I work walking distance to Erawan so me and some of my co-workers will walk here a couple times a month… I never really thought I would like Thai food, but I love it here! Service gets 3 stars… pretty slow, sometimes the order has been wrong, and it usually takes awhile to get to-go boxes and your check. BUT, Food gets 4 or 5 stars. I always get the Spring Rolls and the Special Fried Rice(basically just rice and grilled chicken) but it is SO good. The rice dish comes in a huge portion… I always have leftovers. And the spring rolls are crispy and full of flavor, and they come with a yummy dipping sauce. The pricing is reasonable… $ 3.95 for the spring rolls, and $ 8.00 for a huge plate of special fried rice. Your meal also comes with soup and a different type of spring roll(personally I am not a fan of either, but the ladies I eat with love them both) They have items on the menu for vegetarians… tofu and some other dishes, and from what I hear they are all great options. Overall this is a great Thai restaurant and I will definitely continue to come back(just dont come here if you are in a hurry!)

I’ve had cartilage that was more tender than the beef in the red curry I had here. And the spring roll tasted like Hammermill paper. The soup? Well, let’s just say they boiled some carrots to come up with the broth. Nothing in terms of taste detectable there. Not to mention the chef can’t read orders, as I clearly ordered brown rice instead of white rice, which the waitress took note of and repeated back to me. They brought me over-steamed white rice that was not texturally impressive at all. The vegetables in the dish were stringy and undercooked. But the red curry sauce did have just tight amount of spice to it. Then late into my meal, the ambiance struck me — they were trying to feel like an upscale establishment — classic music in the background and all — but the place is acoustically equal to a parking garage. Loud. I would have given them one star, but the service here is so friendly(but painfully slow) — I felt too sorry for them to do that.

I will be the first person to admit that I am fairly picky when it comes to Thai food. For me, it has to be spicy, full of flavor, and not drowning in coconut milk. Erawan, in my book, is one of those places that delivers consistently good tasting Thai food and is reasonably priced. At lunch, for around 8 dollars, you get soup, a spring roll and a full entrée. I wouldn’t be a good reviewer if I didn’t mention the Kee Mow(misspelled I am sure)…it’s basically spicy fried rice with incredible flavor. So what gets them kicked down a couple stars? The service. It’s never rude, but often times you feel like you have gone hours without getting a waiter to fill your tea. It’s not always bad, but I would say about 50% of the time the service is at least slow. Not a place to go for a quick lunch, but you will have a great lunch for sure.
