That was pretty nasty. Everywhere else had a line, except Salt Lick. Since there wasn’t a line I thought it would be a quick way to get some food. After the first bit I knew I made a mistake. I forced myself through what tasted like Walmart Deli sides of beans, broccoli salad, and potato salad. Then I got to the sausage. Nasty… which is hard to explain since sausage is generally a safe go to meat. It tasted like leftovers from last Tuesday. The brisket was overcooked and probably aged three days as well. I didn’t even finish the meal. I do not recommend.

Great Brisket, BBQ Sauce, and Broccoli Slaw. Get the platter instead of the sandwich… the buns are terrible! The brisket was just as good as what I have had at the home restaurant outside of Austin TX, which is some of the best barbecue that you will find anywhere.

I got the brisket platter : Two out of the six pieces of brisket were very dry. Otherwise I thought it was delicious. Potato salad had a bit too much mayo and sugar for my taste, the beans were alright, I liked the broccoli slaw the best. Overall the plate was doused in a little too much sauce for my liking. I wish the person plating the food had asked me how I’d like it, I’d have asked for less. But I enjoyed it regardless. This location was not as terrible to me as to other reviewers, although I can see how you could get unlucky here depending on the time, like when the brisket has been sitting and drying in the heated compartment for hours and such. It’s not made fresh here, it’s just kept warm I suppose. Hit or miss!

Great Texas cue at Will Rogers International airport. I recommend the platter and insist on the brisket. The sausage is good and the sauce is pure heaven. I always grab a box of the sauces and dry rub for home.

So things seen to have improved since others visits. Service was fine. Food was good, brisket was moist. One complaint is that the plates themselves are to small. Portions are fine but you potato salad has to be dropped on top of your cole slaw. Invest in some bigger plates.

Not surprised to see poor reviews. The service is awful. Slow and lathargic. There is clearly no management engagement at this place.

I can’t believe this is Salt Lick BBQ. The brisket was dry. I mean bone dry. Covering it with sauce didn’t help. Very expensive for a piece of leather some sausage and 3 sides. Hopefully someone in the Texas office will read this and either fire the manager or management company or remove their name. This is a disgrace to good Texas BBQ.

Okay, so I know it is 10:37 am on a Sunday… to respond with a less than doldrum, «I don’t know» after the question of what time you’ll be open is really unappreciated and inexcusable.

I must have visited this location on the right day. I orded the brisket and sausage combo and wow it blew my mind. It was in the top 3 bbq i have ever had. I personally like a lot of smoke and it had it in every bite of the tender juicy brisket. Sauce was amazing. There is no bbq in California that comes near this place. I would rate the brisket higher than Franklins bbq in texas. And for the sausage we have lockford sausage which has been my number 1. This sausage blew it out of the water. I will be craving this place for years to come.

Well, I just made a poor choice. Definitely choose a different option. I ordered the brisket/sausage platter. The sausage was by far the best thing on the plate. The brisket was dry and overcooked, who actually hot holds brisket anyway? The sides were the worst part of the meal. Broccoli guck, bland beans, and runny potato salad. No thanks, glad I am heading back to Atlanta where I can get some real BBQ!

I expected the same courtesy and service I have always received from The Salt Lick, but I was sadly disappointed. With limited choices in the airport, I mistakenly thought this would be the best. Wrong. The blank unintelligent stares at the counter were comical. Both workers had a «yeah, whatever» attitude. I ordered the brisket and turkey platter, but the soupy mess i recieved was not worth $ 13.55, or the rude aditude of the employees. The only reason I gave this a 2 star instead of a 1 is because the meat and the sauce were good. All three sides(potato goup, brocoli goup, & burnt beans) were lacking in flavor and slopped together on the plate. Do yourself a favor and eat at Sonic. It’s cheaper and friendlier.

Dear Salt lick, Hailing from Austin I’ve had your treats many times. Both at your original location and in Round Rock. I’ve also eaten at the Austin airport location more times than I can count. It isn’t as good as your flagships, but serviceable given the other options. I was at least hoping to expect the same from your OKC location where I had the chance to dine today on my way home. For anyone reading this, do not judge the brand by this locale. Their home based restaurants are nearly flawless. This satellite does not accurately reflect the mothership. For some strange reason their sides are even different. Instead of the german potato salad and cole slaw which they are known for at home as they are both tasty but not heavy like the traditional sides, they served a very soupy mayonnaise and mustard based potato salad, heavy on the mayo and with under-cooked potatoes. It was inedible. Instead of slaw they served a broccoli salad also heavily laced with mayo and including raisins? WTF? It was like one of those mid-western dishes that the rest of the country finds at best confusing and at worst, disgusting. In this case it was both. Finally the BBQ. I had the turkey and brisket plate. One frequently hears how«you don’t go for the sides!» when it comes to bbq. That statement is ludicrous, but I digress. In this case the meat did not overcome and instead left much to be desired. The turkey had no smoke flavor at all and was doused in the sauce they included and«overly so» was my initial thought. The brisket was about like the guy we all know who made his first brisket and invited everyone over to eat. By that I mean it sucked. It had a smoke ring but again was eerily lacking smoke flavor, and it was tough and chewy. At this point I was glad for the voluminous sauce they included. A. Their sauce is delicious and B. It added the necessary boost required to eat the sub-par Q. when I was already starving… Like a great ranch with some soggy fries. Yeah, I know its an airport restaurant but so are Schlotzsky’s and Wendy’s. Both options, I would have selected over this place in hindsight. Again they get it right at home, but this seems entirely different than the original, barring their sauce.

I have been to the actual restaurant and WA happy to find a version in the airport. Do not judge the restaurant by this place. Sides are the best items. Slaw was flavorful, potato salad very mustard like, but the brisket was dry as a bone.

Bill K quotes, «…culinary wasteland of Oklahoma City’s airport…» So true. I wish we had more options here, but it’s a smallish airport with a small terminal. Beggars can’t be choosers I suppose. I ordered right before closing time so… You know. Can’t guarantee the best in freshness right? Well, the day that I tried Salt Lick(in hindsight) was probably not a good idea. I knew I had a very small window of time between my layover. Should I eat now or wait till I get to my destination(LAX)? I had a good 45 minutes to spare. F-it. I’m getting some grub Uck. Now thinking back about that day kind of makes me feel terrible inside. I’ll spare you embarrassing details. For close to $ 20(included a drink) I ordered: Turkey– Although it was really pretty dry, it was the best thing in my combo. Sad. True. Brisket– What a waste. It was tender, but lacked in flavor. I’m not a BBQ sauce type person so I had to dip and double dip. Slaw– too saucy for me. and Fries– freshly made, but they got soggy quick. I like crunchy fries so I was bummed. If the flavors are any indication of what I should expect from The Salt Lick, then I’m really disappointed.

My wife and I were expecting a feast on a bun when we ordered the 13 dollar brisket sandwich combo. To our dismay, we watched as the server plunked an even amount of fat and an even amount of brisket onto a scale, carefully analyzed it and took a piece of good meat out then plopped it on a bun. Portion was poor… quality was poor… service was poor. If you are the owner and you are reading this… they are ruining your restaurant’s good name at the airport location.

Not as good as the main restaurant in driftwood Texas. Though it is pretty good. The food quality was good and still tasty. The main problem I have here is the lack of selection for the prices. Wish they would have had some ribs or some burnt ends. This place is a decent impostor and will do if I need a Salt Lick fix and happen to be in the airport. I would go back but just to tied me over till the next time I am south of Austin.

My favorite OKC airport food option. I usually get the sliced brisket with a side of «mustard» sauce.

In the culinary wasteland of Oklahoma City’s airport, Salt Lick BBQ beckons as an oasis of potentially good food nestled between a Moe’s and a Schlotzky’s. By the standards of BBQ places, though, pretty expensive, and the meat spends so much time laying out under a hot lamp, no wonder it’s dry. The smoked turkey had very little smoke flavor, and if I closed my eyes I could easily believe I was eating a deflated football. Not horrible, so I give it two stars, but nothing to brag about either. Salt Lick could never survive outside the airport without upping its game substantially.

Easily the best place to eat in OKC airport. But it’s not cheap. For nearly $ 23, I had a pint of draft Dos Equis and a beef brisket plate. The plate included about 4 – 5 pieces of brisket, cole slaw, baked beans and fries. While the brisket doused in house BBQ sauce had great smoky flavor, I thought the brisket could be better if it were fork tender. The baked beans were really tasty with chunks of meat(pork?) in it. I think I may have even liked the beans just as much as the beef brisket. Then there was the cole slaw, which was runny, mushy and downright nasty, and some soggy fries. Meh. Overall, it was 3 stars only. I highly recommend eating here if you are hungry in the airport(it beats Sonic), but don’t expect much.

Ok for airport brisket for the airport its really a 4 star brisket for in general crowd where if you like brisket, this is not a destination… so while in OKC Will Rogers Airport, its clearly the best place to eat. For brisket in OKC in general… its a 3 out of 5 stars get extra sauce for sure tho
