Points knocked for not the best value from what I was expecting. Also the sauces are served in way too small containers and about an hour later my crew was hungry again.

Absolutely delicious. Stopped for a quick lunch– had the tabouli salad and the Mediterranean salad with added chicken. My husband had a chicken kebab in a wrap. Service was phenomenal. Highly recommended!

We were traveling down to Virginia Tech and needed a place to stop for lunch. Thank you, Unilocal for showing us the way to Kani’s! The four of us had a great lunch and were very happy with our meal. The service was very good and the servers couldn’t have been nicer. The restaurant is tucked away in a strip mall and we were treated like a local. If I was back in the area, I’d definitely stop there again. The pistachio baklava was delish!

As of writing this, the lowest review of Kani’s is 3 stars. They are 40+ reviews and the lowest is 3 stars. Doesn’t that really tell you all you need to know? Alright, let’s get more detailed. You’re going to be a little concerned about Kani’s at first. It’s in a strip mall, the place is small and quite frankly, not much to look at. Try to ignore those sensations. It’s a relatively new place and they’re much more focused on the food than the décor. Now look over at the pastry case. Feeling much better now, aren’t we? Their pastries are definitely their strength with a wide variety of deliciousness at affordable prices so you can try a bit of everything. I recommend you do just that. If you pick one thing though, go for the baklava. You won’t be disappointed. The food here is good as well. They do Mediterranean food and they do it well. Just one word of warning: if you are used to the hummus that comes from the store, you’ll be a bit surprised by Kami’s. It’s easy to tell they make it themselves so it’s just a bit chunkier than the processed stuff. It’s still very good, just not as smooth. Do yourself a favor and get some nann to go as well. Your sandwiches will thank you.

Amazing food. So happy to have them here in the burg’. The Mediterranean super salad with chicken added was excellent. I tried all of the sauces and dressings. The spicy and the balsamic are my favorites. It’s a must to try the tea and the homemade bread with hummus.

We took a road trip to the Green Valley Book Fair and needed a spot for lunch. Unilocal led me to this spot, so thank you Unilocalers! This is some of the best naan I have ever eaten. It was fresh, soft and absolutely delicious. While we were there, several people came in and bought bags of the bread. Yes, it’s that good. I wasn’t a fan of the tabbouleh because had far too many onions to suit my taste. My son ordered hummus and thought it was great. I thought it was okay. Both my husband and I ordered wraps(he got the gyro and I got the chicken kebab). Also the tabbouleh and hummus come with black olives. Where are the kalamatas?! We ordered the wraps without onions, but they arrived fully loaded with them. To the owner’s credit(I assume it was the owner), she offered to make us new wraps. We declined because it is just as easy to pull out the onions ourselves. She then offered to take one of the wraps off our bill(we also declined) or give us a free dessert. She went over and above what was a simple mistake that we could rectify ourselves. The owner was working the counter and waiting on tables. I am glad we got there before there was a huge rush because that is a lot to manage for one person.

Really excellent food and service. Great people run this place, and the food matches. We tried all of the entrée options and found every single one of them delicious. The kufta and chicken kabobs were standouts for me, and the naan is very good as well. Don’t miss this place, it is one of the few places I am going to intentionally plan my driving routes around.

There’s something magical walking into an ethnic café, where the smells, sounds, and flavors bring you to a far away place. It’s almost like escaping to a different country for a meal. This is what it feels like to walk into Kani’s. They bake their breads in a clay oven every morning, and will even bake some for you with a day’s notice. There’s meat and vegetarian options, salads, breads, and desserts. Beverages including real tea and coffee, and of course the lynch pin to any middle east establishment, humus and falafel. And at these they excel. Made from scratch, right at the establishment, it can’t even be compared to what one finds in a grocery store aisle. Coupled with attentive service and a great atmosphere, it’s hard to go wrong with this place.

We have a similar restaurant in my hometown, but they usually sell out of food before I’m able to get there for dinner. They don’t seem to care that they shut their door early every day, and people literally line up out the door pretty much any time of the day. It’s in Lexington, KY and it’s called Sahara. Anyway, it’s my favorite restaurant so I was excited to see Kani’s so close to my hotel and with a 5 star rating! This place is awesome!!! I would give it 5 stars on the homemade stone naan bread and hummus alone, but everything else we had was delicious. My husband and I shared a chicken kebab and the Kurdish kubbeh. The service was excellent and we felt right at home. We are in Harrisonburg often and I’m already looking forward to eating here again.

Came here for lunch and luckily there were seats but tons of people were coming in and out for take out. The owner, Connie, greeted us right away and asked if we had tried any of the food that was on the menu before. She was very sweet and explained about some of the desserts, which I had never had before. She also said everything at the restaurant is made directly in house. I got the falafel wrap, which you can get as an actual wrap or the way it’s pictured. It was soon good. I had been craving falafel and this hit the spot for sure. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sauces were all delicious, there was a spicy one, tahini and another that I don’t recall. But I used allll the sauces. My friend got the lamb wrap and it was really good too! I had to steal a bite of it. We tried the baklava and heresa. The baklava was extremely flaky and sweet. The heresa was like a coconut cake. I recommend both for sure. I love this place! Will definitely be back.

Really delightful restaurant — EVERYTHING is delicious. And cheap. And composed of excellent ingredients. The falafel is super crisp and fresh and lively, with green herbs inside, and obviously cooked in good quality oil. It comes with nan that is perfect — just the right amounts of yeast, stretch, etc. The really surprising thing was the quality of the salad ingredients, especially in December. The pistachio baklava is SONICE. So fresh, so perfectly balanced.

You must… MUST try Kani’s! This is on my top 5 places on Unilocal for food, but the bakery items themselves deserve a separate 5 star rating. Kani’s is tucked in behind the Target, but once you find it you won’t forget it. Staff: Kani is extremely friendly! We were met with hot tea that was refilled seemingly every 10 mins. She brings out complimentary fresh baked nan, which is a middle eastern bread that I have had many times throughout my military career. This was fresh, great with the meal and not overly filling by itself. Nice. We started with the lentil soup. My wife makes great lentil soup– so I was looking forward to it. What Kani brought was SO good. I could have eaten a pot of it by itself. Flavorful and so tasty. I had to tell my wife she had been dethroned in the lentil soup category. We were a group of 4, and every one of us were talking about how good our meals were. I had the chicken kebab and it was grilled. Everything was so fresh, full of flavor and delicious. My friend had the falafel wrap which I think she may still be talking about, while my wife had the lamb kabob. My wife is Greek– and eating here brought back many good memories of great meals in her childhood. The baklava and other FRESH baked treats she had there were some of he best I have ever had. I had good baklava in Kusadici, Turkey this past summer, and it didn’t come close to what Kani made. Get the little round treats with the pistachios in it. Trust me, you won’t regret it. Every time we come to this part of the state we will stop here. Matter of fact… I think we’ll head over and get some treats to go for the trip back to DC.

Came here for dinner, met up with a friend. First impression: too bright, sparse, didn’t care for the ambiance. But the family that runs the place was very friendly. The spinach pie and chicken kebab was amazing. The Biryani special was the best I’ve ever had. The owner gave us complimentary tea afterward. Definitely coming back here for lunch as often as possible.

Here is what we ate on our first visit Gyro Beef and Lamb Mixture very nicely Seasoned Tomato Salad Meat Pie(reminded me of a lot of a Lebanese version that I have tasted in a few places) Coconut Macaroon Tea with Cardamom(you could taste the Cardamom) Very Nice
