Cafe BBQ Chicken & Beer

I’ve been to the BBQ Chicken in Diamond Barrio and I actually liked this one in Garden Grove better. I love KFC aka Korean fried chicken. it’s cooked fresh and fried twice so it’s extra crispy the way I prefer it, but that’s why there’s a long wait time about 15 minutes for my olive chicken lunch special.
Very nice atmosphere bumpin light kpop and attentive staff when I first walked in I thought I had to pay at the counter but the waiter let me know to grab a seat after I wanted to dine in. There’s happy hours also where the beer is 99 cents good deal, so this café is suited more for a date or groups that wanna drink with their chicken. There’s spicy rice cakes, waffle fries, and other drinking foods on the menu.
So definitely call ahead of time if you don’t wanna wait or have a large order to go. It can be a bit pricey but the lunch special for $ 7 includes a house salad and fried or white rice. Well worth it because it came out delicious. There’s a variety of wings or regular sized chicken.
I enjoyed my quick lunch over here and I’ll be back when I’m in Garden Grove.

BBQ Chicken & Beer vs. Pizza & Chicken Love Letter: FIGHT!
Pickled radish: BBQ Chicken easily wins. The radish at Love Letter is half vinegar; the radish here is sweet on the palate (not to mention consumable).
Salad: tie. I love all Korean rabbit food that’s been drenched in fat.
Chicken: tie. Honestly, both places serve up some juicy, fresh chicken. We came to BBQ Chicken with a
certificate, so we ended up ordering:
— Double Crunch Chicken Wings: these pack some serious punch. We didn’t expect them to be so spicy – just extra crunchy. But by my second wing, I was grabbing for my (empty) cup of water. Yummy, though. I would definitely order again.
— Olive Oil Fried Chicken: it was rather bland in flavor and sadly our least favorite of the night. I much prefer Love Letter’s version to this one, as theirs tastes more savory.
— Honey Bee Chicken: crunchy and sweetened with a light touch of real honey. Bee-​licious. (Sorry.)
Service and Preparation: Love Letter wins by a landslide. We went to BBQ Chicken at 8ish when there was only one other occupied table in the entire vicinity. It took them over TWO HOURS to to serve us our food! Uh… what? It’s fried chicken, people! Why in the world are you bringing out our dishes in 30-​minute intervals? And completely forgetting our waffle fries? Come on. –3 stars just for this bullshit.
BONUS ROUND – Restaurant names: tie. They both equally suck in their unoriginality.
Winner: Love Letter. Because fried chicken shouldn’t take 2 fucking hours. At least Love Letter gets me my entire meal in 15 minutes or less.

This BBQ restaurant is nicer than the one in Buena Park/​Fullerton because it’s a bit larger and I like that there are multiple TV’s here to watch. The service at lunch was a bit slow but I think the server was brand new & was learning the ropes so we will let it slide this time. =)
BBQ has changed a bit since I’ve last eaten at one. There are definitely more menu items to choose from but even with the increase in choices, I still like the originals.
They have lunch specials but honestly, the amount of food you get at lunch would barely feed a child. You’re probably better off ordering «a la carte.» On this first visit in Garden Grove, we decided to try new items so we ordered the wings of fire & herb marinated chicken off the lunch menu and the grilled Turkish-​marinated wings.
Apparently the «wings of fire» are supposed to be the hottest wings they have but they’re not really hot at all. I was not a fan of the sauce — these would be «hot» for someone who can only handle mild levels of heat. The fried potato sticks they come with are actually sweet potato fries. They were ok but a bit overcooked. The herb marinated chicken was like false advertising. On the menu, the chicken looks like it’s roasted & is chicken on the bone. What we got was some dried out strips of chicken that were grilled. The portion size is way too small. The waffle fries it came with were just ok.
The grilled wings with Turkish seasoning were decent but they put a sort of hot sauce on top of them and I did not like the sauce. On the menu, they don’t show any sauce on them but when they serve it to you, it looks completely different. Personally, I’m not a fan of extra sauce on foods… if it’s on the side, that’s fine but drizzling all of your food with sauce makes me feel like you’re trying to hide the true flavor of the food sometimes.
Overall, it was just an ok experience. The best chicken to order (in my opinion) would be the teri wings, the double crunch wings (used to known as BB wings) and the olive oil chicken. I wish their grilled options were better but if in the mood for some good fried chicken, I’d still go to BBQ.

Huge fan because they’re open late!
Teri-​waltz chicken wings are so good. They double deep fry it making it extra crispy and huge like its on steroids. The calamari is so good, but so little. Free Cabbage salad with thousand island dressing. They have this spicy ketchup/​bbq dipping sauce, which goes well with my wings and calamari. :)

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but apparently Koreans love chicken wings. I KNOW! SHOCKING! Hahaha. Not really. Koreans have a great love for snacking, and snacking for a meal is no different. This is why chicken wings are highly beloved by the Korean nation. So, heading into a the Korean District of Garden Grove, you’d have to know you’d find something good. Well, I found it here.
DECO/​ATMOSPHERE: 4 stars
We came here during the afternoon, right at opening time. Apparently, the worker didn’t realize it was opening time so we wandered around for 15 minutes before we headed back to see if they were open. Once we came in, the place was beautifully decorated. It looked like all the cafes you would see in Korean dramas. It had earth tones, with wood being used predominately as the deco material followed with green and white hues. It gives off a very clean look, and I can only imagine how fun the place would be at night when it’s packed. Definitely designed with both efficiency and aesthetics in mind.
SERVICE: 3 stars
I don’t want to lower the service too much because there was only one worker when we came in, and she was doing both the serving AND the cooking. We waited a bit for our food to come out, obviously because she was making it fresh in the back, as well as juggling new orders from other people coming in. Although we were the only people dining in, we waited a good 15 minutes before our food came out. Still, that’s pretty great for just one person working everything. She was friendly, spoke both English and Korean, and was receptive to our needs.
FOOD: 3 stars
I want to give the food a higher rating, but I was mixed in my reaction to how I liked it. There were some that I absolutely loved, while others I didn’t really enjoy, especially the longer I ate them.
Here are the things I loved:
— Teri Waltz Wings: this is their signature wing dish, with a sauce that gives plenty of color and flavor without drowning in sauce. A hint of honey, sesame seeds, brown sugar, soy sauce, and syrup runs through this puppy, and it sure can bite.
— Mad Garlic Wings: these things taste even better the day after. Crispy, crunchy, juicy chicken with an explosion of garlic in each bite. They are coated with freshly minced garlic, but won’t kill your mouth.
— Waffle Fries: man, they were amazing. Think of the fantastic waffle fries you can order at Carl’s Jr, then multiply them. They were simple, but just so good. Couldn’t stop munching on these things.
— Free Korean salad and pickled radishes: these are the ultimate compliments to chicken wings. I freaking love them and they are refillable, for FREE!
Things I could have lived without:
— Olive Chicken: the chicken was good, as well as the crunch. But the olive oil they use to cook the chicken became too overbearing for me the longer I ate it. It left a strange after taste that I didn’t appreciate.
— Royal ddok bokki: This is a sweet version of regular ddok bokki, so instead of hot and intense, you get a strange sweet, mild flavor. Didn’t care for it too much and actually ended up not eating more than a few bites.
There were a few things that weren’t available on the menu, although it looked delicious, as some other Unilocalers have mentioned in previous reviews. I hope that changes. The sandwiches and burgers look pretty amazing.
Also, they have beers by the pitcher and meal deals for parties of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 people, making it easier for those who run with an ambivalent group.
CONCLUSION
This place has a good mix of everything that invites everyone to come and enjoy the libations. Delicious Korean style wings are served along with other Korean style dishes, the setting is perfectly balanced between trendy and clean, and the location is excellent. I definitely will come back here to invite friends to drink and eat on a Friday night. You should too. Just remember to take advantage of the
certificates you can purchase beforehand.

My friends and I bought the
certificate for $ 4 for $ 50! Amazing right? Gotta search the internet for those codes! We had to spend $ 100 to get $ 50 off. Easy.
Service is as slooowww as ever. It was a Thursday night and our party was pretty much the only one there when we began to order. There’s only one guy doing everything, and it’s not just that the place is understaffed… he’s just really slow. It took him 30 minutes to get our drinks. He didn’t know how to change the channels on the tv either. Plates come out one at a time. so it becomes like a tasting rather than a meal.
ORDER:
— Teri Waltz Wings — One of my favorite wings that night. Teriyaki sauce was very good.
— Istanbul Grilled Chicken Wings — a slight savory, sweet and spicy flavor. The spicy kick sneaks up on you. My second favorite!
— Buffalo Wings — the usual. nothing to wow you really, but pretty good.
— Spicy Dduck Bokki — not too spicy rice dough pieces. We finished the plate
PASS:
— Wings of Fire — a word of warning, your mouth will be on fire. seriously.
— Honey Bee Wings — way too sweet and they gave us pieces that weren’t even wings!!! I had no idea what part of the chicken it was.
— Wings of Sweet Angels — eh. unmemorable.
— Calamari — tiny tiny TINYYYYY pieces. Use your index finger and touch it to your thumb. See that circle you just made? The pieces are smaller than that. Way smaller. And you get no more than 8 pieces.
— Cabbage salad — what a weird tasting dressing. I’d pass.
Not sure if I’d return. I don’t think I’d pay full price to come here. Two of my friends had food poisoning the next day. =/​And no, they don’t have the buy one pitcher of beer get the second one for $ 0.99 anymore.

Just got back from this place. Straight up awesome. I’m never going to hooters or bww again. This place blows them out of the water. Not sure about the other locations, but this one is great. The staff is super nice, they stayed open late so we could finish our food with no rush. I’ve never even seen wings the size of the wings we got here, the were enormous. We got the fire wings which were breaded and absolutely delicious, and the Istanbul wings which weren’t breaded but just as delicious and the flavors were so different and good. This place is family run and I’m a fan of going anywhere that’s family run. Who wouldn’t want to support someone that’s trying to make the American dream happen? I will def be going back to this place, I’m really interested in trying the waffle sandwiches.
So yeah if you want great wings and a really decent price, 10 wings is 10 $ and unless you’re a bottomless pit of a human being, this will be well more than enough. Go here and eat.
Oh yeah and like any good Korean spot, you get some froyo at the end. Perfect.

We came in with no idea of what we wanted. The menu offered a large selection of good eats accompanied by some food porn. Oh my, pictures galore! Everything looked delicious, but we decided to go with the following:
+ Wings of Teri Waltz — This was labeled as «recommended.» Great recommendation because this ended up to be our favorite! It’s covered in their house special teriyaki sauce and garlic. The batter is out-​of-​this-​world perfect. *wipes drool*
— Sweet Spicy Chicken — Sweet, yes. Spicy, NO! Result = Sweet Chicken. I was really looking forward to this, but it disappointed. Note: (5) pieces looked like (10) because they cut it up into pieces.
+ Waffle Fries — The typical waffle fries. Well seasoned. Nothing spectacular.
— Calamari — We could have gone without. My PIFC (partner in food crime) thought they were onions rings… well, they did look like onions rings. I thought it was overcooked so it was tough in texture.
Free cabbage salad with their house dressing. Free pickled daikon.
+ Service — Our waitress was attentive and did her job. She had good timing.
Good beer specials. Maybe they should have TVs (I think they had one) and play football during football season. Chicken & Beer + Football = WIN. It would be a good place to cater to that type of idea.

Well, I still prefer Love Letter.
The restaurant feels like I’ve stepped into a boba shop. The décor is quite contemporary and hip. The olive oil fried chicken is supposed to be good — I never got to have any because they ran out when I went.
This was Saturday lunch hour.
I liked what I saw on the menu so far — I just didn’t get a chance to really sample their chicken, that’s all. I’ll be back and will update when I’ve actually had the chicken.

I have mixed feelings about this place for many reasons so this review will just have to be one of those Pros vs. Cons list:

— Service is UBER slow. I mean seriously may be an issue. The bf and I dined for a total of about 2 hours. We came into the restaurant and went unnoticed for at least 15 minutes before the one lady that was working there realized we were inside and came to try to give us a menu that we already found. Each dish came out at least 15 minutes apart from each other and we ordered a total of 5 dishes.

I’ll have to give it a 2-​star rating since I’ve eaten at a BBQ Chicken & Beer (I think) in Buena Park and it was much more efficient. Though the chicken/​food itself warrants a 4 star on flavor.

Can we all say «CHICK-​CHICK-​CHICK»…
That’s what this place screams… all about the CHICKENS! I’ve only tasted their wings from co-​workers bringing it back to the office so we decided to see what all the hype was about.
Here’s our order:
01. Cabbage Salad — 2.5 Stars — Complimentary
— Sliced up cabbage with Thousand Island dressing. They might call it something else but it sure tasted like it. It was decent, just not too memorable.
02. Half order Green Onion Topping Chicken ($ 12.95) — 4 Stars
— First of all, the half portion was enough to feed 2 – 4 people depending how much your buddies can eat. All girls, DEF can share by 4 people. The green onions layed so beautifully on top of the cut up chicken tenders and lightly drenched with their amazing sauce. I couldn’t make out the sauce but it was a little sweet, tangy and light. It wasn’t too salty at all. This was really good as the hot chicken tenders warmed the green onions. Such great flavors that made it a great dish.
03. Double Crunch Wings ($ 8.95) — 4 Stars
— Holy crap… when they said «HOT», they were NOT kidding. These crunchy wings were crunchy and so full of extreme HEAT, not spicy, just so freaking HOT. We wanted awhile for it to cool down but NO LUCK. Finally after about 15 – 20 mins… it was still HOT but manageable. I took my 1^st bit into the meat and it was so good. It comes with 2 sauces… SUPER SPICY and REGULAR. Everything they do here is SUPER… either SUPER SPICY or SUPER HOT. Today was hot too so it sure didn’t help us cool down. More water PLEASE! Very crunchy, very good and very NOT GREASY. We realized after eating this half way, that the wings were nowhere greasy at all. They claim that it’s the Olive Oil they cook with that makes it light and not oily. AMAZING CHICK I must say.
NOTE:
BEER PROMOTION — Last month they had 99 Cents pitchers… how is that possible right but they truly did have it. Currently the promo they have now is a new one… Buy 1 and get the 2^nd pitcher of beer for 99 Cents.
DECOR — Very clean, cool vibe, I think I saw 2 TVs running.
STAFF — One woman show… she was so nice and attentive.
VERDICT — We will come back to try some of their other specialties.

This aint your typical BBQ joint. Its the Best of the Best Quality! So says the restaurant.
Had eaten here a few weeks ago and just went back again the other night for a take out. Both times I ordered the Olive chicken. I’ve also had the mad garlic wings, chicken strips, waffle fries, calamari and garden salad. They have a pretty good menu selection from chicken to burgers and alcoholic beverages and looking through the menu is great as they have pictures.
First off let me say that your first pitcher of beer is just $ 1. You cant beat that!
The Olive Chicken is their signature chicken.
The breading is very very light almost like it has no coating. The chicken was of good size and is fried in 100% Olive Oil. My first bite into this tasty chicken was that it was juicy. Granted I only eat dark meat and they are always more moist then white meat. I also noticed a slight sweet taste. Im not sure if its part of the seasoning or if its from frying in the olive oil. The chicken also has a very light seasoning with a little spice that you can taste at the very end of your chewing process. Very delish chicken. I would like it to have a bit more seasoning but its good.
The Mad Garlic Wings
has some serious pungent garlicky goodness! Its wings tossed in chopped fresh garlic. I luv the amount of garlic its tossed in but the wings could have used a bit more seasoning.
Calamari was bit of a joke. The pic in the menu is very misleading and I have nothing more to say about it. I was disappointed in this dish.
The garden salad is your typical salad.
Any order over $ 20 gets you 2 chicken stips and waffle fries. Well hot damn how awesome is that. Both were really tasty. The waffle fries are huge!
I luv me some fried chicken. As mentioned I prefer a more seasoned chicken but this place frys it up fresh, light and crisp. Thats a good deal for me!

Had gone here a couple weeks ago with the bf. There was a special for $ 1 the first pitcher of beer. I personally don’t favor beer but it’s a GREAT deal AND it was entertaining watching the bf finish an entire pitcher all by himself. Tehehehe
TERI WALTZ WINGS: I really enjoyed these wings. I don’t really care what the batter is. All I care about is that it tasted bomb and I loved it!
MAD GARLIC WINGS: basically chicken wings with loads and LOADS of chopped garlic on top… hence MAD GARLIC WINGS… but the taste just left me unsatisfied. I didn’t care much for it and neither should you =P
OLIVE CHICKEN: extra juicy, crispy, crunchy and hot! I don’t mean spicy hot but right-​off-​the-​fryer hot! Good stuff.
Two major factors that ALL the wings share is that (1) they’re NOT oily and (2) they’re NOT dry

As for the service – a bit slow. It took awhile to get their attention but when we were finally able to flag one down they were still very hospitable and not at all rude or irritated that we kept asking for refills or what not.
This is a pretty chill/​decent/​reasonably priced Korean fried chicken joint and I’m glad they opened one near the bf’s place. Will be coming here more often.

I don’t understand the reviews here. the food was pretty good when I ate here. Maybe because I was starving but it was pretty good. Almost as good as Chicken Love letter without the super long waits and small tables.
This place is pretty new and modern. Tables and chairs are comfy.
Also for the July special is only $ 1 for a pitcher of beer. Of course we got the Blue Moon. YAY! I was very very happy. I wish they would extend the special. I would come here more often.
We ordered the Half and Half with waffle fries. The chicken was yummy! It came out PIPING hot! Almost burned my fingers lol! the Spicy and sweet was good. the sauce was perfect for me. Not too spicy and not too sweet.
If you spend more then $ 20 you get free waffle fries and chicken strips but you have to ask for it. They won’t give it to you unless you ask. Which really bugged me. It was actually on their togo menu but they don’t really advertise it. The chicken strips were pretty good. Not dry at all. I liked it.
The bill came out to less then $ 30 for 4 people and we were SUPER stuffed. It was pretty cheap if you go with a group of people but if you go with about two people it seems a bit expensive. so groups are good!
Would I come back? Maybe depends if they bring back the special! $ 1 Blue Moon Pitchers are the BEST in the world!

Fresh food… slow service. Came here this afternoon for lunch. It was really modern inside and clean. We were seated immediately because it wasn’t busy at all. The menu was easy to order from with pictures for all the items. The service was really not attentive though. We would have to flag down the waitress to help us out and even then she’d forget.
Olive chicken — It was extra crispy and burning hot with white meat. The fried skin was really tasty. My fingers still feel the burn from eating this.
Wings on fire: These wings were delicious! The spicy sauce on top was sweet with a spicy sting. Came out fresh and hot like everything else.
Cabbage salad: An overly watered down cabbage with some thousand island on top. It was not something I’d ever volunteer to eat.
Spicy duck bokki: Rice cake with duck, veggies and spicy sauce. The rice cake was too chewy and the duck was gamey.
Onion Strings: The order listed said onion strings and came out as tempura onion rings. We had to ask the waitress if she did the order wrong and she said no. It was nothing like the picture but it was good nonetheless.
Good chicken and promotional 99cent beer pitcher for the month. Expect to have some bad and slow service.
Recommendation: Wings on fire, olive chicken and onion rings.

Amazing!!!
I was cruising through Unilocal on my phone for something tasty to eat that was close to the house and that would satiate my fried chicken craving… then I saw it: $ 0.99 pitcher of beer at Café BBQ Chicken and Beer!
The interior is modern and clean, even the menus were nice. The service was great (Hi Chan!) and the food… oh the food.
We went in and took a table to the side. Our waiter brought us menus and asked if we needed any help. I guess we looked a little out of place ;) We picked out the Half & Half for $ 18.95. It came with a free salad and a cup of some kind of pickled something. The salad was shredded cabbage with a dressing that reminded me of ketchup and mayo mixed together. It was actually refreshing. I was a little nervous that the chicken was going to be a small serving but I was so wrong!
Half & Half is literally a whole chicken: 5 pieces of the Sweet and Spicy and 5 of the original Olive chicken. Dustin and I were instantly impressed with the olive oil frying method and we felt it gave the chicken and the batter an excellent flavor. The chicken itself was super juicy and flavorful and the breading didn’t slip off like a soggy sack of bread crumbs. These guys have it right because when we mentioned we found them on Unilocal our waiter told the kitchen and they made the Sweet and Spicy SPICY… I was sweating! The sauce was a rich red color and a bit sticky with crushed walnuts sprinkled over the top. The Olive chicken had the perfect crunch and was delicious and comforting at the same time. It also came with another serving of the cabbage salad.
Let’s not ignore the fact that when we asked for a pitcher of beer on the $ 0.99 special his reply was «We only have Blue Moon and Sam Adams.» Wait, I’m getting a pitcher of Sam or Blue Moon for a buck?! Sam please! Dustin and I both filled our mugs three times, so don’t be afraid that you will be skimped because it’s a special. As soon as we had run out room in our bellies Chan came back out to tell us that any order $ 20+ gets free chicken tenders and waffle fries. He ended up bringing these out to us boxed to go because we were so full. We finished our beers and he brought out a perfectly portioned cup of berry frozen yogurt.

I’ve been sad that the original restaurant had been closed for time (formerly known as Olive Chicken and Grill). When I drove by and saw that something was opened in it’s place, I wanted to check it out.
Just as the previous restaurant, it was a bit slow (on a Sunday evening). We were seated promptly and I noticed that the restaurant had a huge facelift since I last was here. It had a clean, modern look to it, with brown, white, and green hues. I liked it, it was quite inviting. The menu was quite extensive, offering things beyond chicken (such as sandwiches, an array of sidedishes, and some Korean specialties). It was off putting that there were some things with stickers on them (misprints or not yet available).
We ordered half the Olive Chicken and half of the sweet and spicy chicken which is covered in peanuts (10 pc for $ 17.95). We were treated with the traditional coleslaw typically served with Korean chicken. A few moments later, the waiter brought out complementary chicken strips and waffle fries (I’m glad the waffle fries made an appearance as I was semi-​craving some kind of starch in the meal). Once these were devoured our chicken goodness came out. The chicken was delicious. I prefer the olive chicken to the saucy chicken, you appreciate the flavor of the olive oil and who doesn’t love to hear that sound of the crunchy batter in your mouth. Bah, it was so delicious! I was pleased to see that they actually gave us more than 10 pieces!
As if the night couldn’t get better, did I mention the 99 cent beer??? OMG, what a steal this was. They have Sam Adams, Heineken, Blue Moon and Coors Light available. I’m not sure if they have a limit on the beer but I will definitely be back even if it is limit 1. They came out with frosty mugs to keep our drinks cold. Keep in mind that this promotion is slated to end at the end of the month.
And lastly, I was completely floored at the fact they offered tart plain yogurt at the end. This really helped counterbalance all of the deep fried goodness earlier in the meal. It really helped me feel a lot better by the end of the meal, and I just love this kind of yogurt.
All of this, plus an atmosphere to have a great conversation only came out to a mere $ 21. That is insane in this day in age. What a great deal for all teh food and drinks we got! I will definitely be back, most likely before July 31: P — Great service here too!

Woohoo a new Korean chicken place. I was going to have some KBBQ but went here instead.
The grand opening was almost 3 weeks ago according to the worker. The place was empty when we go there. Wait a minute… this is BBQ Chicken. I asked if it’s the same as KTown and Buena Park BBQ Chicken and she said yes. Then I saw that there were reviews from this place and they were from last year. I mentioned it to the worker and she said it’s a new restaurant now. They changed the name even though they were still a part of BBQ Chicken. New ownership, new management and new name.
So here’s my ftr.
I learned my lesson the hard way. Always order its regular olive fried chicken and nothing else. So that’s what I ordered. Just that and steamed rice. I didn’t like its BBQ chicken even though that’s the name of the restaurant. Then I saw $.99 promotional beer and ordered that too. I thought I was getting just a glass of beer but no… it was a pitcher of beer. I had the option of Sam Adams, Blue Moon, Coors Light or Heineken. They were kinda stingy with the rice. My rice bowl wasn’t full. I am Asian… gimme rice.
There was K-​pop was playing in the background and 2 TVs showing sports channel. The restroom was clean but it’s kinda weird because the drain was taped with a giant scotch tape type material. Customers started to come in and it was pretty packed by the time I finished my meal.
The chicken itself was exactly the same as BBQ Chicken @ KTown. I wish it was a little bit better like the one in Buena Park but it’s still good.

BBQ Chicken’s Olive Fried Chicken is yummylicious!

Came here for dinner with a friend. Had the half regular, half spicy chicken special ($ 18.99).
Tasty chicken. Not greasy or oily like Popeye’s or KFC. Could get more meat at those places for the price however it wouldn’t be as good.
I’ll go back if I’m in the area and have a craving …
