It is really 4.5 stars. Décor reminds me of a scene from the movie, Godfather. Servers were very polite and attentive. Food is very good. There is no specific flaws that made me knock half a star from d’Carlo. I was just not blown away as I was by other 5 star places. We had chicken and diablo pasta. Wooooooo… Diablo sauce was so good and I had to use the last piece of bread to clean out the plate. Noodles were cooked perfectly they felt so good in my mouth. It is on a little pricy side. But the food was good enough to deserve the price tag.

This place should be called dGusting! I paid $ 20 for the worst fettuccine like crap I have ever tasted … either the sauce or the noodles were very old … I was disgusted and told the server so … she did nothing and then called the manager over and he did nothing … I told them to keep an throw away the left overs … they didn’t even try and make it better … I would not spend a dime there and would not go back even if they offered me a free meal.

Went to check this place out for a special occasion. From the outside, it was a little difficult to find, but not overly so and walking downstairs was a little bit like an adventure. Nice. The patio was very sexy as was the inside, full of lights, and candles, I thought that we had definitely stumbled upon something special to spend our evening. The server wanted to sit two of us at this huge table. We opted for a close proximity two person table. More Sexiness. The table itself had 4 glasses on it, two huge wine glasses and two small wine glasses. The server asked if we wanted anything to drink and, after glancing at the wine menu with their house wine being a whopping $ 9, we declined. So he brought over some lukewarm tap water and filled our tiny wine glasses. A left the huge ones sitting between us, obscuring our view of each other and taking up valuable real estate on our small table. He then brought over two pieces of brochette, which were actually rather tasty, and being that it was the first thing that we’d tried here, we got excited. Well, that was the end of the good. The server asked if we wanted an app, and after declining he brought over the hardest bread I’ve ever had in my life. So hard that it clinked when set against the bread plate. It went untouched. We looked around and noticed that everyone elses bread was also untouched. On the top of the app menu they give you a choice to buy fresh bread for $ 5. What b.s. We ordered the Gnocchi Gorgonzola and added Italian sausage, and another dish with chicken whose name escapes me. We noticed that most of the pasta options didn’t include any sort of meat, which narrowed down our menu choices. At $ 14 and up for pasta. they should include a protein. Anyway, the food came out, and the Gnocchi smelled delicious, the extra we payed for sausage made the dish, it would have been pretty tasteless without it. My food, was just OK. The sauce was thin and the chicken was dry and obviously precooked and reheated. About five minutes into the meal, the server came to drop off a side of Parmesan cheese in a bowl, so we could add it ourselves. Talk about lovely service. During the meal, we just kept wishing we had some bread to go with it. Ive never been to an Italian restaurant where they did not provide quality bread to accompany the meal. To make matters worse, the server never came back over, so we didn’t even have to option of being extorted for our $ 5 to get some bread. When all of our food was done we naturally asked for the check. This was when the server decided to inform us all the restaurants all day happy hour that included half off wines, and $ 3 wells. Too little too late, adiós. We were furious. Im giving this place 3 stars because it has potential. The space is very sexy, and any date that included a trip here would theoretically be a hit. But the prices are just too much for what you actually get, terrible service, and extortionist practices. I wanted very badly to love it, but we left full, and unsatisfied.

Ok so we(my wife and I) are long time users but this is our first time posting. As far as Italian goes, this was very good. We love Mi Piaci and Zeppole(in the Gaylord in Grapevine) so that is what we are comparing this too. First of all, this place is where Daniele Osteria used to be and very difficult to find. You must park in the underground parking. However, it is well worth making the trip. Right now their website is offering a deal where you get any salad, any pasta, any entrée(minus 2) and a glass of wine for $ 35. A very good deal considering the entrée I got was $ 28 alone. Their ambiance was very relaxed and intimate. Overall, it was relatively small but decorated nicely. The service was great but as it was Monday it was pretty slow. I accidentally ordered a different salad which was replaced immediately. BZ: I had the d’Carlo salad(I’m not attempting to retain the italian names) which was fresh and delightful. The four cheese ravioli with the pistachio cream sauce was amazing and the veal scallopini with artichoke hearts was very well done. The food overall was fabulous and the wine list was authentic. My dad had the mahi mahi with the linguine and clams and my mom had the sea scallops. JZ:I was a little skeptical at the beginning because when we walked in at 7, there was only one other table sat. However, this place greatly exceeded my expectations! I had the house salad, the four cheese ravioli and seafood«stew». We shared two desserts between the four of us, the mango mousse cake and the Italian cream cake. My favorite was the mango, but the consensus was mixed because both were so delicious! I would very much recommend this place. It would be very easy to overlook because of the location but it is seriously worth the exploration. Very homey and comfortable and the food is absolutely yummy. Another appealing factor is that they make approximately 90% of their menu is made from scratch including their rosemary bread they serve to the table. Overall a big thumbs up from both of us and our parents(and my mother in law is extremely picky and difficult to please when it comes to Italian fare!). Overall, this place is great. Zeppole is number 1. And it’s hard to compare with Mi Piaci but this place does. Make the trip. You won’t be disappointed.

I had dinner here on a Saturday. The restaurant was at about 40% capacity, which I thought was unusual for a Saturday evening. Although probably recommended, I don’t think reservations here are necessary. Overall, the restaurant is somewhat hidden, so it appears word of mouth and marketing is what gets people in the door. Inside, the restaurant was appropriately decorated and the staff attentive to our table. As far as the meal went, we had appetizers, entrée’s and a bottle of wine, all appropriately priced for an Italian restaurant of this caliber. For someone who rarely treats himself to fine dining, I thought the food was excellent, well portioned and presented well. I highly recommend D’Carlo and would definitely eat here again.

They recently changed their name to d’Carlo, but everything else remained the same — comfortable, cozy atmosphere, good service and great food!

We have been here several times and it is a comfortable restaurant. The staff is attentive to our needs. Our group started off with the Fried Calamari and it did not seems as well prepared as other nights. The caprese salad should not have been on the menu– the tomatoes were tasteless but the mozzarella was fine. My Osso-bucco was perfect and it came with risotto. This dish was not reflected on the menu. My hubbie had Gnocchi Gorgonzola which is a favorite of many. I am not a fan of blue veined cheese but this dish is creamy and very enjoyable.

After hearing nothing but wonderful things about this restaurant, I am sorely disappointed. I brought my husband here this evening for his birthday. We arrived at 6:15 which allowed us an hour an a half before an event we needed to attend. Not only were we ignored for the first 10 minutes we were there, but the service during the entire meal was terrible. After my initial glass of wine and my husband’s badly mixed rum and Coke, we were never offered another drink. Food was pretty good, but then we spent 20 minutes trying to flag our waiter down so we could order dessert, and by the time he finally got to us we were nearly late for our 8pm event. We asked for the check and — you guessed it — that took another 20 minutes. I’m trying to figure out what I just threw away $ 85 on. We will not be going back!

I wish wish wish so dearly I could give this spot another star… but alas, i just can’t. about 3 years ago, I took my, then boyfriend and his family there to meet my family for the first time after our college graduation. It is SUCH a cozy little romantic spot. Sincerely, it’s quite lovely inside. The PERFECT place to cozy up to someone. Their portions were INCREDIBLY tiny. And this is coming from someone who things that portion sizes these days are grotesque. The owners were really friendly and didn’t mind one bit that I brought in a vegan cake for dessert. Personally…I LOVELOVELOVE how hard this place is to find! Completely! Bc it makes it one of those«only real dallas locals know about it,» places. But for the lack of vegetarian/vegan options… for the MUCHTOO pricy prices for tiny portion sizes… they only get this rating. =(Which makes me really sad! ps: I’ve been back since 3 yrs ago!

What a hidden gem! True Italian food is hard to find in Dallas but this place delivers. The ravioli was spot on and the portions aren’t too big so you won’t leave feeling like you just gorged. Service is also amazing! Definitely a must for any Italian food lover in Dallas.

I think this place is just pretentious and overpriced. I don’t even know why they want to be so pretentious on such a little crap hole. The tables were wobbly and the décor looked like they bought it at Burlington coat factory, it was not even a nice looking place. First, it was very hard to find, there was a sign that was on Oak Lawn with an arrow that points you downstairs, so we wend down the stairs and tried to open the door and it was looked. I saw a few employees right by the door and they just decided to ignore us while we stood there, after we were about to leave they chase us down and say: «Oh you need to use the other entrance, I guess we can let you«. THENWHYWOULDYOUHAVE A SIGNWITHANARROWPOINTINGTOTHATDOOR? Anyway, they only thing we could eat there was pasta and even most of the pasta had meat, so we ordered Gnocchi Gorgonzola and Linguini Vingole. Neither of the choices was good, they both lacked flavor, both pastas were kind of blah. Our waitress was very sweet, she was very friendly and she kept coming to check on us but the experience overall was just not a good one. If you want a bowl of generic pasta buy one at the frozen section of your nearest grocery store and save yourself $ 17.

I ordered the gnocchi and of all the gnocchi I have tried in my life it ranked a 3 out of 10. The texture was OK but it was flavorless. I like to taste the potato in the gnocchi. The portions were tiny. And the prices were not. I was still hungry after the $ 15 plate. The person I went with really liked his fettuccine but he was also dissatisfied with the size of his entrée. The service was mediocre. Even though the restaurant did not have many diners, they took forever to get our order. Once the order was in, I have to give them credit for bringing the food out quickly. However, the waiter did not even offer cheese for the pasta and he did not come around to check on us so I actually had to stand up and get a cheese bowl that was left at another table. So no… We would have been better off anywhere else. PS. If you are using a coupon, be careful. It is only good for entrees(and there’s only 4 options on the menu). The pasta and pizza do not count. So, you will pay full price on your bill. It happened to us and some diners that were paying at the same time we were.

I might be biased because I am actually Italian but this«osteria» is a pretentious, cold environment lacking the rustic one would expect from homey Italian cuisine. Our waiter tried to oversell us the whole time, first by bringing out schiacciata instead of bread(at 5 $ at basket, our party of 6 got 3 baskets). After my husband ordered his ravioli he asked«which salad would you like to start with?» sounding like it was included in the price, but we didn’t fall in the trap. When we asked the waiter for a wine suggestion he picked the most expensive of the 4 without giving a description but just saying«I think this is the best»…yeah for your tip! I got it anyway because I wanted it, but he just showed me lack of wine training. He messed up the order of gnocchi pesto bringing out the gnocchi gorgonzola, he fixed his mistake by bringing out the right gnocchi in 1 minute… but now they were half the portion(he probably took another’s person gnocchi and split it). To my vegetarian friend who order the risotto without clams and shrimp there was no difference in charge, and 24 $ for a pesto risotto is way to steep. We had to get a table at 6.45 because there was no other opening the whole night, but when we got there there were only 2 other tables, being served(on a Saturday night) and it pretty much stayed that way until 9.30 when we left. Food was tasty, I had an antipasto of clams and mussels, my friends had meh meatsauce spaghetti, tasty cheese ravioli, and you really can’t go wrong with gnocchi and pesto. Dessert: crème brûlée was actually a panna cotta brulee. tiramisu was really bland(try Avanti for a really good one), chocolate cake was moist and not too sugary and went well with the rasperry gelato. Pros: mussels and ravioli, live music Cons: overpriced, old crowd, small portions, and tricky staff. Overall: I don’t think I want to give Daniele another chance, he didn’t manage to surprise any of us, apart form the bill at the end!

This place is AWESOME! I was in town visiting for business and craving Italian – we stopped by 3 other Italian restaurants – all of which, did not smell like delicious food(major«No no» in my book)! So when we finally stumbled upon Daniele’s we were super excited… the interior is super quaint with a rustic feel… the live music was fabulous… the food was amazing, I had the pistachio cream sauce pasta that completely rocked my world! I would definitely suggest checking this place out if your in the mood for some delicious authentic Italian!

Nice, unexepected find in Oak Lawn. From someone who grew up in NYC, it feels like a real, authentic Italian restaurant. Good selection of wines and the four cheese ravioli special was very good. While I would agree with the description that it’s not exactly a kids place, they do have a reasonable selection of personal pizzas that work for kids. My main complaint is that it was very hot in the restaurant!!! Of course, it was almost 100 degrees outside.

this place is right on the Oak Lawn strip but not very easy to find. It is across the street from the AT&T store but not at street level. You have to walk down into a graden area to get to it. We went on a Monday night and they had a great special. Either ½ pasta or ½ bottled wine. I had the gnocci with cheese sauce. It was perfect. I normally can’t finish my plate but I just couldn’t help myself. Every bite was just a good. It was a melt in your mouth gnocci. I can’t wait to go back.

The décor and vibe is very rustic Italian. So is the menu; simple dishes, with fresh ingredients, small portions, and large prices. For Example, we had a pineapple flambé, that was just a cup of fresh pineapples in honey and flambed, for $ 10. It was fresh but overpriced. Daniele is handsome and charming. Wine list. I’d say bottle of wine and apps are a no brainer. Location is as kooky as Italian bureacracy, as it’s below the Chase bank building, at basement level. The patio is below the street, bad view, but sort of Florence meets Logan’s Run.

It was OK… not as good as I had hoped, but OK. Pros — nice atmosphere, conducive to conversation, decent service, great salad dressing on their mixed greens, very good coffee Cons — had the scallops and mushroom risotto(one of the evening’s specials) and was very underwhelmed — the scallops were a little over-cooked and the risotto was just OK and the two flavors really did not complement each other. Had a bite of a friend’s lamb shank which was decent but truly not of the quality I would expect for the price… this place is on the higher price side, though not unreasonable if the meal had been better. I would go back if friends are going, definitely didn’t hate it, but just wasn’t a «I must come back soon!» type of experience. Next time I will stick to pasta… from the reviews it sounds like that is the way to go.

I loved this place other than the garage entry, which was okay because of the valet, once we got through the curtain and into the restaurant. The food was great and I saw friends I hadn’t seen in ages. The bar was a welcoming spot. I wanted to sit and relax for a minute, but we were seated upon arrival. Think I will come back for a glass on wine out front now that the weather is warming up. That is really the best way for a guy to bring his date in, I think. It looked like a nice entry. The parking is a little arcane in the garage. I thought the food was fairly authentic for Dallas, I loved the insalata di spinacini, and the pan seared rack of lamb, costolette d’agnello. I didn’t do a secondi myself, figuring the primi and an entrée were enough if wanted to go with desert. So I just shared a bite of Mr. Handsome’s gnocchi, which along with the sauce was wonderful. The wines were a nice surprise, authentic wine list with reasonable prices. I felt for a while like I was back in a little Sicilian family spot, but the service was too good for that. We are spoiled here in America that way! Of course, have coffee and tiramisu and then relax with a Limoncello before hitting the road.

I was torn between 3 and 4 stars, but since I don’t see myself racing back here right away I’m going to stick with a-ok rather than I’m a fan, but didn’t mind my meal either. We came here for my husband’s company holiday dinner. The invite said it was going to start at 7 and I hate being late so we were there at 6:50. The parking situation is confusing — they have parking in the garage, but it all appears to be reserved for other people in the building. We figured it didn’t matter since it wasn’t business hours, but still I hate confusion. We were on a lower level of the garage and tried to take the elevator up to the street level and its apparently off during the night so we headed to the stairs… SCARIESTSTAIRSEVER. It was perfect for a haunted house or a scary movie. It was dark and dirty — and had the biggest cobwebs I’ve ever seen and leaves were all over — including in the hanging cobwebs that were everywhere. Traumatized. We made it up stairs after my traumatization and entered through the back door of the restaurant and easily located the bar area. We ended up mingling here for an hour! I was starving by the time we sat down. Dinner started with bruschetta for everyone and it was delicious! Very nice flavor. We were ordering off a limited party menu with 2 choices for each course from that point on. First course was house salad or calamari and I got the house salad. It was yummy! Fresh greens and a nice probably made in house dressing. it had feta and olives on it — I would have liked a little something more — maybe pine nuts? But overall it was a good salad. Pasta course — gnocchi with Gorgonzola sauce or spaghetti with meat sauce. I wanted the gnocchi, but I thought the Gorgonzola sauce would either be awesome or horrible and I was hungry so I opted for the spaghetti, but my husband took the risk and got gnocchi. Mine was good, but his was better. We switched half way through so I could eat his delicious gnocchi :) I loved the sauce — it was very rich and flavorful, but didn’t linger like some cheesy sauce does. If I go back — THIS is what I will order. 3rd course was roasted chicken or veal. I don’t eat veal so that made my decision pretty easy. The chicken was… chicken. It didn’t wow me at all, but it was alright. I didn’t try the veal so I can’t comment on that. Dessert was a lemon tort or chocolate cake. I totally went for the chocolate and it looked DELISH when they set it in front of me, but it quickly let me down. It wasn’t nearly as good as it looked and the lemon tort was disappointing as well. I’ll give the kitchen credit — this was a part of 30 and it’s a small place but they got the food out pretty well for such a large party. Overall I’d go back, but only for gnocchi and I’m never taking that stairwell again EVER. Drop me off at the door please. thanks :)
