Food was nothing to write home about. Okay portions, but pricey for what you get. The property is up for sale right now, so I’m thinking they’re slacking on service and quality. I had the buffalo bratwurst which was a little overcooked with sides of sauerkraut, awful candied carrots that tasted like they were cooked in dishwater, summer squash soup, and a baked potato. Husband had the buffalo burger and fries and it was undercooked. The worst part of our dining experience was the pretty awful waitress. It seemed like the other tables all had wonderful, smiling waitresses. No, we got the funky one. Had to ask for menus! REALLY? Had to ask for bread and butter(while other tables had it brought to them right after they sat down. Had to ask her for a straw for my iced tea… had to ask for mustard for my brat(doesn’t everyone have mustard on their brat?) Had to ask her for my soup(twice!). WTH? I really don’t think she wanted to be there, and we definitely wished we had one of the other waitresses. I would never go here again… maybe it was a great place once, but not anymore. Go somewhere else… there’s lots better restaurants in town.

We have eaten at Sundeck Restaurant for several years running when visiting Estes Park and RMNP. We fondly remembered excellent breakfasts and dinners I. Still in a great setting and convenient location to the park, but we were hugely disappointed with our dinner most recently. We arrived just ahead of the weekend evening crowd, so can’t blame execution of dinner on being too busy for cooks to keep up. Only ¼ of tables had patrons seated. Our table ordered the avocado dip appetizer and it was enjoyed by all. For dinner, our group ordered wiener schnitzel, a teriyaki tenderloin skewer, and a broiled trout. The trout and associated vegetables were very good. However, the wiener schnitzel was way past dried out and the teriyaki tenderloin was near raw. I don’t mind paying north of $ 20 for pork if it is original and cooked well, but this was shoe leather and tasted pre-made. The quality of beef tenderloin was good, but you had to like your meat blue. The various veggies were good — asparagus, new potatoes, sweet potato fries. The waiter was great, and I enjoyed talking with the nice ladies at the cash register, but we won’t go back unless we hear of the hiring of a new cook. So sorry to see the landmark establishment decline.

Would get 3 starts because, while the menu is amazingly broad, the food is so-so. Extra star because the servers and hosts/esses are super nice. And I almost gave it 5 stars just because the pie is AWESOME. Went back for more pie later.

The four of us visited the Sundeck by default for dinner in the peak of the summer season. The other half dozen restaurants we had selected were packed from bar stools to parking lot so we tried the place solely because there was a parking spot. We were seated immediately, drink orders taken and filled promptly and the menu explained, to a point, by our server. We had chef salads, enchiladas and a serving of chile rellenos that was billed as delicious. The salads were very good, the enchiladas were rated highly and the rellenos were absolutely scorching. The small peppers were hot to the point of inedibility(is there such a word?). A dessert of a small mountain of rainbow sherbet topped with whipped cream and a strawberry was very tasted. Overall a very efficient, friendly and tasty place… just keep away from the c.r.

They had good service even being understaffed. Very friendly and nice eating environment. Very overpriced for what you get. Food was ok. Will not go back just because of price.

We were heading into town for lunch when traffic caused us to turn around and find this gem. Food was above average and staff was incredibly nice and attentive. Highly recommend!

If you want to go back to a small town comfort food place, this is it. Pine siding and pine table and chairs make it quaint and casual. I tried the homemade corn chowder, flavorful but not thick with cream as you get in many other places. The Cajun chicken salad was tasty served with cranberries and Blanched almonds on the side, a nice touch to an already great salad. I wanted to try their pies as I heard the waitress say they were out of of couple, but honestly, I was too full to eat anymore.

First time eating here was yesterday. Service was great, food was great. I had the breaded pork tenderloin with onion rings and fresh fruit. A nice plate of fruit, watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, grapes, the tenderloin was served with some cinnamon apples, really tasty. Also two nice warm rolls with butter… the onion rings were wonderful, pretty sure they bread everything there, not frozen dumped in oil… will definitely go back here again.

This is a great local restaurant with local people as well as tourists. The waiter and waitress were great. Yes, we went there on 3 separate days for breakfast. The food was great and the atmosphere was great as well.

Solid 3 stars. Completely unassuming modest restaurant that has been in business for 66 years! Imagine my surprise finding a new old restaurant here! It is tucked in an odd corner near the south entrance of the park. Nestled with a beautiful deck in the aspens on the terrace, you can see why it’s called Sundeck. We came in with no expectations and a certificate a friend had given me. The Décor was old-Timey wood paneling with gingham curtains and mining and ski town artifacts on the walls. A little old-fashioned but also fun. Bedecked in vinyl tablecloths, this is definitely a place for the family and would not be considered high dining. Casual dining at its best! We had the most friendly and service oriented waitress, Natasha. We all looked at the incredibly large and diverse menu for quite some time before ordering. The family tried the avocado dip appetizer, the house salad with raspberry vinaigrette, fried honey fried chicken, the enchilada plate, and the shrimp platter. The salad for me was one of those rare exceptions where the lettuce was supremely clean and fresh and perfectly crisp. I actually don’t know how lettuce is in that perfect of a condition and I love it when I find it this way. Was a delicious salad– kudos! The fried chicken was served piping hot and perfectly crisp and was an absolute treat. It was served with yucky soggy mayonnaisey coleslaw and weirdly, cranberry sauce. While the accompaniments were little strange, the fried chicken was amazing. The shrimp platter was served with exactly 3 shrimp and a baked potato and some veggies. The diner was okay with the small amount of shrimp, but I would’ve wanted more! The enchilada platter was quite large with three very large flour tortilla-based enchiladas covered in sauce and cheese. We brought a large portion of that home with us. The avocado dip was only so-so and tasted like something prepackaged with a little avocado mixed in for good sport. A little pasty. Finally, I looked around the restaurant which was pretty full at about 6PM on a Sunday evening, and I noticed that every age demographic was represented and every single table tucked into their food like they hadn’t eaten in years. So, it’s comfort food served hot, a few weird flourishes like the cranberry sauce, but consistent and pleasant. I would go back for that fried chicken and another salad. And, they honored the certificate no problem.

This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. We were greeted by the two nicest ladies, one of which carried on a conversation with us and checked on us during our meal. I ordered the prime rib and my friend ordered the New York Strip both medium and both we’re cooked to perfection. Adult beverages were reasonably priced as well. The atmosphere is great and exactly what you’re looking for in this quintessential mountain town.

When we got to the restaurant I was really hoping the food would be good because the place was so adorable and the views were so great. I wanted this to be a place I’d want to go to again. Luckily the food was great. We got trout and a sirloin. Both were delicious. Service was ok. I was sort of surprised we had to keep waving at our waiter to get water since we were his only table, but the food and ambiance were so nice it didn’t matter. We’ll definitely go here again!

This restaurant was A-OK for Estes Park. We stayed across the street so this ended up being the only restaurant we visited twice during our week in town. We went once for breakfast and once for dinner. I had chicken rice soup and a salad for dinner and for breakfast I had eggs and home fries. The food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t really good either. If the food had been cheaper I would have given this place another star.

This was our last meal in Estes Park. If we would have come earlier in our stay we might have eaten here several times. The looks of the place kept me from coming, but I now regret not coming in sooner. We came for breakfast. I had the breakfast trout, which was fantastic! You have the option of having it filleted in the kitchen or at the table. Are you kidding? With kids that one was a no-brainer. Our waitress deftly performed this maneuver with three hungry kids watching attentively. My wife had the smoked salmon with capers and red onion. The kids had eggs with toast. What really caught our eye was the lunch and dinner menu. Lots of variety and they all looked good. Mini crab cakes with raspberry chipoltle sauce. Veggie burgers. More trout. Some kind of goulash. And some really tasty sounding Mexican items. They even have a local microbrew on tap. I think there is something for everyone here, and if they are as solid as the breakfast was, this is a place to not pass by.

Great local place with beautiful scenery and views. Ordered the fresh trout for lunch and mixed berry pie a la mode for dessert. Guuud! Best way to start any journey through the Rocky Mountains.

I’m visiting friends in Estes Park and we decided to go to Sundeck Restaurant. It’s a very nice place with a cozy atmosphere. I had gone to this exact place about 10 years earlier and ordered the best potato soup I’ve ever had in my entire life. I remember I got a kids menu and was able to color on it and it was probably one of the greatest Colorado memories ever! This time I decided to get the cream of asparagus soup because potato soup wasn’t an option. Sadly, it was pretty bland. I added salt and pepper to spice it up a bit and that did the trick, but really, it wasn’t too great. For the entre I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich. It took a reaaaaalllllly long time for the food to come out. They were kind of busy though. But when it did the bun was oh-so-pretty! It was perfectly crispy and the inside was nice and warm and it was so buttery and lovely. It was quite rich for me, but very very good. The chicken was cooked nicely and tasted good as well. The people who ordered the trout liked it a lot, and everyone else finished their meals(I took photos of all of them). So I’d say the visit was a success!
