Tried this new place for lunch. Staff was friendly but a bit slow, unfocused and not overly friendly. Working the kinks out I guess. The Tar Heels were playing basketball and I asked if they could turn one of the TVs to the game. The guy at the counter said«We can’t. We aren’t allowed to change the channel.» Really? Is this corporate policy or something? We were forced to watch bowling while we ate our subs. The subs were okay, nothing special. A good dose of one of the hot sauces offered helped the flavor though. They have a ton to choose from and they are labeled from 1 – 10 in heat level. Pretty cool. May go back but prefer other sub shops in the area.

New location and very clean which is why I I think it earned its two stars. I couldn’t rate it any higher because I waited 17 minutes for my sandwich to be made(and they weren’t that busy). It was first time ever to a Firehouse Subs and I asked for some help but very little was explained to me about how to order, options, etc. After I got my sandwich home, I opened it up and it was soggy, fell apart, and had barely any thing in it. I even asked to make sure it would be toasted, I can’t imagine it was. I’m disappointed by this experience and it was not worth my money. I’ll gladly take my business to Which Wich or Jersey Mikes any day!

As a chile and hot sauce lover, Firehouse has been one of my favorite places to eat since a fellow chilehead introduced me to them many years ago in Myrtle Beach. Their hot sauce bar includes everything from mild to insanity type sauces that only require a drop to blow your tongue off. Owned by firefighters and former firefighters, every location has a similar firehouse theme with memorabilia and artwork to match. The menu is reminiscent of Northern grinders and deli-style sandwiches, though a special advertised a Smokehouse brisket sub. They use premium meats and cheese with«oversized portions» for a gourmet sub according to their advertisement, more on that later. This is fairly a new location which is spotless and shiny with employees cleaning, sweeping and straightening things up when not serving customers. The service was outstanding, my order was done quickly and the staff seemed happy to be there and very cheerful and polite. 5 stars for service and looks. They have one of those new soda machines with the 4 million combinations that’s always fun to play with, but peach and lemonade don’t go well I found out. They have Lay’s chip products along with Sun Chips and my favorite Miss Vickie’s Kettle chips. I’ve always liked the taste of the sandwiches, which used to be big, meaty and substantial. Lately though, you can barely find any meat and the only thing over-sized is the sub roll. This is really evident in the sandwich that I like, The New York Steamer, which is just pastrami, corned beef and provolone cheese with no veggie toppings. The taste is great, both meats were very flavorful and the cheese was creamy and a bit salty like good provolone should be. However, at $ 10 for a sandwich, bag of chips and a drink it’s a very poor value. Compared to how high the meat is stacked at a place like Jason’s Deli, it’s far from ‘oversized’ or ‘piled high’. I realize that’s a corporate decision above the heads of the crew making the sandwich or franchisee, but it just looks cheap. I think I would make the bread smaller and thinner so the same amount of meat makes you think you have something, but I don’t own a successful sandwich chain so whaddaiknow?

Firehouse always has good food. What made me write the review is the super nice staff. In fact they accidentally overcharged our family. My wife didn’t realize it and so we sat down. The owner or manager brought me change over to say they had overcharged. We would have never known. Integrity. Doing what’s right when no one is looking. We will certainly be back. Did I also say the meal was great.
