Nice efficient coffee shop in our fave bookstore offers a wide variety of delicious coffee drinks and desserts, as well as a breakfast and lunch menu. When we were there, a hardcore homeless guy walked through taking the empty soda cans — that’s a bit disconcerting.

Disappointing. Not enough vegetarian options. Too expensive for what you get. Also, not really a bastion of efficiency, be prepared to wait if you have just ONE person in line ahead of you, because they cannot multi-task. I have watched the sandwich girl WATCH my bread toast, rather than starting on the next sandwich. I’d rather go across the street to Starbucks or behind the building for Henk’s(don’t be fooled into thinking this is Henk’s…it is NOT Henk’s)

Good stuff! Black Forest Coffee is a quaint little coffee shop located inside of the Half Price Books on Northwest Highway. It is not a major operation, but they certainly have enough things that you do not have to leave the store to get a good cup of coffee, a tasty salad or sandwich, or other light snack while you browse and shop the store. On my visit the service was friendly and helpful. They did seem to be short staffed for the number of people coming through, but they kept their wits about them and handled everything pretty efficiently. They had a nice selection of coffees to choose from and the cup I got(just plain) was fresh and really good, and not near the cost of a Starbucks. For the smoothie lover, they got you covered as well, with a complete menu board needed to display their selection! I had a turkey and cheese sandwich and it was good. They have a good variety of specialty sandwiches to choose from and one day when I am feeling a bit more adventurous I will come back and dry one of them. Today though, I was just in the mood for something more standard! After my sandwich I indulged in a dessert. Though the cookies were rather tempting, I chose a slice of apple strudel and was certainly not disappointed. While I am not sure that I would make this a destination spot for lunch, it is a great convenience to have this in the store for while shoppers are enjoying the books!

Great place to get your study on. There’s a great selection of pastries to choose from and decent pricing. There was traffic on the road so i stayed for about 30 minutes. The pricing is definitely below Starbucks. It can be a bit distracting with the people walking by. It isn’t a big coffee shop but i guess coffee shops aren’t meant to be big. The seating isn’t the most comforting; basic. And of course there is wifi. The major plus is that it’s connected to one of the largest half price books in Dallas. I’ll definitely be back.

We stopped by here to pick up some pastries for a client meeting, and were definitely disappointed by the selection and availability. We were able to get just enough for the meeting, but it cleared them out, so it was a good thing we came in early.

This place is located inside the Half Price Books. It offers different types of pastries, and sandwiches along with a decent coffee. Every time I bring my kids to buy books, we spend at least an hour enjoying our coffee, and cookies as we read our newly purchased books. Ain’t that cool?! :) Come here if you’re ever around the neighborhood to read a book, and enjoy a good coffee.

While not the most convenient location unless you’re already inside Half Price, I really do like this place. The fiancé is OBSESSED with their blended almond mocha and I’ve caught him comparing it to other places and wishing it was as good as the one at Black Forest. While I’m not completely in love head over heels with this place, it really is a good place to get a warm cup of coffee and go find a book somewhere else.

Black Forest has solidified itself as one of my favorite coffee shops in Dallas. I can’t say this isn’t bias, since it’s connected to the HBP Flagship, making it a sanctuary already. The espresso drinks and baked goods are always on point(an Americano + Florentine is my typical order) while the sandwiches are more of the«I’ve been studying for 3 hours and I’m starving» variety. I haven’t had a salad, but they’re named after writers(Huxley, Hunter S.) which I find pretty darn charming. While one may think the baristas to be your typical hipsters, I like ‘em. They have such unique personalities. In contrast to the Starbucks across the street, which offers more of a get-your-shit-n-go atmosphere, Black Forest is unexpectedly having an eye-opening conversation with a friend type of place.

Best coffee-and-friends environment in Dallas. Best bookstore in America. A big, open reading room where you can browse through your collected stack or talk with others about theirs. Great employees who are helpful and interesting, each with their own passion and pursuit.

I came here with the boyfriend to do some studying. It was our first time here but we had already been to the Black Forrest Bakery, behind the Half Priced Books which the café is connected to. The apple strudel is one of the best I’ve ever had! I also tried their iced coffee with amaretto and chocolate… it was uh-mazinggg. Although the food and beverage was good, the café was a little too small to get your study on without being distracted by people trying to get by. They do have tables outside to sit at on a nice day. I guess you could always walk into Half Priced Books and find a cozy spot to do some reading!

This is a small coffee shop connected to a half price book store located in a strip mall right off the main road. It’s very easy to miss as it is not well marked. They had multiple tables so it is a great place to study, although it was pretty busy. It is nice that it is connected to the book store though. I got an Americano which was good. That is my coffee drink of choice so I’ve had quite a few in my day and this one was par. Nothing special but not bad either. My girlfriend got a drink that is equivalent to a Starbucks frapp except she got almond milk in it. It was great! It was very rich in flavor but didn’t leave you with a heavy feeling. Quite tasty and addicting. The staff were nice and honest. They accidentally overcharged a drink and came back to us with the difference. It was only 70 cents but the honesty was priceless. I was disappointed with the selection of pastries. They get them from the Black Forest café which has great and delicious pastries but there was practically nothing here. I will still give 4 stars though and attribute it to it being Sunday afternoon as to why they were out of pastries.

This is a good place to get work done(considering it’s also attached to HPB). They have one of the better iced coffees I’ve had. The chocolate coffee is good too(hot cocoa + coffee). Sandwiches are meh, but it’s also pretty cheap so no complaints there!

Conveniently located within Half Price Books and they make an incredible cherry Italian soda. I had willpower that day and managed to leave before cleaning out the dessert case… boy, did they look amazing!

Parking is usually ok because it is inside Half Price Books and the parking lot is usually never completely full. This is a tiny no-frills coffee shop inside of Half-Price Books with very few chairs and some outdoor seating. This is a satellite location of the larger bakery behind Half-Price Books. Small number of food items and coffee, but tasty. Price is moderate. Customer service nothing special.

What I enjoyed the most about Black Forest Coffee was the convenience. It connected directly onto Half Price Books, and is the perfect to read a book and drink a cup of coffee. Disclaimer: Buy the book before you go in there to read because that would be consider stealing from Half Price Books. Love the iced coffees, and the prices are decent. I have seen some pretty interesting Hipsters here, so if you are a people watcher this is a fun place to explore. Small coffee shop, but it does the trick.

I meet at this Black Forest Coffee every other week for my LCSW supervision. There’s usually a spot to sit here, but sometimes it is an issue to find seating. There is also outside seating available, which is nice on pretty days! The coffee is sub-par, and the éclair I ordered was pretty seriously stale. I did get a toasted everything bagel with cream cheese, and that was solid. The servers are usually pretty friendly but are certainly in no rush to get things out to you. Overall, we will continue to meet there because it’s a good location, but the food and beverage are not in any way the reason we selected the location.

The personnel who work during the week days are downright rude. Nary a smile and when I asked if they could turn the music down just a tad, they said no. Oh please — just a little goes a long way. Bad experience and now I won’t be back. Guess they don’t care and it shows. Coffee and food aren’t that great either…

Smack dab on the corner of NW Highway and Central 75, Black Forrest Coffee serves as a convenient grab-and-go and a quaint sit-down, if a small joint is desired at which to get work done. That being said, the coffee and the atmosphere are not the best. Specifically, the service ranks sub-par. Yes, nothing more is required of an establishment with the word«coffee» in the title, and certainly not if it offers itself up as an extension to a large Half Price Books warehouse, but I would still like some«hello» and«thank you» with my cup of joe. The coffee offers caffeine, and by that I mean, it boasts nothing more than the flavor and psychological effects. To this effect, you serve yourself out of those pumping devices, so evidence exists that the batch coffee does not need much care or tending to. BFC serves well for those who need to sit down, crank out some emails – with slightly spotty wi-fi, or maybe meet with a friend. Or maybe an individual who just needs to begin reading the enormous stack of cheap books purchased prior. All this being said, BFC offers a low-key, casual spot at which to sip on a hot cup of black.
