under a 5 $. Customer service sucked told me to go sit down asked for fried spring roles got that wrong and swore I didn’t and ask for them and acted as if they weren’t going to remake them oh and the sandwich lacked the little meat it was suppose to have in it. By far worst experience then go to a fast food Taco Bell.

Good stuff: grilled pork sandwich, it’s juicy, crunchy baguette. Grilled pork rice platter is good as well, pork is juicy and tasty. It lacks of some pickled veggies like other places Bad stuff: Beef Phở. When the beef broth tasted like chicken broth mixed with water, I preferred it to be called chicken phở instead. On the veggies plate, there’s no culantro, but cilantro instead, that’s a sign it’s not an authentic phở place. I had a large bowl which is a small size compares to many other Vietnamese restaurants, and $ 8.50 for this small ration? Definitely come back for the sandwich, but the phở, no thanks! There are tons of restaurants that serving good phở in Houston.

UPDATE5⁄2014: I’ve been to Hoang My a couple times since originally writing the below review in January 2014, and it seems the aforementioned rude employee no longer works here. I’ve therefore increased my star rating to reflect this improvement! PREVIOUSREVIEW: Pretty good food, causal but comfortable dinning atmosphere, and hit or miss service. The one thing that bugs me the most about this place concerns one employee in particular who has been here each of the six or seven times I’ve been here. She’s always relatively friendly with me up until it’s time for me to pay my check. Because this is more a casual style of setup where you pay at the front counter after you’ve eaten rather than at your table, you are also expected to tip right in front of your server if s/he is cashing you out(assuming you’re paying with a credit/debit card). This generally wouldn’t bother me, as I’m certainly not a stingy tipper. But there’s something a bit awkward about the way this server in question very obviously pauses to inspect my receipt to see what I tipped her(otherwise what else is she looking for; a legible signature?). After doing this, she rudely walks away from me and won’t say a word as I leave, as if she’s offended by my tip! She does it every.single.time without fail. I usually order the same dish when I’m here: the charcoal chicken with extra veggies in place of some of the rice, which is a pretty good dish for the price, just for the record. It’s not a hugely costly menu item on its own(I’m usually on a short lunch break between classes, so it’s not like I’m going to order an elaborate four course meal or anything). My tip therefore might appear small as well. However, percentage-wise, I always leave a very reasonable ~22% tip. How is that not good enough for something so simple? Look, it’s not like I’m getting five-star service here. Often the only time my server even approaches my table is to give me my food. This sort of limited service isn’t a big deal to me, except for the fact that I’m apparently expected to tip more than 22% here. Am I missing something? Other than this one employee, however, the employees here are mostly very friendly and helpful. If it wasn’t for the fact that I end up encountering this rude, socially awkward server each and every time I go here, I would definitely give the restaurant a higher rating.

Strip Center? Near an Asian Food Market? Bingo! Oddly enough there are actually 2 Vietnamese spots in this strip center, but I’ve only been to Hoang My’s. Additionally, if you’re just trying to handle your banh mi cravings, the deli inside the supermarket has them. The spot is a standard local Vietnamese spot. It’s not super hardcore like heading out to Bellaire, nor is it real fancy like eating downtown. Plenty of seating, pleasant staff, reasonable prices. If you’re on a 10 max budget for lunch, you could eat like a king here. I’ve been to this spot a few times, and usually I get — chargrilled pork banh mi(with a ca phe sue da — I end up spending about 5.50, and 2.50 of that is for the coffee) or — bun with beef and lemongrass I’m not an expert on Vietnamese cuisine, but these are the 2 things I get at all Viet spots around the H. The Banh Mi is on point. And the vermicelli, beef, fish sauce, bean sprouts, holy basil, are also good. I’m sure they have Phở, but it’s very rare that I crave Phở. There are the standard Chinese options as well, but when in Rome… Aside from the usual suspects, I’ve had the Durian smoothie which really lets you experience Durian @ a elementary school level. It’s not the full on hardcore experience, but if you’re curious about the King of Fruits, it’s a good way to try it. And everything you’ve read about durian is true. It’s interesting, but I left about ¼ of the smoothie in the cup. *crosses durian off bucket list* And speaking of adventurous smoothies, you can’t miss the Avocado. One of my Asian homies said to me once, «When I moved to the states, I was shocked to see people using avocado in SAVORY dishes. Avocado is for dessert» Thrown in a smooth, with some ice, and what I imagine is a little bit of condensed milk, the avocado smoothie is one of the best smoothies you’ll ever have. It’s called the butter fruit for a reason. Best in the city? Naw. Best in the area? I can’t call it. Good reliable local option? Most definitely. We’re truly blessed in our area to have so many good options. Believe me, finding good Vietnamese anything in NYC was either trekking out to Sunset Park or down to Little Italy to grab a sammie @ the back of jewelry store. The«adventure”/trouble didn’t make the food taste any better.

This is indeed the Hoang My next to Hong Kong 2 Market! But anyways, this review is only for the Banh Xeo(called«Vietnamese pizza» in the appetizer section), which is like a Vietnamese savory crêpe. Although I may sound like an expert, I just Wiki-ed it, so I don’t know what these are *supposed* to taste like! :P They stuff the crêpe with lots of cooked bean sprouts. Otherwise, the light flavor comes from the shrimp and the pork pieces inside the skin. Easily a light meal for ~$ 6. I suggest eating this at the restaurant instead of getting it to-go, as the liquid from the bean sprouts and steam/heat makes it kind of mushy! Unless you like mush… then that’s cool too XD Lots of people and families eat at the store, and the customers are pretty diverse! :)
