Tried Odom’s for the first time today, I normally only crave my dads BBQ but since my partner and I are new to Dallas we have been experimenting with different places. I was exceptionally excited to try this establishment when I found out it was black owned I just knew the food would be good! We ordered ribs, links, chopped beef sandwich, and potato salad. The ribs and the chopped beef sandwich were amazing!!! So tender and perfect amount of sauce. I was highly disappointed in the potato salad it was bland in my opinion and the links were just ok, I wouldn’t order them again. The staff was friendly and when we got out food they gave us a whole loaf of Mrs. Bairds bread! Which was extremely random and I found it hilarious all in all I would definitely eat at Odom’s again just next time stay away from the P. S. and links

Update: Odom’s BBQ makes great BBQ but I ordered the baked potato dish that had all of the toppings including meat for around $ 12.00 and this dish wasn’t good. It was runny. It was as if I was eating soup. It’s too much. The flavors didn’t mesh together. The potato was lost. It also had sour cream and butter but I could not see it under the huge helping of meat. It was also very liquidy and I didn’t like it. It’s a lot however. Three to four people can eat off this dish alone. It’s huge. But the flavor… meh. it wasn’t there.

Obviously I’m not the only person who believe that odoms have the worst service ever! Never mind what the food is like, these people act like we should be honored to be allowed to step in this dump. The young brother with the beard has the worst attitude. No one greets you or even say can I help you. He just looks at you with a pen in his hand. How can any business that so rude stay in business? I guess when your business is in the ghetto, you should expect gutter behavior. No food is that good that customers deserve to be treated like our business means nothing. I for one will not be spending my money in this gutter again. I would advise anyone who cares about customer service not to spend your money here.

The food is good, but the service is awful! Especially the young brother with the goatee. He has an attitude is extremely rude. On my last visit not one word was spoken. Didn’t even ask me what I wanted. Just stood there waiting for me to order then handed me my ticket. I could tell that he knew his regular customers. But when my number was called. Again he just stood there. Not remembering I haven’t paid, he shoves my order to me and I start to walk off. Then he finally speaks. Sir is the only word he spoke. Then he shoves a notice that read something about no cell phone usage or some nonsense. Even though I was on my phone waiting for my order. Either way, I don’t care how good you think your food is, or who he thinks he is your stank attitude don’t need to come with my order of ribs! And I could care less who you’re related to. I’d rather find another black owned barbeque place than deal with you stank ass attitude. Acting like you’re doing me a favor by taking my order. Your food is never going to be good enough to have a side of your stank ass attitude. If this is how you think a family owned business is run, then you need to take a class In customer service for youngsters with stank attitudes.

I’m always on the hunt for a real old school BBQ place and Odoms does qualify as such. It’s in the hood and I would probably never go here after dark. The friend I was with had already schooled me on the place. 1. Order at the red sign 2. Don’t be on your cell phone when ordering. 3. You have questions ask them when placing your order. 4. Wait for your number to be called, don’t ask is your food ready. 5. Line up in the order called 6. Don’t expect any type of customer service. If you can adhere to all of these rules then you can go to Odoms. The ribs were meaty and tender. These are regular spareribs so they would be huge except they cut them in half. I got the rib sandwich which is a good deal. If you get the sandwich be prepared to now be able to eat the bread unless you ask for the ribs to be dry, they aren’t going to ask you if you want them dry. I find this to be the norm for a lot of old school BBQ places, everything is covered in sauce. The sauce was flavorful but I just prefer my sauce on the side. I would definitely come back again, after all I wasn’t expecting much for service. The ribs were good not the best but worth having again.

Better than average! This was my first time to Odom’s and my first legitimate Texas BBQ exploration. I don’t live here and was visiting during a business trip. I decided to check it out after doing research online and reading Gavin Cleaver’s article: The employee behind the counter took my order and helped me get a 3 meat sample plate with 2 sides I think that they only offer 2 sides… beans and potato salad. The beans were a little greasy in taste, but we’re cooked perfectly. The ‘tater salad was fine, but it was creamier than I prefer(not a lot of tater chunks). Their sauce is very good… a good balance of acidic to sweet. The to go box was lined with aluminum foil, which is necessary to keep the meat swimming in a pints worth of sauce. The brisket is insanely tender with a great smoke ring and was cut thin enough to skip the use of a knife, but thick enough to get two pieces per mouthful. The 4 pork spare ribs were fantastic. The sausage links had a good smoke and spice flavor, with a snap on the skin. The décor was equal to a run down dive bar with stained ceiling tiles. 3.5 stars because it’s better than average.

I drove from a location by the airport to Odom’s for lunch. I asked a person behind the counter for the correct line to stand in for service. He replied«I don’t know». He said you assume I work here. I ask why was he handling food, if the didn’t work there. He replied«the utensils were handling the food». He was very rude and I was a little thrown by his attitude. A lady was standing behind him. I asked her why was he fixing a plate, if he doesn’t work there. She replied«HEISTHEOWNER». I said WOW! I am only one customer, but they will never see me in there again. If the owner treat customers rudely, what does he expect from his employees. Their communication skills with one another is horrible. The lady could not communicate to the cashier what I ordered. THEYALLNEEDCUSTOMERSKILLS, INCLUDINGTHEOWNER. They have made their last dollar off of me.

Understand this: I grew up in West Dallas; I actually worked down the street from it at KFC for over 2 years when I was in high school. With that being said, the place is what it is. You’re going to experience less than eager/pleasant employees. They are going to move slower than the molasses that is sitting on Grandma’s table. They’re going to look at you like you are uneducated or bothering them for coming into their place to spend your money on their food. The BBQ itself is good. It’s not great, it’s not excellent; it’s just good. Good enough to stop here instead of driving further to find better. The potato with beef, chopped beef sandwich, and rib sandwich are fan favorites. I’m even partial to the smoked turkeys that they do for Thanksgiving, but that’s about it. Nothing really spectacular about this place, but it is there if you actually want some BBQ. Not a fan of the sauce as it is a bit too watery and bitter for my taste.

I grew up down the street from Odom’s, before it was called that Hardemans and ive always loved their food and the family. My personal favorite is the chopped beef sandwhich, there’s something about the way the meat is cooked and smothered in that awesome sauce that makes it mouth watering. They also have amazing links and ribs! Go here! Best barbeque in Texas!!!

Well the food is ok. I’m a sweet BBQ person myself. I wasn’t able to chose sides just beans and potato salad. I hate mayo so I got double beans and they were more ranch than baked. Plus the sign said no guns and shirt required for service. Yeah not returning.

Literally stumbled across this restaurant late night this weekend and I tried the ribs and the sliced beef. The only thing I would say is that the sauce was supper runny and watered down… and I am a sauce lover so please don’t go easy on the sauce! They didn’t have any sides really but I guess late night is a different menu during the day… but i see the pictures of different sides so maybe I need to go at a different time??? Idk but I know there a great soul food in Dallas but where!?!

I’m giving this a 5-star rating, not based on the food, but based on the service!!! Read on… My African-American co-worker & I love to check out BBQ spots for lunch. He grew up in the hood back when this place went by a different name. He forewarned me that this place was located in a shady area of town but that the ribs were good. Most of all, he told me not to take it personally if the people who work behind the counter treated me rudely or with indifference. He comes here quite a bit and said it comes with the territory and you just have to roll with it. So we roll up and have to park on the street — as their tiny parking lot was full.(Make sure to lock your doors and don’t leave any valuables in site). We walk in and the place is packed with people who live in the area. The younger guy was the only one working the counter and he was ringing up folks who were picking up their order. He calls out the order numbers and he’s very strict about telling people to line up in number order. This dude don’t play. Meanwhile, we waited a solid 10 minutes in a seperate line while the owner was tending to a back door delivery man delivering during their peak busy time(really?). When it was finally our turn to order, I asked for a chopped BBQ sandwich and the owner actually SMILED,(yes, I said smiled), at me when he asked if I wanted a small or large sandwich and then gave me an anology to put it in perspective. After hearing the stories from my co-worker buddy and reading all the bad reviews about service, I felt pretty daing special after that! I ordered the BBQ chopped beef sandwich and a side of potato salad. It was good and the potato salad tasted perfectly normal(not runny like another reviewer had posted). It took about 15 minutes for our food to be ready and the place had cleared out by that time but they still had a steady stream of customers. As we were leaving, the young dude actually said, «Appreciate it, sir» and«Appreciate it, ma’am» while he was taking orders at the counter. That’s when I realized he was talking to US! My co-worker couldn’t believe it! That’s all he talked about the whole way back to the office and about how they don’t give him the time of day when he goes in there by himself! Ha! I guess they can be friendly to customers when they want to be and for that, I’m giving them 5 stars! Rock on, Odom’s!

Been going to this place for the last 20+ years. Place is small and if you aren’t familiar with the area you may find it sketchy. But hey where did you think you’re dining in Highland Park?! No it’s West Dallas… I find it good food in the hood. Big servings! Be sure to note if you get sauce on the meal your going to need to expect it super saucy! Sauce is good with a little spice. Ribs are fantastic as well as the loaded potato and potato salad. George was super helpful behind the counter. Overall good neighborhood bbq, just wish prices were a bit cheaper that’s why only four star.

Some time ago, my sister and I were driving around looking to have some good BBQ, and we’d never been to Odom’s so we decided to stop here. Big disappointment. She got off first to scope out the place and she walked right out. When she got back to the car she said the people behind the counter were very rude. As we drove away, she told me she was looking at the menu, and the lady serving said«What do you want» in a very mean tone. Even though we didn’t even get to order or taste the food, I give them one star because nobody wants to go to a place that treats you that way.

Wanted to experience some good ol’ Texas style ribs late night. They serve decent food for a hole in the wall place on the sketchier side of town. but staff was rude on the phone and while dining was asked to wrap it up before they«closed in 5min».20min before the displayed closing time of 10pm. Overall poor demeanor of cashier and shady loitering allowed inside and out of establishment made for a ruined and annoyed experience. Note to self: Best BBQ spots in downtown Dallas area all close around 3−4pm.

I got the chopped beef sandwich on my last visit and found it to be just okay. Odom’s has been very Hit or Miss for me lately. I think the Duncanville location is slightly better. I really like their sausage links and sauce but the brisket hasn’t been very consistent which disappoints me. I feel like the quality of Odom’s has suffered in recent years and they haven’t remained competitive among the competition which has become fierce.

Hands down this is the best barbecue that I’ve ever tasted!!! The short end ribs were falling off the bone tender… and very seasoned and meaty. The links were to die for! The East Texas links were like none I’ve ever had before… they were meaty and good and greasy as expected!!! The absolute best!!! :-) The beans and potato salad was pretty good… I tried the chopped beef sandwich it was ok… I like the chopped beef from the Duncanville location better… And lastly… the sweet potato pie was delicious… a bit too sweet but I couldn’t stop eating it!!! If you want some real Texas barbecue this is your place!!! OMGGODTHEREWAS A PARTYGOINGONINMYMOUTHTONIGHT!!! Aaaaye!!!
