Four stars for the historical ambiance and the bartender, three for the drinks and ZERO for the food. The soup was nothing more than canned tomatoes with an jalapeño chopped in, tasted like a tin can. Horrible, ghastly!

Oldest bar in California. Opened in 1852. Good drinks, food and great live music most of the year. Definitely a place to visit.

I always come here at least once or twice each time I stay in Groveland. The food, service, and atmosphere are totally fun if you aren’t too fussy. It’s a bar and grill, basically. Lots of sandwiches and fried things, cold beer, dollar bills stuck to the ceiling, taxidermy everything, and tourist and locals rubbing elbows and exchanging jokes. I’ve had some wonderful times here. On Thursday nights they usually do karaōke and it is a blast. We try to schedule our weekend in Groveland to make sure we arrive on Thursday so we can attend and horrify the locals with our singing voices. Can’t wait to come back!

The iron doors a great place to stop in for a good burger some drinks and some live music. They have an open mic night on Tuesday nights which is really cozy and features many local and faraway musicians. we always have a good time at the iron door

Our family always spends Labor Day weekend at our cabin in nearby Greeley Hill. All these years I have had kids so when everyone went into Groveland to drink my husband & I stayed behind with the kids. This year my kids are 18&16, so I took them with me. My husbands brothers and their significant others came too. Started with pitchers of IPA. Ordered kids the appetizer sampler. It was ok. nothing special, but they chowed down. We ordered burgers and subbed fries for onion rings for 2 bucks more. I am pretty sure my husband posted pictures of the food, I was busy drinking the second pitcher of beer, LOL. I think people come here mostly because of the fun atmosphere. There are dollar bills stuck to the ceiling everywhere. The food was good. The service was friendly. The beer was cold and plentiful! If your in Groveland, check it out.

Absolutely loved this place! I had been enjoying my trek through California, while vacationing with a friend and my girl(we are from Jersey), but could not figure out, for the life of me, what it was that was missing. We figured it out as soon as we walked into the Iron Door Saloon… we were missing a good old local drinking well! I felt right at home. Good music playing on the jukebox, friendly staff(thank you Rachel), and some tasty beer(I enjoyed the 805 light IPA)! The food was also good… got the bolognese with garlic bread. The onion rings were delicious too! I sat there thinking«I could totally live in this town», just because of the Iron Door. If you’re in the area, definitely check it out! Next time I hit Yosemite(and there will be a next time), I’m definitely stopping by this spot for some beer and food!

Drove a bus load of peeps here to party last night after a week camping Yosemite, cause that’s what I do. Geared up for some karaōke, it had been a couple years since my last appearance. The Iron Door does not fail! This place is epic. A mix of locals and tourists, and everyone having a great time. We sang and danced till late, the DJ is fair and lets all have a go, in a timely fashion. My set list was: Eighteen by Alice Cooper, Sweet Caroline by The Diamond, and Walk Like an Egyptian. I never made it to the requisite Pearl Jam, but oh well. We sang, and danced, and partied the night away with a kickin crowd vibe, the place was lit up, beautiful people everywhere totally enjoying each others company… my head was spinning, and I don’t even drink, mind you. This place has been around forever and I hope it stays that way. Makes me want to spend more time in Groveland. I’m not really a bar person, but I absolutely love the Iron Door. Major Props!

We came to visit Yosemite. Staying in the Berkshire Inn we decided to check out town for a quick bite to eat and a few drinks. This place is great! Small town feel with very nice locals. Michelle was a great bar tender. First night we ordered 4 beers and the chicken strips with Fries. $ 30 bucks! Great deal for amazing service. We liked it so much we came back again after a long day on Yosemite. Free Wifi also! We will be back next year and maybe sooner! A must go for the small town of Groveland!

I’ve heard good things about this place so I had to stop and try. The bar area is interesting. lot of things to look at. I stopped to get lunch. ordered a mushroom swiss burger and home made potato chips. I thought the hamburger was really good but a bit on the saltier side. The chips were really salty as well.

You have to stop at this place if you’re staying in or around Yosemite. It’s supposedly the oldest bar in California and it feels that way when you get in there. Dead animals hanging on the walls, a pool table in the back, and a stage up front for live music. We only stopped in for a couple drinks after a long day of hiking in Yosemite but if we weren’t so tired, I could have spent a solid six days inside of this bar. Decent tap selection including some locals. I had Snowshoe’s Grizzly Brown Ale; never had it prior and it was awesome. The fries and jalapeño poppers we ordered for the table were basic but good. To top it off, they have a great jukebox.

Entertaining place to stop on the way to Yosemite, what with all the hunting trophies and other wacky historical wall hangings. The saloon itself is still quite active, so if you’re having a daytime meal, you’ll also have to smile through the usual dried-beer scent that comes with all working bars. Our waitress was quite friendly and the food was just what you’d expect for a roadside bar and grill.

Best place in Groveland :) All the bartenders are great, my favorite happens to be Michelle. Her drinks are great, and she has the best personality of all bartenders I’ve met at any bar. Their burgers and fries with a nice cold one are good as well. Highly recommend stopping by!

Best Breakfast in Groveland! I didn’t even know they had a daily breakfast, but ordered a terrific omelet with home fries. Great menu, very affordable, and great service!

The décor alone is worth a trip to this historic saloon. I have been here a few times, and my young kids love the stuffed animal heads, the dollar bills on the ceiling, the pool table. The food is ok, with no frills. The service was friendly and fast.

A must-visit while in Groveland. Our drinks were poured with a heavy hand, the bartender was friendly as heck, and we got to mingle a bit with the locals. They also serve food which we missed out on cause we just ate, but it looked great — chips and dip, burgers, wings, etc. Made me wish we’d eaten here. Lots of photo opps too!

Oldest saloon in CA and one of the biggest glasses of wine I’ve gotten in CA! A winning combo! At first we were a little hesitant to stop in to what seemed to be a very ‘locals only’ bar, but not to worry, there were all types of people hanging out. We really liked the diver bar vibe, dollars on the ceiling, taxidermy on the walls, and giant fireplace in the corner. Bar tenders were decently friendly and my wine pour was huge. Our beer and house wine came out to $ 13. Would love to stop by on a night where they have Karaōke or local bands!

Going to be honest, we got some strange looks from a couple locals when we walked in here on our way from Yosemite to San Francisco. Sort of a «WHATINTARNATIONAREYOU, YOUAIN’T GOTNOBLONDEHAIR!”-type of look. Combined with the interior of the place, I immediately went into fight mode. Note that this is a standard fight-or-flight type reaction, except that I simply lack the«flight» part because of my giant balls. Luckily(for everybody else), things didn’t come to that. Turns out everybody is super friendly. Workers were super courteous, some of the [other] locals gave us friendly nods and smiles, and all was well. Except the food. It was all decent. Nothing spectacular. The french fries were the best thing, and even those were just okay at best. Not sure that you have many other good options in Groveland, and certainly none with the level of «character» that Iron Door Saloon has. Still, character alone doesn’t do enough to boost this one higher.

How can you give a saloon that has been«allegedly» in business since 1862 less than 4 stars??? I mean shit come on… the south was fighting the north. Grant was going to be president… Custer was still alive. Watch deadwood and you will see. Great bar with tons of personality. I do not understand the tradition of the dollars in the ceiling but followed the local custom. If you are heading to Yosemite or hetch hetchy stop by and grab a bite or a non alcoholic drink. You will feel like you’ve been in the wild wild west.
