While this bar operates as an average bar and dance club I can’t give this more than one star. The business does not accept out of town IDs. If you are an out-of-towner do not go here. They will not let you in. Having just moved to Fond du Lac from Toledo, Ohio I carry an Ohio and it was going to drivers license. I found out about this policy by handing him my Ohio license. The bouncer at the door says that out-of-town people have caused fights in the past and they no longer allow them to enter. He specifically mentioned«hockey players.» That is ironic, since the Ramada Hotel is across the street. The policy sets a bad example for downtown businesses trying to attract tourist attention. It is a black eye on the city of Fond du Lac when a business turns away someone by profiling them. The business should focus more on security and improving safety. Local people can be just as bad as anyone else. Until they change this policy, I recommend people go elsewhere.

I ended up here twice while staying at the Retlaw for a wedding. Friday night it was busy when we walked in but we found a place to sit. It was a really great mix of people(sports teams, bachelorette party, anyone who wandered in) and everyone seemed to be having a good time. But then service got really slow. I think they were painfully short-staffed. Saturday I went back… and left because they were out of Spotted Cow! How do you run out of beer, any beer, in Wisconsin?!

I grew up in Fond du Lac, and recently came home for my sister’s wedding. Stopped here for pre-dinner drinks. Double bubble, fuck yeah! Nothing special about this place, as far as I could tell. Basic bar setup, standard beers, strong cocktails. Jukebox. Friendly, though slow-ish service. The usual. If someone said to me «hey, I’m gonna be in Fond du Lac for some reason, where should I go?» this is not a place I’d say they need to check out. But then again, what could I possibly recommend?

Schnickelfritz was previously known as Dillinger’s. Dillinger’s was known for overcrowding and poor service — Schnickelfritz is the exact opposite. Fast service, Good Music, Busy but not too busy, Big TVs, Dart Boards, Beer Pong… This place has been picking up since it changed owners. They offer a DJ on Thursday, Friday and Saturday that plays great dance music from different genres and top 40’s. Great Daily Specials, Great Drink Prices, Great Service. Perfect place to stop if you’re from out of town looking for some fun or if you’re from the area… forget about Dillinger’s poor reputation.
