the wait can be unbearable on a saturday for dinner… especially as hunger pains are screaming with every passing half hours. i wish they took reservations or would expand to a larger location BUT there is something to be said for that homey dining feeling that makes it all worth it.(there’s a bar down the road so you can have one friend wait on line for a table and the rest of you go drink, and rotate 30min in) i LOVE the chili lamb and fried cauliflower. the naan is crispy and delicious. i honestly suggest take out if you don’t mind passing a sit down dinner because the dining area is very small, and they don’t rush tables so the turnover is slow(all positive when you’re the diner at the table, but painful for those waiting haha). worth a try, but there is a lot of other good indian food all over hicksville aka little India.

NOHEAT! Every person sitting in that restaurant is wearing a coat and hat! This shows a serious lack of empathy from management. My feet froze waiting 30min for a table and stayed frozen throughout dinner. Service is poor… Had to ask a waiter 3 times about a forgotten disk and 4 times for extra naan. I love going to whole-in-the-wall restaurants But… It is 9 degrees outside… I shouldn’t have to sit in place to eat that is equally as cold! It has been a mild winter until the past few days… They can turn on the heat when the temperature drops. I don’t care how good the food is… Eating with your teeth chattering is completely unacceptable!

Amazing, plentiful food. Naan is crispy, rice is well done. Had mild butter chicken, boyfriend had tikka masala. He ordered it spicy, 9 out of 10. It did not disappoint him. So much chicken in the curry! Very small, intimate place. Go in early. Nooo parking anywhere.

Went for the bargain basement priced lunch buffet, and literally it was freezing in the place. It had to be in the 50’s or below there, did the heat not work? No comment from the waiters when asked, and no offer of hot tea, disappointing. In addition, the lunch spread was barely ok. Tasteless iceberg lettuce with a watery flavorless yogurt dressing to splash on. 2 under seasoned soups of corn chowder and hot & sour. Choice of basmati rice or Asian noodles were good, as were the fried veggie fritters. Misses were the tandoori chicken, and the 2 veggie dishes that I could not name or remember. Also a miss was the fried cheese, and the naan while warm was just ok. The winners were the succulent deep flavored butter chicken and goat tikka masala, those I would go back for. Not sure I will give this place another chance as there are endless Indian options in the area that I want to try.

This place USEDTO be excellent. It seems that there is new management and everything about it is so bad now. No heat in 25 degree weather for starters. When we walked in — the server gave us the a corner table that barely fit us. There were two people in the restaurant when we got there. Half way through the meal, I asked for Naan and the server acted like he didn’t know what Naan was. So I looked around and everyone(by then 5 tables were occupied) had Naan on their table. When white folks walk in, they treat them nicely and when Indian or other Asian problem came in, they were not very nice. I even heard argument with take to another Indian customer. It is very disappointing and will never return. After all, there are so many Indian restaurants in the area. They better shape up or they will lose business so fast.

Awesome food and service. My co worker told me about this jewel and I found out it was right down the road from me. Pretty cozy dining area and staff is very accommodating and a pleasure to speak with. Food was just as I liked it. I usually get the Indian stable food chicken tikka with naan. I suggest you order takeout or call in ahead. They are packed sometimes. Also, Indian people frequent there letting you know even the Indians like the food.

So I finally made it my mission to come here for dinner and see what all the ‘hype’ was about. I’ve been to alotttt of Indian restaurants and IMO, this place is pretty overhyped. but lets start with the positives: a) I’m NOT a spicy food lover and they have a lot of non-spicy options on the menu. In fact, the menu is so helpful because there’s a little red marker(looks like a red pepper) to the left of all the spicy dishes. So if you don’t like spicy, simply choose from the dishes that don’t have this red marker. b) The chicken and lamb that I ordered were very very good. The chicken makhani and tandoori in particular were very flavorful and tender. The lamb Bhuna was my favorite. very tasty and full of flavor. c) The prices are very good. relative to the portions you get. Now here’s the negatives: a) The Butter Naan was nothing short of disappointing. I’ve had a lot of Butter Naan in my life. at Indian restaurants all over NY and even in India and this was probably the most blahhh plain ‘UN-buttery ‘Butter’ Naan I’ve ever had. The whole point of ordering Butter Naan is you want it to be fluffy and buttery. this was not fluffy & not very buttery. it was just warm naan w/a tad smudgeon of butter. b) An hour + long wait to eat dinner. really? Am I that crazy to wait that long to eat dinner. NEVERAGAIN. c) Very cramped up… very small spot, probably fits only about 30 or so people at a time & if you enjoy your space as I do. it’s not very ideal. Would I come here again? Dine-in, an emphatic NO… Take-out. YES. As I said, aside from the Naan, I did like the food here but never again will I stand up waiting over an hour just to eat dinner. That’s ridiculous.

This place is pretty darn good. We went on a Saturday night. It was incredibly busy. They don’t take reservations so you may have to wait awhile, so be prepared. I enjoyed the atmosphere and food very much. The servers were very busy so there wasn’t a lot of back and forth with the servers, which I actually didn’t mind. Random thing to point out: For a small restaurant the bathroom is ginormous! I loved the sauces and rice cakes they gave while you waited to order your food — delish! I will def. be going here again!

This place gets packed! It’s no wonder that there’s lines always going out the door. The owner is extremely friendly and has a great sense of humor! Definitely makes you feel valued as a customer! The food is amazing. Some of the best Indian and Thai food I’ve had in my life! The price is on point! Definitely come here. You will not be disappointed.

Have tried New Chili & Curry a few times. Found the food good. Tandori chicken and some of the traditional items were there. A very good vegetable fritter. This restaurant is small and charming and enjoyable to sit and relax in.

I went to this place twice for dinner. They offer a diverse menu which can be made to suit your liking with different levels of spiciness — from medium mild to hot. The restaurant is very small but accommodating. But be prepared to feel like your eating over other people like one big large family. There is not enough table and seat room. The serving staff are very friendly but there is a language barrier sometimes. The Thai Ice tea is very tasty. The food platters are large and the side appetizers are filling. I always have leftovers leaving from this place. Parking is available.

Are you kidding me? You’re still reading reviews on this place?! Go. Go now.(Well maybe call ahead to see if there is much of a wait. In fact, that is something you should definitely do because it’s small inside and there is really not anywhere to wait if it’s busy) I am going to go against the grain and recommend AGAINST getting the garlic naan — for some reason, I just always prefer the regular version and can barely eat the garlic one. Weird, I know! I have a hard time recommending menu selections here because I almost always get the same thing: the spicy lamb(Medium, which is pretty damn spicy). I tend to arrive early in the dinner hour(they take a break between 5pm dinner and lunch — DONOTBELIEVETHEHOURSONHEREORGOOGLE!) and eat near the register, so I get to observe a little bit of the«goings on» here… Stuff I notice: – The owners/managers are the friendliest people in Hicksville. Almost all of the people I see come in end up sharing a word(or twelve) with them and they communicate with genuine care and attention. It’s really heartening to see. – It seems like everyone who comes in here is a regular. From the people celebrating their 80th birthday, to businessmen taking someone from out of town to dinner, to the steady stream of take-out orders. When everyone is a regular(and it is busy), that speaks volumes. – Take out: while New Chili sells a subcontinent trifecta of Indian/Chinese/Thai based dishes, and the menu is broken up into differing sections, ANY genre of food that you order will likely be delicious. This isn’t a place where they specialize in one style of cooking and offer the others as filler; they’re experts in it all. I usually don’t notice much else — because by the time my sizzling lamb comes out, I am face-deep in my dish. One day, I’ll write a sign to post on the back of my head that says«If the sauce is bubbling, it means I’m still breathing down here».

I have been to this place a 2 – 3 times as well as ordered takeout. If dining there(and even if picking up food) but aware that parking is very problematic in the area. You will find yourself driving around for some time to find a spot. This restaurant does not have its own parking lot– which is a shame as likely would get more business if it did. The food is good and a solid choice for Indian food in the Hicksville area. It is off the main Broadway where the majority of the Indian restaurants and businesses are. This place would be ideal place to have a buffet lunch as it has a good amount of choices(veg and non-veg) which are all good — better than any mixed buffet in the Hicksville area. Seating is quite limited so you will need to arrive early. This is a place where a small group would go for a good, consistent Indian buffet lunch in this area. Reasonably priced. Again– you are warned regarding the parking situation.

Lackluster experience is what I would call our time at New Chili. We got there an hour before they close(I know, I know…) but we still gave them the courtesy of leaving half an hour after we arrived. Anyways the place is small. Maybe 10 or so tables. It was pretty busy when we arrived. The menu is extensive and has both Thai and Indian items so it was pretty hard to make up my mind. Based on previous reviews I got the shrimp chili appetizer and my husband got the heavenly chicken. When I told the waiter we were ready to order appetizers he informed us everything has to be ordered together. When we look puzzled he forgot his own rule and took the orders anyways. Both were surprisingly underwhelming. They literally came out in less than 5 min and my shrimp weren’t crispy in the least. My husband said his chicken was bland as hell. I had high hopes for the entrees. The garlic naan was the highlight of this meal. So fresh, so garlicky, so tasty! My chili fried rice wasn’t in the least bit spicy but it was filling and full of veggies. My fish curry was also very tasty and had a hint of heat to it. My husband’s tour de meat aka Tandoori Mixed Grill(chicken, lamb, shrimp, other things he couldn’t identify) pleased him but he said he probably wouldn’t order it again. Besides the main waiter who took our order, the rest of the staff seemed very nice though I felt our food was being rushed out of the kitchen because they were afraid of us staying past the close time. Though I don’t like to come in to establishments before they close, we arrived one hour before and left at an appropriate time so no need to rush. Still iffy if I wanna give this place another try…

Been there twice and it’s been delicious. They have a large menu and the food is super cheap. Chicken tikka masala and chicken tikka are yum! The restaurant tends to get full fast, and parking is almost nonexistent so plan ahead or do take out.

I must say, I was extremely satisfied with this place and very surprised at how great the food was. With 400+ reviews and a 4+ star rating, we knew it had to be good. The restaurant itself is small, but the menu is extensive. A mix of thai/chinese/indian, it’s a good selection of options for everyone. I personally do not like indian food, but my husband does, so this is the perfect place for us. We both get what we want, we both leave full and of course, we are both very happy campers. We ordered and the food came super quick. Both extremely satisfied with the taste, portion size and the price tag, we can’t wait to come back here again. So glad to finally find a place close to home that’s actually good. Coming from the City, I was afraid I might starve, but this place gives me some hope :)

I just love this place. Really deceiving when you walk up to the building as it feels like you’re entering a house not a restaurant, but that’s exactly what this place is. The staff immediately help you feel at home and want to share with you their food. Have had many things off their menu and have yet to be disappointed. Some highlights are the green chile chicken and the keema(sp.) naan.

If I could give this 6 stars I would. Not only was I incredible taken care of, by the owner, the owner’s son and an amazing staff, but I left so satisfied I had write a review! Start with the Manchurian Cauliflower. Like General Tso’s Cauliflower. Just delicious. And then The Samosa Chaat. A cold appetizer in a delicious stew sauce. It was potatoes, chick peas, mint, coriander and crispy fried wontons. So different, so delicious! For dinner, I suggest the Chili Lamb. Braised Lamb done to falling apart perfection in a delicious spicy sauce with Naan and Rice on the side. For Dessert I suggest the Kulfi. Sweet, almost like sweetened condensed milk with aromatics. Perfect palette cleanser! Fantastic. It lives up to the hype.

Lots of rave behind New Chilli and Curry. I don’t fully see it but I see there is potential. Likes: — Menu is huge — Staff is friendly and attentive — Restaurant has personality — Drinks are inexpensive Eats: — Drums of Heaven… just as the name states. Chicken wings in delecious sauce — Lamb Szechuan was very good, full of flavor and the dish came with a lot of lamb — Chicken Dhansak lacked flavor and the chicken was dry… a must not!!! Dislikes: — Parking sucks, just look around the side streets for parking — Place is small but its still worth the wait. If you get here before 5pm you should be good. — Waiter wanted us to have the full order before the chefs started our meal. We wanted to start off with an appetizer, the waiter said«oh no we don’t do that, you have to place the entire order at one time». I found that really weird. When the waiter came to take our«full» order, he had already submitted our appetizer. I will be back to try more of their menu. As of now New Chili is my 2nd favorite Indian place in Hicksville.

I saw Indian and Thai = spicy food… YUM. A very small restaurant with 10 tables. And there is no parking and after circling the block for 10 minutes I managed to squeeze into an off street spot. I put my name down and waited 15 minutes before I was seated. We ordered the Tom Yum, Hakka noodles, chicken Tikka Masala, and Naan basket. The Hakka Noodles lack any type of taste. Very bland. endup doggie bagging it. The waiter recommended the chicken Tikka Masala after I told him I love very spicy food and told him to make it extra spicy. After hearing tables next to us saying how spicy the food was I started to get very excited. When the curry finally arrived and after taking my first bite… boom…it was not spicy at all and was comparable to what I had at Buffets. The bread basket was the only thing I liked. After my meal is when I feel this restaurant drops the ball on service. I had to literally ask for the check 3 times and for them to wrap the Hakka noodles. This restaurant is so disorganized with 5 waiters/busboys they can’t even clear tables. After observing them for 30 minutes trying to pay my check. I noticed their wait staff can’t multitask. For example, when they take orders they can’t do anything else after the order has been taken but return back to the kitchen. Same with filling water or getting the check. It seems like they are programmed to do one task and complete that task before they can start another. This creates long lines for people waiting for tables and people trying to leave the restaurant. This type of practice only hinder their ability generate new revenue.
