I’ve been to Duck Donuts twice now and both times they were terrific! I love that you can customize your order so you don’t have any disappointment because they may be out of your favorite flavor. My fav combo is chocolate icing with chopped peanuts and they nail it every time! The maple icing with bacon is a family favorite with the peanut butter icing with bacon a close second. I definitely recommend picking up some donuts when you have a bit of a sweet tooth.

Fresh, made to order. Great selection. Also if you order assorted dozen they give good selection and choose quality toppings. Speed of service is really good. I go regularly and they’re always warm, fresh, delicious. The possible combination of toppings are endless. A real treat!

First of all, I feel bad for awarding only 1 star. I hate to do that to an entrepreneur, especially one that makes my favorite treat. But it must be done. The hype on this place is crazy, with lines making you wait for what you start thinking must be a fantastic doughnut. Sorry to report it’s only disappointing. I really wanted to love it, as it’s a minute from where I live, but wow, I really disliked it. Didn’t even finish the 4 doughnuts we tried. I get that it’s the anti-gourmet doughnut, but it’s really just a junky version of Ocean City’s Fractured Prune, which I love. Not impressed at all by the dough, the toppings, or the fact that they’re made to order, because they’re just not good. I hope the positive reviews arise from its newness to the area, its relatively convenient location, and the fact that the doughnuts are fresh and warm. Also hope the originals in NC are better than this, akin to how the NoVA attempts to open Fractured Prunes resulted in an inferior product and failure.

Duck donuts makes the best donuts, period. I never visited this place but our office always orders from this location. OMG, I am telling you, if you like donuts, duck donuts is the ultimate donuts shop. I have tried several flavors, lemon icing, cinnamon sugar, vanilla, chocolate with sprinkles, peanut butter, maple syrup with bacon, mint chocolate. The batter they use to make donuts is definitely different from regular donuts batter. It is so soft, moist, even after frying, it still tastes light and fluffy, almost like cake. As for the flavor, my favorite are the peanut butter and maple bacon. It is just my personal preference. But, almost all the other flavors I have tried so far are not disappointing. They are not overly sweet, which is a huge plus for me. Since I never visited the actual place, I can’t comment on the service. But their delicious donuts totally win me over. I love duck donuts!

I’m not a big donut person but these are my favorite by far. I love the fact that they are made to order and come out fresh and warm. All the different flavor combinations make it even better. My favorite is the cinnamon sugar donut or just plain glazed. I didn’t really enjoy the maple bacon donut that everyone raves about but to each their own. I’ll be making a trip here whenever I need a donut fix!

The best donut chain in the area! I always hear people talk about them in their trips to the outer banks and behold, there are several locations in northern VA now and their donuts live that hype! The concept is simple, unlike gourmet donut shops that use expensive ingredients and prep work. I was a bit skeptic at first because I like my dough gourmet, but this place reaches up my donut connoisseur list. The key to its greatness is the dough. It’s light and airy, soft, moist, with a slight crisp and crunch on the outside. Its anatomy is fried to perfection. I would feel like I’m in grade school again if asked how many different combinations of donuts I can make with eleven icings and six toppings. The point is it doesn’t matter because the base dough is made well and the donut is guaranteed to taste good. My frequent combinations are vanilla icing with rainbow sprinkles and maple icing with bacon! I heart the morning duck hero!

I love donuts. But these donuts were just whatever and blah. Employees were friendly and kind. I like how you get donuts to your liking fresh and on the spot. The toppings are limited. But has all the basic glaze/toppings. You can see the donuts frying in the machine and see the employees creating your donuts to your liking. I liked the maple bacon donuts and chocolate mint donuts. They were both soft and sweet. Try to eat them as soon you get them though. When I microwaved the donuts I had left over it wasn’t as good. Try to go when its not that busy though. Service gets really slow when they’re packed with orders. I recommend this place if people want to try it out, but you don’t need to run to it like when Krispy Kreme has their HOT sign on.

Need a donut fix, this is the place. I highly recommend that you try everything combination of donuts they have. Since this store opened up a few more this ago, I normally stop by at least twice a month. «Give it a try» –Rustic Traveller–

Walked in at exactly 8:45. Ordered one donut and a coffee. Received ticket number 41. As I waited a realized that the members they were calling were in the 20s. Surely they are taking single orders out of turn or they have some system in place, right? Nope. Needing to be at an appointment at 9:15, I had to bail without my donut. Left 25 minutes after arrival. They called 26 as I walked out the door. The short: surly employees, infuriatingly inefficient, waste of time.

Duck Donuts is awesome. I’ve never been to a donut shop where the donuts are made to order and I was definitely not let down. I got the peanut butter frosting with rainbow sprinkles and my friend got the maple with bacon. We planned on sharing one donut but we couldn’t agree on one, haha. I actually liked her donut more than mine(I mostly just really wanted rainbow sprinkles so I was willing to potentially get the less delicious one) but they were both great. The donut cake itself blew me away. It was so warm, soft and fresh. It was such a nice treat to have on a cold day.

I had always wanted to try Duck Donuts when we visited OBX but never got a chance. Then they migrated north into the Hampton Roads area(where we lived), but then we got stationed up here. Now they have two locations in NOVA! I prefer yeast/raised doughnuts… but I love doughnuts and don’t discriminate when it’s a good doughnut. These are great doughnuts. Even my mom, who doesn’t like cake doughnuts, really enjoyed her cinnamon sugar one. Super light and fluffy and not at all dense like the major chains. We look forward to taking the Husband to Dulles so we can make a pit stop to Duck Donuts. The kids really enjoy customizing their donuts. They do offer a military discount, which is great. The prices for the donuts are actually super reasonable… even without the discount. You pay more elsewhere for not super fresh, customizable doughnuts. I had ordered a latte on my second visit and was super impressed. However, on subsequent visits they haven’t been as great as the first two times I ordered them… too watered down. The staff is fairly friendly. Order forms to customize your fried creations are available to also help move the lines along. Wait times can sometimes run a while. For most of our visits, it’s moved quickly though. Also, you can order their Donut of the Day on the days they’re not featured(our favorites being the French Toast and Cinnamon Roll donuts). Only minor complaint… they need some locations further north in MD!

Can’t find Duck Donuts? Just follow your nose! That’s exactly what my friend and I did as we had parked down the street at the Herndon Centre. As we got closer to Duck Donuts, the lingering smell of freshly baked doughnuts and cinnamon immediately caught our attention. My doughnut senses were tingling! Duck Donuts occupies quite a large space, and is very open on the inside. They offer a unique concept, different from other doughnut shops in the area. As opposed to choosing donuts that are pre-made(with toppings and everything), the doughnuts here are made FRESH with YOURCHOICE of toppings. That allows for a number of different flavor combinations! First, you pick your coating(10 to choose from) and then you choose your topping(5 to choose from). All doughnuts are vanilla based and come in singles($ 1.25), ½ dozen($ 6.95), dozen($ 12.50), or a bucket($ 17.25 for 18). Aside from doughnuts, you will also find fruit and beverages on their menu, as well as Duck Donuts merchandise(t-shirts, tumblers and mugs) around their store. BTW — their duck mascot is super cute. Once your order is placed, you can sit and wait at one of their tables OR watch while they make it right in front of you! Allow me to emphasize once again how FRESH these doughnuts are. The fried dough is so soft that it literally melts in your mouth. The doughnuts here are also more filling(cake/volume wise), as opposed to being filled with lots of air holes. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend trying Duck Donuts!

Love to eat the donuts when they are freshly fried! Remember, these are CAKE donuts and not the yeast donuts. Cake donuts MUCH heavier than the softer and lighter yeast donuts. If you are a yeast donut person, you will not like this place. If you like cake donuts or a donut lover, this place is for you. There’s a LOT of hype from people about Duck Donuts from NC, but I do not think it lived up to it. Just didn’t find it that great. To each their own. I am definitely a yeast donut fan…

Since my last review, management reached out to correct the wrong. With my sister in law and 2 nephews present, the line went quicker, there were 2 cashiers and a completely separate coffee person and the donuts were thoroughly cooked!!! Chocolate with sprinkles this time and yes, they were pretty good. Many thanks to those that actually take the time to read reviews and right the wrongs! Great work!

Freshly made donuts, hand dipped and topped to order. I’ve heard there could be a pretty lengthily line outside of this place but on a Sunday morning, it wasn’t too bad. We ordered 18 donuts and created a lot of different variations but my favorite was the lemon coconut. SO good. They have a ‘Donut of the Day’ like Reeses and french toast and will make them any day of the week upon request.

All their donuts are the cake variety, but they are light, warm and have more of a fried dough quality. You can choose any toppings and it’s the same price. I chose maple with crumbled bacon, and it was amazing. Perfect complement of savory and sweet. Even the simple glazed only serve to highlight the slightly crispy doughy deliciousness of the donuts. Service is friendly and quick. All the donuts are made to order.

Love it, mind you I got introduced to this place and concept a few years ago in Duck, NC. And I about swerved into another lane when I happened to drive past this place. For those familar with the Herndon area its where the frozen custard place used to be. I’m generally not a fan of the cake donuts, but these are so delightful since they are made fresh to order. Now here’s how it works if your not familar. You arrive grab a golf pencil and an order sheet, you first pick out the glaze for your donut and then the topping. Favorites, the orange icing with rainbow sprinkles, the french toast(its the donut of the day), maple and bacon, chocolate with peanuts(ok really anything with chocolate). The waits can be pretty outrageous on the weekend mornings, so just be aware. They do keep well too and reheat nicely in the event you don’t want to deal with the morning crowds.

Freshly made donuts, hand dipped and topped to order. Since there’s are frosted and topped to order, there’s a bit of a wait time, so do expect to wait. There’s usually an absurd line here, but I was excited when I drove past and didn’t see a line out the door. Duck Donuts have daily special donuts, but you can actually get these any day of the week. There’s an ordering sheet, but we ended up just ordering with the cashier because there was no line when we went. We tried the Beach(vanilla frosting with cinnamon sugar), Almond Joy(chocolate frosting with peanuts and shredded coconut), Orange Creamsicle(orange and vanilla frosting), and Maple Bacon(Maple frosting with bacon). Each donut had a generous portion of topping. My favorite was the Almond Joy donut. Each donut was slightly warm in the box, just begging to be eaten immediately. They weren’t especially oily or greasy on the hands. Size wise, these donuts are smaller than the supermarket variety and DD kind.

Just like everyone said… these donuts are delicious!!! Comes to you hot, fresh and made to order to your liking. You are given a menu to check off what kind of donuts you want from frostings, toppings and flavor. Prices are inexpensive also, 12 donuts for $ 12. Not bad at all! The wait is long and you will have to wait at least 15 minutes every time(I waited 30 minutes on a Friday at 4pm) so you will just have to go with the flow. It’s just the process of waiting for the donuts to come out is the long part. They are fresh and cooked right in front of you, ain’t no fake dunkin’ donuts around here! My favorite are vanilla frosting with bacon. I am a bacon fanatic so of course that would be my favorite but it’s just a great mix of sweet and salty. I love coconut, so that would be my second choice and I had the chocolate and vanilla frosting with coconut and they were both delicious. Even when I warmed up the donuts the next day(for 8 seconds like it says on the box ;P) it tasted like how it was on the day I got it. It was still warm, soft and delicious. Cooked to perfection and fresh, what more can you ask for? Even though when you walk in, it might seem like it’ll take forever it goes by quick and you’ll have those donuts in your mouth before you know it. You can’t really complain about having fresh food can you? It’s worth it!

Donuts are donuts… how good can they get, anyway? That’s my thought before I visited Duck Donuts. BUTDONUTSCANCERTAINLYGETBETTER. They are warm, fluffy, and not too sweet. I’m not sure how it’s possible, but apparently it is! I had the cinnamon sugar, glazed with coconut flakes, vanilla with chocolate sprinkles, and maple with chocolate sprinkles. Cinnamon sugar is definitely my #1! I don’t usually like my donuts sticky(so I don’t usually eat glazed or ones with frosting), but their glazed donuts and frosted donuts are really, really good. Given, the glazed/frosted ones are sweeter than cinnamon sugar, but still not too sweet IMO and not as sweet as dunkin donuts. Maybe them being warm also play a role? But yea, I’m in love. I’m just waiting for the Fairfax store to open so I can get it every morning on my way to work!!!
