I had dinner here last week with my boyfriend and a friend. The three of us shared a Salmon Sashimi dinner and a Midori Supreme — which is a boat meant for 2 with 12 pieces of sushi, 15 slices of sashimi, spicy tuna roll and spicy salmon roll. Each came with a bowl of miso soup and salad with a slightly gingery dressing. Both were pretty standard but the mixed greens were clearly fresh. I loved that the midori supreme included mackerel sashimi because I don’t eat it frequently and it was a nice little treat. We also got some extra bowls of sushi rice and that was a little tacky/sticky the way I like. The price was very reasonable since all the fish seemed fresh and the sashimi pieces were more than generously sliced. There is parking on the side but the lot is small, so make sure you don’t come with a large party at peak hours if everyone is driving.

Whenever I want to treat myself with sushi, Midori has been my go-to. The sushi is very fresh and tasty! My absolute favorite is the Spicy Tuna sushi roll. I’ve had various other rolls, such as the Rainbow Dragon, Spicy Salmon, Yellowfish & Scallion, and I can vouch that they are all just as tasty. Like your usual sushi dish, you will have pickled ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce. For about 4 – 7 dollars, you can pick a few of the regular sushi rolls, and for a little more you can get the specialty rolls(i.e rainbow dragon). The lunch specials are pretty good — $ 8.50 for 2 rolls, $ 11.50 for 3 rolls. The lunch specials will come with miso soup, and some of the other lunch specials come with miso soup and a salad. The staff is very kind. They are professional, prompt, and greet with a ready smile. The place is very well maintained. I also learned that they don’t charge you for tea either!

SUSHi SHOULDNOTHAVEBONESINIT. EVER. This is by far the worst sushi restaurant, if not the worst restaurant period, I’ve ever been to. I ordered yellowtail handrolls and instead of full pieces of yellowtail inside they had mushy, chopped-up pieces of fish that may or may not have been yellowtail. When I bit into one I felt something hard in the fish and pulled out a DOUBLEBONE – the largest bone I’ve ever seen in a piece of fish period(it looked like a pointed wishbone). I’ve been eating sushi frequently and in countless restaurants for 30 years and NEVER had anything like this. They’re not serving sushi-grade fish(or just didn’t serve it to me) and they should not be trying to pass this off as sushi. I also ordered a bowl of hibachi fried rice and received a large plate of greasy rice with broccoli and carrotts in it(it was more like bad Chinese fried rice)…and a fork. When I handed my plate with the«sushi» and the bone to the server she had the nerve to ask if I wanted another roll(which I of course refused, feeling fortunate I hadn’t swallowed a double bone and choked on it). She then came back and said they wouldn’t charge me for the ONE roll, as if they were doing me a favor. A manager SHOULDHAVE come over, apologized, and offered to take my full meal off the check as a simple gesture of courtesy, but I was ignored, so I left disgusted, annoyed, and still very hungry. From my first impression, dining here is a health risk and I have never been treated so poorly as a customer as I was here.

In town for a training class and was hoping for some good sushi. After reading a couple of reviews, I settled on Midori, and I was definitely not disappointed. Ordered the salmon sashimi dinner and it was very good. Salmon was very fresh, smooth to an almost creamy texture. The salad and miso soup were on point as well. Definitely recommend.

Great sushi, fast service, what more could you ask for? They have some great sushi deals and the food is fantastic. Try the tuna ravioli, it will blow your mind. Just remember midori is byob!

I usually dine in here but tonight I decided to order in and I really do regret that after an hour and ½ for waiting for my order which was very simple(shrimp tempura roll and a california roll with fried ice cream). By the time the driver got here the fried ice cream was more like a cup ice cream. Despite that this place is good. I’ll just have to continue dining in.

BYOB! Wish I had known… We ordered the pheonix roll, m24, spicy crab, red dragon, imperial dragon and volcano roll! All of them were delicious!!! Price wise they’re comparable to most nice sushi places!

Came here for New Year’s Eve dinner with a friend. What stuck out to me are the«Chef Signature Cold Fusion dishes» — a lot of creative items under this. We had a hard time choosing as there were many interesting sounding dishes(like tuna ravioli made with a cucumber wrapper, or several tartar executions). We decided on a Mango Tuna Tartar to split and it was very good. Actually so good we forgot about the entrees in front of us.(Thanks, Unilocalers!) It was chopped avocado, mango, and raw tuna tossed in a light creamy dressing, pressed into a stack a top cucumber noodles, topped with a raw quail egg. The flavors melded and were balanced, and the textures were pleasing. Not too much or too little dressing. I wasn’t sure how the raw egg would be, but it complimented the dish. My friend got the Katsudon over rice entrée, and I got a special roll(also under the signature), the Crispy Spicy Tuna roll. This was basically a fried rice roll topped with mounds of raw fatty tuna. We enjoyed everything. Our total bill was a little over $ 40 for 3 dishes, which wasn’t bad considering the quality, and. In its class, I give this place 5 stars. I can’t say enough how much I appreciate the creativity for a otherwise generic japanese restaurent. We would probably come back when in the area to venture into the other unique menu items. *Also, something I wish I knew earlier – they have their own parking lot.

Midori is my favorite hidden gems of Sushi around this area. It’s reasonably priced with fresh selections that are well prepared. I frequent this location for lunch specials(served Monday through Saturday). My fiancé come here for Saturday morning«brunch» lunch specials regularly. Also it’s BYOB so you really can’t beat that. The place is quite small so I wouldn’t suggest parties larger than 6 but they have a larger location in Piscataway which can hold much larger groups without a problem. We just happen to live closer to Highland Park so we come to this one. They also have an online ordering system for delivery and pick up. Delivery can be a bit slow but if you don’t have time to leave and pick it up it takes about an hour so when you order just anticipate a little bit of wait time. I do this when I am at work and can’t leave my desk on a busy day. Parking around back is a hidden secret too. But I prefer street parking if I can find it since its easier to pull out back onto the street. Either way I come here about once a week to get my Sushi fix. It’s the best and most affordable. Highly recommend! P. S. if you haven’t tried this place yet they do offer groupon and or livingsocial coupons that you can use at dinner(not able to use at lunch but the price is already pretty cheap as it is for lunch!). Enjoy!

Great sushi for the location and great prices. It’s a bit small but never feels crowded and the service is fast. Many vegetarian options too. I recommend the peanut avocado roll.

This place was great! Clean, with nice waiters. We got our order rather quickly, but everything still tasted fresh. What we got: Philadelphia roll, passion roll, crazy roll, and volcano roll. The Philly roll was pretty standard, but it had the right amount of cream cheese, which is something you don’t see everyday. I loved the passion roll, the jalapeño wasn’t too over powering, and it had a great balance. Plus white tuna? Yes! I usually don’t like shrimp tempura, which was in the crazy roll, but my date wanted it. I actually liked it a lot, which surprised me. The size of the pieces weren’t too large either, which tends to happen with tempura based sushis, which was nice because my date didn’t have to see me unhinge my jaw to eat. The volcano roll was really good! I like spicy sushi, and there are too many places that claim to have spicy rolls but don’t deliver. This one was my favorite. All and all, it was a great experience. We finished in about five minutes which was surprising, but warranted. Total came out to $ 23, which is around the price of AYCE, and since this filled me up as much, I consider it reasonably priced. The size of the rolls were good, they weren’t too loose either. We didn’t get a chance to try out the BYOB aspect of it(we drove) but I’m excited to give that a try!

After going here many times because the food is very good, I will now never return because of how horrifically rude the owner(or manager I’m not sure) is. Earlier today I called asking if they deliver to Hopewell, and without hesitation the answer was yes so I told them I would call back later with an order. So about an hour later I called for delivery, when to my surprise I was told they don’t deliver to my address! I mentioned that he told me he delivered to Hopewell and his reply«Not EVERYWHERE in Hopewell, we don’t go over 8 miles away.» First, I live 8.7 miles away. Second, wouldn’t you have thought he would have mentioned that on the phone? I told him I was pretty disappointed because I was without a car and could not come pick up the food and if there was anything he could do-he said«Sorry can’t help you.» and hung up. I then thought well, .7 miles is barely any distance I can ride my bike that far and meet the delivery guy so he doesn’t have to drive the«long» extra distance. I was laughed at when I called, and told«We just don’t do that, either you give me an address or we don’t help you. GOODBYE!» and hung up again. I am not one to complain EVER about restaurants. I am a waitress and have been in the Princeton and Philly area for more than a decade, and my husband delivers pizza. It takes a lot for me to write a negative review, but this attitute was really uncalled for. Learn how to be more polite and give correct information next time.

I’ve been going to Midori for the past 7 years. I have loved this place for the past 7 years. The sushi is great — but the owners do not know how to run a business or keep their customers happy. About a year ago, my husband and I came in and ordered, among other items, a volcano roll. The first few bites were delicious. Until my husband bit down hard(like one does with sushi as it is soft) and chipped his molar on a piece of PORCELAIN. Yes, part of a plate. Maybe a broken dish. We called the owner/server over to let him know, not because we wanted a discount, but out of concern that maybe something broke in the kitchen and could cause other people harm. Instead of apologizing or even seeming concerned he said«I’ll take 10% off your bill». Really? 10% !! What an insult. I don’t want a discount i want my husbands TOOTHBACK. Ok, well the sushi is good so we kept going back. Over the past year we’ve noticed Midori has grown in popularity. Every night of the week it is packed. I guess you could expect the prices to eventually rise, but you would also expect that to be communicated on the menu. As someone who is allergic to seaweed, it is nice that they offer soy paper! I have been getting the soy paper for 7 years and have always accepted the $ 1 extra per roll charged. Fair enough! Until tonight, when i was charged $ 9 extra on 3 rolls for soy paper. Im over wasting extra money and molars for good sushi.

Probably the best sushi in the area. It was all very solid except the sweet potato roll. DONOT get that it is awful. BUT the rest of the rolls I had were good. I had the orange roll which has crunchy spicy tuna, avocado and some sauce on top and it was delicious. The avocado roll is also good and the California as well. Very solid sushi and beats all the competitors in the surrounding towns. Price wise it’s normal, not cheap but not expensive and it is very affordable whine it’s on groupon(we used it). Miso soup isnt too shabby either.

As a Rutgers student, I’ve had an extremely difficult time finding sushi that I actually liked around the area. I’m so happy to have discovered Midori Sushi because it’s the first time that I’ve found sushi around here that I actually enjoy! My boyfriend and I tried an Orange Roll for the first time. We’re now INLOVE. We even place an extra order in for another Orange Roll after our first round of sushi. I’m not even a huge fan of spicy food, but that didn’t stop me from loving the Orange Roll. I also really loved the avocado roll that I ordered. The only roll that fell short for me was the sweet potato roll. It was very bland compared to other sweet potato rolls that I’ve had with a sweet sauce on top. I really love that you’re able to BYOB at Midori Sushi and there are liquor stores very close to the location. They also have a parking lot, which saves you from the crazy Highland Park street parking. I do wish that Midori Sushi was a slightly cheaper. The prices are slightly higher than I’m used paying for sushi. Regardless, paying the little extra for Midori Sushi is worth it because it’s the best in the area. I’m excited to go to Midori Sushi the next time I’m craving some sushi!

Your classic sushi restaurant. We had the $ 16.99 dinner special, which consists of miso soup or salad, one classic roll(I had the white fish tempura roll which was excellent!) and one special roll. The miso soup was only $ 1.50, so I chose the salad and asked for a miso soup as well. Everything came out quickly and was excellent! Even with the special it was a bit pricey, but this is typical for any sushi place in New Jersey. It looks like they have some more affordable options for lunch, so I will definitely be back!

I’ve decided to upgrade my review for Midori to 4 stars. I’m picky about my Japanese food, but really there’s not much that beats Midori in the area. That deserves the extra star. And if you want something special, ask them for the chefs special. They will make you something with their spectacular yuzu wasabi sauce that is great with everything. Plus, the owner is too kind not to give another star. ;)
