The pupusas are to die for. I recommend the calabaza with cheese. This is a hole– in– the-wall, so go in knowing what to expect and you’ll be rewarded with a huge variety of dishes cooked by a very deft hand. There’s usually only one woman cooking there, so patience is required. No liquor license when we went, sadly, since a beer would be a nice accompaniment to those tacos.

I purchased a gift certificate from in June 2011 for El Poblano. I ate there with my family in late July and met all the terms and conditions of the gift certificate. When it came time to pay the bill, I presented the certificate but was told by the waitress that the restaurant wouldn’t accept it. She told me they no longer participated in the program. I had no problem with that but I explained that I thought they should honor certificates that were already purchased. She insisted they would not accept the certificate. She proceeded to call the owner and put him on the phone with me. He told me the same thing she did. I told him I didn’t think it was fair to find out after I dined that the restaurant wouldn’t accept the certificate. He told me there was a sign on the window that stated the restaurant no longer accepted the certificates. I looked at the front of the store, did not see a sign and told him so. The waitress, who was listening to my conversation with him, then went to the kitchen and came back with a crumpled piece of paper that said the restaurant no longer accepted the certificates. What a complete lack of integrity. The owner continued to argue with me over the phone and threatened to call the police if I did not pay the bill in full. I paid the bill but will never go back to a business owned by a dishonest and disingenuous person such as this one.

I found it to be good and would go back. I ordered the Adobada pork sandwich… mighty good! This alone would bring me back for more. The place is small and quaint, but has an extensive menu, so I will have to try many times and taste more items. Soft drinks and various other sweet sodas abound. There are about 7 – 8 tables in the small place. The owners were very friendly. Service is usually at the counter, but sometimes they come out to the table.

This quaint, hole in the wall Mexican/Salvadorian restaurant mixes the authenticity of a taqueria in Mexico with the tastes of contemporary American cuisine. The menu is extensive for a restaurant of its size. Which in my opinion is a plus. El Poblano offers some items that aren’t usually found at most Mexican restaurants in Colorado Springs(such as sopes, chilaquiles etc.) One of the major detractors though is the speed of service and lack of some basic amenities(air conditioning). The woman who usually works in the kitchen is a lot more diligent in attending clients compared to the older gentleman who didn’t offer me or my good friend a menu or chips and salsa for the first 15 minutes that we were in the restaurant. Too bad… it could be such a better experience.

I saw the positive write-up in the Gazette on this place and decided to get a shot. A combo Mexican/El Salvadorian place the food here is better than some cheap eats Mexican its still lacks that something special. And i found the meat they use to be tough.
