I’m so happy they have opened the doors to their new place in Bargersville! Really cool setting and I can’t wait until it warms up a bit so we can enjoy the ample outdoor seating area. I went with a simple pulled pork sandwich with the Reverend Goben XXX sauce — perfect amount of heat! Corn casserole side is itself worth the trip.

We went downtown Thursday for the food trucks on Capitol. I choose to go to Johnson’s BBQ Shack. I got a pulled pork sandwich and had to throw most of it away because it was mostly fat. I should have taken it back up to them but the lines were too long to mess with. Now their sauces were pretty good. I had the tangy and the sweet. If I see their food truck/trailer again I will walk by.

Sometimes, it’s all about the food. I mean, sure, shiny restaurants and beautiful settings are all the rage but when you can rock my world with your food that becomes something special. This review is of the Johnson’s BBQ Shack food truck that made a stop at the Indiana Government Center during a recent Farmer’s Market that occurs each Thursday during lunch throughout the Summer season. You could have almost been forgiven for passing the truck or just completely ignoring it — it was located nearly at the end of one of the two rows of food trucks. To be completely honest, I was intending to stop at the Edward’s Drive-In truck but kept thinking to myself«I wanted something just a wee bit healthier» for this cherished weekly tradition as a State of Indiana employee. So, I wheeled by Edward’s and set my eyes on Johnson’s, a yellow food truck that isn’t the fanciest or the shiniest or the one with the most bells and whistles. Truthfully, I passed it a couple of times. Then, I stopped. Started by two brothers, I’m guessing their names are Johnson, Johnson’s BBQ Shack, is, you guessed it, a BBQ shack. Utilizing a variety of customized smokers, the Johnson’s smoke a variety of meats and they seem fairly open to requests from their catering customers. Of course, options include the usual such as brisket, chicken, ribs, and others. I’m unsure if their truck options vary, but their website notes that they can also smoke salmon, serve pulled pork, serve pulled chicken, serve a variety of dogs/brats, and serve up a variety of well-priced sides ranging from chips to slaw to potato salad, etc. I will admit that I’m not a complete expert when it comes to the BBQ/Pulled world. Despite my recent attendance at a Unilocal event centered around BBQ held at City Barbeque, my basic desire is to enjoy the food, be able to eat the food without humiliating myself(as a slightly spastic paraplegic), and to end my meal thinking«When can I have that again?» If those things are accomplished, then I’m pretty much a fan. You’d be amazed, especially in the world of BBQ, how often those things are not accomplished. Johnson’s BBQ Shack? Yep, I’m a fan. I ordered the Pulled Chicken sandwich with a bag of chips — looking back, I wish I’d sampled the slaw and will do so in the future. I believe my meal was $ 8(possibly $ 9 — I’m still in a Pulled Chicken glaze-over). It’s a good price for what proved to be a great sandwich. They serve up the meat without the sauces — allowing you to cater to your own taste with options such as tangy, spicy, mild, and one other. As this was my first time experiencing Johnson’s, I opted for the unthinkable and went without any of the sauces. While I will definitely try sauce the next time, I was in love with this sandwich from the first bite. The bun was a fairly standard bun, but it fit the sandwich nicely and the meat was packed perfectly. I get so tired of BBQ type sandwiches that fall apart or overwhelm the bun. This was perfect. The meat was a delight — every bite was perfectly textured and flavored. I did not order a drink from them since Mile Square Roastery was two trucks away and had my beloved iced tea. The only thing that keeps me from forking over the 5-star rating, which I’ve never given a food truck, is that such great meat kind of overwhelmed the fairly straightforward chip varieties — They were only $ 1 — so it was a good deal, but I just can’t get myself to equate it with what I would consider a 5-star option. It’s definitely 4-star — very good, very tasty, fairly priced, and the customer service was top notch. Who knows? Maybe once I sample the more traditional sides, that elusive 5-star might actually be dropped. I even appreciated their website — it’s simple, straightforward, yet has a nice emotional center to it with the four folks centrally involved with Johnson’s serving up bios that made me want to support them.

I got the salmon with artichoke and capers with no bun from the food truck and it was a healthy lunch and good size portion for $ 8. I get excited about food trucks with healthy non-salad options! I put zesty sauce on the smokey salmon which tastes pretty good. I also got slaw that was decent on top of the salmon and corn on the cob which was nothing special and had several hard kernels. But I will totally get the salmon again!

These guys are the best! We have ordered catering from them for a few different occasions for large groups(rehearsal dinner, work party, baby shower.). They are always very easy to work with for catering and their BBQ is AMAZING! We’ve had the brisket, chicken and pork — always smoked to perfection, true BBQ bliss. And don’t even get me started on their turkey legs(mouth waters) — so tender and tasty! Every time we host a party, our friends always ask when we’re going to get the best BBQ in town again :-). Definitely our favorite food truck in town!

While I have never tried the food truck(therefore can’t speak on customer service), some close friends had Johnson’s BBQ cater their rehearsal dinner for their wedding. They had beef brisket, pork, and I feel like maybe baked beans… and maybe another side. I was drinking and it was a while ago. I do remember, though, that the meats were really really good. Juicy, well seasoned, smokey, and overall fantastic. The sauces had a good range from tangy sweet to spicy. I would definitely recommend this place if you are wanting tubs of some delicious BBQ for an event.

Okay, so my last review of Johnson’s BBQ Shack wasn’t all that spectacular, although it represented my honest opinion of my food. Since I posted my review, they have reached out to me on several occasions for me to come back and try them again. The level of customer service they have displayed has been absolutely outstanding, and for that reason, I’ll be looking for them again soon to try again. More businesses should pay attention to social media as much as these guys do… and respond to it as they do. I’m very impressed!

I had the pleasure of smelling their food truck as I left the office last week — I had planned on eating somewhere else, but one whiff of their smoked pulled pork goodness changed my mind. for $ 7 I got a sandwich loaded with meat — and they have 3 options of bbq sauce, so there’s something for everyone. My co-worker mentioned that he’s not a huge pulled pork fan, and he really enjoyed it too. I hope they return to Meridian and New York soon! Thanks guys!

Johnson’s BBQ Shack provided the food for our wedding and were able to get delicious food for 100 people at a very reasonable price! We had pulled pork BBQ, cole slaw & beans and our guests asked about where to get it again! Perfect!

A great new food truck with attached smoker. The pulled pork was a generous serving. The meat was tender and lean. The spicy bbq sauce is HOT, but good. The mild is also good and will save your taste buds from burn out. I’m not a Carolina mustard fan, but according to hubby, they did it well. The sandwich was $ 6, which is reasonable for what you get. Free smells and it smells like pork heaven!
