Austin Bluffs Ace Hardware

We had new granite installed in a bathroom with undermount sinks, but the faucet cut-​outs were placed too close to the sinks for the hardware (round washers) to fit. After visiting Lowes and a plumbing store, nobody offered a solution. Luckily we found Justin @ Ace Hardware who filed off the side of the washers for a straight edge and then used the spinning brush (normally used for new keys) to smooth. If you’re looking for a true hardware store that helps and appreciates customers, I recommend the Austin Bluffs Ace Hardware. Thanks again, Justin!

We now have a lot of choices when it comes to home maintenance and improvement. What sets Ace apart from the others is that it’s a throw-​back in time. In a good way. The staff understands the concept of customer service. They are always friendly, knowledgeable and eager to help. The only reason for less than five stars is that the stores are a little smaller and don’t always have a selection of items.

Eh, its a fine store with a wide selection of the things you are looking for. I can only say that the customer service is not what I expected when I think of a classic hardware store. Usually the staff is über helpful, and maybe I’m not being fair since I didn’t ask for help. Man, this Unilocal thing is tough. There have been times I’ve asked for assistance and gotten great service. And other visits when I couldn’t find an employee… so I’ll be tough one them (and myself usually) and stick with two stars. But will continue to give them business.

Wow! I went for hardware but I found out they have quite a neat selection of different sodas: cheerwine, moxie, Dublin Dr. Pepper.

Way better than the other big box chains, this Ace Hardware is the perfect size with friendly, accessible employees who know what you’re looking for. The space is new-​ish, clean, and well-​lit, and nothing is out of reach or hidden in the abyss of some deep, dark aisle. Yesterday was maybe my 6^th visit since it first opened.
Unfortunately, I’m not very handy, so I hate how a trip to Lowes and Home Depot will usually turn into something very overwhelming and frustrating. Either I’m wandering up and down the wrong aisle or I can never find anyone to help me (they’re either already busy with customers or they’re just not around).
Ace always has what we needed, which admittedly were small items (screws, plumbing items, paint, weed killer, even crafts, etc). Yesterday afternoon, for example: we had to buy washers for the plastic pipes under the bathroom sinks. Easy to find with the help of a knowledgeable employee and 41 cents total. I’ve never bought tools from here, so I can’t speak to the robustness of that section. But they will refill your propane tank if you don’t want to exchange the whole thing. Parking isn’t much of a hassle, either.
This Ace reminds me of McGuckins in Boulder — THAT store is way cool with an employee posted any which way you turn, and the atmosphere is similar to Ace except that it’s much bigger but very unlike Lowes and HD. McGuckins is the 5-​star standard to me, so Ace gets a solid 4.

I love Ace Hardware. It’s my favorite place to go on weekends. This location is really nice and the building is new and very clean. Everybody here know what they’re talking about and they’re very helpful. With as small as they are, you’d think it would be hard for them to compete with Home Depot, but I prefer them to Home Depot because they have everything I need and none of the stuff I don’t (supplies for contractors and construction companies).
