2nd and Charles

Poor customer service and they pay cents for books. I brought in 48 hardcover books and left with $ 18. Not even worth the hassle to drive there, wait an hour and a half, then deal with store associates and mangers that act like they could care less. Typical service for a chain. Go elsewhere!

I love this place despite the negative reviews others have left. There are many books to choose from, they have vinal, cds, dvds, comic books, retro games and consoles; toys, board games, and T-​shirts, you name it. They’ve had deals on dvds, cds, and books. I got a pack of 8 dvds for $ 5! I was really disappointed in how expensive their vinal records are though. Never really had an issue with their customer service and have never had a bad experience.

2^nd & Charles in Fayetteville, NC leaves a lot to be desired… perhaps, the employees – from management to associates – have not yet identified with the concept of «Customer Service». Even worse, they simply do not care. Either way, it’s sad

The store generally carries pretty good finds. However, even though it claims to buy back books, and other items, even if your books are in better condition than theirs, they will give you even less than a gamestore would for games. Even though you purchased $ 60 worth of books and lovingly cared for with little to minimal wear and tear and absolutely no writing in it, (which is more to say than books they actually sell) they will only dish out maybe $ 3 and then turn around and sell your books for triple the price for each book. I’ve seen this done to many a friend of mine as well as myself. Customer service is awful, you get no help when needed and you’re better off buying your books on Amazon. The reason it’s given two stars is the movie section is pretty decent.

I have some complaints about the lack of customer service, but ultimately giving 5 stars because I would encourage anyone who is looking for niche market items like old video game controllers and vinyl records to check this place out.

Second and Charles needs some major help. I love the records section but the used record prices are just crazy. Second as a book store the selection is very hit or miss. There are large gaps in many sections and they seem to focus on kiddie — teen books. Cd selection is lame. They have a gutar section and I don’t really understand why. They are all over priced cheap first act style instruments. In all I have found a total of two books here. Ed McKay and the Trade it stores both beat this store hands down in price, trade in value and service. They did do a great job gluing books together to make the 2^nd n Charles logo. That is all.

On a product side, I like this place. I enjoy their selection and pricing. The problem I have is their customer service. They are extremely terrible in that aspect. On a busy day I waited in line for my turn to realize walking out that I had been double charged. When I walked back inside, I was told to get my refund I would have to wait in the twenty person line I hag just waited in. I work in customer service and in this situation I would have either 1) put me as the next person in line at the register apologizing but getting me my refund or 2) called a manager to do it on one of the empty registers. Nope I had to wait another half an hour just to get my fifteen dollar refund.
I just was in the store again and did my shopping only to get to the register to find out they are only accepting cash. When I asked him why there wasn’t a sign he said «it just went down an hour and a half ago.» That’s plenty of time. I spent thirty minutes in that store to find out at the end I can’t even check out. Terrible customer service. They needed to put a sign on the incoming door as soon as it happened or tell people in the store. Not many people carry enough cash to purchase a large item like that.
I wish they’d get new management here because their associates need some training.

If you like books, don’t mind reading a used book, and want low prices– you’ll like 2^nd and Charles. Books are arranged by type and alphabetically by author. On top of books they have a lot of records, CDs, and fan items. It’s a good place to find something quirky for a fan boy/​girl. The one downfall is it can be hard to find books given that the selection is so random. You need to give yourself some time to browse.

Love this store. It’s in a very convenient location. It’s got a variety of selections. Lots of quirky gifts. Can be a bit pricey at times if the books are newer or in better condition. But overall the store is awesome and fun to browse.

This is a good place to go for your book/​movie/​music/​videogame fix. Huge selection new and used. My problem is that the last time I was in line to check out an employee was mocking the entire group of customers for being «nerdy» and she wasn’t being discrete. Not a big deal to some but it’s left a bad taste in my mouth and haven’t been back in two months and more than likely won’t go back for a while. There’s too many places with good customer service to go to one and get mocked.

Came in looking for a few books and left with more than intended… The staff is very friendly and the books are in good quality and there’s even a bin of free ones outside! I walked out with 6 books for under 30 bucks and a free booklet they were giving out which beats having to splurge at Barnes & Noble any day!

Don’t exchange your books or anything because you will get ripped off! Love the prices of the books and yes I buy books there but I will never exchange my books ever again I will exchange my books at Edward McKays even though there prices suck.
