I can’t tell if it’s because I got take-out or if it’s just the quality of the sushi, but the rice was super mushy and the sushi just wasn’t that great taste-wise and the rolls were falling apart. It could have been possible that the tempura rolls just steamed up the container and made the rice like that. I got the chicken tempura, shrimp tempura, sweet potato, spicy tuna, and spicy yellowtail rolls. I’ll have to try this place again to write a more fair review, but what I can say for now is that takeout just doesn’t seem like a good idea with any sort of tempura rolls. In addition, I asked for extra wasabi and soy sauce, because of other reviews written on Unilocal, and I still don’t feel like it was enough. My final tip is that if you plan on paying by credit card be prepared to pay an extra dollar no matter what your bill comes to(there’s no minimum). The seaweed salad, however, was really good and they gave a big portion of that. So that was well worth the visit.

Had a good time! The seller gentleman made the sushi for us by himself and we had a comfortable talk during meal. Michael is a very kind person. Will go next time.

Solid go-to sushi place for anyone in the New Brunswick/Edison. As an avid sushi eater I’ve been to all the staple cheap sushi restaurants in central Jersey, and this is probably the best. Take note, it’s hard to find. Look for Daniel’s Pizza near the St. Peter’s Children’s Hospital. For some reason Sakura doesn’t have a sign, but it shares the same place as Daniel’s. Walk in and you’ll see 2 counters – one for each restaurant. There’s a counter to eat at and 2 small tables. Definitely meant for a quick stop-by eat, but I kind of like how casual it is. Clean and neat enough. I went with a friend and we split 5 rolls between us: awesome roll, sweet potato, new zealand, shrimp tempura, salmon tempura. All for only $ 21 because rolls are always half-off. That’s a crazy value! (Note: The menu is expansive with lots and lots of different rolls + classic japanese foods, like udon and tempura and teriyaki. Only the rolls are half-off but other food is pretty cheap anyway.) There were 2 men working, and they had all of our rolls ready within 10 minutes. They were very hygienic when handling the food. The rolls were all very good! Okay, it’s not going to beat your fancy $ 20-per-roll sushi restaurant, but it’s way better than I expected for $ 3 – 7 rolls. Ingredients were fresh and although the rolls look small at first they’re actually not. My favorite was the salmon tempura… salmon was so tender and it was hot from being cooked(I know hot sushi is weird but I loved it). The shrimp tempura was also good, and every other roll we had. I can’t wait to come back. This is definitely my new go-to place in central Jersey for a quick, reliable sushi fix.

I just couldn’t look past that I ordered takeout and they gave my boyfriend & I like a tablespoon of soy sauce in a container for our sushi… I’m sorry, but there’s NO way I’m eating a piece of sushi without soy sauce. If it wasn’t for the fact that one of my college housemates was able to lend me soy sauce, our meal would have been completely ruined. That said, I LOVE that Sakura always has a half of sushi special. Although the sushi isn’t the best, it’s really great for the price. All the ingredients are very fresh. Sakura shares its space with Daniel’s Pizza so there’s barely any room to eat inside. This is definitely a place I’d recommend for take out. If you’re not feeling a fatty pizza pie, this is the perfect alternative if you’re on Easton Ave.

The sushi rice is a little too sticky and the wait time is foooooorever. My friend and I were sitting for an hour and 20 minutes before we got the food and it wasn’t even busy. Picking it up is much more efficient because they care about those orders more.

Affordable, decent-quality sushi? Count me in! I’m all seriousness, Sakura has pretty good sushi sold at cheap prices. It also gets very busy so be prepared to wait for your order due to the enormous amount of college students in need of a cheap meal.

First time here and had the recommended Awesome roll. Had good flavor(not the best i ever had though), was a good size, and somewhat friendly counter service. Sushi was made and rolled fresh in front of you. The ½ price deal is a bit of a joke since the«full price» is insane. make you think like you getting a deal. Also keep in mind if you plan on paying with Credit or Debit card the have no minimum but will add $ 1.00 to you order. I will probably give them a try again down the road as a quick and easy lunch stop for Sushi

Nothing like cheap sushi on a college campus. And this certainly delivers. Finding it is a little confusing, since there’s no sign and it shares a space with a pizza place. Weird, but you just kind of go with it, because let’s be real, the reason you’re here is half-price sushi. As you might imagine, half-price sushi is not the highest quality. But it gets the job done, and no stomach complaints afterwards! I highly recommend the tempura shrimp roll — very impressive for the price. The seaweed is a little bit chewy(not sure how that happens), so that might be a little off-putting, but again — half-price sushi means you just kind of roll with it. The guys behind the counter are super friendly, but the ambiance is definitely not the reason to come. Just a couple of metal tables and a metal counter — very industrial and not the kind of place you really want to stay for too long. It’s much too small to bring a big group, so take advantage of their delivery if you’re planning for more than a couple people. I would definitely come back here again and get a bigger variety to take advantage of the price.

This is the #1 thing I think I miss about college. Cheap sushi and it’s actually pretty quality! Definitely better in their new location than they were at their old location in Skinny Vinnie’s. They started recognizing my number as I would call every Friday when I was at school. Definitely recommend!

This little sushi joint is a hidden gem. There is no outside sign and it is very easy to miss. It’s connected to a take-out pizza joint and there is only a small sushi bar area with a metal counter. The atmosphere could use a touch up, but the sushi tastes great and best of all the sushi is 50% off! The owner is friendly and prepared my order quickly. If I ever come back to the New Brunswick area I will definitely come back for more.

It’s cheap and all but there’s better sushi in New Brunswick. I say this cause things taste a little off and the last time I was here I threw up just shortly after walking home. I don’t want to take the chases of trying it again.

My favorite sushi place when I’m at college. The prices are stupid great, love the sushi and love that they deliver! Sometimes depending on the campus you’re on the delivery can take a while but I can’t complain.

It’s a nice little place that is kind of hard to find(attached to a pizzeria). Several chairs to sit down. It’s nice and clean in here, and the staff was want afraid to say hi and ask me what I’d like. I got 3 rolls for just about $ 10 bucks. As a college student at this price point its definitely worth the trip. If you’re starving. For the price, it’s 4⁄5 stars, but if you use traditional sushi preparation there was some things off. Hence the 3 stars.

Ordered sushj here the night my first kid was born :). Was cheap and delicious :). Ordered a larger order, basically for catering when family came over, everyone enjoyed and was a cheap dish. This place might beat out edo on takeout pricing, although edo may have more of a selection for now(5÷23÷15). Kudos Sakura you’ve made me happy.

WOW! I’m never disappointed when I come here with a sushi craving. Compared to other sushi locations around college ave, Sakura definitely gives you the best bang for your buck in terms of quantity, quality and price. Some of my favorites are the salmon avocado roll, the sweet potato roll, dragon roll and any kind of tempura! If you’re in the mood for Chinese food that’s not saturated with msg but still taste like it’s from your moms kitchen, their noodles and rice dishes are also good.

I give Sakura 4 stars for the price and amount rather than quality. This place is good for the cheap price and quick sushi fix, as someone else said. As an avid sushi lover, I’m not a fan of their quality but for the super cheap price and big pieces, I can’t really complain. I like the eel avocado, salmon tempura, and crunchy tuna rolls. The crunchy salmon rolls are the least fresh, in my opinion, so I opt for the crunchy tuna roll. Make sure you order extra ginger and wasabi if you like using a good amount because they give very little. The staff is super friendly and the owner(it seems like) is always very polite as well. This place is super small and easy to miss, so pay attention if you’re trying to find this place! P. S. I am NOT fond of the pizzeria attached to Sakura. It’s super expensive for a slice and tastes really cheap.

I was surprised by the quality considering the cheap price! They’re really nice people and it’s definitely a place I’ll go to again. The awesome roll is great if you like spicy salmon and tuna :)

At this price point?! Its the starving/drunk college student dream. Get typical sushi at half the price of what it usually is at any other joint. There’s a pizza place in here too, also descent. Clean area and friendly staff… I really don’t know how one could complain.

This is the same place that used to be on Sicard Street behind the College Avenue Gym. THEY’REBACK! Just in a different location a couple of blocks away – within walking distance of St. Peter’s Hospital – inside Daniel Pizzaria. The have the same phone number and website as before but the menu has been changed slightly. They still have all the great sushi rolls(a couple of new ones too!) and delicious teriyaki selections but no more lo mein and fried rice. The typical«American Chinese fast-food» items are gone and in their place is a wonderful selection of udon noodle soups. Like before, the prices are ridiculously inexpensive for the quality you get. Parking is a problem but they still deliver. Go and enjoy ASAP!
