I used to come here every month for their yakitori. I really don’t understand why they would remove their popular yakitori off the menu. Heard they bought out Honda-ya, so I went hoping that I can have the same yakitori… sadly they don’t taste the same anymore. Please bring back the yakitori @ Ojiya~!!

So bummed out! They decided to stop having yakitori at this location. The owner purchased another location and moved the yakitori there. So, they serve more sushi and sashimi here. There are still cooked items like the miso sea bass etc but no more yakitori!

Just found out that one of their best sushi chefs has been transferred to this location!!! They now serve sushi instead of yakitori! Omakase(chef’s choice) with sushi chef Nabe is greatly recommended!

I never had Kurage nigiri before even in Japan!!! I loved that!!! Also he’s a funny man!!! I had a great b-day night! Thank you

Stopped by here for lunch with some of my co-workers. It’s a small restaurant go make sure to call ahead if you’re going with a big group. We had 7 people and it took us about 10 minutes to get seated. They offer a lunch special ever day at pretty good value however, their menu aside from that is pretty pricey for the area. Expect to spend about 13 – 15 bucks tax tip included. The food is pretty good, with big portions. I tried their daily special which was chicken teriyaki with california roll, 2 pieces of sushi, and potato croquette. Meals also come with soup, salad and rice. A few of my coworkers ordered the fried rice. Apparently that’s one of their dishes! Overall, i’d come back here again but only if i’m feeling splurgy for lunch.

I spend over a hundred doller for dinner here. Big mistake ever. Wrost cut for toro cost me 14. It runs by Japanese but any Korean AYCE sushi give you better food for the money. Don’t let my pic fool you, the toro is very chewy. One of the sweet shrimp is vety fishy. Not acceptable!!!

My company came here for a quick happy hour meet. This place was a back up as our original location was closed for renovation. It’s not the easiest place to find in a dark, ghetto plaza with the 99c store anchoring the whole plaza. The restaurant is located in the far corner and the signage wasn’t too obvious. When we arrived around 6:30pm, the place was pretty dead. Made me question the state of the business. Ambience: it feels like a typical Japanese restaurant. Can’t speak much of it. Food: The only thing I appreciated that night was the cold Sapporo beer. I didn’t like any particular dish. It’s hard to dine with a large party when small dishes are shared. It felt like, should I opt out so the other person can get a piece? Parking: nothing to worry about as the plaza isn’t packed.

2 stars– everyone was polite, water and tea was always refilled. Vegetarian review: — tofu nuggets: I really should have known better. They weren’t horrendously awful, just pre-frozen, deep fried, non-flavored nuggets. Like pieces of frozen food kids would eat. — omu rice: the waiter knew I was vegetarian, and I asked if the katsu was on the side; he said it was on top, so I could just move it(for the meat eaters at the table). Didn’t mention that there was chicken in the rice itself. Sigh. — dessert: same waiter said it had both the blocks of mochi– style squares & the black flour thing-a-am-bob on the side. Brought it out and said that it was a mistake– only mochi blocks. Blamed the picture and said it was a few years old. Too bad my friend only ordered it for the black flour thing that she tried to verify existed.

Came here during lunch time since it’s near my office. The waitress greeted us in Japanese as soon as we arrived. They have a lot of options for lunch special but I decided to go for Pork Cutlet. My pork cutlet meal came with side cabbage salad, miso soup and one rice. I love how their rice was a little sticky and soft, taste very similar to rice from my home town. The cutlet was super thick and tender. The cabbage salad was meh, dressing was okay. We also had takoyaki as appetizer and they were way too creamy. My coworkers ordered their lunch box and they looked humongous, the food looks okay though. There is really nothing to rave about this place. Everything seems to be okay but not impressive.

Longest wait for miso soup. We came with a party of 6, sat down and though slow to take our order, they eventually came. Once they took our order, it took about 45 minutes for them to bring out miso soup. Someone in our party had to go ask them why it was taking so long. Food is understandable if you are backed up in the kitchen but miso soup is pre-made and does NOT take 45 minutes to drop it off at the table. Once the food came, they didn’t bring us any of the sauces(tempura sauce, soy sauce dishes, etc) we had to ask them for it. The food was okay. My girlfriend told me to get the cod misoyaki and it was really good. Spicy tuna roll was less than mediocre. They never refilled our water cups until the end after we paid — because we ASKED. I came here before for their lunch specials and I never really had any complaints until now. Hoping this spot will get their act together — the service was horrible!

Affordable and authentic! They offer a solid variety of sashimi, bento boxes, and the like :) The menu is huge and overwhelming, but there’s definitely something for everyone. The hubby and I both ordered bento boxes and were happy with everything we tried. We also ordered the chicken karaage, which was bland… and the croquette, which was delicious! It seems like their food is hit or miss, but it’s mostly all pretty good. My only gripe is the line can get pretty long here and since it’s a small little restaurant, be prepared to wait! Otherwise, solid Japanese food — probably worth closer to 3.5 stars!

I had to search for a Japanese place in Hacienda Heights that this place looked decent for a chain restaurant. I had the California roll with chicken teriyaki combo with miso salad and rice. The food tasted good then I really look for those good Japanese hidden gem places. Ambiance here is relaxing when is not too noisy. It wasn’t very busy during the lunch hour on a weekend. They close 2PM then reopen at 5PM for dinner. Maybe its busier at night here.

I’ve been here many times and the food that I usually order never fails to disappoint. I always get agedashi tofu here because it is made so freshly. Ojiya is proud to display signage saying that their dashi broth and tofu are both made in house. As a result, the tofu is smooth and the dashi broth is not over seasoned and is msg free. Their hegi soba is also awesome. Once again, their soba is house made. The presentation of the dish is unique. Each bite of soba is individually portioned. Seeing a trend here? House made is better. All their other items on the menu are about average from what I’ve tried. They are also known for yakitori but each skewer is pretty pricy… on average 2.50−5 per protein stick. The bill adds up easily. If I order yakitori I generally only stick to the beef tongue. If you come here during peak times on weekends you can expect up to an hour wait for a table. If you sit at the counter, the wait is much shorter. The cleanliness of the bathrooms and tables are fine, but the floor is a bit dirty. The location is a bit hidden away in a sketchy ish looking plaza and sometimes you see some unsavory looking people walking around.

I found this place on Google looking for ramen that was open late. Service was fantastic with quality food to match. — We came in around 9:30 pm when place closed at 10 pm. They seated us and never made us feel rushed once. — Quality, fresh salmon. — Great deal on a bucket of Sapporo. — Pork based ramen is delicious and I will definitely be returning for more. — Vegetable Hot Pot with Pork had the freshest ingredients with large chunks of tofu.(YUM) Overall the experience exceeded my expectations. I am thrilled to have found this little gem so close to home. There is plenty of seating and the décor is true to Japanese culture. Their menu has so much to offer, it’s a must see and try!!!

I was really unimpressed with this location. I have been here two times during lunch hours. It was not busy during both times. The place can be easy to miss since it is hidden to the side of the large plaza where the 99 cents store is. They offer lunch specials around 7 to 8 dollars. Their udon tasted like your average udon noodles that you can get anywhere else. I did not enjoy the chicken katsu either. Maybe they shouldn’t fry it in such large and random chunks. The sushi was sloppily cut and did not taste very fresh. I feel like I ordered the wrong items because my friend Alan K. really recommends their soba noodles and yakitori. The next time I come here, I will give those a try. Service was attentive and not overbearing. The place was clean, small, and well-kept. They have fliers with specials taped everywhere on the walls so be sure to read those.

Last time I came here, it was pretty quiet on a Saturday night. This time I came on Friday night and it was pretty busy. One customer came in after us and just walked on in and took a seat like he owned the place, so we were very unhappy about that. The manager had to step in and take our seats back. Same dude later on just walked to the grill and asked for food before it came to him… and the grill guy actually gave it to him! How rude and inappropriate! Was he friends with the grill guy? I saw the grill guy get lectured by his co-worker about it afterward… But anyway… sake on the house was offered to us because of that unpleasant experience. As for food, we ordered much more this time than we did last time and I felt like the food was better and more memorable this time around. The yakitori came out excruciatingly slow, but at least we ordered kitchen food and it gave us plenty of time to relax and slowly enjoy our food. If I only ordered yakitori, I would have been one unhappy and hungry camper. Nigiri sushi: Very good quality. Salmon toro, tuna, hamachi. All amazing. Yakitori: I enjoyed our selection a lot, except for the scallops, which were dry. Meatballs, chicken breast with wasabi, chicken with green onion, tomato bacon, shishito, garlic, pork belly, kobe beef. Kitchen food: Ojiya salad, mochi agedashi, tonkatsu with egg and cheese, takoyaki. Although yakitori took forever to came out, I enjoyed my meal much more this time around. It’s been a while since I’ve been to an izakaya and they’re always great places to relax and catch up. I had a good time.

There’s only two reasons why you should come here: Soba and yakitori. FOODQUALITY: Honestly you can’t go wrong with freshly prepared soba, and you can tell it’s good soba because you can really taste the buckwheat flavor. So when you take that sweet, earthiness and add nori & fresh dashi you’ll find both a balance of bright and subtle flavors; while the soba’s flavors are constant, the dashi delivers this powerfully bright acidic sweetness that then bridges to a earthy pinch of nori and, optinally, wasabi. Since the soba is shocked in ice-water to stop the cooking, it’s easy to keep eating since the coolness of the soba makes every bite refreshing and light. The yakitori, on the other hand, delivers intense salt and meaty flavors that can really make your meal complete. Be it beef tongue, beef cheeks, or chicken, each skewer had juicy, tender and well-seasoned meat. The meat grade here is higher than average. SERVICE: Our server was strangely really attentive, to the point where it felt like I was dining at a high-tier restaurant: asked if our food was okay, explained dishes presented, occasionally checked on our table, and was polite/kind about everything. Probably one of the best service I’ve had at a Japanese restaurant. ENVIRONMENT: Somewhat clean, sleek, and nothing different from a standard Japanese restaurant. Overall, I’d definitely want to come back for their soba and yakitori. it’s something you should experience at least once.

Yummy Yakitori This place doesn’t disappoint when you want quality Yakitori and Soba. Been coming here for a while and the food has been consistently good. A few things that I would always order: Yakitori — chicken skin, beef tongue, pork belly. The cold noodle soba is also very yum. A great little place for a few friends with food and alcohol. Also good for a nice meal for two. I do have to point out that the place isn’t that big so chances are, you’ll have to wait on weekend nights. They also have a variety of raw fish, ramen and bento boxes to choose from. If you were to order separate little items, it can become pricey. Price is a little but on the $$$ side but the food quality makes it worthy. Recommend for: small groups, family(they ask for no stroller in the restaurant), medium group, date nite, Yakitori lovers.

*LUNCHONLYREVIEW* This might replace Foo Foo Tei as an all purpose Japanese lunch place in the Hacienda Heights area for me. There is a large menu with plenty of options to choose from. Sushi, sashimi, teriyaki, and tempura. I came in here on a Sunday and there was some breezy Jazz music playing from speakers placed throughout the restaurant. It really set a relaxed mood. The décor is definitely country Japan. Bamboo reeds all over. Bamboo curtains, bamboo dividers. Food — I got a three item bento box with chicken teriyaki, tempura, and pork cutlet. Love the juicy teriyaki and pork cutlet. High quality chicken here. No dry pieces of leather here! Good tempura as well. They give you rice, salad, soup, and potato salad with the bento. Lots of food here. Definitely coming back for lunch. Makes me want to try their dinner grill.

It’s probably the worst sashimi I had in the long time. Even half AYCE sushi places serve better and fresher fish than this place. I ordered deluxe chirashi box $ 18.95 since Ojiya in Chino hills wasn’t bad… I thought I would give it a try. When it was served, I was overwhelmed by the look of the box. Everything squeezed in a tiny box. If you ever had it at Sushi Koto. you will know what I mean…
Few pieces of fish had a fishy taste and the rest were just average at best. The cut was so bad that you can’t bite through but had to swallow it. Ugh… I know it wouldn’t be that great but I really wasn’t expect it to be this bad. My friend’s pork cutlet egg don did not loo anything like other Unilocaler’s picture. It looked like it was made by a sloppy kitchen staff. She felt that the pork cutlet had been sitting there for a while before it was served. Yakitori was probably the best dish of the night. Even with a beer, I still left angry. Service was very nice and friendly. The only good thing about this place is probably the ambiance, We were seated at the corner near the window. It was quiet. the seating was comfortable, it was so nice to have a talk… Just don’t be fooled by the authentic look of this place.(hmmm…speak of authentic, well, they have all menu written in Chinese)
