I really want to love this place. The atmosphere is fantastic and the ingredients are mostly local and of the highest quality. However, the kitchen struggles with seasoning and cut selection, while the cocktail program uses a motel grade ice machine. For the prices they are asking, higher levels of execution, and keener attention to detail, are necessary.

The service was excellent the food however not so much. We took our mom for a birthday dinner and as we do not live here we wanted to go to the nicest place in Harrisonburg. We ordered the special 10 oz home beef ribeye and were surprised how it was obviously not a 10 oz anything. Maybe they should weigh the steaks as they cut them? Maybe trim some of the fat? It was funny as mine was all fat. A 36.00 special of overpriced home grown fat. To top it off ALL of the sides were cold. I was the only one to complain due to it being a special birthday and my whole dinner just sucked. The manager did come over and took my meal off the check but had to explain to me ribeye does have some fat to it. My husband was thankful I did not explain to him I have worked at very high end restaurants and that amount of fat is excessive the price ridiculous the cold sides unexceptable and they need to weigh their meat to the price because that was NOTASADVERTISED!!! I must reiterate the server was amazing it’s not his fault he can’t stand behind the food and specials he serves.

Pros: This a very nice elegant restaurant, the waitresses are really polite and they attend pretty quick. The food quality is exceptionally superb as they say«top notch». They have a nice selection of wine. Cons: The portions are extremely small in a weight ratio with the price. They charge for BREAD.(that disappointed me). The menu is kinda short and is kind of messy. 6.5÷10 Will i go there again? Definitely no.

This was our 2nd visit and both were outstanding! Wait staff the perfect balance of helpful without getting in the way. The food quality, presentation and taste were all perfect. The restaurant is large, but broken into sections so wherever you sit feels very intimate. An absolute gem of a restaurant, you cannot go wrong.

Excellent service and food. The timing of our drinks, apps and entrees was well executed along with the food. We had a party of seven and they accommodated us well. Great wine and beer selections with many local offerings. The selection of cuts was what you would expect but I was surprised to see that only the pork chop was«locally sourced». With the amount of cow farms in the area, I thought most of the beef would have been local, unless I missed something entirely on the menu? I had the seasonal soup which was butternut squash with tomato. Excellent! I wanted to drink it. Our group mostly ordered the Rib Eye, with two of us ordering N.Y. Strip and one petite filet. I was slightly bummed with my steak(N.Y. Strip), it was cooked as ordered but I just wasn’t blown away as I expected to be and left me wishing I went with a filet instead. The sides were solid, Pimento cheese grits and you really can’t serve asparagus wrong. No espresso available(broken machine) but coffee was okay. Not a big dessert group but two of us had the salted caramel ice cream and they raved about it. Very good showing by the chop house and such a great ambience.

My husband and I were looking for a great restaurant to go to for our wedding anniversary. After searching through several websites and on Unilocal,we decided on Local Chop & Grill. We were able to make reservations on Open Table for 8pm and was really looking forward to our night. If you use GPS the instructions from Massanutten Resort, it will try to take you down a one way road. You can go up one block and basically do a U turn to go down the road and turn into valet parking on the right. My husband is a vegetarian so I was worried that they wouldn’t have selections for him but I was wrong. All of their dishes were AMAZING!!! Our waiter was amazing with an awesome personality! For appetizers we had the Virginia Cheese Plate and I had the Calamari… both delicious! For my husband’s entrée he selected the Cauliflower«Steak» with the arugula parmesean sauce along with Mac n cheese & Smashed Potatoes. If you are a vegetarian and enjoy cauliflower, this is a perfect dish. For my entrée, I selected the 12oz ribeye with the house rub and Virginia BBQ sauce along with Mac n cheese and broccoli. I thought the Mac n cheese could have had a bit more seasoning but overall still a delicious meal. For desert we selected the Chocolate Mousse. The restaurant brought it out with a chocolate inscription of «Happy Anniversary.» Do I recommend this restaurant??? Yes!!!

Wow! Fantastic food, fabulous service and beautiful location! I came here with my family to celebrate my mom’s and brother’s birthdays. Our server Billy went above and beyond to make it a wonderful evening. And staff was very accommodating to the 4yo and infant in our party. I especially love that I could have an all locally sourced dinner of pork chop with peach salsa, tomatoes and grits! A couple weeks before our reservation I spoke with Rachel, the pastry chef about birthday cake options. She made a beautiful chocolate cake, which everyone loved! And when I left the remaining cake behind staff was kind enough to call and save for me to pick up later. Everyone enjoyed the left over cake a couple nights later! I will definitely be returning whenever I make my way back from the PNW to visit my brother!

Excellent, excellent restaurant!!! The wait staff was top notch. Our food was exquisite… I have zero complaints about this place. My steak was a little over done but they took care of the problem quickly and efficiently. I will definitely return here when I’m I’m the area! We came to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary and this place exceeded our expectations considerably!

Delicious food, phenomenal service! I could go on and on about the steak but there is no need to. Come and try yourself. I love my filet mignon. Ordered the 8 Oz with the Shenandoah spice rub, arugula pesto sauce, smashed potatoes and mac n cheese. All were delicious, especially the mac n cheese. Steak was cooked perfectly as requested; medium. Hubby loved his food as well. This place will definitely go down on my top 5 list of best steakhouses I have ever been to. Regarding the service; perfect. Waiter was very engaging. No complaints here. Will definitely try to make it back here If ever in the area.

This place is rock solid. I’d say that the bar is a better choice for place to dine, atmosphere is great, and service has always been excellent. …and then there’s the fare– I’d recommend any kind of steak, the preparation, temp, sides, are expertly done. A true find in Harrisonburg

First, I want to say that we ate in the bar area during happy hour on a Friday — we didn’t eat in the formal dining area. The bartender was very attentive, the prices in the bar area were reasonable, and the food was really good. The bar area started to get louder and louder as the afternoon turned into night. However, that’s expected for a bar and wasn’t a bad thing to me. I would recommend getting to the bar earlier than the«average dinner time» or else you risk not getting a table or having to wait on one. The bar area tables got really crowded once it was about 5:30/6pm and there was a constant line of people waiting for tables by 7pm. Overall, great place with good food, prices, and service.

We have been going here since they opened and it is one of our favorite special occasion restaurants. The servers are professional, friendly, and well trained. They are knowledgeable about the menu and the beer and wine list. The new menu is out — and not surprisingly– the prices have gone up again. I think the steak that I often order has almost doubled in price since we started going there. Started out around $ 15 now closer to $ 30. But! This is quality food prepared from scratch. We’ve had innovative sides and appetizers and some great desserts and we love the ambiance. So it is worth the cost to support a local business. Reservations recommended. Outdoor seating can be noisy with traffic and the grain mill, but we still love sitting outside. 5 Yums!

Amazing place to eat for special occassions or if you want a more upscale meal. Went there for Valentine’s Day a few years ago to the dinning room and the meal was beyond anything you could ever expect to find in Harrisonburg. Perfectly cooked steak and tilapia with decilious asparagus and mac n’ cheese. We then began going to their bar instead which we highly recommend and prefer. They have some of the great menu items the dinning room has but additionally has more options such as bison burgers and duck fat fries with peach ketchup! We have ordered the same steak and fish with mac n’ cheese as above in the bar as well. What I love the most if their alcohol selection. Wide variety of craft beers, excellent wine list(must try their Spanish Malbec!), and cocktails. Their cider margarita this winter was the best cocktail I’ve had to date. And I drink a lot :) Get to the bar early to get a table since they don’t do reservations and plan to stay late. They also have delicious desserts. Tried their ice cream tio with vanilla bean, satled caramel, and belgium chocolate flavors. Always an excellent meal

We celebrated a pre-Easter dinner on a Saturday night, reservations at 8:30. We had a drink in the bar before our reservation time and they were excellent. We were seated at a table near the kitchen service entrance and it was not a great location. Note to staff: I would have gladly waited an extra 10 minutes to get a table farther from that area. We ordered the charcuterie plate and the cheese plate and both were very good, with the exception of the following: the lardo, which should be soft and cured with a clean flavor and texture was not great, and the one of the cheeses still had a significant amount of the rind on it, which when working with such small amounts of cheese, felt like a bit of a cheat. Our entrees were very good; the pork chop was a tad underdone, but a quick trip of the underdone section back to the kitchen fixed the issue quickly. The duck fat fries were nice, but they tasted a bit like they had cooked donuts in the duck fat previously or added cinnamon sugar to the fries after cooking. I would have preferred to taste the nice local potatoes instead of a potato-donunt mash-up. Notwithstanding the above issues, the meal was excellent, the drinks delicious and the atmosphere beautiful. I would not hesitate to go again, and you should too!

One of the best meals I have ever had… seriously! My boyfriend and I were in town for a weekend away and we decided to try this place. We pulled up and valet was right there to get our car… poor thing! It was freezing out but he was very polite. We got inside and the hostess politely told my boyfriend that he needed to remove his hat as they don’t allow them there. You see, he was wearing a ridiculous hat that was a pig! It’s sooooooo stupid, he loves it so I am ok with it, but they handled him nicely! We had the Mussels and Oysters Rockefeller to start. I had an amazing Old Fashion to drink. I had a Filet Mignon for dinner with the asparagus and grits and it was FANTASTIC! I have been to some amazing restaurants and this was crazy good! My man got the Rib Eye with asparagus and fries. I loved the dipping sauces that came with steak. Service was great too! You won’t be disappointed!

I lived across the street from this amazing places for 4 years… yes, I was very lucky :) There are two parts to the Local Chop & Grill House: The Bar, and The Restaurant The Bar: I went here sometimes it felt like too often, and sometimes, not often enough. If there was a place in Harrisonburg outside of my home that I felt the most comfortable, it was this place. I think my favorite spot was in the two-person table against the wall next to the fireplace and the booths. The service is always great, and they are always accommodating. We had our farewell dinner here and even though our server(who I should remember his name, but I just can’t!) just got back from vacation and was exhausted, handled our ever-changing number in our party with such ease. The food was steller and I loved my Bison Burger, fries, and mac & cheese combo. The Bison Burger is the one food item from Harrisonburg I miss! You don’t have to dress up for this place, but please don’t look sloppy. Some bring kids which is fine, but really, it’s an adult bar. It feels like the right place to be. The Restaurant: We go here for anniversaries and birthdays. The steaks are great the scallops are great… really whatever you order is likely great. Our service here has always been very good as well. Be sure to tell them if you are celebrating and you’ll get a little thing of ice cream. There are some tables outside but under and overhang if you would like to be out there. We were out there when it was pouring… I mean absolutely pouring. But the trees help shield us from the wind-spray and it was rather nice. Yes, you are right on Route 11, but the trees help with that feeling too. Side notes: They have free valet(but we lived across the street and never used it), but there is parking along Route 11 if you prefer. And there is a coat rack just inside the door as well as an umbrella holder. Just be warned if you have a black coat. I have a friend who had someone take his by accident because there are so many black coats! The managers are nice, the bartenders are nice, the chef is nice(and was on Cutthroat kitchen!). If anything goes wrong, just be nice, and you’ll be sure to be taken care of.

Amazing, amazing, amazing!!! This is my new favorite restaurant and even though it’s located out of town but I still would have to rank this place as a top contender of the restaurants back in pittsburgh. I love their seasonal menu which makes it fun to never have to pick from the same food all the time. They offer great meat choices as well as appetizers that are great like my bacon and eggs. SeriousI never knew pork could taste as good as what I ate which I think was pork butt. The egg was a soft soufflé light and airy and so moist like I prefer. The hubby ordered a steak with 2 accompanying sauces of steak sauce and chimichurri. Some of the best chimichurri I’ve ever tasted and I’ve eaten it from the home of an argentinian woman who caters for a living. Amazing garlic flavor and I love garlic on everything. The steak was perfectly cooked and moist. My meal which was a grilled pork chop was amazing as well and I smothered it in chimichurri sauce. The sides are just as good although I wasn’t too happy about the rice. To complete our meals I ordered the bread pudding and it was so warm and soft and went perfectly with my raspberry sherbet. The had made this cake with a tad of chocolate and I don’t like chocolate but i literally licked the plate on this one. I’ll be sure to visit this place again next time I go to VA.

Great menu options; in fact it was hard to choose. My husband and I both ordered pork chops. I got the seasonal rub with whiskey cider jus, chefs choice of local veggies, and the mac n cheese. My husband got the house rub, a citrusy yuzu sauce, polenta and the veggies also. We both ordered our chops medium. My chop had a great flavor, and the sauce was great. The veggies turned out to be roasted broccoli and cauliflower, that was amazing — in fact I regretted not ordering a cauliflower steak after tasting the veggies. The mac n cheese was just okay. I love chèvre and macaroni and cheese, but this fell short of expectations. The sauce broke, leaving a lot of oil on the bottom of the ramekin, Mac n cheese should never be drippy, in my opinion. My pork chop was also a little too rare near the bone, and there was a large gristly portion, at least 4 bites worth of waste. The server was very helpful with making dessert suggestions. The apple crisp was good, but not mind blowing, but my husband loved the sticky toffee pudding. Service was good, a little slow near the end of our meal as other tables filled up. It was entertaining to watch the servers skillfully carry full trays up and down the stairs, very impressive. If I were to return on a future trip to Harrisonburg, I would order a filet or cauliflower steak, the polenta(my husband’s was delicious), and if it were available, the pumpkin spiced crème brûlée I should have ordered.
