Is this place still open? I miss the 5 buck chicken meal

It is what it is. $ 1.99? More like for the water(which they charge for here). What keeps me coming back is the Com Ga or Com Bo(Fried Cornish Hen with red rice and egg or Pan Fried Beef Steak with white rice and egg). I’ve been here since the Chicken used to be an OG price of $ 4.25. But as the years go by, it gets harder and harder to shoot down seagulls and pass them off as chicken… err…well, these Cornish hens are so darned small. The only redemption is the nice black soy/onion flavored dipping sauce, which you get sparingly as they’ll hit you with another 75 cents to get some more. Oliver Twist on a budget, but I keep coming back. Around January they tried removing the eggs and charging extra for them. I boycotted them after that, and I think they since reverted back to inclusion of an egg.

I’ve only known about this place for two years and it was never $ 1.99 in price for me, but who cares since it’s still so affordable. The ambiance is questionable, but I’ve only done take-out. It’s run down and old, but at least it has passed inspections. The lemon grass spicy chicken that comes with crispy rice is the best here. It’s an oily dish, but seasoned with thinly cut lemon grass mixture and chili, sure gives it that flavor I crave. The chicken is bone-in and for just $ 4.50, this is an addictive flavor. The thin pork chop and fried egg over white steam rice is good, but not filling for just under $ 5. The half chicken over yellow rice is under $ 6, really filling with a good amount of chicken. They offer rau ma and various che for dessert. This place is still cash only, so make sure you have it. recommendation: lemon grass chicken

This place is advertised as 1.99 but their food cost 4 dollars and above(ok wtv). I asked them for water and they only have bottle water(ok wtv). They only have cash only(alrighhhht). The kid that’s working in this place is playing some Vietnamese song out loud and was singing like there’s a concert. Smh. Only if the food wasn’t good I’d give this place 1 star.

holy cow. What are you doing. I remember the good olé days some 10 years back when the store first open. 1.99 goodness. I stay with them when it went up to 2.75. Remained when it was 3.25. Reluctantly consumed their foods at 4.25. NOW it’s nearly 6 dollars? C’mon now. For around 4 bucks it was a good deal. But for 6 dollars you can get better quality food elsewhere.

I normally really enjoy coming here to eat but I guess they don’t really care about good customer service when it’s almost time to close. There’s this adorable girl that normally works the front but she wasn’t there today. My boyfriend and I came in to have a to go order for dinner. The guy was mopping. He didn’t even look at us til I cleared my throat. He has the nerve to ask if we really want to order food when they’re closing soon. As in half an hr. He rolled his eyes, gave us attitude, and just sat down on the table while we looked at the menu. Finally the food came out and he just tosses it in the table. Thanks for the tip dude I won’t be coming back anytime soon. The food tastes like they just made it as quickly as possible so they could get rid of us.

Came here last week to found out that the price has gone up. It’s now more than $ 6 for com ga that was once $ 1.99. My review is mainly for the price and customer service.

Nha Hang $ 1.99 is known for its Com Ga Roti. That is really the only thing I will ever buy there. I’m pretty sure that they have other dishes that will taste nice. That’s all fine and dandy, but why pass up what they specialize in? The dish is half of a rotisserie chicken on rice with a side of veggies. It’s super crispy as you may have read from the other reviews. The sauce they serve it with is nice and manh(strong)! It’s salty and savory. It goes great with the chicken and rice. I don’t know when they started doing this but our server gave us our plates with an egg on top of the rice! What a pleasant surprise. I would like to think I am special, but even if they serve it to everyone, I think it definitely adds to the plate. Oh, décor and parking may not be the best, but seriously, I like this restaurant.

Sadly, the items are no longer priced at 1.99 but the quality is still quite good. It’s a classic! Get the steak or the chicken — both are delicious, though I do prefer the steak just a tiny bit more. I usually get the food to-go though, just because the restaurant is a little run-down and the seats and tables can get sticky…

this place is always empty, BUT people come in non– stop for to-go orders. it used to be cheap, literally $ 1.99 for any item on the menu now its like $ 1.99-$ 4.99LOL i always order the ½ cornish hen with rice dish. i mean, the chicken is good(deep fried so its way too oily), but as you dig into the meat, it gets dry… they’re super stingy on their soy sauce for the chicken though, ugh! and there seems to only be one girl working every time i go(she’s the cashier, server, bus girl) but she seems friendly and service is good.

The fried chicken and com do are the best food I’ve ever eaten that’s cheap and tastes really good. The black sauce thing for the fried chicken is so bomb. The cabbage was also good with a taste of sweetness and slightly juicy. It used to be $ 1.99 for each food on the menu but now the price increased, but that’s okay.

Yea menu items may not be $ 1.99 anymore and everyone is mad. I get it. Inflation people. Despite being close to $ 4 it’s still worth it. While the portions are that big it beats fast food any day. If you’re a big guy with an appetite you’ll probably order 2 portions. That’s good. Variety is a good thing my friends. :)

I personally like and enjoy this place. I’m not sure why all the bad reviews about their service… it’s an old school Vietnamese place for crying out loud! Okay, lets move on to the actual review. My personal fave is the #1 combo… half a deep fried cornish hen with tomato rice and a side of pickled veggies and some yummy soy sauce concoction. The food itself is only $ 4.50 and the to-go box is an additional $ 0.50. Please stop freaking out that the price is not $ 1.99 and that the to-go box is $ 0.50!!! I’m sure the combos use to cost $ 1.99 back in the days when they first opened but lets account for inflation shall we? And if you really think about it can you get something as delicious as this place at KFC’s or Popeyes? I doubt it. When we were there to place our order we saw a bunch of older Vietnamese people picking up their order as well. If some Viet grandpa is buying a grip if food from this place you know its legit soul food. Conclusion: I highly recommend this place. Bring cash, point to the menu, get it to go and go enjoy some yumminess.

So obviously this is for to-go. Does anyone really sit in this joint?! lol [[ Phone-in ]]– Call in advance and order your meal. Save yourself the 15 minute wait and you can just park and leave! Vietnamese preferred :) [[ Com Ga ]]– it’s the BEST vietnamese chicken and rice out there folks. If you haven’t already known for at least the last 5 years then you must GETINTHEKNOW! You get a small half chicken, fried, and seasoned. The lightest tasting CRISPIEST chicken served over(orange-red) rice. Best part?! Tiny cup of AMAZING sweet sauce! Mix it all up, get your fingers lickin’ and you just done loved yourself good… :)))) mmm. HIGHLY recommended for a quick cheap meal if you’re eating at home! The boyfriend and I opt for this when we’re watching TV/movie at home and still craving a good meal for the soul. LOVE it!

I decided to try this place because I could not believe that you are able to get a meal for less than what you can get at a fast food establishment. It was a nice surprised to see the variety of food on their menu. All of it more than reasonable in pricing. I’ve was able to sample a variety of dishes from everyone’s plate and I can’t say anything bad or anything spectacular about them either. It’s what you should expect for the price you are paying. It was certainly worth a try and I would stop there again especially if I can only find change in my sofa for lunch!

This place is somewhat near my house so occasionally I come here once in a while to grab a quick lunch or dinner to go. Nobody here really speaks English. The price is definitely not $ 1.99, it’s more like $ 4.99. Service is mediocre, the wait for food to come isn’t too long. However make note that they do charge for water and this place is CASHONLY. I usually get the #1 which is the Cornish game hen with rice. The chicken most of the time is very oily so I always peel off the skin and only eat the meat. The meat is pretty dry but since this isn’t some 5 star restaurant I could care less. Once in a while I would get the #2 which is basically pork with rice and a sunny side up egg. However the pork quality is just horrible. It is always burnt black, oily and disgusting to eat. I recently got this the other day and boy was that a bad idea. I got food poisoning or something because I started having diarrhea a couple hours later for nearly 2 hours. I was literally in the bathroom every 10 – 15 mins. Who knows what it was? Maybe old stale rice, a bad egg, or even bad pork. The service can get shady too, I remember one time I came and paid with a $ 20 bill. I ended up getting all 1’s but was short like $ 3 – 4. I didn’t count the money right away but when I got home I realized they didn’t give me enough money back but I was too lazy to go back and demand my money. So overall(especially after getting food poisoning from here recently) I wouldn’t come here unless you like super oily or burnt food that might give you food poisoning. Their sanitation doesn’t look the best either, the soda machine in the back looks pretty old and I can’t imagine the kitchen…

Parking sucks here, the black top needs to be resurfaced, lines are barely visible at some spots. Chicken rose in price its $ 4.15? Either than that, I was craving for the Bo(beef steak). It’s kinda different now, the beef isnt really tasty? Haha, well its not bad for the price I guess. Either than that, you can’t go wrong with the fried chicken here, comes with black sauce with red rice. But its so pricey now from eating it back then. Either way it wont deter me from eating/paying for it. I usually get the che suong sao/xao(dessert) forgot what it is, but the quality on that went down also. As other reviews say about this place, it is a bit dirty, its not like roaches etc are rolling around, but tables get cleaned and of course at any Vietnamese restaurant you should always clean your utensils.

this was definitely the spot to come to before me & my friends headed to the beach. Quick/easy/cheap and everyone is satisfied. They raised their prices a liiiittle(like 20 cents) for the com ga since I’ve worked in OC but hey still cheap can’t complain. Me & a friend always order 2 com ga, 1 com steak, and then the crab/shrimp bruschetta(which increased by a $ 1). They got rid of all their other little snacks/to go dishes and just have a crap load of candy now :( & I wish they wouldn’t put so much ice in my cam vat, I don’t drink most of it til the end and its always watered down too fast. I have more than one friend that will order two of these haha

I only get food to go here. Barely anything is $ 1.99 anymore, but there are still a couple things worth getting. The Mi Xao Don(crispy egg noodles topped with stir fried beef and veggies) is still $ 1.99 and it isn’t terrible. Unfortunately, that’s the best compliment I can give it. It’s still a small portion, there’s not much meat in it, and the gravy is super watery. But you really can’t expect much for under $ 2. The best thing here is still their signature chicken and rice. For $ 4.30, you get ½ a cornish game hen, rice, pickled veggies(gross!) and a container of their addictive dipping sauce. Sure, it’s doubled in price since this place first opened it’s doors, but I think it’s still worth it. It’s a ½ a chicken for $ 4 and some change. I mean, how cheap are you?

In these tough times, a bang for your buck is what people are looking for! This is the place to go if you are looking to eat until your beyond content for under $ 10! I’m talking about $ 3.25 for a dish of cornish game hen, with rice & pickled veggies on the side. And steak, egg and rice dish for $ 2.75? What?! Chrysanthemum tea is only $ 1.00 each and you can get it either hot or cold and they also have soup for a buck also. We came here after a long day @ California Adventures and needed some food to rejuvenate our bodies after hopping on a bunch of rides and walking around the entire day. This place ain’t very fancy or anything but for the same dish elsewhere in a proper restaurant, these dishes will run for at least $ 6 – 8 each. Overall the chicken wasn’t so bad. It was crispy and the sauce it came along with the seasoned rice definitely hits the spot, especially with their special sauce that you can pour over the rice and dip your chicken into. The portion here is enough to satisfy you, though I wouldn’t say it would stuff you. But for the price, you can order 2 – 3 dishes to yourself and feel nice and full before walking out. This place should add a + after the 1.99 as everything isn’t $ 1.99, though everything is still ridiculously cheap. Overall, you can’t go wrong with this place if you happen to be in the area.
