I am sad to report that the Black Olive has closed. I tried ordering food last night and today when I drove past I noticed the sign has been removed. I was really rooting for this place to succeed.

The trio appetizer was delish! Loved the warm Pita bread. The lamb was tender and seasoned to perfection. The Greek salad was perfect. It was a nice lunch. When it comes to taste it was on point. Only downfall we had to ask the waiter to wipe down our table after he sat us down. We were the only people in the established so not having a clean table was a little bad. Also, the bathroom was a little messy. Again, we were one of the first customers of the day so this was obviously a mess from the night before!

The real thing here… authentic Middle Eastern food! This place has a low key, friendly ambiance and the staff is great. The place is very well run and he food is just plain great. For starters, you can’t beat the dip trio and they give you as much warm pita bread as you want.

This place came recommend by a good friend and he wasn’t wrong. It was a quiet, rainy, Ft Lauderdale night — the fizzling weather from Tropical Storm Erika — and therefore, not crowded at all. Beautiful bar and restaurant set up. Very well done. We ordered drinks and small bites. Spicy feta, cheese saganaki(fried cheese), spinach pie, and a gyro plate. Everything was yummy. The bartender, Richard, was attentive and friendly. The owner, Steve, was having a coffee next to us at the bar and we had a great chat with him about his home town of Chicago, his home country of Greece, family, Mediterranean foods, cocktails, and other restaurants.(And that’s one of the best things about having dinner out when a restaurant is slow — you get to talk to the staff!). Anyway, the food was really good. The only thing I would do differently is add more tang to the tzatziki sauce. I like it to sing and dance! When dinner is done, get a shot of ouzo. Cuz that’s just whet one does in a Greek place!

We came here on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was empty. The service was excellent and the food was wonderful. I was looking for something that wasn’t on the menu and our waiter was able to have the kitchen make it for me. I can’t wait to come back and recommend trying this place.

Tried this restaurant for the first time tonight. To say the food was delicious is an understatement. This is a hidden gem in Fort Lauderdale! The salad that comes with dinner was huge and delicious. Service was excellent and the restaurant was spotless.

Tried this place. Its only been open for 8 weeks but by this time it should have proper training in place. The staff tries but actually over services… we ordered the spread for an app. and in less then 1 min. the server brought the soups(which had a broken chicken base so it was separated and rather un-appetizing). The main dishes came(Stuffed Grape Leaves) that was saturated in oils and water that the food was soaking the entrees. The taste was below average… appearance poor… the place has a smell of mold and mildew. Less then friendly hostess not worth spending your time or money on a major disappointment.

The food was fresh fast and AMAZING! The environment was updated and modernly charming! The waitress was friendly and helpful with food selection as well as timing the food so it was always hot or cold(depending on the dish.)

Definitely a great place. It seems they needed time to settle in !! The menu could be larger and there was no falafel(is that Greek?)… Either way I ordered the salmon and Greek salad that were fantastic!!! My partner order the mixed plate and awesome lentil soup! I’m very picky bout Greek food and this was good! We had some great Greek red wine too! The prices were a lot cheaper than Greek Isles down the road !!! The décor was simple and beautiful. They’re only missing white table clothes which would have been an awesome touch! I heard they have happy hour at the bar with 50% off alcohol and small plates so we will be back! Our server was Bettina who was awesome — truly made the night !

We dined with a group of five, and shared most of the dishes. The small Greek salad had a pleasant, mild dressing. The baked lima beans and roast eggplant as appetizers were also good. Unlike a couple of other reviewers, we all found the grilled octopus to be tender and tasty, actually a nice surprise for I and one other who tend to find this dish too chewy at other establishments. The pork chops were moist and tasty. Another of our group had the Mousaka, and as a past traveler to Greece, thought it was as good as any she had there. The Briam side dish was also very good. The staff were all friendly, and worked hard to please. Stopping by often to ask if we needed anything. TOPPINGALLOFTHATOFFWASEXCELLENTLIVEMUSICBYBERNIE C! Who will be back on Friday May 8th.

Went for the first time on 5÷2÷15. We were pleasantly surprised as the food was very good, very fresh, we had great service, and the prices were very reasonable. This is the best Greek food I have had in a long time, and we have two very good places in our Galt neighborhood. We started with the cold appetizer platter which was served with nice warm pita bread, more than enough for the 4 of us. 3 of us had the chicken lemon soup which was delicious, just a hint of lemon, and the 4th had a greek salad. We had pork kabobs, chicken kabobs and a shrimp platter. The meat was grilled perfect, yet moist and well seasoned. Each entrée comes with 2 sides. The shrimp was unbelievable — at least 10 — nice size, lightly sautéed. Everyone was very pleased. We will go back again and very soon!

This was our first time here, and we had a good overall experience. As I had not been here since it was Maracas I was pleasantly surprised in the overall décor. It is a very bright, open and welcoming environment. The outdoor patio area looks nice too, but I wouldn’t eat outside along a busy road like US1 but it looks good and I am sure someone will enjoy it. I started off with the chicken rice lemon Greek soup. It was very tasty. I has the lunch special of chicken kabob, rice and Greek salad. Very good price, tasty food and good portions. We had two desserts and they were good. The service was good… which it better be since we were the only table. The server was very nice. I definitely will try again for dinner. Hope this place lasts. the location hasn’t had a god track record.

Only giving this place one star as it’s the only way to write a review! By far the worst Greek place ever to eat! Chicken and lamb was very dry– when asked about how the chicken soulvaki was prepared the owner(I assume) went by the name Steve didn’t know much and was not able to answer my questions. Very Unknowledgeable about the food he was serving. He stood around and continued to pace around making the ambiance very uncomfortable. Serving size was small and Greek salad was soggy. Overall I would not recommend. It’s also awkwardly located and horrible parking. Once the bill arrives the owner also overcharged us and was rude once we spoke up. Avoid this place at all costs There are a few other Greek places close to the area that are much better.

Finally, a Greek restaurant with flavorful food that also offers seafood and steaks. Great spot, just south of Oakland Park Blvd, on Federal Highway, this place also offer outdoor patio seating and skylighted interior seating. Outstanding service and food in a very casual environment. Try the calamari and the greek salad! Wine was great. Live music outstanding.

If I ever saw a restaurant getting off to a bad bumbling start, it’s Black Olive Estiatorio. For weeks they had signs that indicated they were open, but were either still busily at work remodeling and enlarging what they had formerly operated as Ola Greek Restaurant or were locked up tight. The location itself isn’t the best, somewhat confusing, though parking is now by valet, but being adjacent to a hotel and the a graveyard site of what were a number of prior restaurant attempts such as Maracas, a Mexican restaurant that attracted a Wilton Manors following with its popular Margarita Mondays, and sometime prior to that, an Argentinian steakhouse. Black Olive Estiatorio is also located near some pretty stiff Greek competition from nearby Thasos Greek Taverna, being somewhat more upscale but of near equal price, and the ever popular Greek Islands Taverna located on North Ocean Boulevard. The interior of Black Olive Estiatorio is striking in color, design and décor. On that part, they’ve really done a good job of it, rendering it to what is now a good bright cheerful setting of comfortable ambiance. The menu is exceptionally large and pretty much encompasses anything and everything one might desire in Greek cuisine. Unfortunately, however, the staff, though very polite and making every attempt to accommodate, are still somewhat unskilled, uninformed and unacquainted with the restaurants food offerings. I know I inquired about a fish dish and was descriptively informed«It’s a fish.» Duh! I started off my meal with a Caesar salad containing their own homemade dressing. Unfortunately anchovies weren’t an available option for the salad, but I found it to be good, especially with the selection of cheeses blended into it, though nothing exceptional or of memorable note. I then had their grilled octopus appetizer which came in slices of tentacles submerged in olive oil with white onion, which they claim as a seasoning sauce, but had unfortunately absorbed into the octopus sort of killing any char flavor and rendered the flesh texture of the octopus soggy. The breads that were served along with my appetizer and salad were really good as was the black olive spread. Also, my order of wine was of a good pour, full glass. For my entrée I had the scallops, which were of the diver type, nicely seared but like the octopus again submerged and swimming in an olive oil concoction which I guess they likewise consider to be a sauce. However, once again, I found it to be a little much in that it seemingly killed off any charring or searing flavor though I found the portion of the scallop serving impressively good sized and the scallops themselves full of fresh scallop flavor.
