I don’t make it back to the home town very often, but when I do I have to stop in for the best sandwiches ever. The tomato salad is a must-have on any sandwich. New location is great too: now they’re in downtown Clayton, inside Cup O’ Jo coffee shop(across from Skippolini’s Pizza). 6054 Main Street. Hours are M-F 10:30−8 pm and Sundays 11 – 4 pm.

Although there is a sign inside that says open from Monday — Friday, Canesa’s was open on Sunday for some delicious picnic sandwiches for a trip into the City. We came here yesterday based on the reviews my boyfriend found. I have to say they have some of the best Italian sandwiches ever! I would love to come here again to try out their nogastic New York drinks and other sodas I am familiar with. As well as other delicious sandwiches I saw on the menu. Plus with the friendly staff, I can see why the ratings were so high.

There’s no other sandwich place in the area that rivals Canesa’s as far as big manly sandwiches go. Plus the owners are really nice.

I was turned on to this place the other day, I can only say that I wish I had been told about it long ago! I tried the stromboli, the true measurement of anything east coast itallian. Peppers and cheese were melted together perfectly and all the different meats on it(Salami, ham, sausage and tomato salad on it) were just out of site man. My daughter is 8 and we split the sandwich. We will be bringing mom there in a couple days it is that good. If you are one to put ketchup on your hot dog, or avacado and sprouts with your sausage, well, you should go to counseling but additionally this would not be your type of place to eat as well. Subway /Quiznos aint got $hit on this place.

Love Love Love this deli. Please, if you order a sandwich at Canesa’s, step out of the«California» mindset, and try one of their specials. The best part of this deli is that you can experience flavor combinations that are NOT available in most places here. Try the Vinnie’s Stromboli! Go for the Cool Hand Luke! You will come back for more.

Hands-down, the BESTNEWYORK-STLYEDELIWESTOFTHEMISSISSIPPI!!! This deli isn’t for any of you namby-pamby California types who have to have sourdough bread, avocado and sprouts, because you won’t find any of that here! True New Yorkers and New Jerseyans will realize that they have found the holy grail of fast food when they try this place. This certainly explains why the place always has customers, despite being almost impossible to find! What you will find here is Boars Head brand meats(the absolute best) and Italian bread that is EXACTLY what I remember from the East Coast. Here, you can get a real Jewish Knish, some excellent Italian Ices and you can even get your Yoo-Hoo on. The stromboli sub is the best, slightly hot with melted mozzarella and plenty of salami an other meats. If you are from NY or NJ, then you know what I am talking about!(If you need to ask what a stromboli is… your are probably a lost cause anyhow… so don’t worry about it) The italian sausage and peppers and meatball subs are really good… simple and homemade. By the way… the subs are gigantic… just like home… figure almost a half a baguette. The bottom line is… if you don’t take your sub with vinegar and oil, salt & pepper and pepperocini peppers, then this probably isn’t the place for you… which is fine for us Italians… more for us! By the way… I hear that John getting some taylor ham, for some authentic taylor ham-egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches… I can’t wait!

Tastes like a Safeway sandwich to me, only I had to spend $ 20 for the experience. The bf and I wanted to try out a new sandwich shop since Genova’s was getting a bit old, plus the drive was a little too far. Gotta conserve gas, you know? So, we stopped by this place based on the reviews on Unilocal. Oh Unilocal, you failed me this time. The sandwich was decent sized, so at least I didn’t feel too gypped for my monies. However, the bread was mediocre, and the meat didn’t taste like anything I couldn’t have bought at Safeway. Toppings consisted of that Subway-style shredded lettuce that was a little wilted, and a tasteless tomato. Only redeeming thing was the Italian ice, which was pretty good. I’ve never had one before, and must admit that I was expecting something else. However, for $ 3 a pop, I felt like I had to eat every last drop of that thing because it was so expensive. I kept thinking, «I could’ve got an entire cup of fro-yo WITH fruit and mochi for this price!» Anyway, we’ve just going to continue our search for a decent sandwich shop around here. Or just go back to Genova’s in the meantime. Oh, one last thing: They’re cash-only.

The bread makes the sandwich! Anything and everything they have on their menu is fantastic, you can never go wrong.

I really liked it a lot. I ordered the hot Pastrami with melted swiss, spicy mustard and peperoncini peppers on a French roll, fantastic! I didn’t know it existed until my neighbor told me about it. It’s tucked away facing Baily Road and they don’t advertise. The prices were more than fair at 7 bucks which now will cost you the same at a Subway(Bleh) or a McDonald’s. I will definitely go back.

John at Canesa’s Brooklyn Deli tells me that they’ve been open for about 8 months now. I’d been given a good review by several folks but only today did I have an opportunity to stop by. As the name says, they’re a Brooklyn-style deli. Not being from Brooklyn myself, I cannot attest to their authenticity, however I will say that the Vinny’s Stromboli sandwich I ordered was outstanding. FUGHEDDABOUDIT! Pepperoni, Genoa salami, ham, melted provolone topped with roasted peppers — madonne. While Canesa’s is right on Clayton Rd., a main Concord thoroughfare, their location makes them difficult to spot. The shop itself is also pretty small, with seating for maybe 10 people. Regardless, there were quite a few people there and what seemed to be quite a few regulars, all very enthusiastic about the food. The menu offers about 8 different sandwiches, as well as r breakfast, salads, sliced cold-cuts, «mom’s meatball parmigiana(Mon-Wed-Fri, only) and Sausage & Peppers on Saturday. Being a fan of the sausage & pepper, I’ll have to make a trip down one Saturday. Anyway, if you’re in the area and enjoy a good NY deli, check them out.
