This is probably my favorite place to eat in town. The drinks are very reasonable and the fresh catfish and shrimp are a delicious bargain. All the food looks good, but I can’t help but go for the seafood every time. What’s costs you $ 18 on the seawall is $ 10 – 11 here. You can also go for the all you can eat catfish for about $ 12. Their green beans are great for a side dish, much better than the salad or come slaw. Finally, you can get the shrimp and catfish grilled and pretend you’re being healthy. One caveat is that smoking is allowed inside, so if that’s a proven for you, you may want to avoid it. But that’s okay, because that leaves more for me.

Been on this island almost 15 years, and I didn’t know Jack! Loved this place! Jack is awesome, the young lady tending bar was super nice, and the catfish was the best I ever put in my mouth. I will be back!

Nice find off the beaten path, the owner, Jack, of course, greeted us about the time we sat down. We ordered a pizza, very good. The catfish was crisp and fresh and the tartar sauce hit the spot. Can’t go wrong with this place folks.

I’m not a big fan of Galveston, but we found a bar that eases the pain of the drive down I-45. Jacks Pub is a classic, old school locals joint. It’s a 5 minute walk from the Tremont Hotel, in what some may consider a dodgy hood, but its worth the walk. The burgers, pizza, and catfish were all great. The bartender, Jasmine, was a blast. Don’t mess with the tourist traps on The Strand or seawall. Go local and seek out Jacks.

Wish I was less intoxicated when I visited this bar. It was very smokey and my friend turned into a douche. The bartender seemed very nice considering my other friend hit the floor as soon as we walked in. Needless to say he wouldn’t serve us.(don’t blame him) he kindly asked if we would like a water. Unfortunately my other friend is in a self absorbed stage, so she was all wrapped up in her latest guy. If your into sitting on bar stools smoking cigarettes and eating fried food this is your spot. I think the bartender was good looking definitely better than the patrons but my eyes didn’t work very well anymore.

Well it’s ur usual olé man five bar… But with night club or strip club prices in downtown Houston! It’s $ 5.25 per beer!!! On a Tuesday night!!! With nothing but oldan bikers goin on inside! Stay away! I think it’s a local place not friendly to outsiders!

Honestly, I would give this bar 0 stars. My husband and I went for drinks and ordered some nachos, they came out ice cold and to boot they just left the nachos on the bar and never replace them with warm ones. There is no class in this bar. far better bars in and around the Strand then this place.

This place is great. There’s a sign on the jukebox that says no rap… they hate rap and morons with pants around their knees

Nice local bar. Small & cozy. A dive but not in the dirty, smelly way. Pleasant, attentive staff. They definitely know how to pour a drink! Close to the Strand tourist district.

This place is exactly what I was looking for: local, come-as-you-are bar. My bottled beer was served promptly and with a koozie which is major plus in my book. Bartender was friendly and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Another win in the Unilocal column.

Me and the BF were looking for a comfy, cozy, smokey, seedy dive bar on Galveston island to wind down our Sunday afternoon, and my fellow Unilocalers led me to this place. I was not disappointed at all. Down a few blocks and around the corner from the ultra touristy shops and restaurants of The Strand was this little gem. We hadn’t even put the the car in park before getting a friendly wave from the owner, outside doing«bar chores»(I guess?). There was a small, but steady local crowd, free pool table, a jukebox(on which rap and country music were prohibited…*shrug*… Whatevs. More soft rock for me!) and a bartender named Tony who made me a pretty remarkable dirty gin martini. I’ll be back, Jack’s…

Hidden gem. Free pool cheap drinks and great bartender. I think the owner was there and he orders a big plate of some seafood fried balls thing. Set them on the bar for everyone to try and they were delish! Walked by after leaving the shit hole across the street we dropped $ 60 at and would much rather have been here the whole time. Nice price and had college football on. Def would return. Hilarious that the juke box had a sign saying if you play rap music that management would shut it off & you loose your $. If hip hop is your style steer clear

There are no words to express how awesome this place is. Came during Memorial Day weekend. The place has the best service, best vibe, and a not-for-the-faint-of-heart crawfish boil on Sundays. The back patio is awesome and super homey. We were given free swag and awesome hospitality. The bartender and her husband are super cute! #carmenfanclub

the lady bartender with a killer smile… made us the best fresh squeezed lemon drop martini’s — YUM. but, i kid you not… you walk out after 2… and you’re feeling no pain! everyday catfish special — all you can eat for under $ 12. [plus they have daily meal specials too] met jack the owner and his wife sandy — real nice couple. come as you are… sit at the bar… and soon the people will know your name :)

Great local bar! Not a lot of young idiots like you find on the Seawall. Yea, yea, I know I was that age once and I acted a fool too. These days, I like the older, more mature crowds and you find that here. Our bartender both times was awesome and took such great care of us! We had a big group and and even though she had a full bar, she constantly came over to refill our drinks and make sure we were ok. You can smoke inside, so your whole outfit will smell like cig smoke for a couple days. Just know that going into it so you are not surprised. The food was awesome. It’s bar food, but it’s good! I have tried the pizza, mashed potatoes, and corndogs and all were yummy and came out quickly. Drinks were strong and cheap. My boyfriend and I had a $ 50 tab for everything and we were there pretty much all night.
