I had heard rumors of the $ 1 Bun Rieu special, but dismissed it as too good to be true(or edible). After a friend posted a picture of it on Facebook(and confirmed the bun rieu was not only edible but tasted good) I became less leery and put it on my lists of places to check out. Well last night, Domo and I were out scouting for Halloween costumes and happened to be in the area. I had 2 choices, go get broken rice, or check out the $ 1 Bun Rieu place. Of course, I opted for the latter :) On the outside of the restaurant, there’s a huge yellow banner advertising that their Grand Opening was on 9÷1÷11. Bun Rieu was normally $ 3, but was on sale for $ 1 for their Grand Opening. The sign was huge so I’m surprised it wasn’t as packed inside. There were actually only about 2 other tables of people inside when we entered(REDFLAG!). One of the tables appeared to be friends of the owner’s kids. We were seated by the waiter(owner’s teenage son I presume) and looked over the menu. The menu resembled Nga Hang $ 1.99’s menu and I quickly remembered that someone mentioned this used to be Nga Hang until they changed owner and renamed themselves as Binh Anh. Domo immediately ordered his fav, Cornish Game Hen with Red Rice. I, of course, ordered the $ 1 Bun Rieu loss leader :). Drinks were reasonable, ranging from $ 1 to $ 1.95. When our orders arrived, our eyes immediately bulged with delight. –Cornish game hen($ 3.75): A super-sized version. The skin was crispy and golden. The chicken sauce is the best part. It came with red tomato rice and side of pickled veggies. It looked so good that I even had to sneak a few bites here and there even though I was scarfing down my own dish. –Bun Rieu($ 1): The bowl was actually a good decent size. I was expecting a giant bowl filled ¼ the way full but it was actually half way full. Exceeded my expectations for sure. Tasted pretty good too! After we were done eating, we decided to order 2 more bowls of Bun Rieu. By the time it arrived, the food had finally hit our stomachs and we couldn’t stuff ourselves any further. darnit! Wasted 50 cents!!! haha Lots of people swing by here to order food to go. Not sure if they charge extra for it, tho I wouldn’t be surprised since most $ 1.99 restaurants do charge extra. This placce was more like a $ 3.75 place since most dishes were in that range. Come by, give it a try, and take advantage of their $ 1 Bun Rieu!
