We enjoyed a very nice evening at Wright & Co. We sat at the bar and received amazing service from Thomas our bartender. The food was very very good and we are happy that Detroit has this new and vibrant restaurant. There are two shortcomings that should be noted: Due to the popularity of the restaurant it was a crowded evening with patrons congregating between the bar and seating area. I noticed people sitting at tables adjacent to the bar had to lean in to avoid contact with the standing bar crowd. I was happy we were sitting at the bar rather than at a table. W&C could consider having a dedicated place for bar patrons to gather so not to detract from the dining experience. Also, you cannot make a reservation so if you are planning to attend a downtown event this may not be the right place unless you get there early. Overall a great place with an interesting bar experience and great food!!!

1. The Location: The trick to this place, is finding it. If you have not already been there, skip all the nice pics of their food and find the pic of their LOGO. The LOGO is key to finding this place. When on John R headed toward Woodward, on the right side of the street, in front of the door is an A frame street sign with their LOGO and«second floor’. Stop, you have arrived! Valet will meet you. note: if you miss the sign, this place is on the second floor above John Varvatos. 2. The Environment: I really liked the atmosphere of this place, with polished tin ceilings, and old world pulley style fans keep this cool place cool. Was loud as expected, the place was packed, but we could still ‘conversate’ through out dinner. The servers were on the ball through out our visit, top notch. If you need to make a pitstop during your stay, rest assured, you will return to an organized place setting with a fresh fold on your napkin. 3. The Fare: The Tuna Tartare was very tasty The Sriracha Chicken Skewers were good, but barely a hint of Sriracha, if you are into the hot stuff. The OXTAIL was incredible. Order two and a side of Sriracha! The Salmon was over done, & dry for our taste, but still had great flavor. I would request it to be prepared rare or maybe medium rare next time. An overall a great experience in the D!

I have been here a few times, spread out. Each time the cocktail menu was different. On one hand it was cool to see the drinks change with the seasons, on the other I fell in love with a fall cocktail they made that is gone. Never been disappointed though, with many options and their willingness to try anything new you request. The food is on another level though. With many small plates to choose from, I highly recommend the potato chips. It’s an amazing experience, with the location, building and selection. They don’t take reservations, but I’ve never had to wait. So make sure to check it out when in Detroit looking for a cocktail. They are the best in Detroit, in my opinion.

I seriously fucking love this place. First, the area is super great. It’s safe, well-lit, off a major road and buildings got a Manhattan vibe to them. The entrance is super cool too. You enter through a back alley, and go up the stairs. The food comes in small portions, like tapas style, but I would order 2x the amount of ppl U are–(we were 4 ppl, ordered 7 – 8 items). Was perfect. The food… So two of their dishes were SOGOOD: the sriracha chicken and the pasta. I really enjoyed the flavor of the avocado crab toast too. I only take off one star because the steak isn’t very good, and it came out cold. Last but certainly not least, they play the best mix of 90s grunge, late 80s punk and alternative, and early 2000s alternative rock. Anything from the cure to yeah yeah yeahs. Loved that part so much! Can’t wait to come back and try the drink menu.

Definitely your typical hip local venue that everyone is trying to get into on the weekends at any hour. I’ve stopped by a few times, hopeful that we’ll snag seats at the bar, but I’ve only gotten lucky once and it was because I was flying solo. It gets pretty hot inside during the summer and winter, although it’s worth the mild suffering. Drinks are strong and flavorful and the service is great. I’ll definitely keep trying my chances and maybe even try some of their culinary delights.

The staff was all attentive, polite, and helpful. Drinks and food was served promptly. Silverware was cleared inconspicuously. And the bill was fair, if not favorable. The cocktails we had were quite delicious. We ordered the Fall Old Fashioned and the Horace’s Revenge. I recommend both for sure. Overall, the plates we got were delectable. The dates were spot on, perhaps the Gorgonzola could have been crumbled a bit more. The pasta was tasty and satisfying. The braised ox tail felt like a familiar warm winter dish that you’ve never had(unless you’ve had ox tail before). The only issue is that this place is a little difficult to find when you’re on the street. They could use a sign or something. I guess it makes you feel cool to be in a semi-secret place with no sign… But I’d rather have an easier time finding your door. But inside has a good vibe. The furniture looks classy and new though bordering on cliché. The ceiling fans they have run on a unique system of gears and chains that had me staring up to figure it out for a bit. It feels a little cramped and the chandeliers are a bit odd. But all together this place is great and I would recommend it.

What a phenomenal dining experience. From the drinks to the food, everything about wright & co is «just right». If you don’t order their dates you have committed a sin. Ask the waitstaff for their recommendations, they are extremely knowledgable. A certain gin & ginger cocktail will be your fav(not on the menu). Also dont be scared to spend 15 $ on a glass of wine. It was well worth it.

So this is a great place! So great they need more space. It was full when we were there, not uncomfortable but tight fit. We had everything on the menu except the salmon and all of it was great. But, I have a favorite the CHIPS! It is like chip nachos! Heavenly! I need to add that I am a Chardonnay snob and was kinda sad, mad, hurt, surprised !? There is not a Chardonnay on the menu. I did survive though. The bartender gave me a great glass(x3) of white that I enjoyed. Great cocktail menu but nothing mainstream.

Not bad, but not the best. I loved the drinks — had a dillinger’s broom and horace’s revenge and both were really good. the food was okay. my friend and i had the dates and potato chips, tuna tartare, and the oxtail gnocchi. the dates and chips were good, but not that interesting. Felt like I could have gotten the chips at any bar and I think I’ve had better dates at Spanish-type places before. The tuna tartare was good, usually can’t go wrong if a place is making it right. The oxtail was decent but super super salty. The texture on the gnochhi was good and squishy and the meat was deliciously tender — just wish it wasn’t so oversalted. We had butterscotch pudding for dessert and it was a highlight! If I came again, I’d come for drinks and desserts since that’s where they seemed to shine for me. The space is nice for occasions too. If someone wanted to celebrate something there, I’d be down too, because it’s a nice atmosphere with big windows and hip, ambient lighting. Oh and service is good.

I ate here last night for the second time. I enjoyed both experiences, sat at the bar both times, and had the same bartender. So here goes for my review. Last night we arrived around 6:45’ish and it was already crowded. The bar was full. We put our names in and decided to wait out the 45 min wait. While deciding on whether or not to grab a drink, who we thought was a roving bartender swooped over to ask if we wanted a drink while we waited. Why, yes! of course we would we said. Turns out he was a manager pitching in to help make everyone comfy and take good care of folks, which he did. We ordered up our drinks, and settled in. I ordered a Negroni as an apéritif, and they made it in the traditional Italian style – equal parts gin, vermouth, and compari. Perfect way to get started. Two seats opened at the bar, and we made a b-line for them! Next up, I ordered the classic, old-time cocktail call the Aviation. Look it up and you’ll see it’s got unusual ingredients in it. And they’re hard to find in most restaurants. But not here. Not only did they have the stuff to make it, but the bartender made it great. Woot! Let’s move on to the food… Roasted cashews: excellent Potato chips with white cheddar cheese, bacon, and scallions: they look like nachos but made with chips: excellent Roasted beets: tri-color arrangement of beets, really tasty, and pretty on the plate Ditalini pasta: served in a small cast iron dish, nice and hot, quite tasty, very filling, very rich Tuna tartare: yummy, fresh. On a prior visit I also ate the charcuterie and cheese platter, and the crisp gulf shrimp – both were excellent. Dessert: TBD, didn’t get any yet, but will have to try some day. No room in the belly :) Now, let’s move on to the wine list– So much to choose from! Lots of choices, ask to sample a couple of by the glass options before ordering and no problem, they were happy to do it. Great selection, even on the bubblies… which is nice. Service: As I said, one of the managers took great care of us when we walked in the door to grab us some drinks. The two bartenders taking care of us did a great job. They’re good at what they do, the provided great service, explained the food items when we had questions, and best of all, we both gave the one bartender free rein to come up with his own drinks for us based on a few criteria we offered, and he did a great job with his imagination to create a couple of unique cocktails for us. That was really cool. Best of all, they were really good! Price: For our food noted above, 3 cocktails each, and one glass of wine each, our bill was $ 125. So about $ 50 worth of food, and about $ 70 worth of drinks ;) Ambience: This place is really cool. I love the décor, the tin ceiling, but my favorite part of the décor are the thin bladed fans that harken back to a time decades ago. They spin at a very slow speed down the middle of the restaurant, and they run belt-drive. You’d have to see it to see what I mean. So if you go, be sure to check out the belt-driven fans. A very cool touch to the industrial, loft-like atmosphere. The only thing I would add as a suggestion is a few more items on the menu that are a tad lighter and not as heavy. Check out the menu online and you’ll see what I mean. We left with full bellies and happy memories. I’m a fan, and will definitely go back again.

I really like the Siracha chicken skewers(even if it had zero spice) and the potato chips. It was all small plates at a big city price but it didn’t have that big city flare. The food was pretty decent but this place may not make it in a more foodie town. What’s up with the super loud music? You have to basically scream at the person across the table from you so it seemed like the restaurant was trying too hard to be hip. I would go here again, if and ONLYIF, there was a 5 minutes or less wait and I’m not in the mood to talk. Anything more isn’t worth it.

The only thing I’ll say about this place is that I came to Detroit to go to Noël Night, and after committing to the(Oh so long) wait in line at Wright & Co., my entire evening’s plans changed. I’ve been having great luck with Detroit restaurants lately, and the string of hits keeps on going. This was by far one of the best meals I had in 2015, and I only sampled half of the menu. When I get the nerve to wait in line again(hopefully not so long next time), I’ll definitely go for the other half of the menu. Everything, and I do mean everything, was amazing and delicious. They even found a way to make seemingly boring chicken skewers come to life in the most juicy and tangy way. My favorite had to be the popcorn shrimp, which was at first unassuming but came with so much natural flavor and an amazing sauce to accompany that I had to start planning my return to this place. If you have some time downtown, you absolutely cannot miss going here!

Cool place with a good and interesting menu, but there were a few things that were a little off. Each of the dishes seemed like it needed some fine tuning: the seasoning on the beets was a little weird, the toast over powered the chicken liver moouse, and I couldn’t really taste the avocado on the avocado toast – though that was partly due to a very generous portion of crab. Portions were all good overall, and the prices were too. We ate at the bar, and the bartender wasn’t great. Kind of disinterested and disengaged.

Been meaning to come check this place out for quite some time and I finally had the opportunity on Saturday. We were sure to get there early as I know that it fills up quickly. We rolled in at about 10 minutes after opening. The place was already jammed, but we didn’t have to wait for a table, so that was nice. Service was prompt, friendly, and spot-on all night. I tend to chug the water and my glass never made it to the bottom all evening — an impressive feat. The menu is small, but varied. Not a ton of options in the food department, but what they do, they do extremely well. Plus, there’s nothing more frustrating than thumbing through a novel of a menu, seeing 20 things you want to try and having to roll the dice on one. This place is all about sharing, and share we did. We tried the Roasted Cashews, the Chicken Skewers, and the Pork Tenderloin. Everything was top-notch. The wine by the glass is in the $ 12 – 15 range for the most part. They have an extensive list. If you’re imbibing, it can get pricey quickly. Overall… this is a great place to start an evening with a couple small plates and drinks. If you spend an extended amount of time here(and you’re drinking), I could see the tab getting out of control pretty easily.

Came here for drinks before my rehearsal dinner with my bridesmaids and some girlfriends. We had to order food to get a table, but we thought it would be worth it for the lovely little corner table where we could all talk to each other. Place was hopping on a Friday evening at 6:30, if you can make a reservation you had better do it! Drinks here are not cheap, their cheapest bottle of bubbles was $ 56 champagne(no prosecco!), so it’s spendy, but then again we had a lovely view from an upper floor at a lovely table, drinking nice champagne, so I suppose that’s all fine in the end! Small plates were expensive for small portions also. We appreciated how our server explained the gluten-free options for one of my friends. We enjoyed the dates with bacon, gorgonzola, and almonds, and the burrata, and the charcuterie and cheese platter. The preparation was elegant, the flavors merged excellently together, and I’d highly recommend all those dishes. Service was slow, but friendly. Good place for a classy, elegant, leisurely night out. I was sorry we had to leave in a hurry to get to our party, but I like seeing fun, stylish places like this in Detroit!

I’ve been here a few times and hadn’t been blown away, but after my dinner the other night I’m sold. Drinks are always great and the presentation is really beautiful. In the heirloom caprese, the ingredients were really fresh and it was nice to have one last delicious heirloom tomato before they’re gone for the year The snap pea salad was really surprising and delicious. The snap peas are shredded thinly, somewhat resembling a seaweed salad. We loved it. The warm dates are a favorite and my dining companions order them every time they go. The ditalini pasta is as cute as it is delicious. Desserts are also adorable and very good. The chocolate mousse is thicker than I would prefer but the butterscotch pudding was perfect. We were also well taken care of by our server who I think is named Kevin. The hostess is also adorable and very sweet. Overall, I’ve been totally won over and I will be back several times for sure.

Wright & Co. is a very good restaurant. Not a great restaurant yet, though. Despite all of the hype, I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed by my experience there. All of the food tasted very good, but it just felt somewhat lacking in originality. Hipster avocado toast? Check. Dates with bacon? Check. Dessert in a mason jar? Check. It all tastes good, but on whole it just feels like food that I’ve seen before — perhaps not a vibe one should get from a restaurant that is trendy in every other way. That being said, Wright & Co. is worth going to at least once. The venue is beautiful, albeit a little hard to find if you’re not looking carefully, since it’s on the second floor of the building. I’m glad if anything that good casual dining is finally coming back to the Detroit area. No longer do you have to bunker down in a hotel or suit up at an expense-account-type restaurant for a good meal. Excluding drinks but including tax and tip, the meal should run about $ 30 a person, and everything is shared.

The only negative thing I have to say about Wright and Co is that we were told our table for 2 would be a 30 – 40 wait, so we went to Cornerstone Barrel House to grab a drink since it’s right next door. After taking the first couple sips of my drink, I get the text that our table is ready! Was more like 5 minutes, which is great but annoying because we had to chug the rest and head over. If you don’t show up within 5 minutes of your table being ready they give it away. Now that that’s out of the way, let the raving begin. Wright and Co serves small plates, so my spouse and I split 4 dishes: ditalini pasta, tuna tartare, pork tenderloin, and the charcuterie plate. The pasta was great and the huge chunks of roasted garlic mixed in were delicious. The tuna tartare was fresh, tasted great, and had a great mix of textures with the wontons. The charcuterie looked beautiful, but I wish that the cheeses were a little more stinky. And the pork tenderloin was the best thing we ate during our time in Detroit. So tender, such a great flavor profile with the goat cheese and apricots! Everyone should try this dish. After seeing what was at other people’s tables, I definitely want to go back and try the potato chips. Sounds lame, right? But looks so awesome. Had heaps of delicious looking toppings piled on.

One of my favorite places to go to in Detroit. I’ll start with the drinks. The bartenders are some of the best ever. Very knowledgeable and very good at what they do. If you want to try an «original» bourbon cocktail, order a ‘Skeleton Key’. The food. pork belly sliders are amazing the fresh potato chips are the perfect appetizer with drinks. I’m not a huge fan of dates, but I find myself craving the warm dates. I really recommend this place. The service is awesome and so is the food, drinks and atmosphere. Tip: when you walk in the building, the elevator is ‘touch screen’. After a couple drinks elsewhere, we found it funny and confusing on how to get to the 2nd level.

We went for their 1-year Anniversary party, and while it was a bit loud, we had a good time. I just love the ambiance of this place. I ordered a drink — something like a «King William III» or something. It was great! Like an adult version of Faygo orange pop. I also ordered the avocado crab toast which was seriously amazing. It was $ 14, but each of the 3 toasts had a considerable mound of crab on top, and I would most certainly order it again. Friends ordered the potato chips which were fatty deliciousness, and the chicken skewers were tasty too. Just be aware — this place is hard to find. It’s upstairs in the same building as John Varvatos. There is a door located at the back corner of the building with just their logo sign outside, and the elevator is a little intense. But don’t run away!
