This place is one of our favorites. Sushi is the best in town, hibachi is always cooked to perfection, the staff is consistent and friendly, and they always put on a great show. Prices are very comparable and they have been the same since we started going. Only reason they’re getting four stars is because the establishment itself could use some updates. Occasionally it looks a little drab. Although if improving the looks means raising the prices, I’m fine with how it is!

Food is good however their sushi menu doesn’t have what I like so for personal reasons I give four stars.

Vary good sushi, good price and good quality! Enjoyed the eel role vary much, I did not get to try the steakhouse food, but it seemed to be top notch, definitely would recommend to any sushi lover.

Overall Ontani is pretty good. My husband and I started off with the Volcano Roll which was really good. They give you plenty of crab meat on top. Yum! Then we both had the shrimp & chicken combo… After our soup and salad. :) Everything was cooked well as well. My only complaint is that they definitely don’t give you a good amount of rice. I feel you get the correct amount when you order extra rice, so if your like the rice order extra. Other than that I have no complaints, and I would come back again!

We are only one of two family’s in the whole restaurant and service is terrible, flys landing on everything and just seemed not the cleanest of place to eat. food was flavorless to which made it even worse. Took 15 minutes just to take my check so we could leave. Never coming back.

Fantastic quality of food, Federicksburg has several restaurants similar to this and Otani’s is by far the best. Abraham is the most entertaining chef I believe they have. It is also great for kids.

Best place in town, did not really want to give a good review because that just means the wait line will be that much longer come Friday! Really, best place around, I eat all over the country and look forward to coming home so I can eat here! Filet and shrimp, fried rice!!!

Awesome atmosphere and great food. The chefs are all artists and make dinner a fun event. The food was cooked fresh and tasted amazing. Service was above and beyond. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone having a desire for great Asian cuisine.

Had a double date night with the wife and some friends and was craving Japanese steakhouse food. Decisions came down to here Kobe or Sakura and you can guess what the decision ended up being. Location is off route 3 near the mall and not really visible from route 3. You have to look for the huge Otani sign is the air to locate it. Arrived at 630 on a Sat and parking is very limited but luckily a spot opened once we circled the lot once. Walked in and was greeted by a very nice hostess who gave us a 20 min wait. While waiting I noticed the carpets were falling apart at the seems and you can see the concrete. I think its time to spend some cash on new carpets. Floors near the cooking stations and tables were not spotless but it was busy and there wasnt enough time to sweep inbetween cleaning and sitting so floors deduct the only point. It seems everytime I get sat at these type of restaurants I am always on the side of the table and never get a front view. O well I still enjoy the show. We ordered sushi and it was pretty good. Unfortunately dont remember the name but it had shrimp tempura and cream cheese with avocado on top. My meal was the filet minion and scallops and my wife has chicken and shrimp. Each meal comes with a piping hot soup which had like 3 long noodles and one thinly sliced mushroom in a broth. Quite delicious actually. Also comes with a salad with a ginger dressing. I really enjoy the salads as I ate 3(mine, wifes and friends) haha I cant turn down good food. Now onto the meals. Each main course comes with a heaping pile of fried rice, mixed veggies and 2 shrimp. I ordered my filet rare(this is the only time I ever order rare for my steak as usually it gets overcooked and ends up being med rare) This time was perfect. The filet melted in my mouth and was super amazing. The scallops omg sigh I wish I didnt eat so fast. The rice was awesome and Im a sucker for veggies. My entire meal gone beore the chef left. My wife loved hers as well. The end of the meal comes with a sorbet. This time we all received lime flavored and to my surprise was actually refreshing and a palat cleanser. Im horrible at spelling so I hope thats right. The show was fun as the chef was entertaining and I ended up catching everything that the chef tossed in the air(I feel like a pro when coming to these places haha) The other people at the table were not so fun as they did not want to participate in the shrimp and chicken toss. Maybe I intimidated them with my perfect score haha. Overall always a great experience to be shared with family and friends. The food is always great. Hopefully they can fix their carpets or clean some but that doesnt take away from the experience cuz you dont pay attention to the floors while you eat. The bill came to $ 80 for 2 of us but thats only cuz of 2 meals and sushi. It can be expensive so be prepared to pay, I will return.

This place is ok. Had great service but my veggies were overcooked. When cooking food and you like fresh alittle more fresh crispiness to you veggies, may have to ask in advance to remove from grill.

I went here for the first time on Friday night and I can’t believe I haven’t gone here sooner. The location is kind of hidden, I’ve noticed it every time I go to FedEx and it always seemed kind of dead, but it was extremely packed on Friday night. There are two sides, one is like a Benihana style and the other side is the sushi bar. We sat at the sushi bar because there was no wait. There is also a pretty good sizes bar near the sushi side. I got the dinner special which came with miso soup, salad, two piece gyoza, four piece nigiri, and a choice between two different rolls… only $ 18.99! It was extremely filling and everything tasted very fresh. I looked over the rest of the items on the menu and they were all priced very good for sushi. The service was excellent, even with it being as busy as it was. We liked it so much, we came back the very next day for lunch :) had the same server(also the bartender)… not sure what his name was, but he remembered us from the night before. Very friendly and knowledgable of the food we ordered. Definitely recommend!

Let’s start off with this: it was my birthday, and until I went to dinner I had spent all day writing an essay for one of my finals. Firstly — they have sweet potato sushi rolls, and if you’ve never had one, go here and get them and die peacefully. Second — a bit disappointing, but they were out of uni and I was lookin forward to trying it. Next time for sure. Third — the grill chef was really personable, very engaging, and overall pleasant. Now, the food — I got the filet and a lobster tail, with noodles and mushrooms, and my friend got the calamari. Simply put, it was delicious. I love hibachi places, and this place is easily in my top three ever. Everything was well seasoned, not too salty, nothing was under or overcooked, and I was even pleasantly surprised by the shrimp, which I typically never eat because of bad experiences. This place converted me — I will no longer refer to them as the cockroach of the sea. I look forward to going back and soon. Also — free $ 10 off coupon when we checked out. Price was on par with other hibachi places, maybe even a bit cheaper considering we got drinks and multiple appetizers(get the gyoza for sure).

Love this place. Fried rice and yum yum sauce are to die for. Show is great too! Recommend also trying the Spicy Valcano Crab Sushi(it’s cooked) and the gyozas. Japanese beer, Sapporo is great too. Everything on their menu is awesome. Best hibachi place, food wise.

Great as always. We are regular visitors here. Always been impressed by the food, service and«show». Went today, sat, with 4 adults and a toddler at noonish. Place was almost empty which was awesome! Unlike many other hibachi houses the cooks are always fun and original. The showmanship of the cooks is half the reason people go to these places right?! The miso, salad, entrees and sauces are always awesomely tasty. It really makes other places look bad especially when other places are more expensive. I also enjoy the sushi here. I hesitantly ordered the Mary Washington roll and it came out huge and yummy. My non sushi eating mom even liked it! Seriously recommend it!

This place is always good to eat at. People that use Unilocal should keep to rating service and did not their views on life or other people.

Last night was my second time going to Otani and I have to say that it was awesome. We were seated promptly and to our delight we were served by an individual that was in the process of being trained. This was our opportunity to enjoy really good food and break in a new server. I would say we had our salad, soup, and avocado roll within about 10 minutes of being seated. The Teppanyaki chef was extremely friendly and cooked our food very well. My Filet mignon was awesome! The only critique would be the noise level, but it honestly wasn’t that bad.

We are new to Colonial Beach and we visit Fredericksburg often. We have been looking for a great sushi place and we finally found it here!!! From the moment we walked in the door, the service was outstanding! Allison was our waitress and I can not speak highly enough about her. We had a ton of questions about the different sushi rolls and she answered them without hesitation. She is very knowledgeable. She was also very engaging with my son and he loved her! Thanks for that. Makes it a lot easier on parents. Ordered my son the hibachi kids meal and it came with soup, salad, chicken, fried rice, steamed veggies and even ice cream at the end. Well worth the $ 8.95. I got 2 sushi rolls and my husband got 3. I also ordered a side of fried rice. We got all this for $ 52. Everything was very well price and again at the end we got pineapple sherbet. Yummy! Can’t wait to eat here again!

This is our favorite Japanese place in the area! We have tried several different ones and always end up back here. Portion size is great and it is consistent in good taste. They are also more entertaining than the others around. We went on Christmas Eve when it was very busy and they treated us well. Our kids always pick this place for their bday celebrations!

Went here tonight for an unplanned change of pace break the week shakeup. chefs were nice and service was good and attentive. Had lobster and filet Mignon.; lobster was OK but filet seemed to be the toughest filet I have eaten in 5 years… wonder if it was just cut to look like a filet but was actually round steak instead… Wife had scallops and shrimp which seemed like a pretty good deal. ALLWASOK Until they cooked vegetables where were the bean sprouts,.huh, they cut bean sprouts off the menu now. they only cooked zucchini, onions and. mushrooms now. asked chef. he says he don’t know why they stopped cooking bean sprouts with rice in menu’s. He said he is new there. this does not ‘bode well’ if they are dropping veggies from menu… Hmm every other JAPANESE restaurant serves stir fry bean sprouts with the rice. DECORINTHIS PLaCE ISMINIMALISTIC and hasn’t changed in 10 years; it needs MORE competition to make this place shine again… OVERPRICED for the food we got but the alcohol and beer charges were realistic compared to other restaurants in the area. Entrees STARTAT21.99 for the combo meals and go to 28.99. DINNERFORTWOWILLEASILYSETYOUBACK50.00 with no alcohol.

Contrary to other reviews, I found the waiting staff to be great and the food to be not so good. This is also for sushi. 4 stars for service. 2 for sushi. I’ve been to Otani a couple times for Wednesday sushi night, when no roll is priced over $ 4. Granted, you can’t get your completely overly extravagant killer ninja volcano roll with 20 fillings, but all your standard rolls are available for cheap. Value wise, this is difficult to beat despite their basic menu. The first time I wasn’t too impressed with the sushi, but I decided to give it another shot. Between the two visits our groups must have ordered every roll(and fish) on the menu, so I feel that I have a decent grip on the sushi menu. Notably, their tuna and eel were alright, and the salmon and shrimp not as much. Overall, their rolls and nigiri are below average. Bittersweet responsiveness of food delivered less than 5 minutes after ordering questions what(if any) rolls are made to order here. My major qualm is the temperature of the sushi. Warm sushi makes my stomach turn like the dropzone after a buffet. When I found a sushi roll with warm fish, my lips quivered with uncertainty. On two different rolls, the rice was so warm it was fresh out of the cooker. It’s a shame they didn’t deliver quality food because I want to like this place. The service is attentive and friendly and it’s a nice atmosphere, atleast in my two experiences. If I return, it won’t be on a Wednesday when maybe the quality is better with less customers. Also a shame they have terrible visibility to Rt 3– I would have never known without a friend referring me.
