It was okay, not out of this world. We brought our kids and the staff was very snotty. I might give it another try but wasn’t too impressed.

The Grotto is better than okay but it does fall shy of being great. While the restaurant owned by Landry’s restaurant group don’t let that dissuade you, the food is well thought out and they even have some bottles of wine reasonably priced. Located in the Hotel San Luis(which is beautiful) the Grotto is off the pool if you’re staying at the hotel. If you’re parking the car, it’s up five flights of stairs, just off the unrealistically small helipad.(FYI guys. Marine One is not going to stop by for some pasta) Anyway, to the food! Bread was crusty and WARM.(Check!) Bottles of wine were reasonably priced(Check!) Service was very good(Check!) Food had flavor!(Check!) Our experience was very good. I mean, there won’t be awards for the food they’re plating up but it was very tasty. It was even my birthday and the staff signed a birthday card for me which was super fun. They veal parmigiana was okay but definitely the best thing we had was the mussels. It came in a spicy winey garlicky sauce. Yum. Get them — I’d probably return for those mussels.

All that can be said about the Grotto is excellent. From the location to the food and service this was a great find. The service and attention were phenomenal. All of the meals in our party were prepared and delivered promptly. The quality and taste if all the meals were outstanding. The bread and pre meal deliverables(bread, etc.) were all freshly made. This was a fine Italian dining experience. The deserts which were not sampled, since we were all filled after the meal were finely made and looked delectable. This was one of the bet Italian establishments I have visited.

Staying at the resort we had to get a pizza and veg out after the sun went down in our room! We ordered a pepperoni pizza and the strawberry cheesecake! Both amazing! I love love loved the fresh grated Parmesan served to sprinkle on our pizza. Great job Grotto you cured our late night munchies and have gained a repeat customer for sure! Mmmm delicious!

This place is incredible. The food is absolutely the best thing on the Seawall. Josh, the head chef, is a true artist in the kitchen.

It is in the hotel and a much smaller space. The food was pretty good, we had pizza. You could see the pool outside. The service was slow but we did see a proposal.

It’s OK. nothing to get excited about. Decent italian food. The desserts are another case though– very so, so and very non-italian. Overall a C+ experience.

Grotto is simply amazing. Even with a large party on a Friday night during Mardi Gras, the service was absolutely amazing, being so attentive and patient with our table. The food and wine were excellent and everything came out perfectly. I highly recommend Grotto for any celebratory dinner!

Just there for New Years Eve second year in a row. We had the prefix menu with the gold wine pairing. Like last year it was above your average prefix meal with great service and fun atmosphere. I highly recommend the fish dishes, they never dissappoint. The grilled Ceasar is a must have! The wine pairings were spot on!

Food was terrible. Its in the San Ruis hotel. Seriously I had a hard time eating the food. I got a chicken dish but it was not well seasoned at all, and over-cooked. The staff is nice. But I wouldn’t recommend eating here. The gelato dessert was pretty good though.

Excellent service here compared to the other Landry’s chain of restaurant, thanks to Joseph our waiter last night and the full staff for outstanding service, also the Floor managers in suits checking every table for any issues or concern, keep it up, hope this kind of service will also be implemented at KEMAH Boardwalk.

The décor — whimsical murals, striking blown glass chandeliers, deep rich red fabrics. We valeted at the front of the hotel, and entered that way — as if were going to the Steakhouse, however the area in which you have to navigate through to get to Grotto, is currently under construction. Perhaps there is another entrance that we didn’t know about, but I can say that walking through the hotel maze through long halls of construction and past empty banquet rooms to get to the restaurant FOOD: Mozzarella in Padella appetizer Linguini Pescatore Italian Chopped Salad, which was Grilled chicken, prosciutto, provolone, Gorgonzola, bacon & egg, with crisp iceberg Linguine Pescatore Shrimp, scallops, calamari, mussels & white wine tomato sauce And a trio of tiramisu for dessert. Good, not amazing italian food, at prices that won’t squeeze your pocket book. Nice addition to the San Luis resort/hotel.

We are not normally fans pf Landrys dining, but the experience at The Grotto in Galveston was impeccable. The manager and waiter were both top notch as was the rest of the support staff. Every food item we had was very good, and they were happy to make changes for dietary need and preferences. Prices were reasonable and the view was nice.

I had high expectations about this place from reviews. Ordered the shrimp and crab capellini. Sad to say it was full of oil and too lemony sour for my taste. My coworker ordered the same thing and agreed with me. She even tried to aid her palate by adding pepper. Atmosphere was nice though. Romantic Date appropriate, I’d call it. Drinks were good though. I will say we were definitely the youngest people there for dinner the night we went. I might try it again, but I’ll leave the capellini alone.

We wandered over to the Grotto with some friends on a Friday night to check out a place we have been hearing about. I hadn’t even noticed it when I was there before. It is an attractive addition to the poolside area of the San Luis. The setting is lovely with a view of the waterfall. And the volcano in a distance if you enjoy that. This was a festive occasion so we decided to order a bottle of proseco, and were pleased with the Villa Sandi they offer from their ample wine list. We were treated to plenty of fresh bread and garlic-infused olive oil dipping sauce. Along with that we selected a starter of Calamari Toto. The calamari was fresh and tender with a delicately flavored crust. I am usually not a big calamari fan, but this was simply superb and the best I’ve ever tasted. I would order it again. If I had any complaint, it was that they could have provided more marinara sauce given the generous size of the calamari serving. My companion decided to sample the tomato basil soup and was not disappointed. The soup was creamy and rich, and to put it simply, delicious with the fresh basil sprinkled on top. We were beginning to think we were really going to like this place despite the policy against reservations for groups of less than five and the somewhat crowded, noisy atmosphere. I am unable to resist pasta, or any dish with lump crab, or fresh shrimp. So when I saw the«Shrimp and Crab Capellini» on the menu I had no choice. This arrived in a generous serving with plenty of exquisitely fresh shrimp and big bites of crab. The pasta was a bit glutinous but did not detract from the flavorful sauce which had a perfect hint of lemon. My companion is a snapper fanatic and ordered the Snapper Siciliano. He typically prefers his snapper grilled and unadorned, but took a risk to try the Capellini-crusted version. The snapper was deemed very fresh cooked to perfection(did I mention he is a fanatic?). The crust complemented the snapper flavor. Add in the fresh jumbo lump crab and the tomato and shrimp sauce and he declared the entrée to be a total delight. Now I’m feeling hungry just thinking about it. To top it off we ordered a slice of «Mezzanotte» chocolate cake, and a piece of Mama’s recipe coconut pie along with our coffee. Not to worry, we shared with our friends. Both were fabulous although the cake was a bit dry. I’m a chocaholic, however, so no complaint here. This is a restaurant I would gladly recommend to friends. The menu is varied with everything from soups to salads to entrée to pizzas. Staff members were quick responders and very pleasant. Only negatives were the high noise level and general crowdedness; this is not the place for a quiet romantic dinner. At least not on a weekend evening. Give it a try and see what you think. I believe you’ll be glad you did.
