I typically do not write bad reviews on Unilocal,on account of the fact that I think very often people take a fluke bad experience and go on to write a review that it is unwarranted and unnecessarily damaging to a business. That said, I’m writing this for two reasons: number one, my experience over the last few months has been relatively consistent, and number two, my sentiments are echoed almost exactly by another reviewer, leading me to believe that the problems I have here are not isolated. When I first moved here from Seattle, I shopped around for a comic shop, and settled after a few weeks on escape velocity. It’s clean, reasonably well organized, with a decent selection of fairly-priced back issues. However, over time, issues kept not making their way into my file, and series that I added never once made it in. They were always«shorted by the supplier», an excuse I’ve never once heard at any other comic shop. Worse still, there would be times when a series I was«shorted» would be sitting on the rack. That happened today, in fact, and it’s not the first time. Lastly, I find it annoying that I have to remember a four digit number in order to get my weekly comics. I’ve shopped at far busier comic shops who not only don’t subject me to some numbering scheme, but actually remember my name, and have my comics out for me almost before I’m even through the door. It would be a good little comic shop if they would sort out their systematic pull list issues, but as it stands now, I’m unhappy with the way a large portion of my list is seemingly forgotten.

Mike is awesome! I would like to see an FAQ or a brochure or something explaining the process for setting up subscriptions and getting on the list for variant covers. They do have a great subscription program and so if you are a true collector there is no better in the Springs to set up a pull list with. You can do this at the store or on their website. The website is OK but I would like to see a better interface for browsing the previews lists. Midtown Comics in NYC definitely has the best website. Maybe you guys could take a page from their book? Overall Escape Velocity is one of(if not the) best comic book store in the Springs. I recommend the downtown location for back issue selection.

Well HELL yes! I’ve been coming here for years, every time I go through the springs, and they always stock the newest and coolest stuff. If you don’t know exactly what you want and are in the mood for $whatever just tell them and they’ll point you to some superb reading material. Love the products, service is great, staff are knowledgeable!

When I first moved to Colorado Springs this was the first comic book store I stopped at. I was impressed initially, it was clean, organized, had good stock, and the staff was polite. I started a pull folder here and went on my merry way. But then the problems started, on Wednesday I would arrive to get my folder to find issues missing that hadn’t been pulled. Not a big deal mistakes happen… But then it became about an every week occurrence. It got annoying fast. Secondly, though petty, folders are assigned by number. I’ve got enough numbers and passwords to remember I don’t need to add to that list, ever week I would forget my number and they would have to look it up. Another issue was parking downtown!!! If you were looking to find a spot even remotely close to the store on a week day… Or Friday… Or Saturday, you were lucky! Then after parking you have to pay the parking meter. I really found it annoying to pay to park so I can support local Colorado Spring downtown business’s. Then there is the downtown tax on top of the already state tax!!! So after parking fee’s and the downtown tax you’ve added a few bucks to your comic bill! Another thing that disappointed me about Velocity is they never got variant covers and I always had to go hunting other stores to find the ones I wanted. Escape Velocity also had to much of a chainy feeling, both locations. After all that It was nothing but a hassle to shop here and left for greener pastures: Muse Comics! Plenty of FREE parking! No extra taxes!!! No numbers to remember, heck half time I don’t even have to say my name they see me walk in and get my comics out for me. They have never missed an issue on my pull list and they get tons of variant covers!

Great staff, really helpful. Prices for comics are reasonable. Prices for toys, shirts, etc are a bit high. But whatever, it’s local business, so suck it up Mary.

I love local business. And I especially love a comic book shop that has a great selection of not just comic books, but action figures, hoodies, novelties, mugs, and a lot of other great gift ideas. A couple other comic shops in the neighborhood are crazy about people picking up comic books, flipping through for a second and browsing but not here. I was looking for a specific comic book and action figure and the super friendly owner knew exactly where my books were and when my action figure would be available for sale. We had a great conversation about different toy makers, collectibles, and quality of novelty items in general. His knowledge really shined through as our conversation progressed and he seemed to really enjoy what he does for living. If I ran a comic book shop, I probably would too. I didn’t get the specific item I was looking for but got a couple of other things I didn’t even know existed which was even better. I can’t wait to come back in January to get more ideas and more comic books to help me sit through the annoying layovers to come.

Bargain Comics, or, Escape Velocity as they’re now known, is probably the best comic shop in the city! The atmosphere breathes fandom, and you can tell this place is a haven for comics nerds. The staff are very friendly and love to discuss comics with customers, and they’re very knowledgeable. Also, Escape Velocity has the best selection of comics that I’ve seen anywhere. They have tons of mainstream titles as well as a huge independent collection, so that you can find almost any great title from your favorite pull lists. Highly recommend this place for getting your comics fix!
