Great thin crust pizza at a great price. Sauce is nice and sweet. Can’t beat the 99 cent lunch special for pepperoni or deluxe. The place is really popular at lunch time so sometimes they run out of pre-made pizza. It is about a eight minute wait while they make more.

I love the pizza here. I don’t get to have it often but when I do I savor every bite. Cheese bread and a bacon pizza make for a good night. The blend of spices in the crust makes the last bit of each slice like an Italian breadstick. The sauce is a sweet/savory mix that will satisfy any pizza fanatic. I can’t wait until The next time I dial and hear«Hello! Palermo’s! How can I help you!?»

On May 16, 2010(Sunday), I(my girlfriend and I) stayed at the Best Western Beacon Inn in Grand Haven, Michigan. I looked in their«Beacon Inn Guest Directory» to see what they considered as convenient food options. Mancino ======= I found Mancino on the first page of the directory(13040US Hwy 31 — 616−844−5566). There were no published hours of operation. After I looked at their menu on the internet( ) and was ready to order, I was greeted with a phone message stating they were closed. Conclusion —– My dietary needs did not integrate with this business’ business model. Pizza Hut ========= My second consideration was Pizza Hut. But I can get their menu fare anywhere in the United Stated. They also don’t have salads. Conclusion —– My dietary needs did not integrate with this business’ business model. Palermo ======= My third choice was Palermo Pizza(1125 So. Beacon Blvd, Grand Haven, Michigan). I called to find out if they were open and delivered to the Best Western. Yes, to both. During the call, I was never asked if we wanted to charge the order on my credit card(always my preference). Here is what I expected to pay, based on prices on Palermo’s web site( ): Greek Salad — $ 4.99 Grilled Chicken Salad — $ 5.99 12″ Super Deluxe pizza — $ 13.49 12″ Veggie pizza — $ 11.49 Total: ** $ 35.96 **
(NOTE: In the«beacon Inn Guest Directory», the Palermo web site address is published as ‘www.palermo/pizza.com’, but it should be ‘www.palermo-pizza.com’) About 50 minutes after ordering, the delivery person knocked on our motel room door. A woman handed me a Greek Salad(correct). She handed me two pizzas(correct). She said the person who took the order wasn’t sure if we ordered the ‘Grilled Chicken Salad’($ 5.99) or the ‘Salad, with chicken’($ 7.99), so she brought both. I told her I ordered the ‘$ 5.99 grilled chicken’. That is what she handed me. She said the total charge was ** $ 42.24 **. I asked her to itemize the costs because the difference between her and my calculation was $ 6.28. She said there was a $ 2 deliver fee(that was never communicated during the ordering process). Reluctantly, subtract $ 2 to get a discrepancy of $ 4.28. Even though they gave me the $ 5.99 grilled chicken’, they charged me for the $ 7.99 ‘salad, with chicken’. Reluctantly, subtract $ 2 to get a discrepancy of $ 2.28.(That amount was never reconciled.) I asked the delivery person if she would take a credit card for payment. She said they only do that for orders over the phone(that’s how we ordered, but we were not given the option to use that payment method). The only other option was cash. That put me on the spot. I only had $ 40 in my wallet. I had to yell to my girlfriend(who was in the bathroom at the time) where her wallet was so I could find more cash. I ended up giving the delivery person $ 50, which in my calculation, amounted to a $ 14.04 tip(33%). The delivery person left not showing any sign of appreciation for the business transaction. She was unprepared to answer questions. Even hours after the interaction, I am troubled by what transpired. Now, about the food. The salads were bland. The crust of the pizzas were undercooked and soggy. The toppings did not look, or taste like real food. There was so much sodium applied that the flavor of the toppings was lost. This was some of the worst pizza I have ever eaten in my 49 years of existence! This experience explains why I will never do business with Palermo Pizza or its subsidiaries in the future. Summary ======== The order-taker caused an awkward business transaction between the customer and delivery personnel due to: * Inadequate verification of the order * Lack of communication of delivery charge * Lack of communication of payment options The delivery person failed for the following reasons: * Did not adequately explain the total charges * Did not leave customer with confidence to engage in future business transactions The vendor failed for the following reasons: * Product visual appeal, taste and consistency was inadequate Conclusion —– My dietary needs did not integrate with this business’ business model.
