Just went to the Kickstand Brewing Company for the second time in a week now. Great food and great atmosphere. Pizza is phenomenal. Not many places around anymore where you can sit down with some good friends and family and eat some pizza. Had their burger last week, which was also very good. Brought my cousin along for the second trip, as he loves to try new beers, and he loved the beer! I don’t drink, so unfortunately I can’t speak to the beer. Great to see a new business open up in Commerce Township. Loved the décor, as it was very rustic yet modern. Service was fantastic and expedited, despite a packed house both times. Open layout, so you won’t feel on top of any of the tables next to you. Definitely recommend and will be returning!

Gave it a try tonight for the first time. Limited menu. Pizzas looked undercooked. Chicken was«ok» and venison chili was meh. Small portions and overpriced.

So far, not too bad. Cole slaw is tasty and not runny or overly sweet. The pickle slice was a disappointment. Sorta limpy, not crisp/crunchy. Not a beer connoisseur, so others can comment on that. On a Tuesday night, not too loud. Will return.

KBC is a great time! I’ve always liked CJs, but I like KBC’d beer and atmosphere much better. They have a really creative, but still excellent menu highlighted by the loaded pork fries and lobster/shrimp fondue. I also like that you get your own personalized mug for the mug club!

Had a late dinner with wife about midnight on 1÷29÷16. Place about half full and we were seated right away. Appeared very large and loud. Little in the way of character unless empty warehouse is character. Wait staff was helpful and on top of orders. No liquor, just beer and wine so my wife was very disappointed as she is not a beer drinker and just had water. I had the milk stout and amber ale, both were ok, not something I would seek out though. They only offer their own brews which I understand but could be a miss if you don’t have the best to offer. My wife ordered the«3 cheese grilled cheese»(10 $) and I had the«Ruben»(13 $). Grilled cheese was burnt and my wife was too polite to return it but really enjoyed the chips. Ruben was ok, but had a large piece of grissle. Fries were the best part. Not sure how two sandwiches, two beers and 20% tip works out to nearly 50 $ but I will not return. Quite disappointed with Kickstand Brewing. Hope they improve before poor reputation ruins them.

looks like a great place. I will be tough for me, because I’m gluten Free. They had cider and wine that I could drink, but no Liquor. Also not much on the menu I could eat. I was with a few folks and they loved the beer. So if your a beer lover this will be the place for you, but if you have Celiac like me. Not so much. BTW they were packed and looking around everyone was really enjoying the place. Really with i could drink beer.

Went on a Saturday night and the place was packed. My wife and I were told the wait would be 1 ½ to 2 hours, but after about an hour we were seated. As others have said, the beer is good, but if KBC is hoping to stay in business selling beer alone the better rethink things. We were extremely disappointed that the lobster fondue was not available. I would say that menu choice was one of the main draws on the menu. We settled for the IPA cheese dip which was good and was presented uniquely with a mix of bread and chips. My wife said the Reuben was so-so. I ordered a burger at medium temp and it came out well done. All-in-all, KBC needs to expand and improve the menu if they really want to compete with CJ’s just down the street. The ambiance is LOUD. KBC is definitely not kid friendly and does not offer a kid’s menu. We found ourselves nearly shouting at each other across our table and it would be helpful to have some noise cancelling tiles installed. If you want to experience a loud brew pub then KBC is a good option. If you want a relaxing and local brew pub with a great menu then choose CJ’s. Hope KBC improves as they mature but for now I’ll keep spending my money at CJ’s.

Cool hipster craft brewery vibe for the Commerce area. Crazy busy, but that was expected with this being the Commerce hot spot. Food was great! Mahi mahi tacos were on point along with the pulled pork burger. As a craft beer fan this brewery currently falls short. The Nitro Milk Stout shines through and is fantastic however. Underwhelming IPA and Porter definitely need an update. If the beer selection is improved I’d say this is a five star place

Cool to see another new place in Commerce open up. Overall theme is basic rustic warehouse look clean and simple. Probably could have benefited to have a design team that knows restaurant design. Some booths would have been nice as the table layout is slightly disjointed. Not a fan of the plastic plates. Beer is very good tried a couple and the cider not bad. Cider could use little flavor balance between sweet and sour plus maybe add an interesting flavor element to differentiate. Food tried was good — now being a Chef that consults on menu design, recipes, flavor development and presentation for multiple restaurant companies they could use a little help and I am slightly more critical than most. Here’s what we ordered Broccoli and Smoked Gouda Beer Cheese soup. Flavor is ok expected to see some larger pieces of broccoli but was pretty much puréed into the soup. Thickness could be adjusted as was slightly too thick. Smoke flavor is lost. Drae’s Chicken Tenders look hand bread and taste very good. We were told BBQ sauce was house made but it tasted exactly like Sweet Baby Rays which is fine just don’t lie if it’s truly not house made. Scooters Reuben, right off the bat menu says pulled corn beef, but it’s sliced. I was hoping that they may actual be braising their brisket but it appears to be bought already done. This fine, again don’t say pulled then serve sliced. They say Gruyère cheese but looked like Swiss to me. Liked the Marbled Rye and slaw. Over all a decent sandwich just was hoping it was elevated. One big miss is the absence of a beer battered Fish and Chips entrée. Being a brewery this one item that could really be a signature for them. Will be back again to see how they progress and wish them loads of success.

Very happy to have a great brew pub in our area. Went there two days in a row. The flights of four beers(I believe 5 oz) are a great way to try their very enjoyable beers which were far better in quality than a couple other near-by brew pubs. Food was also decent; better than typical bar food. One thing kept me from rating five stars: The staff, while plentiful and very nice needs training on the beers and knowledge of the brewery itself. Also, I only was made aware of their mug club when I saw a flyer above the urinal, staff didn’t seem to have much info on this promotion. Hopefully the management will work this out, beer geeks like me love to chat about the details of a brewery with a knowledgable staff. Otherwise I’ll be back frequently!

Went there a few days after the opening. The place was crowded but we were able to be seated right away. My boyfriend and I both got beer flights and together sampled 6 of their beers — loved everyone of them, and I’m picky with craft beers. The pizza we had was delicious, hot when it came out and cooked perfectly. The waitstaff was extremely welcoming and helpful. We had a lot of questions about the beer choices and our waitress answered all of them. We loved the atmosphere. Décor is very cool and rustic — you won’t find that anywhere else in the area. The bar is very larger and has plenty of TVs to sit and enjoy a game. The rest of the seating is a variety between high tops, booths and dining area — all look like nice places to sit. Our first impression was great and we will definitely be back with more friends. I would definitely give this place a try, even if there is a wait(also I’m pretty sure having to wait to be seated means the place is good, so I’m not sure why that is ever a valid complaint.). I’m very excited to see where this place goes — so awesome to have a place like this in the Union Lake area!

So I was super excited to see this place open as we don’t have many options in terms of restaurants in the area — we have The Lakes, Matter of Taste and CJ’s…so seeing something new open is kind of a big deal. I went with my parents and sister on a Saturday late afternoon before the big dinner rush around 5pm figuring the place would be slammed later. We walked in and the place was busy but we looked around and there were tables empty. We were told it would be a 15 – 20 min wait. There were maybe 2 – 3 other groups arhead of us so we figured we’d wait. However as we counted the tables — we counted 15 empty tables. So we couldn’t figure why the wait? We went back up to ask and they said«the kitchen was backed up». Ok, so we thought they may be working through some glitches. We ended up waiting over 40 minutes and that’s with more tables opening up as we waited. We were ready to leave but at the same time we figured we were there lets at least try it. The food was pretty good — we loved the shrimp and lobster fondue. My mom and I ordered the lobster roll — there was more bread than there was filling and it was pretty dry and lacked flavor. My dad and sister loved their burgers though. We were all happy with the beer — our favs were the cider, Amber and blonde. I would have loved to give this place 5 stars but it just wasnt there yet. Hopefully with time they figure it out and it will be a 5 star brewery.

I’ve been to Kickstand a couple of times now and can’t say enough good things about the food and beer! The waitstaff are very attentive and know the menu inside and out(including the different hand crafted beers on tap) — which, for a new restaurant is awesome! The Milk Stout is worth the trip alone and I’m excited to join the mug club on my next visit. So happy they are in town!

Poor service and Understaffed. Waited 15 mins to be sited. Once sited, no one can to table for 20 mins. The gentleman working on floor looked like manager seemed unhappy. Nobody skilled or greeted us or other people coming in. It’s Saturday at 1, people are just grabbing beers or quick bite. No need to wait 30 mins for poor service specially, when you are expected to spend some $$ for mediocre food. My wife and I walked out and Went to CJ’s, shared the experience with excellent server and had few laughs. Not going there again because first impression it last impression.

I visited this week after trying the previous week and being told it was a three hour wait. The thing is, I looked around and there were available tables everywhere(I counted — 6 tables). So anyways, I went back and it was okay, nothing special, I’d say Rochester Mills lite. Food was average, beers were solid so I appreciated that. The atmosphere is kind of wonky, not exactly sure what the theme is supposed to be(wear houseish?). I do like the bar, a large circular design, and the lighting is neat. Maybe the crowds will die down after another month and the newness wears off, but cj’s is a much friendlier setup and far better food and beer.

Went out last night with my husband and a few friends. I’m not sure how helpful my review will be because I’m not a huge beer fan… I know, why am I even here? But even though I don’t know much about beer, I do know lots about EATING food! The menu is pretty standard bar food — a variety of apps, sandwiches, burgers, pizza etc. Everything sounded awesome and I was starving so the choice wasn’t easy. I ended up going with the Southwest Burger and fries. For the appetizer, our table split the beer cheese dip and the lobster/shrimp fondue. I personally preferred the fondue. Big chunks of lobster, really nice flavor. It’s super rich, but I couldn’t get enough! Despite the huge crowd, our meals came out quickly. My burger was juicy and fries were nice and crispy. I could barely finish half of it but that’s probably because I inhaled the fries and appetizers! Unfortunately, I didn’t have room for dessert so I can’t comment on that, but I know I’ll be back to leave that review in the future. Again I didn’t try any beers, but I did have their hard cider. I thought it had nice flavor and it didn’t give me a headache halfway through like most ciders tend to do. If you do decide to go, prepare yourself for a wait. We went in the evening and there was about a 2.5 hour wait for seating. It may not be that long every time, but just be sure to plan accordingly. I was very pleased with my meal and my experience at Kickstand and I look forward to my next visit soon!

Another new brewery you ask? Yes, this trend shows no signs of slowing down so let’s just embrace it. Kickstand happens to be conveniently close to my house, which is a big plus when you live in Commerce Township(not so many choices). I stopped in for lunch with some friends during opening week. They were pretty busy, but we were seated immediately. The brewery is huge, definitely one of the biggest start up breweries I’ve been to. They have a large U-shaped bar, and a good mix of high top tables, booths, and regular dining area seating. It is very open and airy, but doesn’t have much character. The brewing operation is on full display through large windows in the back of the restaurant. Service was prompt and friendly, although the kitchen was surprisingly slow considering they were nowhere near capacity. But I’ll cut them some slack because it was opening week after all, and when the food did arrive it was very good. We tried the hummus, pita & veggie platter and the loaded pork fries to start. The pork fries were great, loaded up with pulled pork, bacon, cheese and BBQ sauce. Precautionary Tums are recommended. The hummus platter was also fresh and flavorful. For my meal I had the house burger with chips and it was also good, but nothing to write home about. They have a nice menu with salads, burgers, pizza, sandwiches, etc. Some interesting choices include Mahi Mahi fish tacos, lobster roll, and the grilled cheese and bacon sandwich. Check out the menu I uploaded for more. I also uploaded the beer list. They have a nice selection, offering a Session IPA, Pale Ale, Porter, Milk Stout(available nitro), Blonde, Winter Warmer, Amber, and a Hard Cider. I tried the Porter and Amber, and both good. I’d pick the Porter again, it was rich and smooth. They have a mug club for $ 50 annual that includes free food and unlimited beer on your birthday(Happy Birthday to you!). You get a 20oz. mug for the pint price. I’ll definitely be back to sample some other beers and food. Hopefully the kitchen ramps up to operating speed. Welcome to the neighborhood Kickstand!

I visited during their«soft opening,» so with the expectation that there might be some kinks to work out. Surprisingly we were quoted as having a 30-minute wait when we arrived, so clearly I’m not the only one that had been hearing some buzz about this place. Happily our wait was less than 10 minutes. Service was very quick — so quick that I hadn’t even had a turn to glance at the beer menu(only one was given for the whole table) before the waitress arrived. All four of the beers I sampled in my flight(a porter, a stout, an amber, and a winter special) were good but not legendary. Their Roasted Garlic Beer Cheese Dip appetizer was very good, but the chips were stale, and it would have been nice if they’d brought a spoon with it since a group was sharing. I had their Grilled 3 Cheese and Bacon, which was okay. The goat cheese and gruyère gave it an unusual creamy texture. The fries were above average. At the end we were asked if we wanted dessert, but no menus were offered, so I’m not sure what that might have included(dessert wasn’t on the original menu). See what I mean about small kinks being needed to work out? Little things that will hopefully improve. I wish I had made more specific notes about that beers I had, but usually I just look at the menu to refresh my memory when I get home. But alas, this place doesn’t yet have a website or a beer menu online. Only a Facebook page. Still, the décor was pleasant, it was large with lots of seating, I have no complaints about the service, the menu is promising, and parking out front was readily available. Overall lots of potential here. I look forward to visiting again in a few months when the dust has settled!
