Food was delicious and our server was great. The tableside guac was delicious. It was such an experience to see it made in front of you. You can pick and choose what you want in it and the hotness of it. We chose medium and it was just right. Highly recommend the San Jose burrito. The queso on top really topped off the burrito. Will be back.

Great drinks and good food. Only problem is the service is horrible. Waitress took about 20 minutes to even take our order on a slow Sunday.

Don’t leave here without getting a flagarita. I don’t care that it is $ 20. It is so worth it. I’m a pretty regular drinker and I was practically wasted after I finished it even though I had already eaten my meal. This is really more of a 4 star place, but I felt it’s current barely 3 star review is unfair. Our waiter was absolutely adorable and attentive. I’m super picky and annoying(I tip well to make up for it — don’t judge me) and he helped me pick out something I would like and made sure it was cooked properly. Food was just as great as any other chain Mexican food place. The other reviews are just too harsh.

Pretty bad when«On the Border» has more flavor. This was my first and last time here. The bathrooms must have been backed up, it stunk inside. Very tacky décor. The drinks were just ok(zorro and a house frozen: zorro is sangria and some sauza, house had a phony lime taste). Quesadilla veracruz, one of each: Beef and chicken. The beef was lean, not much flavor but I preferred it over the chicken which tasted like the chicken was boiled in Campbell’s Soup. Rice had no flavor. Food temp was barely warm. Salad had a lot of chicken but my mate said it was rubbery. And the dressing tasted like Ken’s(raspberry) salad dressing. We got a flan, it was too stiff, lacked egg flavor, and the caramel sauce was obviously put on afterwards from a bottle. $ 52 total & $ 8 tip for unfriendly barely attentive service. Hint: go to Serapes if you’re in the Enfield area or Rancho Viejo in Granby.

Pros– nice atmosphere, hostess was friendly and the guacamole service is neat Cons– nothing had any taste– rice was like mush-literally, chicken had no seasoning and everything had very little flavor and was very bland. Mexican food should be anything but bland! When I told the waitress I was not happy with my food I was interrogated by the manager as to why I did not like it when I simply said it did not taste good. Perhaps he was trying to find out what was wrong so he could fix it, as a good manager should do, but he was not polite and made me feel badly for speaking up. They were not friendly in my experience so will not be returning to try something else. I would recommend on the border in west Springfield to anyone looking for a cozy Mexican restaurant. It may be a bit further if your from the area but I have never had a bad experience there. Won’t be trying anything new again anytime soon!

Went there recently and it’s a very big restaurant! Never trouble getting a table and not because the food is bad. Some people just are afraid of the word Mexican food. I enjoyed my spinach chicken enchiladas. Great sauce and very flavorful! My friend also enjoyed his meal and they had plenty that was gluten free for him with is diet restrictions. Also had good experiences here other times I have been there. Great On the rocks margaritas and 3 sizes of beers. The large gives you a workout with the big mug they give you! They always have a special on beer for pretty cheap prices. We sat at the bar to watch the Bruins game. Very enjoyable experience and my Bruins won too! I would definitely go back there again.

Horrible. We’ve eaten at many of the Azteca restaurants, from Virginia on up. The Manchester location was amazing. Right off the bat, the tortilla chips were over done, the guacamole tastes more like like than anything. My Super Mix was like warm, so it must have been sitting awhile. My kids tacos were seasoned with a very plain seasoning. And my wife’s fajita salad was a VERY fatty sliced steak over lettuce. Waitress was good and was the only positive part of this place. On The Border is our normal place and we will stick with that

I was looking forward to the table side guac more than anything and unfortunately it wasn’t my favorite. The Manchester location never disappoints. The food was good. The service was a bit of a mess. Our waitress was all over the place and then she charged my card twice and had to void one to charge the right amount. She took awhile to figure it all out. Overall it everything was just okay. I prefer the Manchester location.

I had been here once before with my family, and I found it lacking compared to some other local Mexican options. On this visit, I brought my co-blogger, Princess, and found some redemption. To start, it was lunchtime, and the food was good. Not great, but good. I had spinach enchiladas, while she opted for a quesadilla. I lived in Phoenix for 7 years, and have been to Mexico at least two dozen times… my spanish language skills are«un pequito», but I know authentic Mexican food when I taste it. The ingredients seemed either frozen, or mass produced. Maybe both. My biggest complaint was with Mexican food, I expect tortillas to be home made! Ours were soggy and indicative of a Sysco truck rolling up every week or so. The flavors in both dishes came together satisfactorily, but nothing mind blowing. The atmosphere is different. I used to be a regular of the restaurant there prior. A total(and probably expensive) overhaul was done, but seems a bit gaudy to me. It reminds me of Chichen-Itza ruins down by Cancun. And, there are some crazy neon lights. It seems so much effort has been put into making you feel you are in a remote part of Mexico. In reality, you’re in northern Connecticut without the authenticity and flavors of legit Mexican food. The service was great. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was prompt. My cohort loves wine — as our blog suggests — and she felt her red wine was a bit vinegar like. There was no hesitation whatsoever getting another glass from a freshly opened bottle. She was also prompt with everything else(chips, salsa, refills, check, etc.)

I’m from Southern California where authentic Mexican food is usually within walking(or reasonable driving) distance from wherever you happen to be standing. This might explain why, thus far, I’ve found only one Mexican restaurant that I can frequent in the Greater Hartford region. Plaza Azteca is most definitely not it. Friends raved about Plaza Azteca, so much so that they offered to take me to lunch there recently. When we arrived(around 12:30 p.m.), we entered a large empty waiting area. This should have been my first clue. Within 15 minutes, we were finally greeted and shown to our table. I was really surprised how big the restaurant appeared. After taking us around the bar area, a large dining area, and then down a smaller dining area, we were seated somewhere in the back of the restaurant where there was at least one other group having lunch. Both friends raved about the corn soup, so they each ordered it as an appetizer. I stuck with the complimentary chips and salsa, which I have to say was actually very good. The chips were still warm, and all in all, very tasty. The salsa seemed to be fresh as well; it didn’t have much spice, but it tasted citrusy and bright. So far so good– — and the fact that both my friends appeared to be in food heaven as they happily had their corn soups was also a good sign. Our server was friendly and not overly solicitous; he clearly wanted us to be comfortable and to enjoy our lunch. I ordered the cochinita pibil, which in all its forms is essentially slow-roasted pork. Plaza Azteca’s version is to encase it with rice and beans in a large flour tortilla, topped off with what appeared to be nacho cheese and sour cream. I don’t know where to begin, except to say, I would have happily eaten a burrito from Taco Bell over Plaza Azteca’s conchinita pipil. Not only was the dish cold(cold to the point of almost being congealed), but the cheese and cream topping was overly salty and just, gosh, I am really without words, as I don’t even like the memory of having had this dish. To make matters worse, the dish was huge(about the size of my forearm) — and I had to pretend to enjoy it, all the while swirling my fork in the congealed pork, as my friends eagerly looked on, waiting for my expression of approval. I don’t enjoy writing bad reviews — but I enjoyed, even less, the dining experience that I had at Plaza Azteca. I will not be returning, even if well-intentioned friends offer to pick up the tab again. My only consolation is the two friends who took me to this restaurant don’t Unilocal.I wouldn’t want them to know how bad the experience was for me – but, I think they secretly knew by my expression, and how I barely touched the food on my plate. There was, however, one other silver lining to the experience(other than the chips and salsa, and good service). We ordered dessert and the three of us shared the berry white cheesecake, which was excellent. Not sure if Azteca Plaza bakes their own desserts, however. The two stars are due to the good chips/salsa, excellent berry white cheesecake, and the friendly service. If I could add half a star, I would — just because my friends obviously enjoyed their corn soup — but overall, Plaza Azteca, to me, is most definitely a two-star restaurant.

If you want authentic Mexican food, this is the place. The food was amazing. The ambience is outstanding. Nothing I have tasted has yet to be disappointing and it is all seasoned properly. The wait staff was always there ready to serve us. Frank the Tank our server and yes that is what his name tag says, was amazing and went the extra mile.

We went here for a girl’s night out on a Thursday, not realized there was karaōke. While, it’s not really our thing, we had a blast listening & were entertained. None of the four of us had been here before, so we thought we’d give it a shot. My 3 stars is attributed to the following: 1) The ambiance & décor were awesome! It’s amazing what you can achieve when paying attention to detail! 2) The food and drinks — meh… None of us really loved our entrees, though I can’t say we didn’t eat them. Two of us got a burrito, one quesadilla, and one person got the 5 enchilada meal. We also started with the cheese dip. We all split the flan for dessert, which was by far the best part of the meal. Food-wise I’d say 2 stars max 3) The service was the savior of this night out! Our waitress was very attentive, and we were checked on often without being hovered over. She was very personable & made valid recommendations. Plaza Azteca has a true gem here, as she even tried to up-sell a couple times without us feeling pressured. We all agreed we loved her when we got back to the car!

The place has a really cool look and good beer selection. I wasn’t thrilled with the overpriced food however. I had the chicken mole for $ 16 and it was a small dish that had an average mole sauce. I’m not sure if the chicken was supposed to be boneless, but I was picking small ones out of every other bite. If you want good Mexican, friendly service and good prices I would recommend going across the street to Acapulcos instead. Glad I tried the Plaza but won’t be going back.

I know this isn’t the MOST authentic Mexican place around but with that being said I still really like this place. It has a menu with a lot of variety. Everything I’ve tried has been tasty and nicely presented. The booths are so comfortable and inviting. The bar is great too. A perfect place to meet up with someone for a drink or meet and greet.

Very nice restaurant! The ambiance is truly original and makes you feel as if you’re in Mexico. –You know what I mean. I was informed that they are under new management so this review reflects the new management. I ordered a chicken burrito. It was filled with beans, chicken, Mexican sausage, rice and it was smothered in queso. It was really good! However the sausage confused me. The meal came with chips and salsa!- Very tastey I squeaked in for happy hour and bought a 22oz any draft for 5 bucks. –That’s reasonable. Overall they restaurant was nice. The meal was great and I felt that the prices were fair. Will go There again next time I’m in town.

Grabbed a quick lunch while we were out in Enfield running errands. We were seated promptly in one of those awkward half circle seats that are just plain uncomfortable. Our waitress was friendly, but really didn’t know the menu or anything about Mexican food in general. The chips & salsa were nice but not memorable. Our meals came out in minutes which can be a clear harbinger of doom. I had the El Paisano which came with grilled chicken breast, shrimp & grilled veggies with sides of rice & beans. The shrimp & veggies were nicely sautéed. The chicken, cutlet style, was like a fine boot leather… not easy to cut. Clearly cooked earlier & nuked. The rice was blah. The beans were served military style… slop on the plate. The dish was served with a buttery cheesy sauce that was very salty. If you blindfolded me & brought me here, not one thing on my plate cried Mexican food. All salt, no flavor. My husband had the Steak Mexicano which is essentially what I had but with a grilled rib eye. What a sad, little steak it was. No way that was rib eye! And again tough, hard to chew, dry… clearly microwaved. No seasoning other than salt. Barely any grilled veggies but half a plate of evil bean goo & bland rice encroaching on the«steak» area. At about $ 15 per entrée, the quality & quantity rots. Fortunately between Enfield & Springfield, there are lots of Mexican spots to try so I’ll keep trying.
