Place was not clean and the staff was more involved in their own personal conversations. Food handling seems very unsanitary here. Someone should send the health inspector to this place!

One word. Mediocre. Don’t come here expecting to get your mind blown, or be disappointed. All in all its decent and would take my friends or family else where. The cook should invest in some gloves as he as handling my food barehanded.

Stay away! This place had me throwing up a few hours later. It was my only meal of the day. Had ordered the mushroom & spinach cheesesteak sandwich. Kind of greasy & hardly any spinach or mushroom. Very disappointed. I will not be returing to this location.

Wouldn’t let me use my free 10inch card because it was an older card and it was $ 1 difference

Today I wanted something new, I always saw this restaurant when I went to five guys so today was the day. I stepped inside the place looks old and out dated, went up and and asked for the special and there was none. So I asked for the popular plate and she referred me to the king philli! It came out it was all greasy and unappetizing! The only good thing about my meal was the curly fries! They were pretty good! I wouldn’t see myself coming back here!

I just visited this establishment and ordered a large curly fries with my sandwich. When I asked for ranch dressing I was told that would be 87 cents extra! What!!! I can’t have one dipping sauce to go with my curly fries? That one side of ranch would cost nearly half the cost of my fries! I’ve never understood why places charge extra for ranch, but ketchup is free. But ketchup is more expensive than ranch at the grocery store. This is the first and last time I go to this cheese steak shop. I’d rather drive to Castro valley, where I’ve never had a problem getting ranch with my curly fries.

This place is extremely rude and disrespectful to their customers. The manager took my order and this wasn’t the first time I’ve been here. He claimed my 20 dollar bill was fake. Indian fellow. I showed him it was real and put it up to the light and showed him the grooves in jacksons suit for Christ sake and he wouldn’t budge. I didn’t end up ordering because I was upset. Go elsewhere for a philly

Big fan of the franchise but this was all bread no meat … Still good just very cheaply made like they only use half of what should go in the sandwich

Great hoagie’s! Came here on Sunday with a friend and we were both hungry. My friend orders the King of Philly with onion rings and cut fries and I order the spinach hoagie with chicken, onions, cheese, and peppers on a 9 in with large cut fries. We ordered to go. All the orders were correct and we ate the food with happiness. The cut fries were crispy and golden brown with the fatty lipids delivering goodness straight to my veins and belly! The spinach chicken hoagie was no exception, but 10x worse with lipids, salt, and yummy goodness to my bigger belly! I added the cut fries to the hoagie and delivered twice the goodness and crunch. The spinach and peppers and onions along with the gooey cheese and chicken was to die for. The bread could use some work, but I didn’t care, the rest was satisfying my hunger. I was very full after and very satisfied. A little too much peppers I would say, but the sandwich did not disappoint and it was flavorful and juicy. The fries were so good. I love crispy, it just makes my day :) Overall: Excellent food, Great price, Great service

They always say it’s what’s on the inside that matters… and they’re so right. This location isn’t much to look at when it comes to décor and seating — and they always take forever to make your order — but once your food is received, you’ll put that all behind you. Always full of flavor and busting out of the bread; this stuff is heaven! Throw some fries in the mix and your delight grows. Workers are very friendly and if you go enough, they’ll remember you and add a little more happiness to your day. Cheese steak for the win!

I’ve eaten at other Cheese Steak Shops and this is just like the rest of them. Service here was friendly, but they got one of our orders wrong, so look out. I had the Western cheese steak and it was disappointing. Couldn’t taste the bacon and it had only one lousy onion ring in it. Stick with the regular cheese steaks. They can’t mess those staples up. Easy shopping center parking.

It’s finally time to write a review of this place. I live across the street. I’m a regular. I’ve rode my bike here to pick up my food and have called my food in on many occasion. I’ve never eaten there because I live across the street. 2 minute car ride, 10 minute walk, 5 minute bike ride. I’m a regular. That being said, I’ve never been impressed with the service I’ve received here. The food is ok – they’re getting a little light on the meat if its not a king of philly. I really like the peppers and the onions they use on their sandwiches. They are usually pretty quick with the order and my food is always hot. The reason I won’t return is the service. The cashier is a very unpleasant man to deal with. I cringe when I make that call because I usually have to speak and deal with him. He’s curt with his questions and his tone is condescending. It’s almost like he’s an elitist and believes he’s better than everyone. Think what you wanna think about yourself, but when it comes off as poor customer service, it leaves much to be desired. Today, I called in my order for my 10″ free sandwich.(It took me like 6 months to earn my sandwich, yo!) But, I ordered steak, with the normal peppers and onions, hoagie style with bbq sauce. He told me the price on the phone, but it didn’t matter because this one was free. Finally free. Yes! I go inside to pick up my sandwich and he tells me I have to pay an extra $ 1.45. Extra? For what? This is a free sandwich. Its not a king of philly like the card says and its not any larger than what it was supposed to be. He said he is charging me «for extra lettuce and tomato.» I asked why because it’s hoagie style(hoagie style comes with lettuce, tomato and mayo). He said he charges for that. Ok. Keep your sandwich. Told him I won’t be returning and he told me goodbye as I left. I knew when I was driving home that I was going to Unilocal this situation, but had no idea that others had the same kind of funky little interactions that I’ve shared with homie over the years.(You would think he would be nicer to regulars). Either way, I won’t return. Don’t care if its close. There’s one in Castro Valley? Maybe I’ll check that one out with my free coupon and see how they do so I can make THEM my regular. Boo to this location and boo to the service. Hope there’s improvement soon.

I ordered the 7 inch classic philly cheese stake. To describe it… It was more like a scope or two of cooked ground stake and onion(flavorful but very little of) with close to no cheese with a generous topping of bell peppers(seed and all) in a soft and bread roll. I got the meal and ordered a side of curly fries. They were good and had a nice crunch on the outside and were soft on the inside. Customer Service was poor and they’re skippy with the food. For being one of MANY restaurants that serve a Philly Cheese Stake in the area, you’d hope you’d get something better from a place which it is it’s specialty.

I know it’s a chain, but some people who are not from this area may need to know about this place. It’s a-ok. Not outstanding, not bad. Food is always fresh… but, if you have a large appetite be sure to order a large sandwich. They’re getting ‘kinda’ skimpy. I always order the steak fries. they’re really good and always hot(made to order). And, they make a good salad. greens, peppers, tomato, and your choice of meat on top. like a sandwich, but on a bed of greens and no bread… My sis loves the spinach and mushroom sandwich… but we have noticed their meat portion is about 25% smaller than it was about a year ago… no «price change».just a smaller amount of filling…

My favorite cheese steak go to spot in the area — the one in Castro Valley has skimpy portions, so the folks here take care of my family’s need. My daughter loves the bacon cheese steak and hubby loves the King of Philly hoagie style. I’m simple, I enjoy the basic or the mushroom. Oh, don’t forget the garlic fries!

I’ve been coming to the Cheesesteak Shop for years. First in Fremont & Castro Valley and now here being I live in Hayward. This location I always get quick service from. I call in to order my stuff before I get there, its ready when I get there, I pay, then Im gone. I like the yellow stamp cards they have, you get 1 stamp for every $ 10 you spend. Then when the card is filled up, you get a free 6 inch philly.

What a huge disappointment! My bf really wanted to try this place so we did tonight. I ordered the phrench dip with the new garlic fries, he ordered the pepperoni sandwich and the garlic fries. The guy who took our order(indian guy with glasses) was super rude and he mumbled so when I asked him to repeat what he had asked(something about onions or peppers) I just said no and asked my bf what he had said later. When we got our order the fries were a pile of grease and garlic… but had NOGARLICFLAVOR! wth?! So then I tried my sandwich with the dipping sauce. Bland and tasteless. Tried the meat by itself absolutely no seasoning and barely and cheese… needless to say we will no be returning for over priced bland food.

Yes I’m back !!! Now that I have my stupid cast off I can type again. Today I was starving and think it has been like 5 yrs since I last ate here. As I walked in I was well greeted bye the cashier. That would be the mos polite memory I want to keep about today’s visit. I would have to be hones about it. nch sammich was ordered as a original Philly cheese was more delicious in the ads I don’t was t sound like i’m hating or sounding negative but I really was still looking for the steak. :=( The sandwich really did not have too much of a good taste to it. It was very plan and needed some ove to it. The french fries were a bit dry with not a very good taste that would make you want to come back. ”I really don’t recommend this eatery if you are that hungry. Now they do have their regular customers but as far as I cam concerned. I am staying away

4 stars is no longer justified. I’ve even tempted to give this place 2 stars after what happened last night. I went here with my son. My wife was slow to join us(she wanted a Gingerbread Latte, and so she was at the Starbucks kiosk inside Target), which may partly explain what happened. The cashier that my wife and I regularly have made me feel rushed. He even discouraged me from eating here(the restaurant closed at 9– my son and I entered at about 8:30). I clearly said that I wanted to eat«Here.» The cashier, though, doubted that I could finish my food in 30 minutes(he even laughed a little). He basically told me that I had to take my order to go(I don’t think it dawned on him that I ordered 2 sandwiches because I expected someone to join us). I was miffed because the father and daughter who just beat us inside were eating here. I don’t think they were hassled at all(I was nice enough to let this woman go ahead of us– she was in and out quickly). My wife and I have eaten here a number of times. It really NEVER takes us 30 minutes to eat. The cashier is friendly. I’m sure that he meant well. He should have kept his mouth shut, though. It’s not cool to make your customers feel rushed and unwanted. I really felt singled out. I even tried to tell the guy that I was only changing my mind because he made it sound like I had no choice(the order I placed was bagged). My number was called after about 5 minutes, but I was stubborn. I still wanted to eat here. We waited a few more minutes for my wife. My son suddenly wanted my wife’s drink(I also felt pressured to make her meal a combo– she wanted a Medium drink, but you receive a Large for only $ 1 if you make your meal a combo). He thought that it was«Agua»(water). I told him that it wasn’t, but he kept reaching for it. He even unwrapped a straw(this was kind of funny). I kept him from inserting it(he’s too young to have soda), but he ended up spilling the drink. Pepsi got all over my jeans and my son’s stroller. I sat there fuming. I also swore out loud a little. The father and daughter behind us saw what happened. So did the staff. I finally left after a few minutes. I said«Sorry» to the woman about to mop the floor(the floor had just been mopped before we came in– the guy with his daughter even had to move this sign out of the way). I swore while heading out with my son, and I didn’t actually feel that bad about the mess. It was like a statement had been made. (Of course, my wife had just reached the restaurant when my son and I were leaving. She kept asking me «What happened?» She could tell that I was pissed.) I ended up drinking the rest of the Pepsi. 2 drinks were out of order, including Barq’s Root Beer(this is what my wife really wanted). One of our cards is now full. As a result, we’re going to receive a free 10″ sandwich next time. Hooray. My enthusiasm just can’t be contained. My wife and I enjoyed our food(our Twister Fries could have been a bit better, but that’s it). I’m still upset, though, about what happened(it was actually the 2nd time that the cashier made me feel rushed). Customers should be listened to. I checked the hours before we entered(that’s largely why the father and daughter beat us inside). There was enough time to eat. I’ve been the biggest supporter of this place, but that’s no longer going to be the case.
