The soft drink cups have the traditional«Hi, My name is:» invitation written on them. I was tempted to fill it in as «A JOKE!» and upload that picture with my review. But I decided against it. To put it shortly, this place was a serious disappointment. I’m staying in town on business, in from Los Angeles. The irony is in LA as of the last month or so they have been running radio ads for Dickey’s but not once in my near 30 years as a resident have I ever heard of one outside of the radio time, let alone see one. So here I am in Dallas, and there’s a Dickey’s right next to my hotel. Being the obedient consumer that I am, I remembered the radio ad and stopped in for dinner. I ordered the 2 meat plate and wow, what a failure. I ordered ribs and pulled pork with mac and cheese and bbq beans. Pulled pork: Not bad, the better of the two protein options. Unnecessarily over salted and not trimmed well, but good deep smoke flavor. The pitfall being the poor serving size. One tiny tongs pinch worth, probably the solid mass of ½ metric cup. A 5 year old child’s handful, etc. Ribs: Again, solid smoke flavor, but nowhere near tender. Tips still on(more of a preference thing). And only 2! TWO ribs. There are 16 in a rack, so 1⁄8th rack is an acceptable serving size here. Mac and cheese: Awful. Just awful. Makes Kraft look like something 5 star from Maestro’s. It might have been frozen velveeta because it tasted nothing like cheese and more like some sort of artificial oil/butter hybrid. Soggy noodles too. YUM. Beans: Probably the least disappointing thing on my plate. Good flavor, well seasoned, only drawback being they were swimming in liquid. Even in the paltry serving cup it was probably 60⁄40 water to beans. So if you haven’t detected the theme here it is portion size. Maybe 3oz of pork… MAYBE, 2 ribs(lol 2) and ¼ cup of watered down soggy sides. I am not a giant man hippo that expects a buffet everywhere I go. But at almost $ 16 for my meal I expected more than what would pass for a kids meal most places. Isn’t everything supposed to be bigger here? There are a few chains in Southern California that smash on what is being served at Dickey’s. Famous Dave’s, Lucille’s BBQ and even a few indipendent places too. BT’s BBQ in Huntington Beach rings a bell. In summary: Below average food and insulting portions when put against the price.

i was in-town for business recently, and came here for dinner. i ordered The 3 Meat Plate with sliced(moist) brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. sides were mac-n-cheese and fried onion tanglers. the moist brisket was juicy deliciousness; every bite was pure heaven. the pulled pork was pure tender smokey goodness. the ribs were equally wonderful. as i’ve said in previous bbq reviews, i’m all about the sauce. their original sauce, and their spicy sauce are definitely in my top 5. the buttered roll was fresh and delightful, the mac-n-cheese was delish, and the fried onion tanglers were lightly battered strings of heaven. this is about the 5th time i’ve eaten at Dickys(all in diferent locations), and they never fail to disappoint. whenever i’m in dallas, Dickey’s is my GO-TO place…
