Excellent service and awesome fresh and tasty sushi! Very friendly staff. They will make sushi rolls to your liking. I’m definitely coming back for more. Look for Leone. She is the best hostess!

I saw this restaurant in Groupon and gave it a try last Saturday. The décor was really impressive and food was tasty. I loved their sushi. It was fresh. But I ll never go there again. They treated us as if we there to eat for free. The waitress was really rude. I saw a special menu hand written on the board near entrance and asked the waitress if i can see the special menu, she said they don’t have the special menu. In fact she didn’t even care to go and see that menu. She was really rude and it seems like she saw us as a free loader and wanted to get rid of us as soon as possible and call it a day. After all the worst service, when the final bill came, she already added 18% service tax. This was not mentioned in the Groupon. It was like she knew that even if she served poorly, she would get 18% tip anyway. This made me think what the crap mentality is this. But at the end I did not say a word paid the bill and left with a pledge of never returning to that place ever again. Dear Unilocalers if you want to get insulted please visit this restaurant with Groupon, you won’t be disappointed.

A highly pretentious restaurant in Downtown Darien, that is grossly over-priced, and serves up mediocre, at best, food. It is not authentic Japanese food at all. At best, it is fair American Japanese fusion that simply does not impress, and they make you feel like they are doing you a favor to let you eat there. Please, leave Darien. You really aren’t needed here. Thank you!

If you’re craving sushi for lunch, this is the place to go. Is the sushi mind-blowing? No. But the presentation is nice and the lunch specials are more than fair. You won’t spend too much time waiting either!

I don’t know what anyone else is taking about but this place was by far one of the best sushi restaurants I have ever eaten in. The staff was extremely friendly. The deco was beautiful abut the sushi… OMG If you come here a must is the Toro! I have had Toro in NY, Ca, Fla in some of the hottest spots and this was by far the best! The yellowtail and Salmon were also great and the sashimi piece were extremely nice size wise. I will be back again!!!

My personal favorite sushi in the area. Delicious special rolls and nice atmosphere. Andrew was my waiter on my most recent trip and he was absolutely wonderful. Highly recommend!

The spicy tuna roll and california roll were quite good. So this must be their one and only forte. My problem was the $ 23 hibachi platter/dinner. It wasn’t worth $ 10 for a few pieces of tough steak, some really bland vegetables and average noodles. Unfotunately THAT was our main dish. We also had a below average chicken lettuce wrap and some other chicken appetizer that was equally inferior. Atmosphere is quite nice, service was oddly intense or absent. There are some serious fusion restaurants nearby(Tengda comes to mind) that do really interesting dishes consistently. This was seriously uninspired cooking.

I have always like this place for their fresh sushi… not their COCKROACHES. I will probably not order from them again after last nights’ experience. We order delivery and when our food arrived I bought the paper bags with into our kitchen and placed them on the counter top. I put my sushi bag on its side to pull out my food and a COCKROACH scampered out of the bag. DISGUSTING. When I called Matsuri they wanted me to drive my food and bug included at 9:50pm down to them after waiting an hour for our food. We threw out the food and made some pasta. Gross. JUSTUTTERLYGROSS. I’m still on the fence about reporting these guys to the health inspector.

For Maggie L, My party ate at Matsuri on 20 May between 5:30 and 8PM. My wife tells me that our waitress, tall and unsmiling, has waited on her before, and was no more friendly and helpful than she was on the 20th.

We got a Groupon. Food was good. Service was horrendous HORRIBLE. Pad Thai was ready about 30 minutes before the sushi. Asked waiter for water about 4 times and never got it. 0 stars for service. If I had 4 thumbs they would go down for service. Won’t be returning there again.

Matsuri is mediocre. I’ve eaten here quite a few times. I usually go for rolls only. I tend to do so when I realize that it’s a Japanese restaurant runs by Chinese(no offense to the Chinese). But based on my experiences, I just know that I won’t get a decent Japanese dish so I stick with rolls instead. On my previous visit, my friend ordered Chicken Terriyaki and it was just so bland, meat was over cooked, and rice quality just wasn’t as good as what you would get from an authentic Japanese restaurant. That’s when I told myself that I’m not going to bother ordering their ‘fusion’ food. If I want asian fusion food, I’d rather go to Kona Grill in Stamford. But if I feel like eating Chinese food, sure. I’d order an entrée or two. However, I never really got bad rolls here. I always order their signature rolls plus my usual; spider and shrimp tempura rolls. In fact, rolls here are better than Tengda in Stamford I must say… sushi rice isn’t as hard and things aren’t salty. I can’t comment on the quality of sushi or sashimi though because I never order those here. I do like the ambiance, but I would enjoy my dining experience much more if I don’t have to see 2 – 3 waitstaff standing around 2 steps away from our table and speaking Chinese while watching us eat. I consider that as an impolite manner. Service is what turned me off the most on my latest visit. The waiter was just very annoying. He just kept pacing back and forth, made me feel like we were being rushed. And the tone of his voice was just short as if he was annoyed by something. In turns, that made me annoyed too. If it wasn’t because my friends enjoy throwing their birthday dinners here, I would probably look for another sushi joint to go to.

I’ve commuted to NYC for a long time, and have always loved sushi… and there is no shortage of great sushi spots in the city. That’s why I love having Matsuri so close to home when I need my fix of raw fish. No question there are some good sushi spots from Greenwich up to Westport, but Matsuri keeps me coming back with a wide assortment of excellent, consistently fresh fish. I can’t comment on most of the cooked dishes since I stick to the uncooked fare, but the rest of the family have had good experiences; I’d call out the beef teriyaki as always being well-cooked(not well-done) and flavorful. The only«bad» experience I’ve ever had there was a couple of years ago — a sashimi dinner where the yellowtail was still partly frozen. They gave me another couple of pieces and we called it even. I’ve always had good service there — some reviewers have called it overly-attentive at times, but you’ll never have a problem putting in your order, getting another beer, or getting your check when you want it. All good in my book. Good ambiance throughout the restaurant. The bar is a hidden gem, btw, great place to have a drink waiting for people to arrive, or get together with friends and watch a game. It’s never crowded, 2 big TVs. The sushi chefs are Japanese, btw. And they know their fish.
