DJ’s Old Timey Hamburgers

Out of business, replaced by Burger Home.

Exactly everything i hoped it would be and more! The DJ Burger with seasoned fries and an icy cold Dr Pepper. I’m in heaven.

The burgers here are solid, and the shakes are fantastic, but what really sets it apart is the friendly service. I haven’t eaten breakfast here yet, but I intend to rectify that soon…
I’ve been here a few times now — I’m steadily working my way through as many Houston burger joints as I can — and every time, the burger has been good. Hand-​formed, thin patties griddled well with a nice char, and then loaded with fresh veggies. They manage to maintain a nice coating of grease and together with the veggies, usually get a fair ooze factor, though on one occasion my burger was a bit dry.
The shake is hand-​blended from Blue Bell ice cream and therefore delicious. Fries and onion rings are decent, but nothing to write home about. I would recommend getting the seasoned fries if you’re having trouble deciding, though.
The service is friendly, and generally very good even in the lunch crush. I ordered a large shake, and instead received a small, but they promptly refunded me the difference when I mentioned it. And then the next time I was in, the lady working the counter actually remembered what had happened! That’s attention to detail, and to the customer.
Not a ton of seating on the interior — just four or five small tables, and one long counter with stools. They do have some picnic tables outside. This place is only open M-​F for breakfast and lunch, but it’s worth taking a long lunch to make it over here and enjoy a fine burger with a chocolate shake…

I’ve lived down the street from this joint for 4 years and today was the first time I ate here… why? because it’s only open for breakfast/​lunch… and by the time I get home it’s usually closed. However, today I was in the area during lunch so I finally decided to take the plunge (after unsuccessfully finding a parking spot at smashburger across the street).
It’s a very old-​school burger/​diner stand with burgers and shakes. The clientele appears to be very loyal and generally a lunch crowd from the area.
I had a ¼ lb cheeseburger and onion ring combo and I was pleasantly surprised at how satisfying it was… nothing too spectacular or novel… just a good old fashioned burger and rings. I’ve attached pictures to whet your appetite. Overall, I’d say that it is a great alternative to the usual fast food burgers as it is a local shop that’s been around since 1994. I’m a fan.

Nice burgers, the milkshakes are better. I won’t lie to you, they are a little greasy and sit a little heavy, but some might say that is the hallmark of a great burger.
