The 2016 Unilocal 500, Review #152:
Both times I have been here it has been a ghost town. I don’t get it. The reviews were awesome but, who am I to complain. I recommend sitting outside, it is always easy to get a table there.. Plenty of fresh air and elbow room. Can’t comment on the indoor seating though, as I have yet to dine inside. Menu was created with success in mind but, even with a creative menu you can’t keep everyone happy. Maybe that is why the chip rack up front always needs loading.

If you are craving instant ramen then order the vegetable ramen from their menu. You will get instant noodles with the msg powder and some sliced carrots, jalapeño and little bit of cabbage. I couldn’t believe my eyes when they served it to me. No wonder there was nobody else in this place while the next door Cuban place had a line all the way to the parking structure.

I like a place that’s reasonably priced with great food. The food and appetizers are delicious and the prices are fair. It’s a night place to snack before going into the theater which is right next door. I recommend it!

The food was very delicious! Freshly made, good portions & great price. I had the sesame chicken and it was delicious! They had other choices I really want to try next time I come by. Decent indoor and outside seating. I will definitely be coming back to eat here again & def. recommend it to others.

So I just chowed down on some chicken ramen noodles and it was pretty good. Not gonna lie I would go back and get it again. I saw the menu and there’s some things I want to try. You can tell it’s a mom and pop shop for that I want support it more.
Go to the movies eat something here and go. I doubt you’ll be disappointed. And if you are disappointed then you just waaaaaay to picky.

This place was really disappointing after reading the Unilocal reviews. First of all, apparently they are no longer serving sushi — in fact I think the only fish they had was the fish tacos. They had temporary new menus so forget what we thought we were going to order. Several in our lunch group had been looking forward to the poke. No poke, no tuna bowl. The waitress talked about the fish tacos being great with some kind of expensive fish. 3 of us ordered the tacos and they are small, but even worse they have a piece of fish about the size of a French fry on each taco. Seriously, it’s a cabbage taco. I did like the taste of the cabbage and sauce — more fish would have made it much better. One person ordered the Pork ramen and said he could make the same at home, using a Maruchan package. Also it was supposed to be medium spicy but wasn’t spicy at all. One person ordered the Sesame Chicken which came with rice and she said it was good. So one out of five happy diners. They need to change the name to Kai Chicken & Grill. Lots of chicken on the menu including gizzards and feet.
Also, maybe this is a good thing, but the waitress gave me $ 17.79 in change when I gave her a $ 20. I ordered $ 5.23 in food. We won’t be back.

I believe a business should be open regular business hours as posted. Went in at 9:54pm on a Friday («busy day») to try out for the first time, and they decided to close early. Might give them one more shot. They gotta be careful in this particular location, there is always a turn around. Customer service is the key. We just went to Ichiban sushi across the street.

Delicious

This is my new favorite spot when I’m in Downey visiting my husband at work. We ordered spicy chicken kabobs and spicy tuna roll. My husband is not that crazy for sushi like i am so it was great that he ordered something he really liked and so did i. It’s walking distance from his work which is a plus for us. Our kids liked it to. Service was not the best.

The food was great! I had the tiger roll sushi, the sesame chicken, and salmon plate and they were all delicious! The service was pretty good and the waitress we had was very nice and attentive.
NOTE: If you know about the previous restaurant that was here, you know that the place looked dingy and that their food was awful. That’s why I was hesitant to go in at first. But don’t let that prevent you from walking into Kai fish & Grill and enjoying their delicious menu.

It was my first time coming to this restaurant & I must say, the fish tacos were so exquisite. I definitely recommend coming to this spot.: D

I was craving a spicy tuna bowl and figured I would try this place thanks to the positive reviews! I ordered the Spicy Tuna Bowl and added Salmon in it as well. My friend got the fish tacos and wow it was pretty big!
Spicy Tuna Bowl:
I loved this and btw this is the first time I ordered a spicy tuna bowl! lol It came with avocado slices, a greens salad with a ponzo dressing. It also had a pickled veggie but for the life of me I couldn’t figure out what it was! And oh it also came with a scoop of rice.
I would come here again just to try the fish tacos, since I didn’t really try them. (I was too concentrated on my bowl) :P

Excellent quality. Fresh sushi grade fish. Seared ahi salad great!
They always give you a little dessert treat!

This place is terrible!!! Ordered 2 burgers and it took 30 minutes to get it. I asked for no sauce on my burger. There was sauce. After some back and forth, the girl was nice and apologetic. She said they would make a new burger. It took them about 10 mins. Not sure if it was a fresh burger, but whatever. Not a lot of flavor. My bf asked for a refill and they charge for that!!! So ridiculous, and she brought him the wrong drink. I’m over this place, won’t be coming back.

Second day in a row that we get lunch from here it’s amazing the fish tacos are so good fresh and crunching and huge… Also we ordered some fried zucchini crunchy and not oily. Mmm… The owner is such a sweetheart and goes out of his way to make sure that everything is right. One of my favorite places for lunch now. Can’t wait to try more things from the menu.

Ordered the Tuna Poke Bowl and my God was it delicious!!! Service was fast and the staff is so nice and attentive! Highly recommended!

I came here and I ordered the Sesame Chicken plate,
and everything was excellent, except for the rice.
The chicken, the spam musbubi, the soup, the pot stickers and egg rolls were excellent.
I don’t know what happened to that rice, it was mushy and bland.
But over all I enjoyed the food
and I will be returning.
I think Ill try the burgers next time.
The sweet potato fries look great too!

I really hope everyone else thinks this place is as good as I think it is because I don’t want to see it go out of business! First time I went I wasn’t very hungry so I had the fried zucchini and they have is mozzarella sticks for free as a thank you for being a guest on their first day of opening. Second time I tried the fibs tacos which were delicious! It’s so hard to find good fish tacos because I compare them to my moms and they were pretty damn close. I also had the spicy chicken kabobs which were cooked very nicely, very tender and juicy and spicy!
The owner is really nice and humble I hope his business does well because his food deserves to be noticed.

Let me start off by saying I am obsessed with this place! I have never had such high quality tasting food. Everything this restaurant has to offer is superb! I am in love with the poke tuna bowl! If you are a sushi lover, this plate will blow you away! It is made with the freshest ingredients words can’t even describe how delicious it is, you will just have to go and taste it for yourself!

Let me just say BOMB BOMB BOMB!!! This place was really good. Great food and not expensive. Awsome customer service. The waitress was a sweet heart her name is Irene. I recommend this place. And its safe to say we will be coming back really soon.
