I visited Zimmerman’s for the first time today to pick up some Valentine’s Day candy. I stepped in and was blown away. From candy, to dried fruit, to various nuts, if you can’t find something you like, you have no idea what you want. Old time candy, delicious chocolates(the types I got received rave reviews), and bulk candy galore. Their prices are very competitive. They might be best know for their natural, homemade peanut butter(which is also delicious). I’ll be back in short time.

Unique throwback candy shop. Nowhere else like Zimmerman’s, at least not in this area. If you are looking for a hard-to-find sweet, chances are that Zimmerman’s will have it.

It’s like going back in time, …candy time. Sure they have every bulk candy-making item you could want. But it’s the snack side that is the most fun. I appreciate all the old time favorites which are hard to find: Pop Rocks, Pixie Sticks, Bottle Caps, all things gummie, nonpareils, coconut macaroons, and the good old standbys of chocolate covered everything and Wilbur Buds. Tips: –Parking lot is miniscule. Park on the street, but watch signs. –It sits next to a school. Plan your trip to avoid when the school lets out. –Don’t go during fruitcake making season. I made that mistake once. 100 little old ladies from Perry County, all wanting nuts and those odd colored dried fruit that only apear in fruitcake. It was a mad house of support hose. –Try their fresh ground peanut butter.(Heaven.)

Do you like candy, chocolate and nostalgia? If not, Zimmerman’s is not the place for you(plus, i think you are wierd!). The candy is amazing and fresh and the people who work there(and who have clealy worked there for years) are friendly and helpful. If you love to make or make candy, they have the best melting chocolate(i.e.Belgian) and really good prices. Plus, you can get a TON of sprinkles in every color, shape and size. The almond butter(homemade) is slammin, but it’s roasted in pnut oil, so it’s not friendly for kids with nut allergies(like my neighbor who i bought it for). This time of year, try the Majool Dates. They are super lush and juicy… with much more meat than a regular date… just watch out for those pits!!!

Zimmerman’s is THE place to go in the Harrisburg area for candy, nuts and dried fruit. First of all, we should all support local family businesses, and this one has been around for nearly 100 years! Second, the prices are much cheaper than local grocery stores, especially on the dried fruit. Third, the customer service is top notch. They have bulk candy as well as the regular brand candies, so this is a great place for presents and treats! PS– try the peanut butter. It’s homemade, kosher, no trans fat or artificial sweeteners. YUM.
