I love Chinese food and crave for the spicy dishes. I ordered 2 dishes, very different from each other on paper but when it arrived, first I couldn’t distinguish which is what and then when I started eating, it tasted the same… so disappointed. Might order again because its closer to my house but not a big fan because the taste didn’t amuse me. I can bet my life this is completely Americanized version and not proper authentic Chinese cuisine

I’m convinced they have the best xiao long bao in central jersey. So are my parents.

i’m a west coast ABC, so the chinese-american food i like is a little different from east coast offerings. i love dim sum, black bean chicken, and chow mein, and consider those staples back home, but can never find them exactly how i like them around NJ. so instead of ordering my standard dishes at chinese spots out here, i go for the regional specials or house recommendations. hong fu did not disappoint. their shredded beef with hot peppers – i get mine extra extra hot, loaded with dried red chilis – is excellent. greasy, salty, spicy, when served with a hot scoop of rice it’s the perfect comfort food. i usually do take-out, but have never had a problem with service. the people who work there are sweet, and the restaurant will feel familiar to folks who grew up eating chinese – red and gold calendars, fish tanks, chinese dramas on the tv. definitely try it!

When we came in March, it was fantastic. Delicious, fresh buns and soup dumplings. Today, we came back to see different people working – owner change? Regardless, we ordered buns and soup dumplings like usual. Soup dumplings were delicious like usual. The pork in the buns was raw like usual. Wait… what? We had RAW pork in our freshly made buns. Pink and all. We told the server who then told us they would make two new orders. When she brought out the new buns, she commented«The pork wasn’t raw, it just looked like it.» This prompted us to show her again the raw, pink of the meat. Server goes«It’s not raw!» and walks away. Excuse me, miss. But, I think I can tell the difference between raw and cooked meat. Could you have just brought out the new buns and apologized rather than rudely blaming us for your kitchen’s undercooked meat? We will NEVER be returning here again. We promptly packed up our things & left. Good luck with what used to be a fantastically-run, delicious restaurant that you are driving straight into the ground. EDIT: Just got home and opened up the two, new orders we had packed up when we left. STILL raw. Unbelievable. One star due to unsafe food conditions – someone could get really sick with this!

I picked up some Hong Fu as takeout and I’m glad to say, still a fan of the Hong Fu Chinese Cuisine, glad to see that the soup dumplings upped from 6 to 8. Was very stuffed and thoroughly enjoyed my meal yet again.

Epic. That’s all I could say. I brought my nonasian friends for a taste of the asian culture and it went beyond my expectations. The portions were generous, the xiao long bao were savory and delicious, and we couldn’t stop smiling afterwards. The beef noodle soup was also very good, though it is a bit on the greasy side. I enjoyed the soy milk and you tiao, the beef noodle soup, turnip shortcake, and of course, the xiao long bao. I think the scallion pancake and beef wraps could have used more beef and barbecue sauce, but overall, a great experience. If you can’t speak asian, just point and you’ll do fine.

First time going here and I got take-out. Staff was friendly, service was pretty quick and there is parking available behind the store. I got beef lo mein and an egg roll and while it was pretty good, it was also extremely salty and greasy for my taste so that’s something to consider(assuming it’s typical of their food as I haven’t tried anything else there yet).

One of my favorite dish is stir-fried beef fillet with Mexico pepper, the flavor is rich, and beef pretty juicy, only thing is the pepper is really spicy.

To put in gently, Hong Fu is not the most welcoming restaurant for non-Chinese diners. They’ve yet to realize that they could expand their customer base(and probably increase their customer satisfaction) by several hundred percent if they only provided a unified menu with English translations of all their specials instead of having separate Chinese and English menus. But, for those hard-core Unilocalers in search of some of the best Chinese(particularly Shanghai-inspired) food in NJ, don’t be deterred. Just bring a Chinese friend and avoid ordering from the American Chinese menu — the chef in the back hates cooking those items«just to pay the bills.» He’d much rather cook the authentic stuff … if only he could get you to order them. Why this place gets at least four stars: –The braised pork leg is amazing! So tender, flavorful, and juicy and just the right amount of star anise –The regulars here overrate the xiaolongbao here, but they’re still pretty good; on par with Shanghai Park in Princeton(didn’t they used to have the same owner/chef?) and just a step below Grand Shangahi in Edison –Yes, the price of the snow pea shoots(dou miao) is steep, but it’s worth it; whenever the waiters have some off-time, you’ll see them in the back picking through bags of it, keeping only the smallest, most tender leaves and tossing the hard stems. –I’m also a big fan of their red-cooked sea bass; again, the portions are on the smaller side, but they really do a great job of mixing the flavors and cooking the fish until it’s just right. Why this place gets no more than four stars: –Waiters, please stop pushing the lion’s head meatball(it’s like a giant Italian meatball, but made with pork). It’s good but not great — use a bit less starch and a bit more fat.

I would give a 2.5 stars for this place. It is Meh-I’ve experienced better but it was A-Ok. I thought it was a bit pricey for ordering two dishes and a spring roll at $ 25. I think other places could be under $ 20 but oh well. We ordered two vegetarian dishes(which I thought would be a little cheaper, wrong) — broccoli and garlic sauce & a tofu/broccoli dish. Both were spicy. I am not a fan of spice. I saw that there was a star that said it could be made spicy, I didn’t know it automatically came spicy. Both dishes were fine and they had a lot of taste, but I couldn’t bare to eat more because my mouth was too hot. Nothing tremendously wrong with it but I don’t think I will order from here again. I would like to try other places before I come back to this one.

Not flavorful at all and was a third-grade type chinese spot. We ordered doughy dumplings, unflavored soup, an bland veggie in shezchuan sauce. We also hated the shrimp and veggies with peanuts. I also had singapore noodles and it really was bland as well. We just kept adding hot sauce and soy sauce to everything to make it okay! I don’t get it or the high ratings but I guess you need to be chinese to specify how flavorful you want it since most folks in there loved the place and were chinese— so I will be asking my table neighbors IF for some reason I end up back here.

Okay, found some other awesome dishes… 1) It’s called something like eggplant casserole with salty fish and diced chicken. Seriously, it sounds like a really weird combo, but it’s so good. Note that if you have a real low salt intake level, this is not your cup of tea. Otherwise, definitely give it a shot. 2) Their Shanghainese Pork/Crabmeat dumplings are authentic… the best ones I can find around Central Jersey… let me know if you think otherwise and I’m more than willing to try your recommendation! 3) The Snow Pea Shoots are awesome… definitely live up to the price they charge. The leaves are very fresh; definitely the way they are supposed to be and not something that would make you feel like you’re chewing grass. Highly recommend it as your veggie choice of the night =) Now, go enjoy and btw, Happy Year of Dragon!

I have been looking for good Chinese food in the New Brunswick area as a NYC Chinatown native and thought I’d give this place a try after all the good reviews. First thing I noticed when I entered, all Chinese families eating there, a good sign the food is authentic(no offense). Ordered the: Scallion pancakes-not oily/greasy, very crispy, large portion! Juicy pork soup dumplings-coming back whenever I have a craving Sizzling Beef and Scallops(on those hot plate things): beef was very tender and succulent, the sauce was yummy. The service could be better but I’m definitely coming back to check out the rest of the menu… oh and more soup dumplings please!

I’m struggling a little bit with my rating system, as I live in a tiny tiny town that I enjoy thus far… but it isn’t really a dining destination, ya know? How would this place rank amongst the worth-seeking out places in San Francisco, or even Honolulu? I’m not sure, exactly. But for what it is, and where it is, this place easily deserves four stars. Hello food! Ordered some incredibly yummy delivery(though not linked here, there is a menu available online at ) even though we could have easily walked to get take-out/eaten in. But we didn’t. Because they deliver. I was incredibly impressed with all the items we ordered. Scallion pancakes were, as promised, thick and almost fluffy and supremely tasty. Shredded beef with pepper and house sauce was perfectly spicy, it got quite a tingle going in the mouth without actually making you wonder where the butter was to put out the fire. The general’s chicken was not greasy, nicely fried, with a tangy sauce(only three pieces of broccoli though, which was sad). The meats were good quality, and all of it heated up well for leftovers the next day. Even though I am going to try ALL of the delivery options in the Highland Park/New Brunswick Area this seems to be an early front runner.

Came here last Saturday for A’s family dinner. I thought it was going to be an awkward dinner with people talking in a foreign language i did not understand… but i was wrong because we bonded over the universal language of good food. A couple of things that I learned… this is a shanghai-style chinese restaurant. Shanghainese food and Taiwanese food are worlds apart as is Cantonese food(but i think i knew the bit about the Cantonese food) supposedly. When adults ask you to pick a dish, DONOTFALLFORTHIS. It is better to just let them order for you lest you be ridiculed and laughed at for making such a poor choice. A quick breakdown of the dishes: 1. Seafood soup(yummy) 2. Juicy pork soup dumplings(solid) 3. Spicy Beef Tendons(very spicy, but i love spicy food… excellent) 4. Some cucumber dish(refreshing especially after the spicy tendon) 5. Some beef with peppers(had a yummy charred taste with crisp peppers) 6. Snow pea shoots(standard) 7. Lion’s head(Huge meatball, 4 pcs in gravy, tasty) 8. Eel in brown sauce(this was good but i could have done without) A group of 6 people, with minimal leftovers… we did an ungodly good job at packing down all that food… wow i’m actually really surprised now that i’m going through everything we ordered again. lol

Juicy pork buns were indeed juicy and porky and also delicious. They’re worth a visit on their own. I had the special beef soup which while good and beefy, wasn’t as good as Phở. The beef came in big, fatty, flavorful chunks. Overall tasty, but not something I would order it again. I will definitely be back to try some of their other dishes. Staff was very friendly, and despite the language barrier they offered a few suggestions upon request. I saw lots of Asians there; that’s usually a good sign for quality at Asian restaurants.

I had the soymilk with zhao bing yo tiao(ok idk what it is called in english— it’s that really long fried thing you eat with soymilk). It wasn’t the best I“ve ever had but it was good. I also had the scallion pancakes which are BOMB. Really. They are BOMB. Also I’m a vegetarian but other people with me said their xiaolongbao were very good. I had the vegetable buns and they were good too. I am using the word«good» a lot… nothing was amazing but it was all good. Well… except for the scallion pancakes… like I said, they were BOMB. Just crispy enough, just fluffy enough, with just the right soy sauce. If I lived around there I would get scallion pancake take-out like every day. Put these babies in a food truck in Manhattan and they will sell like hotcakes… or like scallion pancakes rather. It takes skill to make such bomb scallion pancakes. If they have this skill, I assume all their food has the potential to be as bomb as these pancakes. Ingredients in the food all seem fresh and good— although I wouldn’t get those flavored milk tea drinks because I can see all those powdered flavor kegs in the front of the waiting area behind the counter and they don’t look very healthy/fresh. Also, the waiters were all courteous and polite… although they seemed aloof at times— the waitress in particular— both women in my party were trying to wave their hands desperately to get service and the waitress was very oblivious. Anyway, I don’t want to end on this note. I want to end on SCALLIONPANCAKES.
