Probably my favorite«everyday» restaurant. I’ve been here close to 30 times. I don’t leave many reviews but this place deserves it! Whenever I go to another sushi place, it has to compete with tampopo. Even more expensive places don’t match up to the combination of quality and price. I normally get their salmon teriyaki bento box or the udon noodle special. Their eel roll is my favorite roll in Dallas. It is a relatively small place so it can get busy at times but the occasional wait is worth it. I just don’t understand how this place doesn’t have a higher rating. Wake up people! Then again I don’t mind, don’t spread the word, I’ll keep the place to myself.

Want sushi, but don’t want the fuss of sitting down to order? This is your place. This small mom and pop is order at the counter and is always offering daily and lunch specials. It is fairly cheap for sushi and the quality is better than I expected for the price. I normally go and get a sushi bowl that comes with about 8 slices of thin salmon sashimi and 2 tamago(sweet egg) over a bed of rice. I LOVETHIS. Salmon is my favorite fish and all that comes at about $ 12. The fish is fresh and there really isnt anything to complain about except for that the rice may have a bit too much vinegar for my taste. I have also ordered the two roll special which is very cheap and I recommend the eel roll. I believe is has fried eel tempura and avocado. The texture just melts in your mouth. I usually just order to go and it is very fast so I am in and out in about 5 – 10 minutes which is great for a busy schedule. This is not your top notch sushi(hence four stars) but definitely is a place to hit up when you need a quick sushi fix.

Tampopo is the closest thing to tasting like my Japanese grandma’s home cooked meals. It really doesn’t get any better than this. Cheap prices, great food, a greeting when you walk in the door, a thank you when you leave, legit sushi chefs, and the best part about it is, the cool jazzy beats they have playing in the background. I get to bob my head to the music while munchin on some gyoza. Then there’s the local newspapers along the sushi bar and a small tv in the corner to catch up on the latest news. Customer service exceeds my expectations every time. I am very thankful for this small relaxed café to be located in the busy city of Dallas. It is truly an underrated place that deserves so much more than 5 stars… Tampopo please don’t ever leave me!!!

Had to drop this guy to 3 stars for bad service, just a mess for takeout the last two times. This time, I called, they said 10 to 15 minutes, so I got there at 20 minutes. When I paid, it wasn’t ready yet, she had no idea how long and didn’t seem to care. I waited another 25 minutes(45 total) for a bento box, couple rolls and two salads. Also their soda fountain area is always a mess and missing one or more flavors with little ‘out of order’ papers taped over, just looks and feels sad. I think they forgot to start until I got there, so no benefit to calling ahead. I wouldn’t be so bothered but the last time was pretty much the same. Good food, but not good service.

I have been wanting to try Tampopo forever and I finally did… and I was disappointed. I wasn’t crazy about the«order at the counter» arrangement. I got the shrimp tempura udon special with a spicy tuna roll. The meal looked lovely, but roll was borderline warm, which was a big turnoff to me. The tempura came with two large shrimp, which were quite good and several tempura veg… including tempura sweet potato… which was odd. The noodles were great, but the broth, which should be the shining star in a soup, had a strange aftertaste. Overall, I just wasn’t impressed. The atmosphere, the food… neither made me glad I was there.

Don’t order food to go!!! You will got different content!!! I am so confused! Last time I ordered an Unagi eel bowl and I got pretty good fruit, sushi, shrimp, eel and rice. This time I ordered same thing for to go. I got nothing but a piece of eel! So angry when I got home and opened the box!!!

What a wonderful find for deliciously prepared Japanese food. My spicy salmon rolls and gyoza were perfect. My spouse had the seaweed salad and beef bowl and raved about the taste and quality. If you only dine at fancy expensive places, you should skip this place. Tampopo is simple, small, and reasonably priced. The lighting is peaceful and the music is low enough that you can enjoy your company. This was our first time and we will definitely be back.

This is a tiny shop that packs a tasty punch! Tampopo is a very cute Japanese café that serves up delicious foods with a decent price tag. When you enter their menu is on the wall, then after you’ve decided what you want, you order at the cash register and they’ll bring it out to you. The owner/chef Miyagi-san is from Okinawa and has been serving his delectable Japanese cusine at Tampopo for years. My go-to order is the grill mackerl bento box, which comes with grilled mackerl, fried tempura, 4 pieces of california roll, and a piece of fruit. You can tell that every part of the bento box has been made with care, from the perfectly grilled mackerl, to the lightly fried tempura. Their roll combo is also a good deal, 2 rolls for only $ 8, I get the shrimp tempura roll and fried eel roll. Sushi B is also a really good bang for you buck if you like nigiri and sushi. Udon is also tasty, it has a plesant tangy kick to it… pretty much anything you get here will be good. Tip: They do put a slab of wasabi on their nigiris under the fish, so if you don’t like wasabi make sure to ask them to leave it out.

Tampopo Japanese Café is a great casual café, pretty authentic to what you would encounter in Japan. The sushi is affordable(2 rolls for 7.95 or 6.95 special folks), and the hot food is simple, yet filling. I immediately got the classic Japanese café vibe when I entered; casual, lots of small tables with a simple menu. We got the curry katsu, the two roll combo with shrimp and eel tempura, and the chirashi bowl. The curry was pretty good with a somewhat large portion of katsu. My only complaint was that we’re was only one scoop of rice. While that may be enough, given the amount of curry lining the bottom of the katsu, I’d have liked to have more to soak it up and enjoy. The tempura rolls we got were simple and clean tasting. Nothing fancy, but definitely pretty good. The chirashi bowl came with a bunch different of raw fish over rice. Having eaten very fresh fish at different sushi places, we weren’t too impressed. That being said, it was only $ 11 and it was pretty good for the price. The quality was by no means bad, but not the best. The best part: our meal was only $ 30 total. Overall, this place makes for a nice relaxed meal. It could use slightly lower prices or a little more quantity for a solid 5/5, but right now they’re definitely doing it right for an easy 4 stars. Don’t expect the best sushi of your life, but at the price they are a good buy. I’d recommend giving them a try on a nice quiet evening, enjoy some cheap sushi and Japanese food, and talk the night away.

If I were to sum up Tampopo in a few words and/or phrases, I’d say that it’s cozy, barely hole in the wall, and gives you a whole lot of bang for your buck. Donning a colorful green sign, this place is hard to miss and it’s right next to a H&R Block on Greenville. For a small establishment that isn’t all jazzed up with dim lighting and community seating, you’d think that the fish here would be mediocre. Their sashimi, nigiri and rolls are actually pretty good. I love the chirashi bowl here — the cuts of fish aren’t as thick as I would like but for around $ 10 I won’t complain. Their daily specials can get pretty intense. I’ve seen their roll daily specials where you’d given miso soup, a hearty house salad, and a roll and I’ve also seen their udon specials which are HUGE and is noodles on noodles… Noodles everywhere! Tampopo is the place you go for Japanese comfort food. You won’t be able to get all the comfort food options you’ve seen in mangas or animes(yes I’m talking about you, otakus) but you’ll get to choose from a pretty big list of noodles, sushi, and even croquettes So go on and get your potato on.

Decent for the prices. It’s just average place for a limited menu. It’s pretty decent but be warned– u get what u pay for. No frills… Maybe even to the point where it’s too basic. Like the udon comes with some tempura and green onions. The California rolls is only crab meat and avocado. No cucumber.

Ugh. I can’t believe I used that many exclamation points, I’m judging my past self. I am here again though. I got the shrimp udon with a spicy salmon roll. The shrimp came on the side along with other tempura battered treats like zucchini, crab stick, and sweet potato. For $ 9.50, this is what you call a steal. The broth was nice and light, which is great because I’m about to sit in a four Becker course. The salmon is not bad, not horrible. The service is friendly and fast so come all. Wishing I had two stomachs right now to eat more :(

Excellent, reasonably priced sushi. Got the California roll and Shrimp Tempura roll for less than $ 10. They were both great for the price. I tried some of my friend’s udon noodle soup and that was also delicious. The food came out in a timely manner, the place was clean, and the overall ambience was cute. This is an order-at-the-register type of place so it’s quite casual. If you’re looking for some cheap sushi, this is the place to go.

To go order was ready in minutes. Service was ok. Price point is a value. Salmon sashimi bowl and sushi b combo(about $ 22 for both) were okay too. Salmon won hands down on flavor, over all the other nigiri(but then again it is by far my favorite). Considering the price point, fan. Give it a whirl.

I love Tampopo for good sushi(and a wide range of other Japanese food), priced reasonably, right in my zip code. I got the news from my doc that I am a borderline diabetic, so now I exclusively order the sashimi plate here, medically suitable and delicious food! I am starting a new job in Carrollton that puts me about a mile away from Tokyo One, so I’ll have a nice sashimi fix at work and home soon, sweetness :)

Everyone needs to try the Tonkatsu Bento Box! Tampopo is my go-to restaurant when I am in the mood for something quick, delicious, and affordable. The bento boxes are a great value and leave you feeling so full and satisfied. The tonkatsu is perfectly fried. Crispy on the outside, but tender on the inside. Everything else in the bento is amazing too(tempura, salad, california rolls, rice, and orange slices). You truly get a taste of everything! I’ll admit that I was hesitant to try this place at first, after driving past it multiple times; but now I find myself going back there every week! The food and prices are unbeatable compared to other Japanese restaurants in Dallas.
