I’m from the San Diego area and we have a taco shop on every corner. I wish I had this one in my neighborhood because it is one of the best I’ve had. The owners are friendly and the food is super fresh. I will be stopping here every time I come through Hemet.

This is my taco spot in Hemet. I eat here quite often on my lunch break. I order the same thing every time. As a matter of fact, I don’t even have to order anymore. They just know when I walk in. I get four small carne asada tacos and a soda. I think they make larger ones, but I like the small ones. Their tacos are different than all the other taco shops in town. The steak is a quality cut, and is freshly seared to order. They put fresh guacamole and cheese on them which is another thing you don’t usually see. I top them with their hot sauce, and squeeze lemon on top… so good! They give you fresh, warm, salted chips, and homemade salsa with it too. I noticed they have some bad reviews on here. This is a small«mom and pop» shop. They’re not open all day. The owner does all the cooking, and you can tell he puts a lot of love and pride into what he serves. Unfortunately, it’s hard to sustain a small business in Hemet. I think he only stays open during the hours he can justify the expense. I usually go around noon or 1 and they are always open.

I came here a few times and the food was great and the owners are nice. I have wanted to go back but they close whenever they feel like it so it’s really inconvenient…

As soon as I called the woman who answered was debating wether she wanted to take my order, I called at 645 they close at 8. Aside from that when I went to pick up my food I received bad customer service no welcome they just rang me up and gave me my food. I asked for salsa and they gave me one little container I asked for one more and that littler container was half empty! You’re a Mexican restaurant don’t be stingy on your salsa, you make it for your customers I paid for my food so I expect some salsa with my food. If it weren’t for the food I would have gave them 1 star instead of 2. I hope ur experience is better than mine!

I love eating here and my husband and I go frequently. My last visit though I was pretty disappointed. We took our relatives who were in town here because they wanted Mexican food. We think this is the best place in Hemet so we took them there. First my aunt wanted a fish taco, the owner said«we don’t have fish» so my aunt asked could you just do a shrimp taco? «We don’t have shrimp» my aunt says«oh okay to bad, I will have a chile relleno» to which the owner said«we don’t have chile relleno». At this point I was beyond embarrassed that I took my aunt and uncle to this place. My husband and I ordered a carneasada burrito, my aunt a tamale and my uncle a chicken taco. When my husband and I received our burritos it came to both of our attention that we did not get the proper meat, mine had chicken and my husband ground beef. I did not mention anything to the owners because I already was embarrassed enough. I love this place I really do, I understand that they are having trouble with business but if they don’t have anything to serve please take the menu items down or order more food so you don’t run out.

Gone GHETTO… Tried to go back several time since this first post. Owners can’t decide if they want to be open or close. Don’t care for the latest negative reviews. Seems like the«honeymoon» is over and now you’re going to get crappy service and food!

Stopped by at 11:11 am the sign said open at 10:00 am, online it said 9:00 am, the guy behind the counter said he wasn’t ready to take orders he needed a half hour that was not the problem the problem was he didn’t seem the least bit concerned that he was turning us away. We ended up going to Taqueria Rancho Grande it was a min away and was amazing!

You know how you can judge a good Mexican restaurant by their salsa? Well the salsa is excellent here! I absolutely love this restaurant. The husband and wife team who run this place are so hospitable. I love to support this family business! Plus, the food is superb! Everything is made from scratch.

Found this place on Unilocal.Went on a Sunday afternoon. No other customers. No a/c. No ice in the soda machine. Cook/owner was VERYNICE but food only mediocre. Menu seemed limited and later found out there was a small menu on a side wall that we didn’t see. Ordered hard tacos and shells were the precooked from a box type. The kind that are like cardboard. Rest of food was so-so. Won’t return.

I enjoyed the Carne Asada Fries, Beef Tamales and Ceviche de Camaron. Honestly, since I’m a creature of habit, haven’t tried anything else – yet! Service has always been as expected, too! I will continue to patronize this family owned business…

Stopped by on the way to LA from Idyllwild. It right 74, so easy to get to. The service was great. The enchiladas with green sauce were excellent and the flautas were hand made fresh to order. Will definitely come back.

I hate to write one of the few negative reviews, but I didn’t actually eat the food here so I can’t say whether it’s good or not. Went here recently because of Unilocal.Waking in the front door, the VERY strong smell of Pine Sol floor cleaner was almost enough to knock me out. Apparently it was the cook’s lunch hour so he just looked up from his seat at one of the tables when we came in… No greeting or attempt to get up… Just stared us down. When I asked my friend if it was OK if we got an order to go rather than staying due to strong pine Sol smell, the cook said why don’t you go next door and get a pizza? And asked if I thought the smell was strong. I said yes… His attitude was so nasty, I just turned around and left. Food may be great, but I don’t need the attitude or the Pine Sol, thanks.

Usually a lot of reviews are so off that I just stopped trying to find food to my liking here. Wow! I was so pleased with how sweet they were but how good the food was. I have found that some places can screw up the basic cheese enchilada but not here! The chicken tamales! So worth the 20 minute drive. Only thing that bugged was if you eat in the chips are free. If you don’t they’re $ 1.

We love coming to Cocina Tacos El Rey as it never disappoints. This past Saturday we had family that dropped in from out of town, and they wanted to go out and eat Mexican Food. This place came to mind first. The food is always fantastic. Fresh ingreditents and plates always come nice and hot. The Owners are friendly, courteous and hard workers. My favorite is the Carne Asada Fries, or Carne Asada Wet Burrito, or did I mention the chicken tacos. And for Desert, their Deep Fried Ice Cream is the bomb! Their flan is out of this world. Bring your appetite. You won’t be disappointed. I forgot to take pictures ;(

We were looking for something nearby that had coctel de camaron and Unilocal had a review that showed this place did so we decided to try it. However when we got there, I decided to go for the molcajete mixto because it sounded way better. It came with carne asada, chicken, chorizo, shrimp and a nopal. It was soooooo good. My boyfriend and I will be coming back often. The couple that run the place are extremely nice as well. It’s like a fast food but sit down also … small place though in a little shopping center.

This is my new go to place for quick /excellent Mexican food. You do not normally get this quality of food from your typical taco shops. This place cooks it up fresh and always with a smile! I ordered the Mixed Molcajete today. Oh my goodness was it the BOMB!!! Strongly recommend it. Shrimp, Chicken, Steak and Chorizo sausage served in a sizzling hot mortar bowl with onions and avocado slices with rice, beans and tortillas on the side. Bring your appetite!!!

Over looked this place for years until it was part of the Hemet Cash Mob… Big mistake Rey’s food is amazing. The Carne Asada is cooked up fresh, chips are freshly fried and the enchiladas are amazing… This taco shop is has now replaced our former spot which we went to atleast once a week

Came here for lunch for the first time, after hearing about it from the cash mob program on Facebook. Definitely lived up to the hype. The homemade chips and salsa were great, as were our carne asada tacos. The service was fantastic as well. Looking forward to returning!
