I am from the East and moved to California 3 yrs ago. I have been searching for Greek Gyros since I have been here. Schawarmas are good but just not the same. Gyros here are great but the tzatziki sauce not really the same, the meat was really tasty. Yanni’s is located in the Manheim Auction building on Addison Way off of Industrial.

This is a very interesting place. It’s located within the auction lot building in Hayward and at first glance seems like a typical cafeteria. However, as soon as you are greeted by the gregarious Greek Yanni, he makes you feel like a guest in his home. What’s better is the foot is cooked to perfection, particularly the corned beef sandwich. Topped with just the right amount of condiments, the food is tender and savory. The place is spotless. Yanni has been in the restaurant industry for over 40 years and clearly knows his stuff. It’s open to the public, but, you have to go a little out of your way to find it. Once in, it’s like being a member of an insiders club. This is a great place to grab classic comfort food.

GREATRIBS! On the auction lot but accessible to anyone! We stopped by Yanni’s Grill, which is on the car auction lot(but still accessible to the public). They have a ton of options, from breakfast foods to lunch foods(omelets, breakfast sandwiches, burgers, mashed potatoes, etc). Yanni is a really friendly and funny Greek guy. Yanni himself suggested the ribs. They were delicious! Fall-off-the-bone awesomeness! The sauce was fantastic! I am very picky with ribs, and I would come back here in a heartbeat! TRYYANNI’S GRILLOUT!

Just attended a fundraiser for Community Assistance for the Retarded and Handicapped(CARH) at the Greek Orthodox Church in Castro Valley. The event was catered by Yanni’s Grill Café providing brunch goodies of pastries, fruit, sausage, bacon, made-to-order omelets, eggs benedics, poached salmon and chilled shrimp for about 225 hungry people. The staff and owner, Yanni Varelos did an excellent job with flavorful food, attention to detail and getting food out in an organized and timely manner! Great job! For this event, i donated my services and provided 400 cupcakes. Yanni and staff were wonderful at sharing the kitchen and providing set up of the table, platters to accommodate me. Sometimes, caterers can get ‘territorial’ and won’t share space so it was greatly appreciated! Based on the food he provided today and the overall, great service i plan to visit his café soon! If he can provide good food for a large crowd(which is hard to do), I can just imagine the deliciousness of other dishes he makes on a smaller scale.
