A friend highly recommended this place on the Island. So we went with friends for a Valentine’s celebration dinner. early reservations, so the palce was quiet and serene like when we arrived. By the time it packed up… it was very loud. Note that it gets almost too loud for a decent dinner conversation once it gets filled up. A lovely space and a nice place for a date. Service: Fantastic. Our server was funny, helpful, on top of things and pleasant. She was not very good at recommending stuff from the menu. She said she liked to take sauces from one dish and put on another and make up her own meals from the menu. So she didn’t have«favorite». Ok, that’s cool. She let us do a little of that on our dishes as well. Food: Best dish of the night? Avocado Pancakes($ 9.95) Three super fluffy pancakes with a hint of avocado topped with pico de gallo and lump crab. Get these and then have a glass of wine(very slim choices by the glass) and be done. Wife had the M&M Classic($ 17.95) Linguine in a creamy burre blanc with bacon, tomatoes, capers and lump crab. It was — dare I say — almost too smokey bacony flavored for my taste. And once it cooled off it got solid as concrete. It was a big ol’ bowl though. I had the Diablo Snapper($ 28.95) Blackened snapper with a creamy cajun crawfish sauce. The sauce had some surprising kick. The fish was cooked perfect too. If it had been a redfish it might have been better. But this was tasty. Not $ 30 tasty but tasty. Make sure to get the scalloped potatoes. They were creamy delicious home made little gems. Beer and cocktails. Only 8 choices for wine by the glass.(Sad face.) But their wine list was varied and I recognized many wines I would have loved to have enjoyed with my meal. It was a nice change of pace from the seawall places. But we’ll keep looking for tother options on the Island for meals outside of the touristy areas.

Good food! Reasonable prices! Came here for lunch when I was in G-town and this was the most appealing place based on my Unilocal search. We started with the Spinach crab dip. I could have just had that for lunch. It was so rich, but delicious. Then I had the fish tacos which tasted fresh and spicy. I loved them. My friend got the avocado pancakes and some fried asparagus. The pancakes were weird but good… just used to having a sweet pancake so it freaked me out that they were more savory! The fried asparagus was also good but the size of those asparagus spears scared me! They were prehistoric looking or maybe from a place with a recent radioactive meltdown. Tasty but ginormously scary. Service was good and the place was very clean. I liked it!

No Sam Adams, no Strohs, no turkey for sandwiches, wait staff offered us key lime pie on the house and… wait for it… they are out of key lime pie! Philly Cheese Steak sandwich was good and they seemed to have plenty of water, but stingy on the ice.

Stopped in at the last minute for dinner as our first choice was packed from the Mardi Gras crowd. We arrived around 8:30 on a Friday night and were seated immediately as there was no wait. The waitress brought us bread with honey butter and we perused the menus. Other Unilocalers recommended the avocado pancakes as an appetizer, so we decided to try them out. For about $ 12, you get four small avocado pancakes topped with pico, lump crab and an amazing sauce drizzled on top. I’m not a crab person, but the pancakes were delicious! I’m definitely going to try and make them at home! I ordered the bourbon chicken. It was a large split chicken breast topped with a bourbon sauce and mushrooms. It was accompanied with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. The chicken was moist and juicy. There was a live band/singing duo performing when we were dining that I wasn’t that crazy about. The acoustics in the restaurant didn’t allow for much conversation, so it was a little annoying, but I’m guessing music is only played on the weekends.

One of our Galveston friends planned a get together at M&M. This was my first visit. We were seated in a private party room and had a waiter appointed to our table. He was wonderful, attentive and gave great suggestions. Everything was wonderful. We had the avocado pancakes and fried green tomatoes for appetizers. They were really good. One person in our party did not get her dessert in a timely manner, so she got a huge piece of cheesecake on the house. Visit at least once, you’ll probably come back

Above average steaks and great ambience in the place. Service was very good. The owners were on the cruise from New York when we ate there we were told with a group from Galveston. There are better places in Galveston but this is a great fall back.

the food is wonderful! I love the French onion soup, fish and chips, eggs benedict. it’s all wonderful! but the staff isn’t great. waited for the other half of our party at the bar. the bartender couldn’t seem to get off her phone long enough to make us cocktails. facebook is not that interesting! I have it too. our server told us all about her day, boyfriend, kid, other job, etc etc. when we asked how you were, we were being polite. a simple great, thank you would have been appreciated. we really didn’t want that much info! we were there to talk to each other. felt like she needed to just sit and have a drink with us we heard so much. really took away from the wonderful food and great ambiance.

I had the tuna which supposedly seared and served with a jalapeño cream. I got tuna, I think. The quality was very stringy with lots of grisly strands. It was coated with an awful rub which was mostly salt. I scraped it off, but it was still way too salty. Plus it was cold. The rest of the plate was just as bad. I told the owner or manager how horrendous my meal had been. He seemed interested, I hope they do something to do better in the future.

I never thought I would give a review to someplace that got my order completely wrong, but here I am. Beautiful restaurant inside a couple blocks from the strand. I Sat outside cause I had my dog by the street, but they do have a patio but I guess it wasn’t open. So I ordered a crawfish poboy with Mac and cheese as my side. Instead I got the shrimp poboy with fries. At first I said something about the fries and my server offered to bring some m&c but I declined. It wasn’t until later I realized I had shrimp. I didn’t care. It was AMAZING. I was hoping the people inside weren’t watching me scarf down my poboy like a homeless person! Speaking of homeless, one did go past Me and comment on my dog and then felt the need to tell me I needed to go to a particular porn site cause I would really enjoy it. My server came out cause he saw what was going on. I really appreciate that and if he reads this, thank you.

While my wife has frequently made a hearty Saturday breakfast of eggs, grits, and a breakfast meat, we had watched Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive Ins & Dives, swooning over a plate of Shrimp & Grits. We agreed that when we could find a restaurant that served this dish, we would give it a try. Upon receiving a strong recommendation from a Galveston local, we entered M&M’s on a Saturday to experience this highly praised dish. We were greeted by the hostess and communicated to her that we were there for the purpose of trying their highly touted Shrimp & Grits. She beamed and told us we would not be disappointed. After being seated and receiving our drinks, we tried to place our order with the waitress, but were apprised that we were too late. It was near 11:00am and breakfast would no longer be served. However, if we returned the following day(Sunday), we would most assuredly be able to order Shrimp & Grits during their brunch. The next day we arrived an hour too early. Not to worry, my wife suggested we locate a coffee shop and wait for the hour to pass. Directly after their hour of opening we walked back and were graciously received and seated by a different hostess and subsequently served by a different waitress than we experienced on Saturday. When we tried to place our order, the waitress told us that the Shrimp & Grits had been an Easter Special item(last week) and that we would not be able to order that plate. For the second day in a row, we graciously excused ourselves and headed for the front door. Before we could depart, the wait staff manager and the head chef approached us and asked us to explain our situation. After hearing that we had heard M&M’s Shrimp & Grits were worth swimming across the Gulf from Pensacola to Galveston, the head chef asked us to wait just a moment while he assessed his capability to create this dish. He returned with a broad smile and a commitment to provide his Shrimp & Grits if we would consider returning to our booth. We agreed. The prep time required to deliver the dish was rather long, but when considering this was a dish that was not on the menu and had not been prepped for the potentiality of multiple orders, and that we were serenaded by a lady while she played the piano, the time pleasantly passed. After our dishes arrived, and the grits allowed to cool, we began our meal. After our first bite, my wife and I simply looked at each other with an expression that relayed a silent message that intersected at the word WOW. We began to identify the multiple tastes we had experienced which included bacon and cheese in the grits, and garlic in the sauce spread over the top of the shrimp. We could now relate to the response Guy had displayed while tasting his dish of Shrimp & Grits on the Food Network channel. For such a simple dish, this was mighty tasty. A short note regarding the ambiance of this restaurant. This building was built during a time when dark wood was the material of choice for long lasting structure and décor. When one considers this building(per a plaque on the front door post) survived the 1900 hurricane which destroyed much of this island’s manmade structures, has served as a home, a retail store, a brothel,(which is likely the reason for the testosterone perpetuating, non-indigenous, taxidermy heads of a bison and a moose on the walls) and for many years as a restaurant, it is a stalwart land mark that deserves our consideration and respect. In summary, a hearty salute to the management team in their effort to accommodate our request and a job well done by the chef(s) in preparing and serving a fine breakfast meal.

When we arrived 20 minutes before M&M open. They let is in and offered coffee until they opened and the whole time they treated us as a regular and not like a tourist(we were). I highly recommend this establishment for there food and friendly environment. Thank you Kirsten for a wonderful time from the lake worth couple

Under new management. Menu and service have been very good. Also, I would be remiss not to mention their happy hour. Great décor, almost like you’re in the French Quarter.

This place has really good food and the atmosphere is classic old time Galveston. We really enjoy dining at M&M. The menu selection is varied with steaks, seafood, chicken and pasta. However, we’ve been there 3 times and each time we had to yell over the music. Live music is a great idea but it takes away from the dining experience when you can’t talk over the music.

Fantastic artichoke crab dip, chicken artichoke, seafood pasta! Steve K has done wonders for this Downtown Galveston restaurant and bar. Eat inside or out, excellent service, wonderful live music perfect for date night or any night, delicious lunches too! See you there, it’s all here in Downtown Galveston.

This is a cool little place to hang out and have lunch, brunch or dinner. We came in the late afternoon for a little snack. Had the avocado pancakes and the stuffed mushrooms. Both were very good. However must really say that the stuffed mushrooms were probably the best I have ever had. They were mostly filled with crab, not just full of the breading that makes the stuffing. I will definitely order both of these things again.

For my 50th Birthday my friends took me here for dinner. After just coming off a NCL ship my standers are a litter higher then usual. M & M didn’t let me down. Our waiter was very friendly and made the evening go by smoothly. He was always there just at the right time but not so much you felt any pressure. He knew the menu and made great recommendation. The restaurant is in a charming old building off the main path. It’s easy to find and well worth it to get off the seawall where all the touristy people are. Yes, it’s a locals hangout. Food was amazing. I had the scallops and if you love them like I do, you know it’s a real art to get them done perfectly. Our waiter suggested the bread pudding for desert., right on. It was the perfect ending to our meal. If your someone that likes small family owned places then M & M will not disappoint you.

We were in the strand area and decided we wanted to try something further off the strand that may be a bit less touristy since all the cruisers were in town and it was somewhat crowded. After looking through Unilocal,we decided to give this place a try. It was pretty good, but I gave 4 stars because of the effort and attention by the staff, not necessarily the food. The food was a solid 3 stars… pretty good, but not really anything to rave about. The server was fairly new and seemed to genuinely try his best to be attentive and answer our questions. He apologized and went to ask if he didn’t know, which I thought was better than just blurting something out… I think he’ll learn it all with time. We had one minor mix up that the server noticed as he set the entrée on the table. The manager promptly came by with the correct side-item and offered his apology and took a minute to ask how everything else was and made sure we were all set. As I mentioned, 4 stars for the service.

Nice place for a super nice lunch. Lunch specials always great… portions are more than enough, food arrives fairly quick, nice and hot. Fyi… fair warning though, flies on the patio are horrible!

I came here with a coworker on a Tuesday night while in town for work. The ambiance is nice and the prices are reasonable, mostly considering island prices. The menu has a pretty varied selection and I settled on jumbo lump crab cakes covered in lobster bisque(it came with the daily starch and vegetable) and my coworker settled on pasta primavera. While we were waiting, I overheard the booth behind us discussion the weekly Tuesday oyster special, 3 dozen for $ 22. Unfortunately my coworker doesn’t eat oysters, so I wasn’t able to partake, but apparently you can choose which ways you want your oysters prepared. The food came quickly enough and the portions were enough to share… I had 3 crab cakes and the plate of pasta was huge. We were both pleased with our meals and my only complaint is that I had to ask our waiter for the complimentary loaf of(dark ginger?) bread that I saw on other tables. I would go here again.

A nice restaurant that’s more full of locals than other places on the island. I had the scallops, and my dining companions had the tenderloin salad and M&M classic. The staff was very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was relaxing.
